Hello,
I just purchased a Galaxy S7, and want to flash a rom to it to remove some of the Chinese settings and bloat. I've already rooted it (easy part), but I'm unsure about how to proceed. I want to make sure I have a backup of the original FW that I can put back on via Odin if something goes wrong, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for at sammobile. I've attached all the info that I got from Phone INFO app hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I'm most confused about the CSC, as I can't find anything with that same code. And it seems a lot of the others have the same PDA as mine.
For what it's worth, or if anyone can give any advice on customization; I don't care about the DUAL SIM feature (so long as it doesn't affect the microSD card) and would love to get the little "1" next to the phone calls and SMS messages removed.
Thanks in advance.

Hi. I'm no expert but here's what I believe are your next steps:
1. Using Odin you should install TWRP (for recovery). This is where you will install and uninstall most ROMS, Kernels, etc.
Before using Odin and installing TWRP make sure you unlock the Developer Options and activate USB Debugging and OEM Unlock.
2. With TWRP installed, you can now install any ROM. I suggest you install SupermanROM (it's fantastic and it has OTA updates).
Now for each of those things I've told you make sure you read their long instructions.
I hope you enjoy your S7 and the amazing SupermanRom.

Thank you for the reply. I have already installed TWRP and have all the files needed for Superman. At this point, I want to make sure I have the files needed to flash back to Stock in case something goes wrong. The problem is that I don't know which stock files I need to download.
u can always go back to stock.
1.) download SAMSUNG KIES
2.) open SAMSUNG KIES
3.) click tools , select Firmware upgrade and initialization
4.) Model Name : SM-G930F
5.) your serial #
click OK
follow steps

I thought I seen somewhere that KIES no longer works after KNOX is tripped? If it does, I would still use 930F even though my model is G930FD?

Internal storage problem
I purchased what shows to be an unlocked Galaxy S7 32Gb (32GB marked on the back of the phone) - Model SM-G930FD - originally T-Mobile.
The phone looks immaculate and shows no physical signs of being opened or tampered with.
I have not put in a new SIM card or taken the phone to be activated on my plan yet. I did put in a 128GB micro card. (Q- I don't assume putting in a SIM card would resolve any of the below issues?)
In settings the phone shows to have 32GB internal storage and recognizes the MicroSD card, but when I connect it to my computer the internal storage only shows 17.5MB available... So obviously when I tried to load the Chrome browser (40+ MB) I got an insufficient memory message. I was hoping it was just reading the available storage wrong.
When I look at Storage under settings it shows that the phone has 32GB internal and 28.15GB available, and it shows 125GB available on the SD Card.
Some of the other info from my About Phone page:
Android Version 6.0.1
Kernel Version:
3.18.14-7162483
[email protected] #1
Wed Aug 17 21:29:07 CST 2016
Build number
MMB29K.G930FXXU1APB6
SE for Android status
Enforcing
SEPF_SECMOBILE_6.0.1_0004
Sat Feb 06 12:08:15 2016
Hardware version
MP 1.000
I tried resetting the phone and erasing all data and it is still the same.
Phone comes on and seems to run fine.
I can't even flush it, I tried rooting it with kingroot which was success, I installed superuser and twrp app which did not help as it can't find my device name under select your device on the twrp app, and when I try try to navigate the files to flush still no luck as I can't find those zip files.
Also when I try to do it manually by restarting the phone by v+, home and power button to recovery
I can't find install zip, it's just
Reboot system now
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
That's it
So before I put it up on eBay to get rid of it - is there anything I can do to try to release/recognize the internal storage??
Thank you in advance!!

I am very new to this rooting things and I bought a used Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Moel Number GT-N8013 which is running 4.0.4.
When I attempted Software Update through Settings->About -> Software Update - it downloaded around 460MB and at the time of installation it brought up a screen with a title given below:
Clockwork kMod Recovery v6.0.1.1
I didn't want to damage anything so choose 'reboot system'. Then received the dialog box that the installation failed when the note booted back.
Then I googled and found a lot of info about it but don't see 'SuperSu' icon in my system to confirm if it is rooted.
Now can somebody tell me how to get this system upgraded to 4.1.2 or 4.2?
Thanks in advance.

