Root android 6.0 and keep OTA - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Is it possible to root my s6 while I can still get OTA updates? If yes please direct me to the right guide as I am kinda lost. I don't care about Knox and my region is NEE and my baseband is FXXU3DPCT
Thanks

No it's not possible. Either you Flash a Recovery or flash a Kernel with Odin, both will break ota.

Hmm ok to bad I thought this could be achieved without breaking OTA. Which guide should I follow to root?

How do I update my filmware on a rooted Note 10.1?

Hello everyone,
I'm fairly new when it comes to filmware/rooting, and I would like to know how would I update my filmware on a rooted Galaxy note 10.1? I've seen people show apps that let's you do this such as Odin for Android, but I didn't find anything that shows step by step on how would I achieve updating. How would I update without losing my root?
thanks.
I think u mean firmware not filmware
f u have root, then no way to upgrade the note via OTA.
u will need either download the new rom = firmware then flash it via Odin pc and u will lose the root, or flash it via mobile odin and u will keep the root
these are the most easy methods to do it
Kies should update but you will need to reroot .
Providing Samsung have an update for your product .
Kies? WTF! :-/
Spend some money and use mobile Odin Pro.
If you used maybe the easy Framaroot in the past, they'll not work with the newest firmware.

As the OP has 3 posts and is in ignorance of the basics they are usually better to stick with Kies until they actually understand .
Yes, my fault, maybe it's better

I may have 3 posts, but that doesn't mean I'm your typical ignorant tech user.
I'll try out Odin Mobile Pro, thanks everyone for the help.
Good choice
Don't forget to enable EVER ROOT in mobile Odin Pro.
If you have further questions let me know.
Good luck

You mean OTA update?
After unrooting it is not possible to get OTA update bcoz u modified the system. You can download from Internet and use ODIN or any flash tool.this will help u.

If you have twrp and the same version of stock rom which you are currently on now, flash it on top the installed rom and that will remove the root. but before rebooting the phone twrp should ask swipe to modify the rom or not, you should choose dont modify, in that way you can take the update. hope this will help.

Magisk Pixel OTA update - "Couldn't update - Installation problem"

Hey all,
So I'm running root Magisk and you guys are all probably aware of this issue, I just can't find the solution online at the moment, most articles lead to just awareness of the issue but no solution.
Anyone know how I can start doing OTA updates on my Pixel with Magisk to get around the "Couldn't update -- Installation problem". Obviously it must be working if there are instructions for doing so.
Any help to fix this would be great.

Yikes, what a miss. So basically if I altered any of the system directory like reverting a user app to a system app I'm screwed?
edit: If that's the case, can I revert back to the magisk boot partition while not connected to adb, and just do a reflash of magisk and my phone will reboot properly?
Exactly

No way around that?
Did you manage to figure this out?
If I just sideload the OTA would that work (I'd assume it would get rid of Magisk, but would it causes problems or bootloops etc)?

having anything other than pure stock will cause OTAs to fail. u can manually flash update images or sideload otas through ADB

If I flash stock rom over stock rom in Odin, do I need to enable/disable oem unlock?

Or can I just flash the newest stock firmware in Odin without anything else required?

Yes you can. Nothing is required to flash firmware. All you need is Odin, firmware and phone in download mode. Bearing in mind that you can't down grade firmware ( bootloader version).
