U.S. S7 [Snapdragon] locked to my previous SIM - how to unlock it for a new SIM? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello community,
I´ve searched everywhere to solve this issue without success - I hope you´ll be able to provide a solution.
I´ve bought an unlocked S7 with Qualcomm/Snapdragon in the U.S. (no carrier contract) - I´ve used the phone for about 2 months with a U.S. local SIM card and everything worked fine.
Back at my homecountry I wanted to insert a new SIM from a local german provider but the phone refused to accept it.
Error message: Invalid SIM (please insert the UICC which came with the device) mhhhh, the device didn´t came with any UICC?!?! Looks like a simlock...
In several articles about the S7 I´ve read following e.g. "S7 will lock to a carrier once a SIM card is inserted" .... how can it be? I mean is it true?
So I wanted to root the device but I´ve noticed really quick that the Qualcomm/Snapdragon version has a locked bootloader, means root is not possible at the moment
Simple question
- Is there aaaany way to open/unlock the device to a new SIM carrier?
I just want to use my phone :crying:
Thanks in advance for your support.
Best regards

That option does only unlock the screen remotely, nothing else, nothing to do with sim card

US phone will not work in the EU, as far as I know. Even if the radios are capable, there are blocks in place via Samsung, FCC anb EU that won't let it happen. Could be wrong, but yeah.

Maybe you can try to activate developers options by pressing on build number in software info 5 times. Under developments options there is an option for OEM unlock, try that.

Hello raj_p, this option is already activated. Didn´t work.
I guess I will try to use the service of unlockbase and give it a try...

Already told you that it's not happening. Galaxy phones are region locked.

Hello MattBooth,
yes you did. I just received feedback from Samsung Germany and you are right. There is really a regional lock between US & EU versions.
According support team here in Germany I have to contact the region where the phone was sold.
I will contact the US Samsung support and chek if it is possible to unlock it. I will keep you in the loop.
By the way - I would still prefer a root solution...hope it will not take too long until someone will find a way to root a Snapdragon.
Other solutions are still welcome...go on with the tips :good:

How about flashing a different CSC firmware via Odin?? No need for root to do that.
But....i have no clue if it will even work??

Hello Major7070,
thanks for this very valid comment - I´ve never heard that a CSC can be flashed with a locked bootloader but if it is possible it could solve my issue...maybe at least :fingers-crossed:
@all, does anyone know if a CSC will help me in this case?
This is the current situation:
- Samsung Germany replied to my request following - yes, there is a regional lock in this phone, please contact the support of the origin country.
- Samsung USA replied following - there is nothing like a OEM regional lock in this phone - there is just a carrier lock by Boost Mobile, please get in contact with Boost Mobile
Boost mobile replied - we will help you with the unlock but you have to fulfill 3 requieremts:
1st - you need to be a boost mobile customer or former customer
2nd - the device should not be reported as stolen :good:
3rd - the device need to be at least 12 months old
I failed on requirement no. 1 & 3 - furthermore Samsun GER and USA gave contratict answers.
I didn´t even purchased the phone with a Boost contract - just used a Boost Mobile SIM during the three months.
The issue can not be caused by a carrier Simlock because if it would be created by it the phone would ask for the Network unlock code of each invalid SIM which is inserted to the device BUT it does not.
=> if this would be the case e.g. Unlockbase could help me with the issue but they can´t
OMG...I´m going crazy.
Thank you.
Best regards

I'm interested to hear if you found a solution to this? I have a U.S. S7 and I want to take it to Germany here in a month. I've been trying to get a Sim unlock code here last night but haven't had a success through att. Have you tried purchasing a code from a third party seller?

After all this answers it's seems that your S7 is Sim locked. YOU should try an online service for sim unlock your device. There are several app on play store, about 20 usd for that and a code is usualy provided in hours. At least for europe. All the apps provide full refound if the code is not found. Search for imei unlocker or unlockscope in play store
Good luck!

Hello calinormy,
this were my first thoughts as well - but as I said, the phine is not asking for the "network unlock code".
I was in contact with several unlock providers and they said, that they can´t do anything for me as long as the phone is not requesting this code.
@all, I mean I´m willing to pay for such an unlock code...at least it is a try - but is there any way to insert the code via hotkeys if the phone does not request it?
Thanks.
Bye

Have you tried to factory reset the phone with the original sim inserted and then once complete insert the local EU sim? You might have to get a T-mobile USA sim to have the phone request a carrier unlock, not sure why that would matter but it's worth a shot.

