I want to root but am lost as on how to do it?
Im on the newest firmware as of yesterday and i cant find a tread set for MM update root
also do you know if the root knox trip will stop the gear vr headset from functioning?
thank you

First, about root causing problems with vr...I don't have one to confirm if it will or not. I am pretty sure that others have used it after rooting and installing a custom kernel, but someone else would know better than I do.
As for rooting, it's super simple.
1) Download CF Autoroot from here https://download.chainfire.eu/844/C...Auto-Root-nobleltespr-nobleltespr-smn920p.zip
2) Unzip the file
3) Use ODIN to flash the CF Autoroot file that you just unzipped.
4) Let it reboot and do it's magic.
After that you can flash TWRP and a custom kernel or ROM if you want. Let us know if you have any other questions.

I do not have a vr either was looking into getting one and as far as I've read it's more of a kernel support and or rom support so rooted with stock rom and kernel should work but cannot test..

According to this post from the dev of the main custom ROM around here, the VR should work with his ROM, so I think as long as the ROM has the VR framework it will work. Again, don't quote me because I don't have one, but that should ease some of your concerns.

Galaxy Note 3 Aussie (Australian) Users Thread

Hey folks
Just wanted a thread for us Aussies. Had one for the Galaxy and GS4 and it held a plethora of great info regarding modems, carrier specific update info, root tips in case you miss them elsewhere etc etc... A thread to even help you keep track of other interesting threads on the Note 3 in case you miss them too.
Since I couldn't find one already I decided to create a new thread for us down under. I just bought mine today. I called Telstra 2 days ago and the operator said it might be a week or so before release. Was in shops today and it had been released yesterday. Interesting the lack of communication. Anyway here is a screenshot of my device info:
See below..
Other useful info:
Current Root Methods
- Chainfire (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/cf-auto-root-for-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3/) - easy way. Trips Knox Warranty Status. For now - can use custom recoveries, custom roms etc.
- Root de la Vega (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2479952) - Bit more effort and time but still easy. Doesn't trip Knox Warranty Status. For now - can only use stock firmware. Apparently with the new MJ3 firmware - you will need to use the next root option as using Vega root method on MJ3 firmware will still trip Knox Warranty status.
- Kingoapp (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499546) - Apparently MJ3 firmware and Vega root method trips Knox Warranty Status. Use this root method instead and be wary of future firmwares and current root methods. Read and wait before attempting root.
EDIT: Seems like the link was removed due to breach of GPL - be careful
Other good threads/xda pages:
- Some game suggestions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466414&nocache=1)
- Check to see if your Note 3 has multitouch problems (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472084)
- Fix issues with Titanium Backup restore on Note 3 (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/fix-for-titanium-backup-issues-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3/)
- Removing region lock if you bought your phone from the States or elsewhere that has region lock (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/chainfire-removes-the-galaxy-note-3-n9005-region-lock/ )...ahh good ol Chainfire.
If you have any other useful info pertinent to Aussie users then feel free to post here or at least say hello. Questions can possibly be added here also. Anyone else notice how huge this thing is? (that's what she said) But on a serious note I might need larger hands to answer calls on this phone. Loving it so far though
So in summary:
Aussie Thread
Come Say Hello

Punch a kangaroo
Remember Google is watching...no wait that's my next door neighbour. Anyways, peace.
EDIT: Updated description of root methods for new thread visitors.
Aussie 9005 owner.
Got sick of the aussie firmware - camera shutter, gallery auto rotate loss etc...
Now flashed omega rom and very happy - eagerly awaiting omnirom/cyanogen to flash.
Hows the battery life going for you? Mine seems to be on par with my note 2.
With Telstra as well? I only just charged the device maybe 10 minutes ago. I will let you know how battery life is with stock firmware. I like to play with stock settings with either carrier branded or custom rom for a few days before I go and see how close I can get to bricking my phone just to suck that last bit of battery life/performance out of it.....
Never had the Note 2 but do like the squared off edges as opposed to rounded in GS3/GS4/Note 2 IIRC. I'm probably one of the few...
What was the issue with camera shutter?

You cant silence it.
also you cant change the icons on the dock bar :-|
Flash another regions ROM (this doesn't need root and wont trigger knox) and you'll get a much better experience.
Ah yes...silence is good.
Anyone else Root their phone yet? I assume you have @Riimezv since you installed Omega?
Hey Guys,
I have made the big leap after 4 years with ios to the note 3 and tbh a bit confused with it all haha!
I bought it outright from JB on the month 2 month telstra contract pretty happy.
With the link OP put, out of those 2 mods which would be the ideal one to root with or is it fine to root more then one?
Cheers
Hello, Vega and Chainfire rooting, i will chose Chanfire (using Vega rooting = no custom Recovery + Custom Rom for Knox not tripping F**k Samsung) but i have to play with phone few more days, purchased outright in Samsung store Highpoint.
-S-View case was asked for $90 in Samsung store vs Ebay $49, the most expensive case yet for Mobile Phone.

