Solution to the "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" error? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

T-Mobile S6 running XtreStoLitr 3.3.1. I'm currently dealing with the aforementioned error whenever I open the stock dialer. I've cleared the app data and cache for both Contacts and the Dialer, which alleviates the issue briefly. I initially thought it had something to do with root, so I disabled Greenify, PowerNap, Naptime, and Amplify to no avail. I went into safe mode and cleared the app/data cache--when I first got the issue, simply going into safe mode and clearing the data fixed the issue until the day before, where it popped up again--and that served to be a momentary solution.
I've wiped data, restored the firmware, downgraded to 3.3, deleted my contacts from my phone--and from my Google account apparently, but that's a different story--but nothing seems to have addressed this issue. I'm currently doing another full wipe/restore. The last time I went through this process, I redownloaded all of my apps manually rather than using SmartSwitch, and it didn't help much long term.
And since I figure that this issue will likely happen again once I restore my data, is there a way to determine what the cause is? I assume that it's one of my apps at this point that's constantly causing the issue.

gmail wont send

I hit the button and nothing.... just stays in the email. tried clearing the cache and data. uninstalled gmail and reinstalled.... and loaded a new rom version (senseless extreme... but this is something that suddenly started..... was working fine for a few weeks)
Any ideas?? sending from the computer works fine, as well as saving the draft on the phone, and receiving, and all that fun stuff.
have you tried removing the account and re-adding it?
I remember somewhere else someone suggested what you have already cleared and account data.
It worked once for me with Desire HD but I suspect its all the when it comes to software
i would assume that loading the new rom and in turn signing into my account again would be about the same thing... going to try a clean load today and see if i can narrow it down
Has anyone figured this out yet? I have been having the same problem for months. The only way I have found to fix it is to reload the ROM (or load a new one).
I have cleared data, cache etc. I have disable and re-enabled syncing. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Gmail app from the market and nothing. I rely on Gmail for work so I really need this app to work. I hate having to flash my phone each time this crops up...
Have you cleared defaults? That's what got mine going again after titanium backup didn't restore everything correctly.
Just curious...? After you flash these ROMs, are you using Titanium Backup to restore any system or account data? This I know can cause multiple issues and GMail is very dependent on Accounts.
The "I can't send anything in GMail, but I can still receive messages." issue happened to me twice with my Sensation and I was able to resolve it both times by just clearing data from the application in: Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > GMail. I know you mentioned doing this and it not helping, but I just wanted to be clear on my experience with such a problem.

[Q] RH-01 Error and "waiting for location" on every install

So, for the past month or so, every time I switch up ROMs I have the same or similar errors occur: First, whether on 4G or WiFi I get an RH-01 error on the Play Store which won't clear until I've wiped cache and data for Play Store and Services Framework multiple times. Also have tried loading recovery and wiping cache and dalvik and fixing permissions. Also tried installing 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 Gapps. Even then it sometimes won't work at all, and I'll end up flashing something like CM10 which I've had more luck getting to work (after a few attempts). Secondly, Google Maps navigation will get stuck on the "waiting for location" message and will never pop up my directions. I know I am getting satellite lock because I have gotten very fast and clear signal using the GPSfix app and sometimes other apps that use location (weather, twitter, Facebook) don't seem to have trouble. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling maps, more wiping of cache and dalvik and fix permissions, toggling GPS on and off, haven't gotten it fixed yet. As far as I can tell, these issues started when I installed ROMs based on the TW 4.1.1 leaks and have carried over to either more recent leak ROMs or AOKP/CM10 ROMs. And yes I clean install to the extent possible each time, both these issues appear every time. Is there something corrupted somewhere that I can overwrite or wipe perhaps? Or could my hardware have developed a quirky fault? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I'm in the same boat, I've search through multiple forums with no luck, the only time Google play connects instantly is right after I Odin back to stock ROM, but once I install a more current ROM whether TW/AOKP/AOSP, I get the RH-01 error. This is so frustrating.
Its just not meant to be it seems. Sell your phone and get a iphone! j/k
Same, but it happened to me suddenly after few weeks of using a custom ROM. I was to install an update and the play app disappeared and couldn't have been relaunched. Erasing cache caused that i have got the messahe [RH-01] and also localization services are gone. Fixing permissions, wiping cache + dalvik... the same.
I'm having the exact same issues. This freaking blows. Odin and restoring a Nandroid are only things that work for me.

