It's possible to make edge panel persistent? - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if it's possible to make the panel persistent. I'd like it to be visilbe all the time instead of autohiding when entering apps. Is this even possible with root or custom rom?

Not a whole lot of mods for the Edge. Best mod I've seen is RuggedHunter's AutoCocktail. Search RuggedHunter in the play store. Also that 24hr night clock mod...
Seems like having the panel fully visible would block stuff.

That's pretty cool, even though it's not what I'm looking for. I wonder if it would be difficult to make by myself. I'm a programmer but never tried android modding. When edge panels are active on the home screen, they don't block stuff, maybe that would be possible in normal apps ass well. Is there any developer who could at least give me any hint where to start or if this is even possible to do? I found a simple workaround for this. If you'll start popup window and make it as big as possible, you can use both app and screen all the time. Perhaps it would be possible to force apps to launch as popup which would take entire homescreen except edge?

[Q] My video for a Homescreen Launcher proposal

I want to create a new launcher and ive been reading the internet for tutorials and been messing with google app inventor but it just hasnt been working out.
im limited to design work and the idea is in my head but i need help with someone who knows how to code. heres a rough draft i did a few minutes ago to show an idea of what i want. theres still a lot of features i want to show but i didnt feel the need to put them all in this little sketch video.
if you like the idea and want to work with me, we can team up, u can message me in my inbox.

Hey, that looks pretty awesome.
Couple of questions though.
1) Is that a widget your intending for the centre of each screen, or is it the only place you can put icons?
2) Is the gap at the top and bottom being reserved for anything?
3) The dock bar at the bottom is showing differant icons on each 'screen'. Intended? Are they screen independant or do differant screens show differant icons?
4) What design reason is that large 'apps' rectangle at the bottom? Is that being filling by something else?

Theme or ROM?

So I'm curious about looks vs. functionality
Each one of my little drawings here satisfy both.
First off, I apologize for being a retard and using cam scanner to make these images sideways (although they were right side up originally).
Seeing as I can't attach images directly from my phone onto this site, I had to email them to myself, download them and then re attach.
Also another retard thing, I made a home button (app) thing on both of them even though there is a physical one on the phone itself.
Have a look
Also clarify with me which is which (theme or ROM).
How hard is it to design/engineer this and actually have everything function properly?
Theme/ROM 1
Them/ROM
it looks like you want to pull the whole status bar to the bottom of your phone. i didnt think you could just move that stuff around. a Dev would would be able to give u a yes or no.
im leaning more towards a theme than a Rom. but you can only theme what the Rom has. and NO rom has that, that i know of. so its like a combination of both.
Those drawings appear to be a significant layout overhaul, a la Sense and Touchwiz
It would either be:
1) a full-blown ROM
2) A replacement for a number of system apps (but could be an add-on), at the very least the launcher and probably the lockscreen
More than just basic theming, that's for sure.
Well it certainly gives the phone a neater, "in my opinion more efficient" functionality.
The one with the radial app dial, that spins, (you guys probably could tell that already) can fit either 7 or 8 apps.
When you press the home button the phone app automatically aligns directly above the said home button (non physical assuming there are 7 apps not 8).
The apps that go on the radial thing-a-ma-jig are your primary apps.
However since that non-physical home button is not needed, then the phone would be in the center or perhaps you'd like the browser.
In any case whichever app you use most extensively (ie #1).
I certainly cannot do any of the ROM creating but I was hoping to spark interest with the ones who are able to do so with ease.
The one with the triangle side bars (next image) these have 1-3 icons on them, when you tap that icon the first time a box will come up over lapping everything else in the background (or with slight opacity) and that gives you more detail rather than just an icon.
I think it would be neat as hell if this was done.
So is it like, theme = aesthetics ; rom = function
In this case I'd like to do both.
Also the capability to assign any app in that 7-8 slot (radial) would also be nice.
Perhaps done through the command prompt.
This is a feature I picked up from a blackberry (ability to assign any icon to a specific design/theme).
Thanks for the interest, I'm going to try and fix the orientation.
Some of what you're looking to do (the home-dial concept) may be doable without any ROM development at all - after all, plenty of launchers are installable as apps and what you're describing there is a launcher concept.
Notification bar moving could be a lot harder though.
FYI I'm a kernel guy not an app developer, so I can't help you much other than say that I'm fairly certain one of the features you want to implement can be done as a launcher app for any ROM.
Alright alright, we're sifting through sonething here.
I have very little knowledge od 'kernel' 'launchable' 'rom' as far as developing them goes. Are there tutorials ? (search bar probably)
Thanks for your contributions
What about color (borders keys etc)
Nice drawings man

Hey thanks DevilDogAK
It's one thing to draw the idea by hand but to actually create it with code...
That's where the tires hit the road one might say.
I need to do some reading to get an idea of what I have to accomplish.
Thanks for the interest, as always it starts with a dream
I'll let you guys know whats up when I actually get to the point of dev
But team work goes a long way (hint hint hint)
sweet... great concept imo, & hey, cyanogen started with just a concept. wish i knew more to help you out, but we're with you in spirit nice drawings too lol

About the launcher comment, does having two mean more computing power needed to run the first and second launcher or can I just do one primary launcher?
If I can just move things around, what about putting some notification components under the wheel? Components such as the wifi toggle and the data image or perhaps the data and battery.
Anyone smart enough to do that probably isn't dicking around on XDA. You never know though.
Well... I'm here
Haha just kidding, I do wish somebody with some experience knowledge (ie developer of Serendipity etc... ) a man can dream... a man can dream.

