Several questions: Safely root LG G Stylo Cricket (h634) - Software version h63410g - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
Hopefully this thread continues to grow for the LG G stylo Cricket version (h634). I'd like some help and would really appreciate it. I currently have the latest updated LG G Stylo Cricket version and would like to know a few things:
•*What is the safest and successful root procedure? I've heard too many bricking issues, so I am afraid to just jump into it. My software version is the latest, which is the H63410g version
•*Is there any actual factory restore available? I came across this thread and not sure how accurate or valid it is: http://www.mylgphones.com/cricket-l...are-how-to-unbrick-restore-back-to-stock.html
The main developer on a original site said to please not share freely, but if it works, I really do feel everyone with a bricked device should donate for his hard work and help. Its a paperweight + having to buy another $150+ device vs $10 + supporting passionate developers.
• Why do people insist on using super su instead of just keeping kingroot? Isn't kingroot enough for root?
•*What is the best way to modify the lg g stylo to force the system to automatically use the external sd storage for all media including apps, cache, etc.
Really appreciate an insight here. This low memory storage on the lg g stylo cricket version (8gb) is ridiculous and impossible to work with without worrying about low storage issues/errors
Please advise, thanks guys.

I just rooted my h63410g with kingroot. It says that it's not recomended but hit the proceed anyway and it'll work.
I only did 30mins of research and realized DO NOT USE SUPER SU. IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. just use kingroot for su.
I havnt done any bloatware removal yet but everyone says that the paid version of link2sd is the way to go.
The link you shared with the stock firmware is password protected and none of the comments can confirm it works. Hopefully it does tho!

Boost Mobile Moto G Questions

1) I'm aware of the Verizon version of the Moto G being a ***** to root but what about the Boost Mobile version? Does anyone know if that Towelroot app can root it? I have a Macbook so I'm kinda screwed if it can't.
2) I also read some comment about an app being able to unlock bootloaders somewhere. Can anyone confirm if this works on the Boost Mobile Moto G? It doesn't matter to me personally but it may to anyone who stumbles across this post. Also, what is that app called? I only want to use it as a wifi only device, which leads me to my next question.
3) CAN it be used as a wifi only device? I know with the Verizon one it "requires" activation but you can easily bypass it. Does that same method to bypass it work with the Boost Mobile version?
4) Say I do root the Boost Mobile Moto G. If I uninstalled Activation.apk (or whatever it is on the Moto G. It was that on my currently deceased Galaxy Victory 4G LTE), would that make me have to only bypass activation that first time (barring it doesn't "have to" be activated)? If I ever did want to activate it I'd just flash the stock rom, which leads to another question.
5) Does it have to be unlocked to install a custom recovery? If that app doesn't unlock it I'm kinda screwed there too again for just me having a Macbook. Well not immediately screwed but in the future. Kitkat is fine for now but we all know things aren't good enough when things get better in the future.
6) Currently what is the highest android version the Boost Mobile Moto G can update to? I *think* 4.4.2 but I don't know. Is it stable enough for daily use like wifi working fine and things like that? Also, I saw somewhere the Boost Mobile Moto G is getting Android L can anyone confirm that?
7) The least important question but does anyone know if Perk TV runs smoothly on it? Perk TV has these issues about only running smoothly on some Android devices and roms. It ran perfect on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 on 4.1.2 but it literally can't run 5 minutes on a 4.2.2 rom that I found on it...
*Note* Whoever sees this doesn't have to answer every question, just what you know would be much appreciated. I want to know a lot because I see it on Amazon for only $79.99 and it seems like a steal
I'll keep it TL;DR.
1. Yes. Boost Mobile one can be root and bootloader can be unlockable, etc. Search Moto G forums how to do it...
2. ^ Go here https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
3. YES. Don't need to be on service.
4. ^ No need to uninstall any apk to use as Wi-Fi only.
5. Yes. Re-read 1,2. Unlocked to install custom recovery, etc.
6. Idk.... No need?
7. Idk.... No need?
8. 4.4.2 for Slow Boost Mobile Update (JK). Android 4.4.4 for Boost Mobile flashed to Verizon (Optional, You can flash service to Page Plus, too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681166). Android 4.4.4 for the Verizon Moto G version.
9. Idk... Don't use that.
Post should be in 'Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting'. I Owned the Boost Mobile Moto G, flashed to Verizon Android 4.4.4, using Page Plus for service (It's cheap plans for people like me, whom don't talk much). Kthnxbi.
Thanks but there's still some stuff