GCM ID errors

Hello all...
Has anyone else had GCM (Google cloud messaging) ID errors with the M8?
I recently bought my son an HTC Desire 526 and being that he's 11, it was empirical that I have some kind of parental control/monitoring software installed. So, I went with MMGuardian which appears to be an awesome app except that in my case, it keeps having these GCM ID errors.
I've been in contact with their tech support and they can't nail it down. They're leaning towards it being a phone model compatibility issue because they say that they haven't seen this problem before. Keep in mind that I have a few other client apps that use GCM and they have no issues. Also, my wife has a Galaxy S5 and the app works fine for her.
Now, my phone is rooted (s-off) so I've been able to try just about everything.
Cleared data on MMGardian
Cleared data on Google Play
Cleared data on Play Services
Uninstalled/reinstalled MMGuardian
Cleared cache partition in recovery
Cleared dalvik cache in recovery
My last experiment after restoring the phone was safe mode. With Titanium Backup, I'm able to change MMGuardian to a system app so it stays functional in safe mode. Still no dice. Same error.
Below is a screenshot. If anyone has had this issue or heard of it, please reply.
Thank you.

Contacts Storage causes "android.process.acore has stopped"-error

Hello everybody,
it's been about two days since i first encountered the problem of a message popping up, saying "The process 'android.process.acore' has been stopped" (might be slightly vague translation, sorry).
By now, i've traced the error back to the Contact Storage.
I've tried all of the following:
- wipe dalvik-cache
- turn off sync with Google Contacts
- alls combinations of
--> disable Contacts
--> disable Contacts-Storage
-->clear Contacts data
-->clear Contacts-Storage data
I've also checked all Contacts for non-ASCII-Characters but could not find any anormalities (besides it's been a while since i last changed/added/deleted any contact), but as the error occurs with sync switched off and cleared data, i don't think any part of my contacts data is causing the Problem...
Yet, the problem remains unchanged: whenever Contacts-Storage is accessed by any means, the error occurs.
I haven't got any clue what else could help, but maybe anyone of you does...
btw: im using a LG Nexus 5 running a rooted Android 5.0.1
And due to some configurations that cannot be properly saved, neither a factory reset nor a software upgrade are feasible solutions for me
desperate regards,
EDIT:
the error does not occur in safe mode, and syncing works fine there as well, so i guess, the only option ist to successively uninstall all downloaded Apps until i find the one causing the Problem...

Updates stuck at 100%, Gmail does not notify, and other issues.

I am desperate, I can't find the issue here. I have a S10 (Xfinity unlocked on Verizon) , I can't seem to update apps, they get stuck at 100% or 99%, AND some things like Gmail and Instagram do not seem to notify that I am getting messages.
Here's the kicker, I factory reset the phone some 5 times now, and still have the issue. The Reset fixes it for a few days (if even a day) and then the issue starts up again!
the phone was just upgraded to 10, but it was happening on 9 also!
no clue what the problem is ! it kills me! Please anyone have any idea? I even had an authorized Samsung dealer do a "software refresh" and then wiped out the phone again, and I'm still having the same issue..
HELP! please.
thank you

Boot into safe mode, it will only load your system apps and not your user apps. Then try to update your apps, if it works then you know the issue is being cause one of your user apps. Then you just need to identify which user app is the offending app.
It also might be caused by a conflict between various settings or maybe you have some things disabled or turned off that are causing this.

That kinda works.. but again, as said, I have reloaded the phone over and over, and it works fine, until a few days later and stars over.. And updating is not the only problem, Geolocating is slow, sluggish or not working sometimes, Push updates of emails are slower or not happening. just weird things..
I am not sure what it could be! its like the phone is the problem!

Ok, everything I posted went completely over your head, I'll try again.
If it is working like it is supposed to while in safe mode(which is only loaded with system apps and system settings and not any of your user apps or data) that tells you that the issue is caused by some user app that you have installed or something in your user settings. In other other words, it is very likely something that you, as the user, have installed or setup/selected, it is probably not the device. It keeps happening after resetting because you are not changing what you are doing that it is causing it, it is something that you keep returning to after resetting the device. You just need to figure out which user app is causing the issue or whatever settings are causing the issue.
The way to do that will be trial and error. Uninstall one of the apps that you have installed, then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that wasn't the app causing the issue, reinstall that app then choose another user app to uninstall and then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that is t the app, reinstall that app, and so on and so on, etc... Get the picture? When you uninstall an app and the issue stops, the last app uninstalled is probably the app causing the issue.
I suggest resetting the device again. Then, only install one of your usual apps but don't install any others and don't change any settings, use the device a while, if the issue does not occur, install another one of your usual apps but don't install any others, basically, install one app at a time until the issue occurs, when it does, the last app installed is probably the offending app.
Or, if you don't find it that way and you get all of your usual apps installed without triggering the issue during the trial and error process, then you need to go through settings by trial and error. Changing one setting at a time and using the device a while to see if the issue occurs, if it does, it probably has something to do with the last setting that you changed before the issue occured.
Slowly changing one thing at a time over an extended amount with time between each change, will allow you to isolate exactly which app or setting is causing the issue.
Or maybe you need to flash your stock firmware via PC tools to start over with a clean installation.
