Hi, friends! I use all my devices as WiFi only. (0$ a month, hangouts is a godsend.) But on MM, Doze disables WiFi after 10-15min or so, I forget the exact time. There's gotta be a way to whitelist it. Any ideas? I don't want to downgrade back to LP. I have read that Android N doesn't disable WiFi during Doze, however. So at least that's something to look forward to.
Also, I've searched up this issue for well over a month now. Many people would like a fix of sorts. You'd be helping out a lot of people if possible.

Hi
I've looked some time now for an app like this, no luck.
So what I'm looking for is an app that:
* Turns wifi OFF when the phone has been idle/locked for 0-x minutes.
* On a schedule, turns the wifi ON for x minutes thereby letting it sync apps like email, then turning the wifi back OFF again.
I'm thinking this could have several uses, one beeing having the wifi "constantly turned on" without concerning yourself with the battery drain. It would let apps/functions like email, calendar and instant messengers sync on interval.
I know there are several apps that handle wifi scheduling in different ways but i've found none that can do the above...
Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry I don't know how to actually use it, but this application should be relevant for what you are looking for.
if your rom support crontab, its possible to write a script to implement it.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Thanks. I downloaded trial and tried it. I couldn't figure out how to "program" the program to get it to work as described in my initial post.
Though that might be a Q for the Tasker "forum".
I'm a little surprised that there is no simple app for this function already out there. Seems to me it could save a lot of battery for some people.
Go to Setings - Wi-Fi setings - press menu-additional...(set up)......ready to go....!

Tasker can very easily schedule a wifi toggle (every x minutes or hours). It would be slightly more complicated to complete your second desired function, but with a little help from their forums, I'm sure it would be possible.
My wifi keeps turning on by itself.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am on the stock rooted ROM. I wonder if I installed something that does this. It's driving me crazy!!!
Arrrgghh.

You rang? lol.
Yes, I did at first when on stock. There's a setting, it is escaping me exactly where it is - but I believe it's in the 'advanced' wifi settings. Let me see if I can find the thread real quick.
This is a "feature" - basically the concept is, the phone tells you when you are near AP's to save $$$ on your cell data plan. Stupid.
Edit - there's also battery saving apps that could be doing this... just FYI, reading other forums they seem to indicate that rogue apps could be doing this - one user in particular mentioned some app called Snapdragon BatteryGuru...

I wonder if "Keep wifi on during sleep" was causing the issue.
Also, I do have that snapdragon app...but it hasn't gone through the 3 days of "learning" to actually be functional. If it doesn't stop happening from changing the setting on Keep wifi on during sleep to NEVER...then I for sure will uninstall the snapdragon app and see if that helps. The snapdragon app seems to only do what Greenify is already doing anyway. Hibernate apps.
Thanks for replying man! You are a great dev.

I'm just learning, but getting better at it for sure .
As for the issue at hand, I don't think that keep wifi on setting is the one I am thinking of...
Unfortunately I don't have a device to look at right now to tell you the exact setting, and I am having trouble finding the thread where this was discussed (I thought there was one at least)...
However, did you check the settings on that Snapdragon app? Make sure there's nothing configured there to enable wifi. Also, I'm not real familiar with all these battery saving apps - I would use caution, they might be like antivirus software on Windows - don't run more than one at a time, or else they will just butt heads.
Hi, all.
This is my first time posting. I have searched the web and through this forum for an answer to my question but no dice. I hope someone here can help.
(By the way, I'm currently using the Oxygen ICS rom. I used to be on Oxygen Gingerbread, and I briefly tried the latest Kitkat build, but couldn't use as a daily driver).
Over the past months, I've transitioned off of my monthly cell plan in favour of a prepaid data add on + VoIP app (Fongo) for calls/texts. I WFH so my cell is on WiFi 90% of the day.
The issue I'm facing is that when I use the WiFi lock option in the app itself, my battery life dips down considerably. But when I don't use this option, I often miss incoming calls (the WiFi appears to go to sleep after awhile, even though I have WiFi set to be always on even when the device is sleeping).
As an alternative, I've tried many apps in the Play Store, such as Wifi Keep alive (Roys and Shantz), and Wifi Fixer.
I've tried them all individually and in combination with each other. They do make the device more efficient at receiving incoming calls while preserving more battery life than the above WiFi lock, but it's still not 100% perfect.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to improve WiFi connectivity when my phone is in sleep mode without sacrificing a lot of battery? (In the form of either an app, system setting, or alternative ROM to what I'm using.) I realize there has to be some impact on battery if WiFi is on, but given that Fongo drains the battery whereas third party apps are more forgiving on it, I'm wondering if there's a better solution/configuration out there.
I experience this issue in Gingerbread and ICS. I don't experience it in Kitkat, but the battery barely lasts for 6-8 hours.
I hope I'm explaining this clearly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA.
An update:
I found the Wake Lock app (developer "darken") in the app store, and that seems to have solved my issue. I set it to the "Partial Wakelock" setting and now all incoming calls come in correctly on WiFi and my battery doesn't drain as quickly as it did with other apps or the Fongo setting.
Posting this in case it helps someone else in this situation.
I already shared this some time ago on the Nexus 6P Battery life thread but it didn't get much attention and since a user on Reddit noticed my tip and made a thread about it that got lots of attention, I decided to create a thread here so everyone is able to get to know this ridiculous setting.
I was struggling trying to find why my Wi-Fi graph would show as always on even if it wasn't. I tried disabling Wi-Fi location, disabling Wi-Fi itself, disabling ipv6, choosing 2.4 GHz only. Nothing helped.
I was looking for an unrelated thing in Viber settings and found a setting called 'Wi-Fi - sleep policy'. It's under General Viber settings. For some reason, Viber devs decided to make the default setting 'Always on' and that actually keeps your Wi-Fi on (at some point at least) even if you turn if off.
So, just change that to 'Use device's settings' and you're good to go. Hope it helps.
Note: This affects all Android phones.
Is there any way to get wifi calling on our AT&T G4's without upgrading to MM? I'd prefer to stay on LP so I can root and also so I can use my bluetooth heart rate monitor and other sensors. 6.0 has bugs that make bluetooth Low energy sensors not work correctly. There is a fix in 6.0.1 but my understanding is the G4 is still on 6.0. Wifi calling would be great because I encounter poor signal at work.
It seems to be part of the firmware, but I didn't know if there was a setting somewhere like the build prop file to change or something I could sideload to enable wifi calling.
Hopefully this can be done, I also am still rooted on LP mainly for tether. I would like the wifi calling feature, but don't want to give up another one.
It look like the update makes the wifi calling toggle appear up in the notification panel. I don't know if it adds any code. I wonder if it's buried somewhere in the firmware already? I thought maybe I could find/toggle it by creating a shortcut in Nova Launcher like I did with the permission manager for Access Lock. I couldn't find one although I don't know what I'm exactly looking for. there are settings buried in there with vzw in there so maybe it is buried in there.