1) Thanks for confirming it can be rooted but I'm still wondering about if it can with Towelroot. I will search around on the forums about it but from what I've seen in the past most android things like rooting and custom recovery can only be done on Windows, not Macbook.
2) Thanks for the link. Motorolla actually helping you unlock your device is great. I guess no need to try that app.
3 and 4) Thank God it can be wifi only from default. That alone makes it worth the $10 more it costs on Amazon for the Verizon one and root is great too.
5) I thought it had to be unlocked for custom recovery but I've never had a sim card phone so I wasn't exactly sure.
6 and 7) I sound so stupid. I forgot Odin and Odin 3 is only for Samsung...
8) Well is there a big difference between 4.4.2 and 4.4.4? I've never flashed a device to a different carrier but I could try here if/when I get the Boost Mobile Moto G.
9) Many don't so I don't an answer for that question from anyone.

I can confirm towelroot dose not work on this boost Mobile device. Tried it, and it just reboots and do sent root it. Just a tip. If you are going yo buy this phone get s otg drive from eBay. Most are like $20. There is no SD card support. 4.4.2 is the highest bit email Ed boost when we are going to get 4.4.4. I'll update you on that later but other than that, the user above answer Ed your questions. I'm a moto g user do yeah he's right.

Damn then I really don't know how I'm going to root it... Do you know if framaroot works on it? I looked at a rooting guide for it and it says it's for Windows so if no app can root it then I don't know what I'm going to do regarding that. I guess I'll do a lot of Googling. I am guessing there's a program to flash custom recovery for Motorolla phones like Odin for Samsung. I've never had a Motorolla phone so I really don't know much about any of this stuff yet. I'll start tomorrow. I need to go back to sleep. I never even heard of an otg drive until your post. I actually saw a 16GB one on Amazon for about $8.50. I'm guessing you can put an sd card into it? And if you can do the files on it show in Root Browser and other similar apps like it does for a built in sd card slot?
I have so much to learn...

Otg USB flash drives dont need SD card slots. Just plug them in and that's all. You need to plug it in to your PC to unlock it first then root it. Otherwise you won't be able to root.

Please someone find a root for lg stylo 5.1 lp (cricket)

Lg stylo H634
I have the Lg stylo h634 through Cricket. After reading another thread I used Kingroot to root my phone. However I decided I wanted to removed the root so I can upgrade to Marshmallow. So I purchased Supersu to get rid of kIngroot. My phone is now stuck in bootloop. At this point I don't care what ROM I have, I just need my phone back. Any suggestions, help or even a "I'm screwed buy a new phone" statement would a least let me move on. I have been at this for about a week now.
Thank you

Bring it to where you got it and play dumb. Don't mention root or anything of the sort. As far as they're concerned you don't know jack about phones. Just tell them it froze and you had to pull the battery to reset it but now it wont turn on.
My Cricket Wireless LG G Stylo is also briked
I rooted my Cricket Wireless LG G Stylo (H634) with Kingroot then I used Super sume to covert to SuperSU instead of Kingroots after I used the Super sume app and updated binaries the phone restarted and and is stuck on the LG logo. Boost and Metro has flash files all over the web TOT and KDZ files we need flash files for the Cricket Wireless LG G Stylo if anyone can post them online thank you in advance.
Me 2 but i still had warrant after i rooted
I bricked my phone with supersu me but i still had warranty after i rooted with king root so i called it in and they gave me a new phone
I rooted my new lg stylo with king root and sticked with kingroot cause i dont want to
Brick my phone again ever since my phone worked perfectly fine if you ever get a new phone just stick with kingroot
Avoid apps that cause phone to Brick
Xposed installer
Super SU me
Dont use these apps unless theres a kdz available for your phone
I am rooted with New version 4.8 KingRoot. Have root checker Pro by joeykrim. No issues. First attempt with super su bricked. But phone was three days old. Duh my phone locked. New phone is rooted for good. Need custom recovery though.

