Fingerprint sensor calibration problems - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i enter the testing menu on *#0*# and test the fingerprint sensor i get 1 pass and other tests fail. My fingerprint scanner is working fine btw. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and whats their phone's status ? Tia

I have been looking for an explanation as well. I've tested this on my S6, and two S6 Edge straight out the box. They all failed in at least two tests.
As long as the fingerprint sensor is working though, I don't really care.

Fingerprint sensor not works with miui11

I have a problem with the fingerprint sensor.. Since I switched to miui 11 with android 10 the sensor worked at times. It works for a day or two, then the menu disappears from the settings and i can no longer use it.
I try tu update vendor partition, wipe data, format data, reinstall new rom with all wipes, reinstall stock rom with Mi FlashTool, any solution works..When i wipe all, it works for a while and than, suddenly, doesn't work anymore!!
I have Mix 2S, i'm sure that is not an hardware problem..
Replace fingerprint sensor
I don't know why you say that you're sure that it's not a hardware problem, but to me, it sounds like the sensor is broken. I suffered this issue in my own Mi Mix 2s and it was caused because the "cable" of the sensor was folded (it's not really a cable, it's more like a flat plastic connector) and it worked one day and not the next. I finally decided to fix it by myself, looking for a youtube video about disassembling the phone and with these tools and the replacement sensor it was pretty easy (and quite cheap, frankly). I hope it helps!

I had the same problem. Mi mix 2s had a problematic/bad assembly line.
I have exactly the same issue. After Android 10 update the fingerprint sensor works for a while. After one day I recognized that the fingerprint sensor is not working anymore. And there are no options or settings in the system settings anymore. So I assume a software problem.

This problem is very boring!!! Have you try a solution, or a temporary fix???
No, I have no idea how to fix. Seems we have to wait till the next update from Xiaomi, which hopefully will fix the problem. It is really boring.

Your assumption is wrong... these options will not show up if the system can't find the fingerprint sensor... Had the same problem and it turned out to be a hardware fault, exactly like mentioned by Kaliotto. You can do a simple test via CIT (tap multiple times on kernel-version). You will find a fingerprint sensor check in there. If it does not find the sensor, it is broken, simple as that. Replacing the sensor is really no voodoo, did it in a timeframe of 30 minutes myself and it was really the first time I ever opened a smartphone. And the parts are really cheap.

I read on differents sites a lot of people who had problems with fingerprint sensor after upgrading to miui 11 with android 10..i don't think that all of us had hardware problem at the same time of the upgrading, it's very strange...
so, to avoid any doubt, i'm searching a new fingerprint sensor..the site suggested in the second posts seems to have problems with payment, any times i try to buy with paypal o credit card, the payment was refused..so i'm searching another reliable site..
I solved the problem. In my case it was defenitely a software bug. I tried to run the fingerprint test at CIT and the phone reminded me that the phone is protected by a PIN and can not enroll fingerprint information. So I switched of the PIN protection and the fingerprint test runs positive. Since that time, the fingerprint options in the setting was back again and I was able to setup the fingerprint sensor as usually.
So I thing the deactivation of PIN protection was the solution to get the fingerprint sensor working again.

So, you only disabled pin in the lockscreen (and set swipe method to unlock the phone)??
I tried now disabling pin and restarted the phone, but no options in the settings menu
Can you give me more details? Thanks
Update! After one day of use, I have to say, that the fingerprint sensor still does not work proper. After a while the fingerprint sensor stops working again. I played around with the settings, disabled the PIN protection and start the phone several times and than the fingerprint sensor was working again for a while. There is still something wrong. Also the CIT test sometimes pass and sometimes fail. Maybe it is hardware failure after all.
What I did: I disabled the password (PIN) protection, means no protection at all. After that I was able to run the fingerprint sensor test at CIT ( as cdfs wrote). This test was pass and the settings to configure the fingerprint sensor appears again in the system settings and the sensor worked for a while.
Since this procedure the function of the sensor is not consistent and I can not definitely say what to do to get it works. In the meantime I think that all the described workaround just works by accident.
NEWS: i changed stock kernel with two modded kernel (Twisted v22 && LawRun9.0_60hz) and fingerprint start to works again!!!
So, my idea was real: it's a software problem!!!!
Try it yourself and give me your feedback
Hi,
I had also the issue that the fingerprint sensor was not recognized. I replaced it.
Then the option was there again but it doesn't read any fingerprints.
The CIT test fails by the last step "Pixel open test"
Then I got a second new fingerprint sensor and replaced it again.
The test fails again in the last step!
These are the CIT messages:
Autotest: Testing
SPI test: Success
Reset pin test: Success
Interrupt pin test: Sucess
Pixel open test: FAIL
So I would say it is a Software Issue
Hello,
so I at the end found some users, having exactly that problem!
I bought a new sensor and changed it. Pixel Opem Test failed.
I bought another sensor with the same result: Pixel Open Test failed.
Is there a usefull solution?

