adopable storage issue - General Questions and Answers

hey guys ive just bought a nvidia shield k1 running really nicely and got a 32gb sd card as adoptable storage, but i have filled my sd card up with games and ive only used 4 gb of internal storage but i cant install any more games because it says the storage is full, is there a way i can use the internal storage as there is plenty of space there, it seems a little stupid to have all that space and not e able to use it.

Did you try to go to Settings -> Apps -> <your_game> and click on "Move to internal storage"? Some games are installed by default on SD card, because it usually has more free space.

Internal Memory wasted?

I don't know what happened but for some reason the music app only detects music from external, and all my music is on internal. Anyone know what to do? Since it doesn't have a way to set a directory....
Edit: Ok...i checked Storage Settings and it says my Total Internal Memory is 1.83GB while my External is 5.22GB when it should be the other way around...anyone know whats wrong?...

Hmm, well I'm using Google Music, so maybe that's why? There should be an option in the CMsettings menu to swap the mount points.

Yeah I tried it but either way the mount points mess up. When "Use internal storage" is checked. SD card: 5.22GB(2.02GB free)[This should be the 8GB internal storage], Internal Storage:1.48GB(195MB free)[I don't even know where this storage came from], and Additional Storage /mnt/emmc: 1.83GB(878MB free)[This should be my 2GB SD card].
Now when I uncheck "Use internal storage", the "Additional Storage /mnt/emmc:" and "SD Card" switch places, leaving the Internal Storage with that Unknown storage space.

The internal storage is split. It is 8GB, but only 5.22 is used for internal SD. the rest is used for OS and apps and such.

Oh ok, but for some reason I can't get it to recognize that the 5.22GB is the internal storage, since it has all my apps and music.
Is there a way in CM7 to put the apps on the internal (5gb drive) and the media on the sd card (my 16gb card)? It seems to be either all or nothing.
If I switch my external to be the sd card, the 5gb drive is pretty much wasted, right?

Is it like that for CM7 nightly's too? Thats odd, since its kind of a major issue.
Perhaps someone can write up something about our storage?
I know, that I'm a bit confused about it. At one point, I was looking at this thread, about changing the mount point
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144553&highlight=emmc
There was also this mod as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093231&highlight=emmc
But there has been the CM "Use Internal Storage" option as well...
What is the best use of our storage, internal and sdcard? Should we use a mod to change mount points?

[Q] moving applications to SD card

I just got my tab 7 plus. All is fine except for the ability to move applications to SD card. App2sd for example does not recognize the SD! Any solution?

i'm just curious. why would you want to move app to sd? there's already 16/32gb available on the internal storage.
Firstly curious. Secondly to reserve ram for system.

moving apps to sd doesn't affect RAM usage.
Thanks. But is their a method to move applications to SD?

I don't think there has ever been a safe way to move apps to external SD.
On HC devices, /data and the internal /sdcard are actually just directories on the same partition - so moving from one to another does nothing.
So whats the point
Id like to know how to move apps to sd as well. If not for extra storage room, and ability to move apps to the sd, whats the point of having a micro sd port in the first place? I like moving apps to free up space on the internal drive, it fills up way too quickly.
For media storage, of course. the internal storage is insufficient for people, including me, who love to save tons of media files in their tablet.
I tried to do the same thing today on the P6210 and had little luck. I think it's habit for me to move apps to the sdcard because of my experience with phones, like my Pre, and then my Epic, which bogged down if I didn't move apps to the card.
My Epic has 485MB of internal storage. That's a lot less than 16GB! K.... I won't worry about moving apps as long as the media and files are on the SD card.

[Q] low internal memory (500mb of 12gb??)

Hey, I just got a 16gb Verizon s3 and rooted, unlocked boot loader, installed liquid smooth v2 jellybean rom, and I installed maybe 20 apps I always run with on my phone and then tried side loading swype and flash player but my phone is saying there's not enough memory and I need to clear some space. The intended phone shows the I've used maybe 500mb of my 12gb internal capacity and I went to try to move the downloaded apps to the sdcard to see if that might help, but I don't even see an option in settings>apps to move the apps to the sdcard. Used to be a toggle switch to move to SD or back to phone if you wanted a widget to stay on internal memory.
Anyway, I've been googling and trying to figure this out and I can't. Before I rooted and flashed I had all of these apps on my internal storage with no low memory warnings. Can anyone explain why the entire 12gb internal memory is not available to me for apps? And how do you move apps to sd on the s3? I saw in rom brower that my real sd is actually called sd ext and the folder called sdcard doesnt seem attached to my physical sdcard at all but maybe part of the rom's memory? I don't want to always have to move apps to sdext if its even possible, I want the 12gb available to me, not only 500mb of it, and the option to move to SD would be nice for some games and apps but I also want to be able to keep certain apps on phone's internal memory.
Thanks for any help with this!!
Is the card actually full? AFAIK GS3 is kind of weird -- the internal memory will be partitioned such that you'll see the "user" partition as /sdcard, and everything gets saved here, including apps and nandroids. In Settings -> Storage, if you click the internal "sd", it should bring up a sorted list of what's using the most space.
Personally, I'm trying to figure out if there's a good way to utilize an external sd card.