I believe either method will work since I was about to attempt both after rooting and then attempting to unroot and try the second method...
I would be more inclined to try Chainfire's method first. Since it is a small download package. And you have all files in a nice handy zip file.
With the Vegas root method make sure you call this number in your phone dialer: *#1234# and download the AP & CSC files on the Vegas thread to the ones you see on your phone screen...There are 3 files you need totalling about 2GB IIRC. So a decent sized download and something to consider if on a limited internet plan...
I'm sure others who have rooted their phones already will be sure to jump in, hopefully.

Chainfire = Knox tripping 0x 1 = warranty void, + any custom recovery + Custom Rom.
Vega = Knox will not tripping BUT must stay on Stock Rom and Stock Recovery for Knox remain as 0 x0
-If you concern about warranty and use Vega, If you sick of stock rom and dont care about warranty use Chainfire easier.

Here's an old post Chainfire made about Knox: https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/LCfF5A9fsTG
Vega's method at least gives you root to utilise apps such as Titanium Backup and what have you so you can remove any pesky carrier apps but be careful you don't stuff anything up..So what firmware backup utilities do you have access to when using Vegas ROOT and no custom recovery? Odin. What else?

Yes indeed :good:
If you are worried about warranty as @maidangisme suggest and wish to have root (so you can install root required apps etc) use the Vegas method but you will flash the stock ROM that the method requires you to download (remember the 2GB file I mentioned).
So in short, yes either of those root 'methods' will let you install root required mods/apps. Check to see if you have any multitouch issues as per 1st post before you do anything to void warranty.

Does flash mean it will wipe/delete the ROM, then meaning to reinstall it back with the same rom, (that 2gb file)?
Im trying to watch youtube videos to try and get as much understanding as i can but cant find any that explain basic terms/meanings lol

In a very simplistic way, yes. It will overwrite the current (almost identical) ROM you currently have with a similar ROM minus all your carrier apps etc...basically a fresh start/factory reset minus annoying apps. And make sure you follow the steps exactly as stated (remember to flash the CSC file also).
Obviously you will need a PC and Samsung drivers for all this to work. These drivers should install automatically when the device is plugged in the PC or you may need to install Samsung KIES (which comes with the drivers) or just download setup for drivers here...This is so Odin can communicate with the Note 3 and flash all the relevant files required for rooting.

I believe @senectus meant that you can flash another region's rom by simply following the steps on the Vegas Root Method but skipping the final few steps to attain root, which is a waste since you can always undo ROOT using the SuperSU root app.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Dual Sim Thread - Note 3 n9002

Ok, since the old thread was plagued with paid roms, and it got archived unfortunately, I'm creating a new thread. Let's keep this healthy and clean so the information we post here wont get removed and will help more people in the long run shall we?
Update: May 3, 2014 - Added fix for Caller ID issue!
Update: May 1, 2014 - Added instructions to turn off Google Account Manager after setting up a Google Account
Update: April 9, 2014 - Added instructions to install super su after flashing new firmware and rooting.
Update: Feb 17, 2014 - Added instructions to turn off Google Bookmarks Sync after setting up a Google Account
Useful links:
How to Install/Flash Google Apps on Galaxy Note 3 N9002:
http://marrkdaviid.com/2013/10/install-google-play-on-the-samsung-galaxy-note-3-n9002/#.UsRALJYYYuo
** Please note that if you are using windows 7 to root the device using cf autoroot as instructed in the link above, you will encounter an error halfway thru the flashing process. You need to run odin 1.85 as windows xp to remedy this.
** Please note that after rooting and flashing google apps thru cwm, you will still have root access but the super su app may get lost. If that happens, please install super su from the google play store and everything will be back to normal. - thanks bigstuart for pointing that out
To fix the gapps error we see everytime we turn on the sync shortcut from the pulldown notification bar:
After setting up your google account, go to the settings menu and turn off the google bookmarks sync app. This will fix the google services has stopped error message.
To fix the google account dropping out (having to set up your google account again) turn off the google account manager app from the settings menu. Three users have confirmed this has fixed the issue.
BigStuart was able to finally find a way to fix our caller ID issue. Here's how to get it done:
Edit /system/csc/others.xml
change
Code:
<CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit>11</CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit>
to
Code:
<CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit>-1</CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit>
and add the following line:
Code:
<CscFeature_Contact_EnableDynCallerIdMatchingDigitWithAutoSim>TRUE</CscFeature_Contact_EnableDynCallerIdMatchingDigitWithAutoSim>
I added that line at the end of the file, before the closing </SamsungMobileFeature> tag.
Then reboot the phone and test caller ID
Lastly, enjoy your dual sim flagship device

2. does rooting trip knox?
3. is there much chinese bloatware that you cannot delete?
4. problems encountered the unit being released only in china?

