I have a vzw Galaxy S4, rooted, & running OS4.22, on HyperDrive 10.2 rom & build MI1
Recently, for no reason I can figure, my most recent nand backups done in HashCode's SafeStrap & the specialized version of TWRP recovery geared towards SafeStrap & my phone have mysteriously gone missing & I can not create any more nand backups.
Oddly enough, I _can_ restore some older nand backups I saved on my desktop & copied to my ext SDHC 64Gb Sandisk card.
Backup does not work on either the Safe side or the Stock side, but on Safe side Restore does work - haven't tried to restore on the Stock side…
However, upon trying to back up, the script that runs the backup log says that partition info is being checked & the screen goes black & sometimes returns into the main SafeStrap screen.
There is a msg when I tap on the log button on the bottom middle & it shows something about a checking of the partition & the backup script starting & then a blank line & it says that the script ended.
It seems that it is an issue of the backup script becoming corrupted & I would love to be able to just run / install a patch or something rather than having to lose the extensive setup I have on the safe side… I have >300 apps & customized settings in Xposed & don't want to lose everything if I don't have to…
My apps & data are backed up by Titanium Backup; but the Samsung lockscreen configuration, along with Xposed configs & other stuff would be tedious & very time consuming to have to restore.
If anyone is wondering why I haven't upgraded to newer versions of the OS - it is for the same reasons I just mentioned- along w/the newer OS security that makes rooting & even more, custom roms & developement harder to use & the KitKat SD card / file system access upgrade(?) makes it unappealing; so any help would be most appreciated. TIA oldwolf
sasiskas 5.0.1 ROM for Galaxy S4 DUOS I9502
First of all, let me tell you the story and the philosophy behind this ROM.
The story: One month ago I bought an I9502 because it was the best dual sim phone for it's price. Unfortunately it is oriented for the Chinese market so it is full of Chinese customizations and apps. And since there are no International-oriented custom lollipop roms available, I decided to create one by my own.
The philosophy: The rom is based on my personal preferences, I just share it because why not! Since I am not a samsung software fan, I removed almost every samsung bloatware. And Obviously removed all the chinese crap and customized everything I could in order to make the rom more international.
The ROM is based on a the latest I9502ZNUJOC3 firmware. In order to save some time I found the official ROM Deodexed from romzj.com and customized it to my personal taste.
CUSTOMIZATIONS
Deodexed (by romzj)
Busyboxed (by romzj)
Rooted (by romzj)
Replaced Boot animation from China Unicom to Samsung
Removed almost all Samsung apps
Removed all Chinese apps
Added Google apps
Xposed
Camera shutter sound on/off
Added advanced power menu
3minitBattery
Network Stats On status bar (settings->connections->more networks->Network Traffic)
Removed Baidu location consent
Replaced location service from baidu to google
Removed SIM icon from status bar in order to save some space
Removed Sfinder and Quick connect from Pull down menu
In SMS app, replaced sharing location from mo.maps.com to google maps
Replaced Chinese keyboard with multilingual S6 Keyboard (all languages available)
Replaced file manager with S6 file manager
Added optical reader from S6
Added weather from S6
Added KidsMode from S6
Removed Chinese search engines from stock browser
Maybe something else that I don't remember
All languages are supported.
Modified SMS/MMS app, Replaced sharing location feature from chinese maps to google maps
Removed Airplane mode confirmation dialog
Added Application Permission option (app ops) in settings->more->security
KNOWN ISSUES
If you go to "settings->security->sim change alert" the settings app will crash. Generally some items in settings menu are not working because they are linked to Samsung Account, this happens because I removed Samsung Account, I left the settings there in case someone wants to reinstall Samsung Account.
After boot, Touchwiz might crash one time. I'm not sure what causes this issue, but I don't mind since I use Nova Launcher. If you want you can help me find the source of the problem. Fixed in version 1.1
Messaging app crashes Fixed in version 1.2
Contacts not recognized in messages or when receiving a call. Fix according to your country.
Generally the rom is VERY stable, and I have no issues so far.. (I use it since July 2015)

I'm not sure. I have heard of people using i9500 roms on i9502 devices, but never heard of someone using i9502 rom on a i9500 device.

You can't because you dont have enough free space.
You must flash stock ROM, then root, then remove as many Chinese and Samsung apps as possible, then install "Gapps 5.0.x PICO" .
Pico is the smallest version of Gapps ( including only basics google apps) , but it is ok, you can install any google app you like, later from google play store.

It is strange when i unpack your rom on my SD twrp is not seeing it as a backup.
I had to make a backup and then delete everyting from that folder then put your files inside and only then i can do a restore, but restore fails.
I will try once more. I follow your instructions to the letter but for some reason it is not working for me.

That happens because TWRP sees only the content of TWRP folder that is generated inside your SDcard. I should have mention that but I forgot.