I tried uploading screens on op on my phone but when clicking choose file to upload nothing happened. On my phone in settings it says I have 11.54 of 12.05gb internal memory available and 17.35 of 29.71gb sdcard memory available.
I'm on this ROM: liquid-jb-v2.0-rc5 .. its 4.1.2
I have always liked liquids ROMs (and spjesters) but I might give cm10 a try later when I'm around WiFi and redownload all my apps and then try side loading again and see if I get same low memory error
Still not sure what the deal is with liquids rom but I switched to paranoid android jb rom and no problems with internal memory so far. I've used over a gb of memory on apps from market and sideloaded and really like the way the settings are laid out in 2 columns. only real problem with I've noticed is that for some reason Swype won't autospace in the stock jb rom so I switched to using opera for now

[Q] What EXACTLY does it mean to move an app to the SD Card

OK. So I know you can "move" apps to your SD card. Let me get straight to the point. On my Epic 4G Touch, I moved an app that was about 20MB in size and had about 1.2GB of downloaded data. I "moved" the app to the SD card and saw no space change on my Ext-SD card. My apps are installed in the phone, about 2GB. The downloaded data is saved on the USB storage, about 10GB. This is still part of the internal SD card. Meaning, I have about 12GB of actually personal usage. My apps save on a 2GB partition (Not too sure if I should call it a partition) and my other data saves on a 10GB partition aka USB Storage.
I guess I'm asking when an app is moved to the SD card, what is happening? Is it moving an app to my USB storage, or my Ext.SD card? I also ask this because I moved an app that was 1.2GB in size and saw no change in my Ext.SD card space. My USB Storage did change, but it was in MB, there was no GB difference. So now I'm wondering what exactly is happening when moving apps to the SD.
Also, is moving an app to the SD the same as installing an app on the SD or should those be referred to as 2 different things? And also, when referring to the "SD card" that apps are moving to, is the SD Card the USB Storage or the internal one, or is it the Ext.SD card?
I'm asking because I'm going to start using my phone as a console via MHL. LoL!! Sadly my Nexus 7 can't do it.:crying: So I'm going to start downloading all my big games again. I want to move most of those games to my 32GB SD card Class 10. Got it on sale for $25!! :highfive:
I'm sure it being a class 10, things wouldn't falter too much. I know apps' performance hinders when being on an Ext.SD card. My only issue is it doesn't seem like apps are actually being placed on my SD card. I have Apps2SD free from Amazon. Would that do the trick?
I want to have ALL my games. LoL!!
Batman
Spiderman
GTA 3
NOVA 2 and 3
Modern Combat 3
As you can see, that's probably 10GB already. LoL!! And I'm still not done with that list. =.P
EDIT: Oh yea, forgot to say thanks for anyone helping. Just in case I forget to hit the thanks button.

Apps are not being installed on sdcard but on internal storage

So here I am again with another problem... That I couldn't find any solution for it.
My moto g has 8gb ROM and a sdcard of 128gb formated as internal storage.
Great, almost all apps are installed on internal memory and so is the cached data, for example downloaded musics from Spotify or Google play music, well I hadn't noticed it until today I couldn't update any app because I have no space left....
I found no settings on either the apps or on the storage menu that allows me to select the SD card as preferred storage... The migrate data option on the settings menu wants to move 17gb from the SD to the internal storage (lol).
So anyone with an idea from what went wrong?
Thanks.
I have the same problem. The storage is completely full now, but there's still enough space left on the SD card! The phone is now complaining about limit storage, but there should be more than enough left!
No apps are installing to SD? A lot of your apps aren't going to install to SD plus all the system apps will install to internal.
To move all data and cache to sd...you need to use Link2SD with root access.
Or you could have a look at this, works pretty well for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/adoptable-external-storage-time-t3340551
