Flashing Samsung Galaxy SII - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I've been reading around this forum and found several guides for installing Cyanogen, but they seem to be made for you to install it on a previous installation, which is not my case, and I also have several questions.
First of all I have Samsung Galaxy SII (GT i9100)... i bouht it on Amazon, so I guess it's american. It still has the software it came from, I have never changed it. I've had several issues with this phone since it was new, like out of the blue I turn it on and it gets on a forever loop with the samsung logo. So everytime this hapens I have to wipe data and factory reset from the android system recovery.
Also about a year ago I got what I believe was a virus it took me a while to get rid of, but although I supposedly did, I feel like some issues are still around.
My question basically, what's the newest android version I could install in my phone? and how could I do it? what's a good guide for it or something?
Thank you so much for your help.

[Q] AT&T Note II Won't Read SIM After Rooting+Android Rev. HD

Hi, All--
I've been scouring the web for almost 24 hours before asking this question (because I know how much forum-regulars hate duplicate posts that have already been addressed), but I can't seem to find anything specific to my case.
I rooted my AT&T Note II using CWD and flashed Android Revolution HD. Everything worked fine. The ROM is sleek and elegant and packed with functionality. Unfortunately, my phone no longer recognizes the SIM card. At no point have I been able to make a phone call or send a text message since the phone has been rooted. In addition, it seems to shut down randomly. It may be worth mentioning that I rooted the phone using a Mac, but I don't think that affected too much.
Since then, I've been looking to possibly wipe the phone, re-root the phone, or un-root the phone and install AT&T's stock firmware (which seems to not exist yet), but none of these options have worked particularly well. I even wiped the phone then attempted to flash a different ROM (I tried Paranoid Android) but was greeted with multiple "Installation Aborted" messages in CWM.
This http://www.andromods.com/unroot-locking/how-to-restore-samsung-galaxy-note-2-to-stock-rom-firmware-with-odin.html went online yesterday and purports access to stock AT&T firmware for the Note II. Unfortunately, I can't confirm this because I can't run Odin on my Mac.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992303&highlight=wipe here on the forums, which seems like a promising way to unroot an AT&T Note II, but when I tried to run TWRP, I kept getting "Installation Aborted" messages as well.
Can anyone help?
Thanks, mods, for moving my thread to the appropriate forum.
Is bumping a thread considered rude here? If so, please forgive my impatience--I've never used an Android phone before a few days ago, and I'm kind of thrilled to finally get to play with my phone.

[Q] US Cellular SCH-950 I must be missing something here!

Okay, so first of all, yes, I am completely new to this. However I'm no idiot, I'm just more on the hardware side of computing. Anyways, I've searched the internet for well over twelve hours now trying to get a custom ROM (that I found here, Android Revolution HD 6.0) onto my Galaxy Note 2 (SCH-950). I live in the US and I have the 4G LTE version, N7105 I think... and I'm getting nowhere. I've downloaded the tool kit, Odin, probably reset my phone 40 times by now. No one else seems to be having this problem, at least not that I can find. So, really I just need like a direct instruction on how to root and flash a custom ROM onto this phone. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
EDIT: (even though no ones responded yet) I tried a few different ROMs and it kept getting stuck at the "Samsung" screen. The final one I tried is Doedexed V1.2. It got to 20% and then restarted. It also looped up at "Samsung." So I flashed over a generic recovery backup I have for the SCH-950 and then suddenly everything looks different, as If Doedexed V1.2 were suddenly applied. Everything works fine... occasionally something is in a different language, but that's minor. I know it's still my voicemail lol. So... yeah... I could definitely use some info now lol