[think tank] Page buddy

so if you ever ran jkay mods on your past galaxy devices , you know what the quicklaunch panel is ..
that's pretty much the same thing as page buddy , with some exceptions...
for those who dont know what page buddy is :
enable it via settings under display submenu ...
here is what I noticed about this ...
1_ it only shows up when you remove the spen ( I can probably fix that)
2_ it will only work if you are usign TWlauncher .. ( I can probably fix that)
3_ the shortcuts are non editable but if you remove one of the apps form system the shortcuts gets replaced by other apps ( I can probably fix the default app to ... or maybe not)
here is what it woudl be missing ....
customizable shortcuts ... we would either need an app to customize them or some longpress feature on them (in order to change them) would be neet ..
please as the section says only dev talk in here ...
if you think you can contribute to this project I will get it going and most probably achieve 2/3 of these options pretty quicklt...
the problem is investing time in this without the application to handle it is pretty much a waste of time ..
who 's in ?
I'm not sure what your goal is... Are you trying to customize page buddy, write a replacement for it, or ?
The things that trigger "page buddy" aren't limited to the spen. It can also be triggered by plugging in the headphones or docking the device. (I'm not sure what happens if 2 or more triggers are active at a time.)
The docks shortcuts on "page buddy" are supposed to be the most frequently used apps in a given situation. For example, the spen buddy dock shortcuts would be the apps that you most frequently use when the spen is removed.
Take care

well yea im french
so lemme rephrase
I am trying to have an option to force page buddy thingy to be on or off
then customize/force the apps at like we do for multiwindow
english enough ?
I would like to be able to force the shortcuts on the page buddies, my GNote2 has chosen a set which I dont want and says I cant change them!
Someone managed to do that on the SGSIII (shortcuts when headphone was plugged in). I don't know if he rewrote the handling app or edited the corresponding database, but it was possible to rearrange the apps by editing a sql db of an app named like "context aware...".
On the note i think you have to write to the /data/data/com.samsung.android.providers.context/databases/ContextDB.db "app_usage" database to do what you want to do.
Hopefully you get this working (all points you mentioned) since I was looking for this since day one.
THX in advance.
EDIT: Here is the link to the SGSIII app.
It would be TONS easier to use Tasker for most hardware/connectivity changes. Even easier in conjunction with Folder Organizer.
If you want to do something with the SPen removal (etc.), use GMD SPen Control, or SPen Toolbox.

List of open apps as icons in bottom bar

Hello my fellow tf700 users,
I find it really annoying to have to open the recent apps list to see what i have open. I have gestures set up that allow me to swipe from the bezels to switch bw apps, however, I am curious if anyone knows of a tweak/app that would simply list open apps as icons in the bottom bar to the left of the clock. kind of like the taskbar in windows (never thought id say that), yet I dont want them to be interactive or anything (simply grey icons like the storage/KB dock icons). I find opening the recent apps list to check what is open incedibly redundant as I already have gestures that allow me to quickly swipe to switch apps. This may seem trivial, however, this is my primary device, and workflow is very important to me for school. I am simply trying to limit the number of gestures I have to initiate to get **** done.
Best,
Lucius
To me, it sounds like you want the VivoTab -- indeed, Windows-based.
Sent from a comfortable chair from the outer ring of Purgatory. The red guy asked me to say 'hi'.
Hmm I took don't really see the need. Google put the recent apps there for a reason. It's a single click away and includes swipe to close. How does moving it to the notification bar make it any simpler?
BTW prepare yourself as the 4.2.x update will really annoy you as notifications are now in a split bar up the top wasting screen space.

I dont use the recent apps list to switch apps, i use 1 gesture to do so. the recent apps list forces me to tap it, find the app, then tap the app. doing more than 1 gesture breaks my train of thought when im switching between a pdf im reading and evernote where im taking notes. with my gesture i swipe from the bezel and it switches instantaneously fwd/bckwd between apps. I would like to be able to see what i have open so i dont need to open the recent apps list, as sometimes i forget. It doesnt seem like a big deal but workflow is huge for me.
Ive seen 4.2 and it looks terrible, we are deffinitely on the same page. please avoid includig it in later versions of CROMI unless necessary lol.
That's exactly why I use a floating notepad - take notes without having to switch apps, and paste then into another app when I'm done...

Small apps

Im considering upgrading my Z5C, but I see f.ex small apps are missing, and Im so depended on them in my everyday life. I´ll really miss all of them, but I think the hardest one to let go of would be the Notes. The possibility to wuick open a note and write, and then safe it so it stays in the notification bar. I need to make To dos and reminder notes all the time at work and private life so need to have have easy access plus have them "in my face" for reminding me (no, dont want a widget on the main home screen since I want and need that cleaned from stress, haha, and swipe for home screen arnt in my face enough as when its in the Notification bar with the Small app Notes.).
So, Im woundering if anyone think Small apps will come back? Or know of any good apps to replace my Small app need?

I wish they could come back.
Actually the only replacement that I know is to open two apps on the screen which is possible on the new xperias.
Good luck
yes , I believe that the multiwondows option is way better than the small apps .