Did you try the second method I described? it should work.
Sorry for the trouble but I don't have a second device to try it, and on my device it works fine.
Awaiting your feedback
Ok first because i didn't had lollipop flashed only bootloader and twrp after. When i tried to restore twrp didn't see your folder so i made a small backup first and i then deleted it and moved your files into that folder. Twrp then saw the files and it restored boot, preload but when it starts to restore system it has some strange progression, it starts from 0MB to 172836928327MB and it is always on 0% no matter how much MB it restores, it reaches around 1500MB then it reports Failure. I will try again and will post the log.
Also when it failed first time i have downloaded full rom from your post, i have updated the phone, it boots normally. Same china baidu crap all over it. I again flashed twrp and repeated the procedure.
Wipe data / cache. Wipe system and i try restore but it fail again.

I juts tried it and it works fine for me.
I'm uploading a new Version V1.1. You should better try the new version.
This time it is complete backup, not just system
It is not compressed, maybe the compression was causing problems
Fixed some bugs from previous version
And I'm also trying to find a way to make my ROM as a flashable zip, for easier installation, but I have no idea how to do it at the moment.
can you confirme that more locale is working??

TWRP METHOD ONLY
HOW TO TRANSFER ALL APP DATA + SETTINGS + ALL USER CONFIGURATION FROM PREVIOUS ANDROID OS TO NEW ANDROID CUSTOM ROM
Greetings, i have Great info for everyone for RESTORING User App + Data as it was before from TWRP. I used pixel experience 10 official rom for 2 days and after flashing it i restored my app data from titanium backup which after that took time to configure everything which is a bummer hectic to configure phone settings as per our likes and install & configure every app. Official Pixel 10 showed me little lags and slower performance compared to MIUI 11. Caution: TWRP DOES NOT BACKUP users Internal Storage data so make sure you backup your internal storage data like Photos, videos anything in internal flash storage backup somewhere else.
Now here's what i did, i rebooted to TWRP > Backup > Backed-up system image(incase anything goes wrong), boot and specially DATA (All user app + its data + settings stored in this). Make sure you backup data in external storage like memory card or OTG flash drive.
Then i installed EvolutionX Pixel 10 latest version released on 5th Dec after complete format, flashed DFE, Flashed Drunk Kernel, Flashed Magisk and wiped cache & dalvik cache. Then rebooted phone and configured the new os startup> rebooted to TWRP > Restore > selected only DATA and restored it > BOOTED SUCCESSFULLY WITH SAME APP DATA AND SETTINGS including same wallpaper and everything was same.
WARNING: After you boot your fresh backed up data & it asks for password after boot & gets stuck then reboot to TWRP and Install ResetScreenLock.zip (find it in XDA or CLICKHERE and boot successfully.
You can ONLY do this on SAME VERSION OF ANDROID OS. Like i had Pixel Experience 10 Official so it's data can only be transferred to any other Pixel Experience 10 custom Rom. I'm not sure about transferring Data from different versions of Android example android 9 Pie TO android 10 Q let me know if it's possible.
I didnt backup from titanium backup because usually restoring backup from titanium freezes & it cannot restore specific User App data to a new rom and it was a headache restoring apps manually after titanium backup didn't restore half of my apps & its data
You are welcome have blessed day. God Bless:laugh:
This is twrp 101. But mind that every problem and every force close you will encounter (and you most probably will) is going to be because of this.
Phone overheating, battery drain, apps crashing etc.
Developers suggest clean flashing for a reason, old ROM data interference with the new ones.
What you did is called dirty flashing and is the same as wiping system, davlik, cache and flashing ROM and gapps.
Your data backup is very useful when you want to try a new rom, clean flash it and then want to go back to your previous one.

Not a single problem till now, No phone heating, no abnormal battery drain, not a single app crashed. Phone is working perfectly smooth and not even a mili second lag. Basically Technically what actually i did is transfer my previous Pixel 10 data to New Pixel 10 data so there are no changes at all in Data.
You can test it if you follow my steps exactly you will successfully transfer Data to any New custom rom, i have tried. Just make sure the data you want to transfer is between same base roms like i transferred from Official Pixel 10 TO EvolutionX Pixel 10, similarly you can transfer to any Custom rom that is based on same base rom which you are using currently.
NOTE: Before you go & do TWRP backup, make sure you do complete system cleanup, app cleanup, corpse cleanup from SD Maid Pro and then do clean backup from TWRP
After you flash new custom rom make sure you boot it and go through its initial startup process then go back to TWRP and restore rom and flash ResetLockScreen.zip
Enjoy

I'm using custom ROMs since 2014, i have certainly enjoyed the issues i'm describing above.
Dirty flashing causes a lot of unwanted stuff.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

If you don't know what you are doing, you will face problem. This method works perfectly IF you are on Stock Rom and it is not bloated and you are transferring your data to custom rom who's made from the same base stock os. Example heavily bloated and transferring its settings to a different setting os is going to create instability its common sense. Backing up non bloated stock rom data to custom rom works
You saved my life... I tried a similiar method but it didn't work. But this... this saved my LIFE
