So, I was attempting to put music onto my external micro SD and put my phone into "mass storage" connection. When attempting to access the drive that appeared it threw up a "This drive must be formatted to "blank" format to be used." I agreed to the format and put the music into the drive present and the phone was still running. I looked at the music player but there was no music so I checked my storage in settings to see what was up. It told me that the storage was empty so I tried unmounting to remount it. It then said there was no SD card inserted so I made the decision to restart the phone. This was today and since that point I have been looking at a brick. No display will show up, no vibrations when mechanical buttons are pressed, no safe mode, no recovery. The only thing the phone will do is repeatedly connect and disconnect from my pc when plugged in through usb, and the light in the upper right corner will come on when it is plugged into either an outlet or pc.
I have already attempted to see if I couldn't use "Mobile Upgrade S 4.2.7" from alcatel or ODIN. The prior throws up an internal read error and asks me to try again, the latter can't even detect the phone. While the phone is connected all it shows "MTK USB Port" in device manager and the adb drivers are not recognizing it for me to attempt more. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them. Phone model is 4037T.

I've had my g1 for about 2 weeks. I have root. I have the RC33 update. I was able to connect to a pc after this update then one day I tried to get this song off of the computer so I plugged in the phone and it said "found new hardware"....I have tried everything different pc's different usb ports, different storage cards,....I tried the anycut app method....failed on one pc it opened on my laptop and then shut off again....I've soft reset, hard reset...removd the card and put it back in...no luck...any one with the answer please help...I will love you long time!
And the pc does recognize the phone is plugged up because its charging...
Hi,
Found new hardware means it was trying to install the usb drivers for your g1.
If this was not done correctly, than several things won't work like adb.
So that's what that message is.
But unplug your phone and go into settings, applications, development uncheck the box that says usb debugging,
Exit out and connect your cable, mount you drive and you can transfer files back and forth again.
Ok I did that but the box was already unchecked...so I plugged up the phone...and nothing happens so I check the box and the g1 acknowleded the pc and vise versa....and the installation wizard is for Android Phone...and is asking for an installation disk...so now I'm back to square 1...
Once you have plugged in the USB cable and Windows has recognized your phone (i.e. no new hardware found dialog anymore), you need to pull down the notification bar of the G1 and click on "connected to USB" or something along those lines. The phone will then give you an option to mount the SD card for read/write over the USB cable.
Hey guys,
1) thanks to many for tips/tricks etc, especially easy root
2) Man this GPS is a pain in my ass. Otherwise, BEAUTIFUL phone. (Day 1, 20 minutes into launch day)
Real problem:
I got weird behavior yesterday, wherein I connected the phone to my laptop (tried them all same prob) and it's configured as auto Mass Storage (I use DoubleTwist) but now I see the device, but NOT the SD cards...
Things recently done that could be a part of the issue, I suppose: installed SDK.
Now, unless I have it in USB dbg, and using Droid Explorer, I can't even friggen' tell it's there!
Any ideas? :/
Also, yesterday on the way home where it suddenly told me the that the SDCARD was invalid... rebooted and it's fine.. but some media arent locating right.
UHg.
Please help if you can, and TYIA
When i had USB Debugging on i couldn't see Drives also , turned that off , and all is back to normal.
And Mass Storage mode on off course. And once connected select Mount SD cards from phone.
I did have some weird issues with mounting/unmounting behavior when I connected the phone to my computer, but when I toggled USB debugging it started working perfectly.
in your phone go to "Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging" and enable that option. This allows both my internal SD and my external SD card to show up. While the phone is connected to the computer, it unmounts those cards from the phone so if you look up your "Settings -> SD card and phone storage" you will see them marked as unavailable. But after disconnecting the phone will remount them.
Well,
I've gone back and toggle usb debugging back on.
As point of fact Astro is now telling me /sdcard is empty, and threw me an error "error creating external cache". Doesn't help that Settings > SD Card and phone Storage > Internal SD card is showing me unavailable.
Oh crap.. :/ guess I might be exchanging soon