[Q] Galaxy Rugby Pro LTE not turning on after custom ROM install failed

Hi all,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro LTE SGH-i547C (the Canadian version, with Telus) about a month ago, but now it won't turn on (although I can get into Download mode).
Full story: Yesterday I decided to root it (after unlocking it through Telus), and today I wanted to install the Liquid Smooth ROM, as it looked pretty sweet, but that didn't go as planned. After following the steps the first time, nothing happened to the phone's interface, so I did it a second time. This time, when it rebooted at the end of the installation, It got past the first two screens (name of model, and just "Samsung"), then it turned off.
What I've tried so far: First I tried applying the stock images (about 10 Mb, from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34463311#post34463311) through ODIN, but that made no difference, except that in one of the boot modes, instead of the Clockwork interface I, get the default interface (the background having an Android alien on its back, and a red triangle with an exclamation point above it). In these interfaces, I also wiped pretty much all that I could wipe, but to no avail.
Next I tried applying two of the stock ODIN images (500-600 Mb, from the same link) through ODIN, but when it starts with the SMD, I get a message "SMD header check fail: boot.img" on my phone, and ODIN thinks for a while, then stops, saying 1 fails and 0 successes.
So here I am, asking for help. Would any of you have any ideas, or explanations (in layman's terms!) of what has happened / what I should do to get my phone useable again? Thanks in advance.
P.S. Also, I should mention I'm doing all the accessing through VMWare Fusion running Windows XP, on Mac OS 10.7.5
Just an update on the situation - Telus gave me a brand new phone (without me paying anything), same model, because I bought mine less than a month ago, and they provide all new phones with such a warranty. All they did was check it wouldn't turn on, and I was good to go.
That being said, I still would be interested to know how to solve my previous situation in general, as I plan to get more into this sort of stuff.
Also, I got into a detailed discussion on reddit about the situation and some experimentation, which might be useful in solving the situation. It's located at /r/AndroidQuestions/comments/1du4j8/galaxy_rugby_pro_not_turning_on_after_failed_rom/

Samsung Gear and GALAXY Apps Problems on Non-Samsung Device

Hello! I know this is only my second post here, but I've been lurking around since the original Motorola Droid came out. I'm not a newbie by any means lol.
Anyway, onto my problem... First and foremost, I am using a Google Nexus 7 rooted with DarkKat 4.4.4 and a brand new Gear 2 rooted with TizenMod 3.0.
I purchased a Gear 2 with the intention that I could pair it up with any non-Samsung Android device, with the assistance of a number of tutorials (one being backups for one another if the previous didn't work). I've tried every tutorial I could squeeze out of the Internet, but to no avail. I can get the latest version of Samsung Gear to install and run just fine, but no matter what I get stuck into a, "Connecting to Gear...," loop. I also have a Samsung account tied to my Nexus and was able to, at one point, get GALAXY Apps running. Yes, I went into the build.prop file and changed my brand and manufacturer to Samsung and model to GS-I9500 (also tried GS-I9195) and changed the app's permissions respectively. Also, just as an FYI, I am able to successfully pair my Gear 2 with the Samsung Gear app.
I've been diligently working at this, and only this, for 12-15 hours at a time for 4 days straight... I'm at my wits end with this thing. What really irks me is I can't set the date and time (on a friggin watch of all things), but good news is I found out how to at least sideload my custom widgets on it.
Anyone have some insight on this?
Bump.

Reloading stock rom questions

https://samsung-firmware.org/download/GALAXY S6/86b0/VZW/G920VVRU4BOK7/G920VVZW4BOK7/
i've downloaded the rom from that sight posted above. Are the instructions True and that easy? Phone seems to have the download mode mentioned. I just got the phone so this will be the first time. I've got virus issues. So i want to do a wipe and reload and NOT the factory reset.
Second. is there a way to back up the apps and what not so that when i get the phone reloaded. I can just do a restore. Or do i still have to go the old fashioned route and manually install 1 by 1?
My note2 had the same problem and it seemed to be in the hardware as that phone got wiped many times. I'm hoping that's not teh case with this new phone. And i'll probably be doing multiple wipes till i can hopefully trace the problem to one particular app or decide if this is a verizon issue. My sprint note2 has the same apps as my verizon note2. But it don't have a virus. So I'm thinking verizon is screwing around with my phones somehow. I've had this virus problem since the day i bought my verizon note2. I thought my problems were solved with the s6, but, here i am. 4 weeks later. and out of the blue. it's back. And i've installed no updates or new apps over the past week. It appears to have popped back up 2 days ago.
Thanks.