Most likely it has been rooted but do this to check
Boot into odin mode ...... by pushing power and vol. down at same time with tablet on..... when tablet restarts and warning screen appears lift off buttons........ then press vol. up.
The next screen will tell you if it is rooted..
downloads should be 0
current binary should not say custom
system status should not say custtom
For latest firmware
Go to this web site http://samfirmware.com/ register for free.
then go to the CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE tab put in your model # / country (if usa - use cellular south) and hit check firmware... then download latest firmware.
Go back to odin mode and use odin to to install firmware. This video should help to unroot back to stock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsDOSvBdALg
.
When I did the following:
"by pushing power and vol. down at same time with tablet on..... when tablet restarts and warning screen appears lift off buttons........ then press vol. up"
In the top left screen, following was displayed:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-N8013
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Which means the tablet is not rooted but only the cwm recovery is installed?
Can I still download the new ROM onto my sd card and flash it with the option that displays "intall from sd card'?
Thanks in advance

installed or if you can install SuperSU from Google play, you would be rooted.
If you want to return to a factory stock unit and you are not rooted you should root the unit, install Triangle away https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway to reset the CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD...... then follow the directions in post #2 from this thread.
.
"If you have SuperSU installed or if you can install SuperSU from Google play, you would be rooted."
But the download site it requires a rooted device:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
Description
SuperSU is the Superuser access management tool of the future
!!! SuperSU requires a rooted device !!!
And the same is required for Triangle away as per google play.
Or with the current state, can I just flash a 4.1.x ROM using the CWM recovery that is installed in the tablet?
I really don't need it to be rooted and all i need is to get the JB on my system. Is this something doable with the current state of my tablet?
Thanks.

Yes you can. Just flash with a factory rom and then do a factory reset after wards. You will then be able to get updates.
Do you know how to do that?
.
Is the following correct?
1) Download the rom.zip and copy it to my SD card.
2) Turn off the tablet
3) Press the Power+Volume Up button until CWM Recovery screen appears
4) Choose the install from SD card and choose the zip file
5) Reboot the system

No, you need to follow the directions in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsDOSvBdALg I know it is a video to unroot but your issues requires the same process to remove CWM as it and your custom firmware need to be removed to be able to get OTA updates.

Awesome! This is the link i needed and my tablet is back to stock fully and running 4.1.2! Thank you very much!
:laugh:Hello guys,
This is my first tutorial on the XDA-developers forum, in order to improve myself and be more efficient, do not hesitate to comment, or ask questions, I will be more then happy to answer since I have spent so much time on this, using two different I9505, mine and my boss's. So without further ado, let's get started
Here is a full guide on how to downgrade your I9505 from 4.4.2 to 4.3. KNOX WILL TRIGGER, there are other tutorials that show how to downgrade 4.4.2 to 4.3 without triggering the knox, I will explain some of them, but they are not 100% successful.
Do it on your own risk, neither me nor XDA-developers will be responsible if you brick or damage your phone.Nevertheless, if you follow those exact steps, you won't have any problem (you may actually have some, but we can solve them together).
Requirements:
Samsung galaxy S4 I9505
Rooted phone
CWM or any custom Recovery
CyanogenMod 10.2.1 [click here] (jellybean 4.3.1) or any other custom with its proper kernel
Google apps jellybean [here]
(May need) Modem FNC4 or any above FNB8 [here]
(May need) Pit File to resolve some problems [here]
[KNOX 0x1 (triggered) WORKS 100%]
[Step 1: Optional, only if you can root your phone]
Before we start, I advice you backup your phone, save your EFS folder which contains your IMEI and other "sensitive information" related to your phone:
To do that, first you need to root your phone, then use a file explorer such as "ES FILE EXPLORER".
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Go to your explorer and turn on "root explorer".
Once you have done that, go to your root folder.
Copy the folder called EFS to your SD Card.
(Optional)Make another copy on your HDD or file-hosting provider.
[Step 2: Installing the rom]
Copy your CyanogenMod or any other 4.3 custom fw + Google apps into your sdcard
Shutdown your phone
Press and hold down volume up, home button and power button to start in recovery mode (for about 5secondes)
Wipe data/cache (if you have philztouch, chose that you will install a new rom) and press YES
Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache YES
Install zip from sdcard -> chose cyanogenmod zip file -> YES
Install zip from sdcard -> chose gapps zip file -> YES
Reboot your computer.
[Step 3: Resolving some problems]
If the phone application crashes whenever you try to make a phone-call, then you should flash your modem.
1.Shutdown you phone.
2.Press and hold down volume down, home button and power button to start in download mode until you see the confirmation, then press up to continue
3.Plug your micro usb cable into your phone, go to odin
4.Select modem (or CP for odin 3.09) and select the modem file
5.Uncheck Autoreboot
6.Click Start
7.Once done, unplug your cable, take off the battery, put it back, redo steps 2 to 4
8.Check this time Autoreboot and Start the process
If you flash your phone and you don't have the sound, then I advice you go back to 4.4.2, and follow this guide from the beginning
[KNOX 0x0 (not triggered) WIFI OFF]
I do see the point to go back to 4.3 (a lot of applications don't work properly on Kitkat + better performances for the S4 on Jellybean), however, I don't know if someone can use his phone without the wifi. Anyway, if you want you can try this method, for simply go back to 4.3, use saferoot and install mobile odin to go to 4.4.2 rooted, without triggering the knox (be aware that there is a simple method which roots the 4.4.2 but this doesn't work on newer 4.4.2).
I remind you that KNOX triggers only if you use a custom rom or modified kernel, in that case Knox turns to 0x1, and this cannot be undone.
Instead of writing my method, I find out two threads on xda.
First one, you cannot make phonecalls unless you flash the modem, and then you won't have the wifi anymore.[here]
Second, not tested yet, but it is promising, you can find out [here]
That's it guys, hope this will help you find your happiness.