Temp Root on LG G Stylo LS770 M 6.0 ( Boost / Sprint )
Attention if you decide to try this and end up with a BRICK / Expensive paperweight or your device decides to transform and destroys your home town that's on you. You have been warned . So just read all of this instructions (and read the O.P more then once)
I can confirm temp root on the LG G Stylo LS770 M 6.0 ( Boost / Sprint ) . Perm root will work with Android OS 2.1 - 5.1 & TEMP Root for Android OS 6.0 - ?
Downloads
Download King root ( Suggest from their website and not the Play store ) http://www.kingroot.net/
Download BusyBox from the Play store ( I suggest BusyBox from Jrummy ) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&hl=en
Download a Root Cheaker to verify root , I suggest https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en
Instructions
Download all the necessary APP's and Files .
Run KingRoot and just follow the in app instructions ( Normally you will get to around 23% and the app will say failed to root device but it hasn't yet for me )
Run whatever Root checker you decided to download and verify root ( if you didn't obtain root just run KingRoot again )
Run and install BusyBox
PROFIT
Now you are able to use Apps and Mods until you re-boot your phone.
-Permanent root is reversible, open the app and there will be a button to unroot
-Temporary root will be removed after a reboot
Temporary root
These are usually one-step apps that you install on your phone, and they give you root access until the next time your phone is restarted. They are a great way to get your feet wet,and you can do a lot with them -- both good and bad. The ease of use makes temporary rooting pretty popular, and it's a fine choice if your reasons for rooting are to use root-enabled apps from the Market.
That being said, some apps just aren't going to work unless you go all out and permanently root your phone. This depends a lot on which phone you're using, as manufacturers have an endless supply of dirty tricks to keep the hardware you paid for under lock and key. You'll either have to ask users with the same model as you're using, or use trial and error. The good news is that the popular root-enabled apps, and the ones you're most likely to want to use should work without a problem. Titanium Backup, Wireless Tether, Root Explorer and the like should do just fine.
The last thing to keep in mind, is that not all changes will be permanent. For example -- using a utility to "freeze" bloatware (applications from your carrier that you don't want or need) may not keep them frozen and hidden after a reboot. Also some of the newer HTC phones have an evil little bug a feature that reverts any changes you have made to the system, bringing it back to the way it was before you started hacking away at it. In those cases, the only fix is to perma-root your phone.
Permanent root
This is where things get a bit hairy. Some phones, like the Nexus One, don't need to be rooted -- they can be unlocked via the Android SDK and modified at will. Other phones, like the OG Droid, are really easy to root, and will only take a few minutes. Finally, some phones, like the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G force you to jump through flaming hoops and follow often cryptic instructions, laden with warnings about bricking your phone. That's a whole 'nother rant for a different venue, but it does need said so that you know what you may be getting yourself into. You'll need to do your homework, ask any questions you feel are unanswered or are unsure of, and weigh all this into your decision. Everyone who says "It's easy!" (including me) really means they found it easy -- that doesn't necessarily mean you will.
Now that I've sufficiently scared you, it's time to talk about why anyone in their right mind would go through this. Besides the advantages of keeping changes persistent between reboots, and those few Market apps that won't work with a temp-rooted phone, you have what many consider the best part of owning an Android phone -- custom ROMs.
To flash any custom recovery, kernel, or ROM, you're going to need to have permanent root access to your phone. Flashing new firmware is very low level stuff, and you need read and write access to everything. The good news is that usually the rooting is the most difficult part, and a custom recovery gives you access to a tool that can take a snapshot of your system, and save it as a restore point. That's a good thing, because once you start flashing, you're hooked -- and a single command restore is priceless.
Hopefully I've helped a little in your decision making, and remember -- there is always help in the XDA forums. Find the specific area for your model of Android phone, and look for the link at the top to the hacking section. Those guys live for this stuff, and will steer you in the right direction.
LG G Stylo LS770 MM Restore Files
Due to the overwhelming private messages about kingroot and other rooting apps softbricking phones i have posted a fix for the Boost Mobile LG G Stylo LS770 on MM (6.0) . Here are all the files needed to restore a bricked LS770 on MM .
Needed Files:

Somehow after freezing few apps most Google one, rebooted and got code: 1003 system been modified and stuck in boot loop at initial boot, just reboots after LG logo. Tried to factory reset and LG tool, already running 6.0 latest OS. Had root, busy box easy install and rebooted it, stuck. Soft brick?
I'm sorry to hear that , I've personally never had a problem uninstalling apps on the LG G Stylo but i only really uninstall the bloat from my carrier . There is a Safe To Debloat Guide for our phone but I haven't personally tried it out yet .
Sadly we don't have the KDZ file for our phone so you cant just simply re-flash your phone . But hopefully that doesn't mean we cant get your phone back up and running . There are a few different things we can try .
Can you give me all the information about your phone as you can like carrier, model number , software version and so on .

