[6039y] Help needed for 6.0 upgrade - Rooted device - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I used this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/development/6039y-guide-repartitioning-internal-t3176061/post62270281#post62270281 to expand the internal storage of my 4.7 inch Idol 3, and now my phone is rooted.
As a result when I check for update I receive a message - It has been detected that your device has ROOT access - Upgrade is disabled.
In the Menu I have the option to choose System updates (Storage) but I need to have the ROM downloaded first.
If anyone could guide me through the upgrade process will be much appreciated.
Thanks

You have to do a complete unroot to receive updates.
I don't think the 4.7 idol 3 has received MM yet, correct me if im wrong.

4.7 did receive mm according to Alcatel, just unlocked version. I don't know what model number that is.

The 6039Y received the update as it's the US unlocked variant of the 4.7 model.

I got a 6039s as us model 4.7

Solution is simple. Use mobile q to downgrade back to 5.0 and you should receive ota to update to MM.

Hello.
Did you manage to upgrade to 6.0?
Cause I'm exactely in the same position: 6039Y, with 8+8 GB internal storage, rooted.
Thanks.

Please edit your title (you may have to go to advanced editing) to have [6039] at the beginning. This will ensure the folks trying to help know about your specific device as the methods for 6045 idol3's are totally different.

Not yet. I'm waiting for some guide to appear. If I manage to upgrade I'll post the steps here

You could use Mobile Upgrade Q to upgrade phone. It won't matter that you are rooted. But it will wipe everything. This may upgrade it to MM or may revert it to a clean version of 5.0.2
After that you may need to follow @petrov.0 's guide to restore fastboot commands and then you can follow his other guide to repartition again to 16GB internal.

Hello.
Can this be solved with the xposed modules that hide root? Like RootCloak, XPrivacy, ANRC or Suhide?
Thanks.

Why you not use TWRP for Upgrade to MM?
There are two versions from decker.su. Version one is a MM Backup to restore in TWRP (you dont lose fastboot) and Version two is a flashable zip(lose fastboot, but you can restore fastboot in same way as LP)

Couple of questions about Lollipop update

Hi guys,
so as you are receiving Android 5.0.2 I spoke with my carrier today to find you that they are still waiting for Sony to provide the test software. This means more waiting for me. I'm thinking of updating following this manual - http://techbeasts.com/2015/03/16/update-sony-xperia-z3-compact-d5803-official-android-502-lollipop-231a0690-firmware-how-to/
Before I do it I have a few questions:
1. When I update using this method am I going to lose all the apps and setting that I'm using now?
2. If I choose sets say the german version of 5.0.2, does this mean that in the future I will receive OTA updates alongside the phones running this version out of the box?
Thanks in advace.

I would just point out that that thread you linked to states that it is specifically for the Z3c. That is a different device to the Z3
However, you can just flash a FTF for the Z3 found in flashtool (Or the mega collection thread) using flashtool.
You will lose all data on your phone unless you choose to not wipe data.
You will receive updates as if you had the phone with the firmware you install on it.
But you can always flash the FTF for your carrier once it comes out
Greg
Thanks Greg.
So there is a way to avoid wiping the phone when updating with flashtool ?

Untick the box that says wipe data
If you get a load of FCs after the phone boots you will have to re-flash and then wipe data
I think I got it, but I would have to read a bit more before flashing.
Thanks again
Are there any disadvantages to flashing a different version of the firmware?
For example, I'm with Three, and although they now pride themselves on their phones being unlocked, they've still put their bloody splashscreen and other bits and pieces on the provided firmware on the phone! I'd rather have the generic UK version, but just making sure there'd be no issues with that.
None for me, My phone was with ROM for Mtel ( a Bulgarian carrier)that also claims the phone is unlocked. I flashed the central Europe ROM without any issues. Even kept all the files and apps from 4.4.4
Thanks for that, I'll have a look at some of the various firmwares available and make my choice!

[Q] How to fully unroot phone to receive OTA update

I rooted my G Flex 2 with the help of this forum but now I cant get new OTA update. I get a message on screen:
"This device is suspected in rooting. Software update is not available for rooted device."
I then tried entering Super Su and checked Full unroot option and restarted my phone several times but OTA is still not working and I get the same message.
What else do I need to do to get the new OTA?
Thank you!

you can choose between two ways.
1. (only, if an update is avaible)
-Download and install "LG PC Suite" for the Flex 2
-connect your phone
-click on update
-wait
-your phone is updated and unroot
2.
-Download your stock .kdz from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/development/kdz-lg-g-flex-2-stock-kdz-t3068441 (download your current firmware)
-use this guide to flash firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089 (i know it's for the G3, but it works. i tried)

If you have the Sprint version as far as i know, it doesn't yet work with lg suite. I have tried several times and can't get the connection prompt on the phone. Suite continues to say switch to "pc connections" in the connections options but it never shows and will not load on the sprint device.

Thanks for the answers. I will try the LG PC Suite first. I don't have the Sprint version, I live in Serbia thus I have the standard Europe H955 version of the phone.
Downloading LG PC suite now, and will post the results later.
EDIT:
The LG PC Suite did the update to a new version of the software without a problem.
Thank you very much.
I want to flash xposed module for a while now. Would this method also work for flashing the xposed module?

try it by your self and report. in the theory you need a flashing tool like Flash Gordon or something like that. that the only way because there are no custom recoverys for the Flex 2
the methods above won't work, you need an app to flash .zips
flash at your own risk

One thing i noted is that phone is much more snappy afterward. maybe it's because of the cache rebuild that every build do or maybe there is some secret ingredient added in this update.
Very surprised to see another update from AT&T for the G2. I wonder if there's any chance of seeing 5.1.1 or 6.0.