No adapter used.
My phone seems to be region locked, btu. I had an unlocking pin code to use another sim. But, when I am using the phone in India, It doesn't asks the pin but I get No SIM, I can see the signals on the statusbar & in about/status. It is not able to resolve the network. The /system/csc/customer.xml file states the mmc 404 as network blocked. The changing of network bands is also not possible. It is set by default at lte/wcdma/gsm.
I tried downgrading to 4.3 but got the phone in emergency mode, probably due to the locked bootloader. The Service Mode by *#0011# doesn't moves after the initial page.
How do I get through this mess? Kindly help in solving the issue.

Mmm I am afraid your phone is region locked, in this case it is very difficult to resolve the issue, for example if you are in Turkey your phone must be registered through a service, or purchased locally, I don't know maybe in India it is the same, meanwhile, try using your original sim Card, if it works, try using another sim card, i have a sim card that works on my Oneplus One but doesn't on the S4, it is crazy but what can we do. Finally, (before selling or throwing out your phone) try to visit this thread it might be helpful to follow those steps, visit all the links there, each one propose a solution. Hope you will find your happiness.
Regards.

Well, I just purchased this device and came here after that to look at what we had and I'm disgusted.
And there are several reasons for that, being:
1 - Locked Bootloader...
2 - This forum seems somewhat abandoned, which leads it to be somewhat disorganized.
EdiT:
Thanks to our friend repey6 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5704037
TWRP 2.8.7.0 is now included, and it works just ok, with all functionality.
I strongly recommend you to use it instead of any other recovery. Just make sure to backup your ROM again after installing it, as CWM or Carliv backups won't work in TWRP.
I replaced the old TWRP included in the attachments with the new one provided by repey6, but the installation process remains the same.
Plus, this was not created by me and it's mad old (2014). But still it works better than the Carliv Recovery we have available here...
So Let's go. The proccess is the same for both, just choose the recovery image you want in the end of the topic.
(almost forgot to say that if your phone bricks it's you responsibility, I tested it in mine and it is working fine)
STEPS:
STEP1- Root your phone (if it's not rooted yet).
To root your phone you'll need to:
a-Download the framaroot APK provided in the attachments
b-Install it then click in the Boromir option and the su binary will be installed.
c-Download SuperSU from google play store.
That's all, simple like that.
STEP2- Check your bootloader's S1 Version
a-Open your dialer and input *#*#7378423#*#* , then go to Service Info>Software Info> S1 Boot Version.
b- Check if yours is 2.14.J.2.6 or 2.14.J.2.13 or 2.14.J.2.16 . If yours is one of these go ahead, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
If yours is 2.14.J.0.68 do not proceed, as it will 100% brick your phone.
c- My phone has S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.1.15 and in spite of the developer having not mentioned anything about it, I risked it all and my phone flashed the recovery normally, so if your version is also 2.14.J.1.15, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
STEP3 - Install the recovery
NOW, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL HERE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE:
a-Download the mobileuncle.apk file provided in the attachments and install it.
b-Download the twrp_xperia_C.img file provided below and put it in your internal memory (not on the external). Rename it to recovery.img, otherwise mobile uncle won't see it.
Now, here's the part you have to mind, so you won't brick your phone.
Mobile uncle can install a recovery using one of two methods. One is by installing the image from your internal memory (which we'll be doing). Other is installing it from the internet.
Now, YOU DON'T WANT to install a recovery from the internet, as mobile uncle doesn't provide any image for your device. So if you flash any of these recoveries, you'll never be able to make your phone boot again.
See in the image below and you'll get what I mean:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
c - So, before proceeding TURN OFF YOUR WIFI AND DATA CONNECTIONS so that mobile uncle won't show any recovery from internet
d-Open mobile uncle.
e-Grant Super User
f-Press "Recovery Update"
g- With wifi turned off, you'll see only your recovery in the screen
h- Click it, the file size of the file I'm posting must be around 6MB ( 6210KB for CWM), if it's different cancel and download file again.
i- press ok and restart.
DONE
:good:
EDIT:
I just noticed that after flashing the recovery you might get your phone stuck in the SONY logo after it.
In fact it happened to me, but just once.
If that happens don't panick. Recove the cover of your phone and besides the SIM-2 slot you'll see a tiny role with the word "reset". Insert a needle in there and your phone will restart normally.