Got into ADB bootloader and after # I get

I can list folder contents in device #ls
as soon as I try to open any folder I get Hello, I am LAF, Nice to meet you. #
You got LAF ..... Ive only ran into her a couple times and i still dont understand if she's mocking us .
But don't partition anything quit yet , we might be able to just flash the system img with a command line . Do you have adb and everything set up ?
I'll be able to help more when i get home from work .
Here's a helpful video from YouTube that might help https://youtu.be/Za9H7TgeZ50
, i will be leaving all the LG files in my cloud just in case you need the original zip
I just went out and got me another one. I tried ADB and it was all LAF constantly.
Will wait till stable root available and possibly unlocked bootloader, 6.0 got it locked pretty complicated.
Ya they did a number on locking this device . How were you able to get a replacement so fast ?
I'm just hoping we can get fastboot working so we don't have these types of problems.

Any way to root boost mobile only to edit hosts file and then un-root to prevent LAF lock-down?
I'll actually test if editing the build prop with temp root will allow the change to stick after a reboot .
Ive been spending all my free time trying to get fastboot running to tinker with temp root to much .
STAY AWAY FROM KING ROOT! I used King Root last night to obtain root on Marshmallow for my LGMS631 running the official T-Mobile update. Root was successful however the system became very unstable to the point which I decided to unroot and uninstall King Root completely. After restarting my phone I was prompted with Secure Boot Error and MODIFIED. If I didn't have access to a stock KDZ my phone would have been a complete paperweight with no other choice but to send it in to LG for repair. My suggestion to all LG G Stylo users that are not with T-Mobile or MetroPCS will be that you avoid King Root at all costs. Without a KDZ and the LG Flash Tool you will nit be able to recover from a soft brick.
No KDZ available for Boost/Sprint
Anyone got a way to edit hosts file?
Do not root 6.0 boost until bootloader has been unlocked.
it will need to be rooted
it will need to be rooted
as stock marshmallow 6.0 uses too much memory upto 886 mb
only 65 mb free
As of right now we haven't been able to pull the system.img

Yes. I did replace the hosts file with using kingroot. I rebooted and was fine. I later bricked it doing something else and sent it to LG for free repair. I haven't rooted since. Isn't there the tot files posted to recover from a brick on Boost?
Now I'm using NetGuard (here on XDA) that uses a VPN instead of root to implement a hosts list. I also have my DPI set to 270 but that can be done via ADB without root. :]

LG Stylo 2 V (VS835) root possible? [MM, Verizon, unlocked, MediaTek SOC]

I'm hoping someone here can help. I have an LG VS835 stylo 2 V (USA model), it's a MediaTek SOC version from Verizon unlocked being used on GSM. Has marshmallow 601, and I'm trying to find a root method.
Can anyone help? Or point me to the correct sub-forum that may support this device? Many thanks.

I've also been looking for a root method but have not found anything yet. I've tried one click root and a couple others with no luck. The are a lot of different variants of the stylo 2 but this one is the only one with the mediatek soc. The are some mediatek software tools available but I have not tried them yet.
Giving this one a bump in hopes something new has surfaced.

I keep searching online but still have not found a root method for the LG Stylo 2V. It looks like there may be other devices with this Mediatek SOC that have been rooted, but Verizon likes to make things difficult. I hope this device becomes more popular so that someone will take the time to work on a way to root it.
I tried kingroot Kingo root and others, none worked. I am monitoring this thread in hopes some one some where figures out a way to root.... Looks like the snapdragon variant of the stylo 2 (775) can be rooted, but not the mediatek variant
Keep us posted if anyone finds anything.

I keep searching online and checking the forums and still have not found a root method, though there are some other mediatek phones, possibly with the same soc that have been rooted and mediatek does have some tools available. So hopefully someone will take an interest in it.
It's not a bad phone and it's cheap. It's not a flagship but it's decent and root could make it better and improve performance.