Shouldn't. I have rooted using RDLV and have reset w/o loosing root.
2. does rooting trip knox?
It did on mine. But there seems to be some who have done it without tripping Knox. Check the forum.
3. is there much chinese bloatware that you cannot delete?
Once you root you can remove almost everything. Search the forum for a list of prog you can safely delete.
4. problems encountered the unit being released only in china?
None really. You can add Google apps, ie Play, Mail, Hangouts, Calendar. If you change the CSC settings, you will be able to set your default search, calender, etc. But read up on how to do that first, you need to back up as it will cause a reboot and loss of data.

Who gives a crap about knox anyway? This is a phone from China, if you will import it to another country, it will not have local warranty. You are not gonna send it to China if ever you need it repaired right? So go ahead and root, flash google apps, and remove all those chinese crapwares.
Im driving right now, but if needed still, i will post a link for a guide on how to do the basics in turning the n9002 to something as close as possible to n9005.

What, the last one got archived!? It was a bit long but got me off to a start and the RIP made it even better. Anyway, I best not mention that.
Well I have checked back because today I just added my 2nd sim. That's 1 Unicom, and 1 China Mobile (some westerners do live in China). It's working and the beauty is: Unicom's data seems good, but China Mobile 's national and international call rates seem better.
I am still interested in getting the best out of my N9002. I am still having a few issues and it's hard to know if they are ROM based or other. Anyway, minor issues, this phone is the best I have owned.

Fellow dual sim note 3 users, now that samsung's 4.4 update is right around the corner, i am starting to look around how we can get the 4.4 update working on our phones.
Im thinking once samsung releases the 4.4 firmware, it will be on sammobile for sure. I will download and flash it on my phone. Naturally, i will lose root, and google apps. I will have to root and flash google apps again. Question is, where are we going to get the 4.4 gapps package? I found this site and it also contains the 4.3 gapps that was listed in mark daviid's method:

What do you guys think?

You asked a yes or no question. With that setup, you simply can't root without tripping knox - the only root method available to the g920p on 5.1.1 trips knox (and no you can't downgrade to 5.0.2 either). Sorry.

That's the good news - it's super easy, and takes just a few minutes.
step 1 - odin one of the kernels from this thread.
And that's it. You're now rooted. Most people go with the one labeled 920p (UniKernel-v6-0001-920P-080215.tar) - its a port of the unikernel, which gets rid of the lags and stutters that crop up on the phone.
You can then odin this version of TWRP, which will allow you to flash other zips in recovery. I think you can even odin this first if you want, then flash the kernel in recovery like any other zip.
check out this thread for more cool stuff to do once rooted. We even have a working version of xposed now.
edit - make sure you have OEM Unlocking enabled in Developer Options before flashing the kernel

Rooting Options

Hello. I want to root my S6. It's firmware is 6.0.1. I hear there is an option that trips the KNOX on 6.0.1., so if I root it on 6.0.1., I want to make sure I do it absolutely correctly, so I don't mess anything up, because you know as well as me that if the KNOX is tripped and the phone is bricked, you're outa luck with Samsung. So is there a guide for any sort of newbies on how to do this?
Awhile back, I rooted it on 5.0.2., and wanted to update it, so I used Odin to restore my phone. I used pingpongroot, so the the KNOX was left intact. That said, does anyone know if I can downgrade to 5.0.2. and root without tripping the KNOX? Pretty sure I have old 5.0.2. files around from when I restored my phone the first time.
Also, does anyone know if a rooted phone with a tripped KNOX fetches less than a normal phone when you are selling it. I may sell this in the future, probably to Verizon. If I wipe and restore everything with Odin before selling, will they care about the voided warranty?
There is currently no way to root a Verizon s6 on version 6 and once on version 6 there's no way to downgrade to 5.0.2.

Oh gotcha! I was under the impression that there was a root available for the S6 6.0.1. Is Verizon not supported?

At this point I don't really care if I trip Knox or not. Just need the root. I've brought my phone back from many many soft bricks and a few hard bricks <not fun.
It is Verizon. They do not care about you.
I'm on 5.0.2. May I know which methods to use to root my G920V?

T-Mobile stock 7.0 HELP!

Hey guys. I have a T-Mobile Note5 that I rooted but now I need to get it back to stock so I can sell it to upgrade to the Note8. The problem I am having is I can't seem to find the stock rom for T-Mobile Android 7.0. Also, if I have to go back to Marshmallow, will the trip counter prevent me from updating the phone to 7.0 anyway? And will said trip counter still not allow things like Samsung Pay to work because it was previously rooted? I am familiar with using Odin and can flash just fine, I just need the T-Mobile Android 7.0 stock rom for the note5.