It should work in both, I'm using a recovery for C2305 in my C2304.
Just don't try flashing a C2305 ROM on your C2304. It will not hardbrick your phonw, but the SIM cards will not work and you will get a mad functioning phones.
Some custom ROM's based on stock firmware work in both though.

Sorry for the late reply! Haven't been able to test this until recently due to an issue getting my PC to work properly with my phone. Anyway, I would like to confirm that I was able to flash this on my Xperia C2305 that had S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.0.68. The photo below is proof of CWM running on my Xperia C2305:
Things you will need:
WMShua SuperFlash: http://soft.flushrom.com/WMShuaSetup.exe (after installing, you can change the language to English by renaming Program Files/wmshua/language to Program Files/wmshua/language_x)
Xperia C 16.0.B.2.16 FTF: C2305_16.0.B.2.16_TacoNikky.ftf or C2305_16.0.B.2.16_Congngheviet.ftf (pick one; I used TacoNikky's version)
Procedure:
1. Open WMShua, then click on Flash (not Super Flash). Browse to the FTF file you downloaded. You can choose to backup system before flash (I unchecked it on mine). Follow the screenshot below for guidance:
2. Turn off your phone. Next, hold down the Vol- (volume down) button on your phone. While holding down, plug in the micro USB cable. The LED will flash red. When it changes to green, release the Vol- button. WMShua should automatically try to install the needed drivers. After installing drivers, it will begin the flashing process. If your phone turns on instead, simply unplug it from the USB, turn it off, then try again.
The flash process may take a long time (it took 30+ minutes for me), and sometimes it may look like it hanged, but it's actually working. Just be patient. Once it reaches 100%, your phone will automatically boot up. Check your S1 Boot Version—it should now be 2.14.J.2.16. You may find that you've lost root, so you will need to root it again (I use KingoRoot). After rooting, follow the instructions on the first post to install CWM or TWRP. Good luck!
How to root samsung j max [sm-t285yd] ???
Pls help...!!!
Plz help me... I can't root my Samsung {t285yd} J max.
:crying:
i also want to root this device. i try all things like king root,towel root everything but no luck.. devloper plz help us to root this device.
Nothing Work
I have been working on a root for this device for the last 6 months. The only place I have made any headway was CF Auto-root. I'm not able to post links yet so just search cf auto root. On the page type sm-t285yd and two options will pop up. Choose one and look for your firmware build. I have not been able to root as of yet, even with this site. It gives you boot/recovery/cf auto-root package. Most of the problems I have faced are due to not being able to get to the recovery once it is flashed in Odin. I will be searching for answers and root until I find one. Of course, I will post it here when I finally break my phone.
Some Light in the Tunnel
I have made some headway with Magisk. I have never used any of the software associated with Magisk, but it seems at least for now, it will do the trick. I will dive into it further tonight and try to post an update shortly.