SOLVED
Hello all,
just want to inform you guys that the issue with the "Invalid SIM" is solved now - BUT there is a new issue.
FYI
I had to downgrade my device with the stock ROM (see software Version)
Baseband was G930PVPU2APE1 => and after downgrade G930PVPU2APC5
The unlock was done by Samsung unlock remote client from 123unlock.nl
Log:

22:53:02 - Unlocking SEC.. [OK]
22:53:04 - MSL/SPC: 359276
22:53:04 - UICC Unlock Done..
I have a new issue now:
The device does not connect to a network operator by itself and furthermore the option "Network operator" is not available in the settings (see attached pictures)
Any idea how to solve this problem or should I open a new topic?
Thanks.

What does it show your imei as?
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA-Developers mobile app

My guess is that you will have to upgrade to the latest ROM you already had installed. It might be that the IMEI cannot be read since that was upgraded with the ROM (and a downgrade of that partition will never happen)

Did you try inserting "a SIM card not attached to your current provider (e.g if you have T-mob use an ATT SIM CARD) and turn on your phone?" (credit sanfranx415 post) edit: maybe try a different gsm carrier in the same country you reside.
From what I have read and understand different versions of busybox will work or are compatible for different things (maybe somebody will tell me if that is not accurate).
Here is a video that might help.
Good luck!
Try contacting t mobile and tell them your going overseas for a few months and want to take your phone with you and is there a way to unlock it so it can be used in another country.

When you insert the sim card and power up the phone, as you unlock it it should give you a network lock screen that only lets you use the phone after inputting the unlock code.

[Q] Sim unlock - network unlock

Hi All,
Is the network unlock by flashing modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2022296) same as sim unlock?
If not how one can unlock the phone having root and bootloader unlocked but not calling my carrier and asking for the code (I've still wait another 4 months to get code from them)? The phone is locked to French SFR.
At the time I've had Neus One, if my memory serves me right, at the time of rooting the phone it was sim unlocked as well.
Thanks in advance for any advise.
p.s. should this thread be placed in different sub-forum, please move it. Thanks.
There are 2 types of unlock:
1) Network unlock = Will allowed your phone the usage of other carriers services, then your own SFR (can use other networks sim cards)
2) Bootloader unlock = Will enable your phone of installing custom or other carriers ROM's
You can root your phone without any type of unlock = Root will enable your phone to install the recovery apps..& others apps (not ROM's)

How can I do network unlock without calling carrier (SFR) and without paying for the code? Can it be done via flashing modem or any other trick?
So far I'm on the binaries provided by SFR, original ICS and then upgraded through OTA to JB.

Accordingly to the Forum Rules I can't advertise any product or services. Google on line & there are plenty unlock services.
Which version of the phone do you have? The Verizon branded versions **are** SIM unlocked, though they don't work on ATT/TMobile in the US. Furthermore, they don't work with a foreign SIM in the US.
However, if you take the phone abroad and pop a foreign SIM in it, it will work. How do I know this? I'm sitting in Australia on Optus/Australia as we speak...
So, if you have the VZW version, no code is needed.

The law in France changed a few month ago, you just need to wait 3 month and sfr must give you the unlock code. Not 6 month anymore.

It is wery common trouble for many of us
You are just using the phone that is sim locked by the operator
Good news is that there is an easy fix for your problem- you have to unlock it
The sim unlocking procedure is been performed by most of the mobile service centers,
You may use google to search for sites that can remotely unlock your device

There are several tipes of 'locks' we users are forced to fight with:
- locked bootloader- not allowing us to flash any custom system to our phone
, this is suposed to save inexpearienced or to quick a user from bricking their devices...
- sim lock- by this procedure your mobile provider wants to make sure you will not be using the phone-
THEY gave you on contract, with another provider's sim card...
Sim lock is a very common policy among mobile carriers but you can remove it quite easily
, without any side effects

Network locked sim card inserted

My sister presented me this galaxy s6 phone from malaysia. I am from India when i inserted india sim card. I got the message network locked sim card inserted. I came to know from the internet all samsung phones are network locked, for that I have to make incomming or outgoing call for 5 mins. I inserted malaysia sim and (from india) made 3mins of call to malaysia and 2+ mins of call to my mobile in india. Inspite of this my mobile is not unlocked it is still locked. Please help me.
If i flash stock firmware from india will my s6 be automatically unlocked ??, without any side effects.
In internet I saw there are many sites which says they can provide unlock code but their charge is very high almost 50 USD. I have already spent almost 100RM for roaming calls. Please help in unlocking my phone.
Inserting the malaysia sim card will not work as the call has to be made through the network of the region the phone was bought. Using the malaysian sim in india is not enough as the call is still going through the indian phone network.
I already made a 3 mins call to Malaysia . Will it unlock if I ask to someone from Malaysia to make another 2 mins of call to me.
Only way to unlock a network locked S6 is to get the unlock code from your network or buy it online from reputable unlockers. Flashing ROMs will no remove the lock.
Suggest some reputable unlockers