Fingerprint unlock Problems

Most of the time fingerprint unlock works perfect, but sometimes it wont accept my fingerprint at all. After a while it just works perfectly again. Screen isnt dirty. Anyone Else has this Problem? I Hope its Just a Software Bug...
Register the same finger again as 2nd fingerprint.
Probably it will from then work just fine
I have noticed that fingerprint doesn't work (or have to try many times) in stronger sunlight ...

Umidigi S5 Pro FP Sensor Calibration

I've just replaced the screen on my friends S5 Pro and currently don't have a working FP sensor. I've double checked and the sensor is seated correctly and there is nothing obscuring its little window on the screen.
I want to recalibrate the sensor, but cannot find a way to do this. All of the useful dialer hidden codes are disabled. It might be that doing a factory reset or re-flashing the full firmware would trigger the sensor to calibrate itself, however my friend spent days getting everything just how he likes things and says he'd rather live without the sensor than have to set everything up again and doesn't trust non-root backup solutions to work properly. He doesn't want to unlock his bootloader, so rooting is out of the question.
Does anyone know of any way to get into some kind of engineering mode on this phone to be able to force a fingerprint sensor calibration?

The fingerprint sensor went completely over the cuckoo's nest in my Umidigi S5 Pro for no apparent reason, now I can't use it at all. Any ideas?
Same thing happened to me shortly after an OTA update if I remember correctly... any luck with a fix thus far?

Samsung Galaxy A51 Fingerprint Sensor Calibration needed

I have an issue on Samsung A515U
I already did factory data reset and upgraded to Android 11, nothing works.
I'm searching for firmware of Android 9 for this model and haven't found it yet.
Can anyone help me pls
Hello!
You can check the Samsung Fingerprint Sensor with Samsung Phone Code.
Just dial (like typing in a phone number) the Samsung Sensor Code: *#0*#
Then tap on Sensor, where you can check Samsung Accelerometer Sensor, Gyroscope Sensor, DL Magnetic Sensor, and Fingerprint Sensor.
In the Fingerprint section, Tap on “Normal Scan” and see which tests it passes and which one fails.
This is just an information, you can't repair or change anything.
Your plan to downgrade to an older android version is NOT a good idea.
They made very important changes (filesystem, security, framework structure....) in the newer versions. You might brick your phone and can't use it anymore.
To improve your fingerprint take a look at this postings Speed up fingerprint
Good luck!
Thanx for answering
I've already done what you mentioned and didn't work. I checked the sensor dialing that code and it seems to be good
Same issue here... did you get yours fixed yet?
same here, I do factory reset but no fix.
why this happen ?
solution: I went to a service store and they replace the sensor.
The test reports that the sensor is ok (all tests show as PASS), but I still get the "Fingerprint sensor calibration needed" message.
How can I calibrate the sensor? Where can I find the procedure?

Well this looks like a problem faced by most Samsung users after updating their phones. There is no exact way to fix this since Samsung is yet to release a fix to this issue.
But you can try this:
Change your lock, to swipe to unlock, which will delete your fingerprint data. Then set up your fingerprint lock again, rescanning your fingerprints like you did the first time you set your lock screen options.
I had/have the same issue after installing a backup of one A51 to another A51.
All runs fine, but the fingerprint.
Doing a factory reset -> fingerprint is OK and working.
Using the copy on the "wrong" phone -> fingerprint is NOT working
So it's no hardware issue, but I have not found a solution yet
Try to reflash the whole system with Odin and get the software from samfw

General An Interesting Solution To Fingerprint Scanner Not Working in AOD

Hello,
This is my first post probably after 6-7 years.
In my Pixel 7 Pro [which is a little over one month and one week old] I have found the onscreen FP scanner does not always work when the phone is in AOD mode. If I touch the FP scanner nothing happens; it feels as if it is an image LOL.
Searched internet a bit and found this phenomena is a common problem with phones that have onscreen FP scanner [perhaps more specifically with optical scanner? I dunno].
Checked the solutions and none worked until I found out that if my default finger [which happens to be my right thumb] does not activate the FP scanner it has always been my left thumb that works perfectly fine. It is as if the Scanner was waiting for my other finger to press LOL.
Both my thumbs are clean/have same state of cleanliness during operation.
I think this could be helpful to those who probably scratch their head wondering as to why the FP scanner does not work in AOD. If you have more than one finger assigned, just try the other one.
This also raises a question to me [which might be lame], is Google doing it intentionally requiring the other fingerprint sometimes?
Agreed. Fingerprint scanner is unreliable regardless of AOD. Adding multiple fingers can help, but the reader is just wonky (that's a technical term)
It's worthless. Such an aggravation I just use the login code.
Don't know what you people are doing, my fingerprints (both thumbs) work just fine, once in a blue moon it might miss the first time, however I have never had a failed fingerprint unlock from either AOD or lock screen.
I never have issues with my fingerprint scanner on all 4 fingers I added