I have made some headway with Magisk. I have never used any of the software associated with Magisk, but it seems at least for now, it will do the trick. I will dive into it further tonight and try to post an update shortly.

In order to flash Magisk you need to have a custom recovery right?. So may I know how you did it?.
You don't need a custom recovery for Magisk. From here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445) you follow the odin steps.
there are two ways to install, first was "via custom recovery" and the other "via Magisk Manager v14.0+"
This method does not require root or custom recovery.
you'll need a stock boot image you can extract from tar or md5
Here are the instructions from XDA not my work "By topjohnwu, Recognized Developer / Recognized Contributor on 3rd October 2016, 06:00 PM"
"This method does not need root, and also does not require a custom recovery.
However, you MUST have a stock boot image dump beforehand, and also be able to flash the patched boot image, either through fastboot/download mode or ODIN
Install the latest Magisk Manager
If you're planning to flash the patched boot image through ODIN, go to Settings > Update Settings > Patched Boot Output Format, and select .img.tar. For normal users leave it as the default .img
Press Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File, and select your stock boot image file
Magisk Manager will now patch your boot image, and store it in [Internal Storage]/MagiskManager/patched_boot.img[.tar]
Flash the patched boot image to your device and reboot. Voilà!
Check whether Magisk Manager is installed and the version matches the latest one in the OP
If for some reason Magisk Manager isn't installed/upgraded automatically, please install it manually"
Hope this helps!

Samsung Galaxy tab J SM-T285YD Dual Sim ROOTED
Hello everyone, this is my first post on XDA, I hope I won't be boring anyone. But it seems that there is no complete guide or tutorial to root the SM-T285YD. I will post here what I did to root it, I followed the lead of some of the other users in this thread and some from other sources.
My device is the SM-T285YD Dual Sim. Here is what I did;
I checked which rom I had installed on my device, it was stock rom from Taiwan, ****T285YDZTU0APL2, android version 5.1.1
I googled for the rom and found it somewhere, it wasn't difficult. I went with Magisk. The instructions were: copy the rom to your device. Here comes the problem, the rom is 2GB it will take up the little free storage left on your internal. So I copied it to my SD card instead. Next instruction, install the magisk apk, version 7. Go to settings in magisk and change the output format to what you intent to use to flash it with after you're done. You have two options; *.img or *.tar. I intended to use Odin to flash when I was done, so I chose *.tar.
When you open Magisk, it will tell you it is not installed, so click install, after which two options appear. Choose "patch rom", select the downloaded rom you saved to your sd card and wait. It will produce a patched boot image in *.img or *.tar file of about 8MB and saves it in your download folder in your internal storage. It may save it in the Magisk folder, just look for it once it is done patching. Copy this patched boot file back to your PC and put the tablet in download mode, then flash it, I had a tar and flashed it with odin 3.10.6
A problem that occurred with me was, although I copied the stock rom I downloaded to the SD card, I still didn't have enough space on my internal storage for Magisk to do it's job, so I had to delete EVERYTHING I could. Flashing went lightning fast and the reboot only took a minute or so longer than normal. ROOTED!!!
Good luck everybody. Hope it helps.
(I edited the text here to make it hopefully clearer and easier to understand, some people didn't quite get it, hope it is clearer now. Of course, as always, if you're not sure about it, or new to it, leave it alone. There is always the risk to brick your device)
It should work if you do it right. Good luck!
This doesn't help.
What didn't work, exactly?

It does not work, after flashing when I restart the tablet a red text appears in the left corner saying "KERNEL SEANDROID IS NOT ENFORCING" and it stucks on there. I tried to restart it lots of times also did a factory reset but nothing is working.

2) What is the date of the latest available update, and how can I update to it?

After reading this I was hoping that you could steer me in the right direction. I have a C9 Pro and it wont boot up properly. It remains at the samsung screen and then shuts down. I went on www.sammobile.com to search the firmware variants but could not find one for Canada. I know how to use Odin and I know how to flash my phone, so that isn't my concern. my concern is that I am unable to find the variant I need. The one for China that I found says its "open market" but that only means for China that it is open right? or can I use that over here in Canada? Also once I flash the phone with Odin would you suggest that I use TWRP as well?
thank you in advance for your help I really appreciate it. KARELESE1
try this