The problem you may have here is unlocking services unlock the phone from a specific carrier. The region lock is not the same as the carrier lock that these companies provide a service for. A quick look on google brings up no results for region unlocking. At the minute your only course of action is take the phone to a samsung repair centre and hope they will remove the region lock for you.
I took my phone to local mobile service center and he unlocked my phone (dont know how he did) and my phone is now rooted. Now my question is, is the unclock permanent and can i flash stock firmware safely without getting locked again.
Please confirm

Sim Unlock is needed once in a lifetime and it`s irreversible. Anyway I don't understand why was needed to root your phone for sim unlock. Normally you can reset, flash anything now and your phone will be sim unlocked.
What do you mean by reset ? we cannot remove the lock by flashing a new ROM.
why dose it come up restart phone when i swich sim cards on my unlocked galaxy s6 eage and dose this lose all othe data and save picuters and contects
Please i do also have S6 brought from USA to Ghana and when i tried put on a sim, it said Network locked sim. please what should i do?

Unlocking a Japanese Xperia XZ in Australia

I just recently had to move back to Australia after a few years in Japan.
Before I left I spoke to AU (my Japanese provider) about unlocking my Xperia XZ (sov34). They advised me to use their online form, which I did. A follow up call to their help line confirmed the unlock worked.
It didn't.
Back in Australia, when I put an Australian sim card in it tells me "SIM locked by operator - no service" in the notifications bar.
Doing *#*#7378423#*#* reveals this:
The entries read
[] Network 0
[x] Network subset 10
[] Service provider 0
[] Corporate 0
[] SIM 0
Also, putting in an Aussie sim doesn't give me an option at all to enter an unlock code.
Is there anything I can do? I am willing to pay for an unlock code through a trustworthy site, as long as it will actually work. I don't want to pay and find out the phone is impossible to unlock.
So update, I decided to purchase an Unlock code from a site.
Still to recieve it, but I did notice something important.
When I put a new, no AUKddi sim card in the phone, I am given no option to input a code anywhere.
I understand that this is done by some phone companies specifically to make unlocking difficult. I am also of the understanding that I can flash the unlock screen in in some way. Is anyone willing to spare some time to show me how/provide a guide to do so?
sir
1. if your device is SIMLOCKED with Japanese network provider then ofcourse no other sim will work (even in japan). however lets assume that the device is International sim unlocked.
2. in this case if you are using SO3H version of xperia then you must flash AU firmware and try the Sim (suggestion)
3. when you say buying unlock code online... what do u mean? do u mean unlock sim code? or do u mean UNLOCK BOOTLOADER CODE ?
4. please don't unlock your device! unless you first downgrade to Android 6 and EXTRACT DRM KEYS (TA.img) ( its a SAGA if you decide to go that path i will guide you more sir)
5. you can change firmware from japan to AU only by flashtool. ( www.flashtool.net) , sony Xperia Companion may recognise your device as Japan market and flash the same firmware again!
6. please update what is your device mode, and Android version and BUILD NUMBER (sony stockrom)

1. Things are much clear now, you were trying to sim UNLOCK the device. if you have succeeded and still cant register AU sim
2. then flashing different market firmware may solve this issue.
3. you should not UNLOCK the BOOTLOADER if you are not interested in rooting the device and
3b. even when you decide that you want to unlock the bootloader then you must first downgrade to android 6 and EXTRACT the TA-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.img file known as DRMKEY FILE and then upgrade back to Android 8 and then unlock.
4 sorry, DEVICE modeL . F8331 or F8332 (dual / Single)
Guys, is it hard to check other forum topics of japanese phones?
It's simple - just write with Flashtool a Docomo firmware for this model (all models there have a specific country firmwares list, usually only 3 for Japan - KDDI, Docomo and somethimes Softbank). Usually Docomo immediately asks for code when inserting a foreign sim, it's some KDDI quirk that they removed or broken that function in their firmware with unlocking.
All of this is not related to bootloader - all Sony phones in Japan specifically NEVER ever unlocked on bootloader level, they completely closed their market from "open source" or there's not such strict laws like in EU. So, it's useless to even discuss such with japanese phones.
Update:
I was able succesfully flashing it with Central European firmware (less bloatware than Au) and with foreign SIM it immediately asks for Unlock Code. Only NFC not working, but it's old problem with japanese Xperias (i was able to solve it on Xperia Tablet and only by EU Wifi firmwares, no such for phones and no one tries to extract NFC from there). The problem with japanese firmwares - in Flashtool only Android 6 available, it's not flashing on Oreo phone, showing partition.sin error, so it means also that downgrade impossible. If you want working NFC you need to find japanese Android 8 firmware somewhere (like 41.3.C.1.147 from Au).