I agree. My DIL is using on tmobile. Had to "Uninstall" a couple of the stock apps (like messages) because they were "fixed" for Verizon only use. After Uninstalling (which basically reverted them to true stock versions) all has been working fine. No HD voice but LTE works, mms, etc... She is using Adguard for ad blocking which has worked pretty well, though not inside apps, just browsing web. Ad clear says it works inside apps but didn't seem to prevent as many ads? Still got pop-ups and junk while browsing? But Adguard (free version from play store) is ok.
I'd like to get HD voice or VoLTE working on tmobile? Don't know if that's possible (doubt it though).
I seem to remember when I got my note 4 on tmobile that the Verizon version of the note 4 had a locked bootloader? Where the Tmobile version did not have a locked bootloader. So I hope that's not the case here? I guess time will tell.
I guess while we're waiting - we can share tips about the vs835.

The isn't much you can do. In app manager you can try to move some apps to internal storage, but not all apps can be moved and some don't work well if they are on the sd card (clocks, widgets, etc). If this phone gets android 7.0 Nougat (official or rooted & rom'd) then it may get the option to format the sd card as adaptable storage so the phone thinks it's internal storage.
Just wanted to follow up this with some info.
I was able to enable adoptable storage on the LG vs835 Stylo 2 v. Which was fairly simple.
I used a 64gb class 10 uhs1 card, the whole process took about an hour (maybe less). Takes a while for the migrate stage.
Afterwards however the phone registers 73gb of usable storage. So that was excellent. Instructions are everywhere. just Google adoptable storage marshmallow and you'll find web sites, XDA threads, etc...It's literally 6 commands on a CMD prompt and a few steps on the phone.
Also, I have seen a few web pages claiming to offer root for the vs835? I have not tried them, and I was wondering if there has been any progress on rooting the vs835?

Bump... Any word on root or twrp for the LG stylo 2 v (vs835)?

Here is a way I'm about to try it
mobilespecs .net/ phone/root/LG/LG_Stylo_2_V_VS835 .html.
Take out space after mobilespecs and befor html
Everyone should use MTK-SU. It's a temporary root (shell) for the device. I think on the thread there's a link to the version which allows Magisk to work (not the latest version though). It won't allow you to flash anything and you'll have to apply it each restart but it's still root! There's even an app that applies it each bootup! If y'all are still alive and want the link just reply to this thread.

Thinking of rooting my LG Stylo 6

Hi, all! I'm relatively new to this forum, new to rooting phones and have little to no experience in this. I'm sorry for posting this in the LG Stylo 3 forums; I couldn't find a forum unique to the LG Stylo 6 so I thought this might be a good place to start.
So!
I'm using an LG Stylo 6. Model # LM-Q730MM. MetroPCS is my carrier.
I'm not a fan of Google, its invasive approach toward my phone, nor its apps taking up space on my phone. Also, I'm curious about the pros and cons of rooting. I have a few questions and any info would be excellent!
1. What can a rooted phone do exactly?
2. If I root my LG Stylo 6, can that process be reversed?
3. Will rooting my phone get me into trouble with MetroPCS? Will I still be able to make phone calls? Will I still have access to all of the applications I already have installed on my phone?
4. What else should I know before rooting my phone?
I posted a possible root method in another thread.. I'll give the link since I don't want to retype.. feel free to try and share results.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...a-latest-ota-update-payload-bin-dump.4140013/
Always go with official method in order to root any android device. No matter device is LG, vivo, and Samsung. I found a lots of website who guiding the steps to root LG Stylo 6 in 10-15 minutes and having positive feedback.
But before implementing the rooting steps make sure you check this list -
Device bootloader should be unlocked
Charge your device 60-70% ( It's normal recommended to avoid any risk )
If you're following PC method then make sure you have a data cable to connect your LG device else if you're following without PC then not need to do.
These are some important which you should keep in mind.
Here a safe box guide website simple method to root Lg Stylo 6 without PC - https://safeboxguide.com/root-lg-stylo-6/ After reading this article it would be clear how you can root LG Stylo 6 without PC with Magisk + KingoRoot method.
Hope you love it.
* The device bootloader cannot be unlocked because LG has prevented access to the bootloader.
* The safeboxguide article is a replicate of any other article you read and they have done zero research whatsoever and are only attempting to obtain views for ad revenue and clicks on their website.
* Root is currently unachieved on the device and LG devices are notorious for being unnecessarily difficult to unlock, let alone gain even a temporary root shell inside of.
* We are working on this actively and have been since about early January.

yeah, screw all that. I saw that thread and lost interest.
Lol, it's not that hard, I just had to write it up like that for newbies that don't have any experience with python, anyone that has any experience with Linux or python can do it in just a few min. Complete newbies have followed my tutorial and achieved root, very few have done it but that just makes it that much more worth it.