You can't update with root, at least I haven't been able to.
When updating it will just kick you back to the home screen with a message telling you, you're suspected of rooting and updates are not supported for rooted devices.
I also tried the method discribed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/general/links-manually-forcing-ota-20c-to-20u-t2828874 to force an update but I was unable to succeed
I'm waiting for dlpkgfile to update
How does one make this file root friendly? Wouldn't mind taking the time to do this.

i think thats the answer for no 5.1.1 i dont see why leave g2 at lollipop if its has bugs.. since they fix the stagefright on 5.1.1. so we need it 5.1.1 to get rid of this bug but aparently with this update theres no need to update to 5.1.1 but does this still have the memory leak bug?

The last command appears to force a package on the phone to start the update process without (or possibly after) a check for root, however when I run the command the nothing appears to happen making me think that the original Lollipop update(30f) either nerfed the command to prevent this kind of thing from happening, or they replaced the package with a new one for the 5.x iterations of Android. so it is a matter of waiting for people smarter than me to find out how to force the updates in the Lollipop update
TL;DR: yup I agree with you
Is there no way to unroot, install this update and then root again?

As far as I know you can't unroot a device. The way I'm doing it is reinstalling the original KK, then going trough the process of updating till the lastest update then rooting again.
I do hope someone could come up with way to install the latest update on rooted.
That did come to my mind but I felt it's just too much of a pain going that far back for a patch!

Tmobile pushed a 60mb update to my LG Stylo this morning? What to do?

Hello Folks
This morning I noticed, Tmobile pushed a 60mb update to my phone. I am rooted and unlocked but not on a custom rom.
Please advice what I need to do.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Is there any issuse with the update
I have not updated. As I mentioned I am rooted and unlocked. Not sure what to do hence posted my question in the forum.
I do not want to lock the bootloader. Just curious to see what others who might have got this update are doing about it.

1. You don't have to worry about lock bootloader
2. Which Software version are you running? v10e, v10i or v10j?
3. If you update there is a way to downgrade cuz we have previews KDZ's
I am running version 10i,
I am guessing tmobile wants to upgrade me to v10j. Is there a flash able version for 10j that I can use?
Thanks

dummy you can't update that way you must remove all traces of root which the app can't do use the KDZ
If you are rooted and it says system update DO NOT INSTALL IT... it will brick your phone

your link seems dead or not correct. - edit: link correct, was not working due to my vpn...
I assume he patched a G8+ boot.img with magisk manager.
boot image can be extracted from official Doha firmware found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/doha/official/
manual on how to do this can be found on official magisk manager website.
be aware that when unlocking bootloader your phone will reset to factory settings.
This is what I did. Yes..
Worked great for my G8+. I guess people should just check which stock ROM file they get from lolinet to make sure it's the right one. I say that because, in my case, lolinet list had two files for the Brazilian stock ROM. I went to Settings / About / Version number and downloaded the matching file. Don't know whether the other file would work the same or not. Just didn't want to risk having any issue since G8+ is somewhat new and there's not much info on solving root problems on the Internet.
Hi,
Couple of questions
Does the Bootloader have to be Unlocked to flash the modified Boot image?
Or can I use update option?
Are Motorola releasing unlock numbers for Bootloader now?
Thanks, Carl

Hello, Carl. I guess it's not possible unless there's a flaw in the security. There are some articles on the Internet about that. Google "is-there-a-way-to-root-an-android-phone-without-unlocking-the-bootloader". I can't post URLs yet.
As for Motorola devices, I was able to unlock the bootloader without problems on my G8+, last week. The only caveat, I'm my case, is that I had to wait some days for the unlock bootloader option be available under developer options. It was disabled by default in my G8+. And, yes, they're releasing bootloader unlocking codes.
THANKS!
Have anybody with a rooted device tried to get wide angle camera working in gcam ports?
Thanks.

magisk module debloater and also sdmaid helped with most of the bloatware, the only thing I could not remove was google files but I just deactivated it.
a really weird thing happened with the April 1st update, basically the update started automatically and it failed at 3/6 so I tought I should restart my phone and test it again, but it got stuck in bootloop and I had to reflash a rom with fastboot cmd.
I think that's because I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone, cause u lose the right for updates after you do that, but for some reason lenovo/moto update system goes automatically the next second u connect to the internet and fails halfway thru so u have a higher chance to ruin your phone or something, instead of denying the update from the start
so the solution I found was to try and delete "moto update service" app that I can't force stop or disable but I couldnt find it in system/app or system/priv-app, that's because the app name is "3c_ota", so deleting that with SD Maid app worked and the "update system" option in settings is reverted to a sort of default android one that lets you check manually.
Had a similiar issue. I soft bricked my phone (bootloop) and installed a stock rom from an unofficial source. The funny thing is, this version did make like 3 or 4 system upgrades to PPSI.29.65-51 without any issue. But the 1st April updated failed to install. I then flashed the official 1st april stock image with the moto rescue and smart assistant. After that, the official ROM tells me my phone is not allowed to do updates because the security of this phone is compromised and I should contact lenovo support
Those upates are kinda annoying if they don't work, I guess I'll just completey flash the phone every 6-12 months with the moto assistant.
yeah you should always have a backup rom that you can download with moto assistant or from lolinet g8 roms (https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/doha/official/)
I also got the same message saying that my phone is compromised ( unlocked bootloader + rooted) and it won't receive any further updates, but I just deleted the "3c_ota" app (the moto update service) which is bad cause if forces automatic updates the second u connect to internet.
I'm not going to touch any further updates or security patches until android 10, which I will attempt to flash via moto assistant