Click to collapse
This happened to me before I enabled debugging. Simply power down the phone and restart it. It will remount your drives.
I've power cycled this thing so many times over the last day, it'd think a weeks gone by.
New whacky behavior... apparently the included Music Player sees my songs, but DoubleTwist doesn't. Also, about half my MP3's have 4 entries... oh what fun.
Looks like I might just be backing up my contacts, factory reset, format SD and reflash the stock image :/
When connecting to the PC with MTP, it loses the SD card if the PC doesnt properly talk MTP to it. Reboot.
When connecting to my work PC as mass storage, its not even seen on the front ports.
Reboot phone.
Set to USB to Mass Storage.
Install Samsung drivers on PC (needed? idk)
Install DoubleTwist on PC.
Uninstall DT on phone.
Reboot Phone.
Install DT on phone.
Plug into back port of work PC
Working drive.
Oh wtf. Wierd. I'll wax my config at home entirely tonight....
I was recently staying with some mates and tried connecting my HTC Legend to their laptop to transfer files, but the Legend did not recognize it was connected to a computer, just had the charging icon as if the cord was plugged into power.
I have the 'Default connection type' as Disk Drive, 'Ask me' each time option enabled.
On the computer, no autoplay or anything happens like it used to. I can see a removable disk drive, but it has the "Please insert a disk into drive X" error when I try open it.
I can access the SD card and everything fine through the phone..
Anyone know what's up?
Cheers
EDIT: Stock unrooted Legend
EDIT: Nevermind, rebooted phone and it works now.. sorry
This exact same thing started happening to me last night as well. I can see the drives in "My Computer", but they are greyed out and give me the "Insert drive to continue" error message. What gives?
usb
howzit guys
have you'l tried switching the phone off and then on again?
i've had this happen few times
its normally some app causing it not to popup or to be very slow in popping up
wait awhile.if still nothing then try switch off and then on and then connect the usb to the pc
When I plug in the gtablet to USB on PC I can't see sdcard only the internal memory. I notice that when I first connect gtablet to PC it tried to install some Nvidia Harmony driver but it fails. Any ideas why I can't access the sdcard? It is mounted in settings. I also tried formatting it again but no luck.
The Harmony Driver failing is more than likely just the ADB Driver, the super thread talks about setting ADB up, but that won't fix the SD card thing. Someone said something about a wireless FTP app that will access both, it's in one of the other can't access SD threads but I'm not sure which, just saw it last night.
precy76,
Usually when I use USB, I set the G-Tablet on a little stand where I can see and use (touch) the screen. Then I plug the miniUSB plug into the tablet.
Next I plug the standard USB plug into a working USB port on my PC. When that happens I get a message on the tablet to "Turn On" the USB. I touch to OK that on the tablet and it usually repeats a confirming message and I touch to OK that again.
Usually there is a delay on the PC. I keep the main screen clear because after several seconds it will pop up a message asking whether I want to open a Window in Explorer to look at the files. I click on the PC to do that and it opens up a Windows Explorer window showing the usual PC drives, network, etc. on the left and there is an entry for the G-Tablet listing the sdcard drives and folders in it.
When I want to install an .apk, I put it in the "Download" folder (an then later us the stock ES File Explorer program on the tablet to go to and open/install it).
If you can access the sdcard as above, you actually can load the "Recovery Folder" and "Update.zip" files from your PC to the tablet sdcard directory. Then if you do the Power Button/Volume + startup, it will find and load the update.
Or if you edit the "Command" file in the "Recover Folder" to change the address from the sdcard to sdcard2 (while it still is on your PC using NotePad or the like) you can put the modified files on sdcard and when you re-boot it will load the files from the microSD chip in the sdcard2 slot.
Hope this helps.

P. S. -- When you finish working on the G-Tablet, you need to go to the USB icon on the PC Taskbar (lower right hand corner of the screen) and tell it to close and eject the tablet USB drive. It will show up there as "Harmony."
When it is ejected, then you unplug everything and go back to the G-Tablet.
So i installed CM 7.1 tonight and when i plug my phone into the computer using my usb cable it detects my phone, charges it and allows me to mount for usb storage.
when i mount for usb storage i do not see the sd card under removable hard drives. im new to all of this rooting and this is my first time rooting and installing a custom rom so any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Search on forums. Theres a thread about that. I think you need a proper driver for you pc, in order to communicate with your phone.
Sent from my LG-P999
i have searched the forums, most of the issues are saying its not mounting and what not. i do have the LGdriver downloaded otherwise i would not have been able to put the necessary files onto my sd card. the problem started after i rooted my phone. my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in but once i got into USB mass storage mode it doesnt show up in my removable hard drives..
sorry if sounds confusing, im having a hard time describing what exactly is wrong with it.
when i click turn on usb storage it'll say USB storage is on and the green android guy will turn orange and all the apps that are on my SD card are no longer in the app menu. but i have no way of copying files over to my sd card.
Go to Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging and turn that on, then plug in you USB as usual.
Hope it works
it worked! thanks!
at least you guys arent having the annoying problem im having.........every other day my phone says i have a blank sd card and when i put it in the pc it tells me it is damaged. It only does it when i mount it to usb. I think it is because the phone gets a little hot sometimes. Quite annoying
