Retiring my S4 Mini. Should I get the S7? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Just wanted the opinion of people who have the Galaxy S7. Simply put, should I get this phone or would you have a different phone if you had the choice, having had the S7 for a while? Sorry, a really noob question but would really appreciate some help . :good:

I got an S7 when i did retire my S4 mini ( Well not fully retired, i will use it as a GPS in car )
I`m happy with it. No more custom roms ( no need at all ) . Speed is awesome, battery is great, build quality is way over S4 mini, screen is larger ( got tired of that small one ), camera is way better ( tho i don`t use it so much )
If u have the money for it, then hell yeah.

I love my S7. Best phone I ever had.

Its possibly the best phone out right now.
My current android phone top 3:
1. Galaxy s7 and s7 edge
2. HTC 10
3. LG G5
Of course all flagship phones.

Honestly, I'm debating trading mine in for a 64 GB S6. I'm tired of fighting all the bugs.
First S7 wouldn't read an SD card, returned it for a new one after a week.
Second S7 won't keep an LTE connection for more than 3 days. Drops to emergency calls only mode. Telus has reset the network connection twice. On my second SIM card, no change. If I force it to 4G-only mode, then it works better, but too slow.
And now it's having issues with dropping wireless connection. Shows a link but 0bps transfers.
If the 3rd S7 has any issues I'm upgrading to an S6. 3 strikes and you're out!
The wife's S6 has been running perfectly on the same carrier.

Buy the S7 or S7 Edge. It is SOOOOO much better than your S4 Mini. Battery, performance, camera, Screen, Build Quality, Water Resistance,....
Best phone EVER.

The radio SUCKS!

I'm sitting at home nice good HSPA+ Signal then all of a sudden it just drops the EDGE
my other phone (iPhone is still on HSPA+ no issues) great so I toggle airplane mode on and off boom still edge, so I reboot and boom STILL EDGE
After a while it reconnect to HSPA+ or until it picks up LTE
Does this happen to you? It seems the radio got even crappier with 4.4.2
Im fully stock 100% I have 2 Nexus 5 units in hand one is from T-Mobile one is from play store both experience the same problem
Does anyone know if this is software or hardware Antenna or qFE1100 and does this happen to you?
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLUqguZS1Q8
Never had this issue. Tried reflashing the old radio back?
This should be in q&a by the way

no issues here as well.
Both nexus 4 and 5 suffer from signal drops.
LG and Samsung made devices in general have weaker antennas than Motorola/Apple for example.

I'm on sprint BTW so no hspa but with the .23,radio my phone is less eager to connect from 3g to lte unless I airplane mode it
This happens connected to your cel-fi?

Didn't you just post this exact thread yesterday? You said Google wanted you to get a new device, so do that first.

Yes but it seems new or not they all have the issue I tested 5 of my friends with nexus 5's all of them report exact same issue
I also managed to catch my 2 units on video
Where i live i even have H+ indoors, couldn`t get that with a samsung or htc. So nothing wrong with the radio for me.

Why would i flash back to 4.4. The Point is google ffffed up somewhere and I hope this gains momentum as right now Google does not see it as an issue and is blaming it on the carrier.
I think I'm having the same issue, my data has been bad(between .5mbps-1mbps) since I got this phone. First I thought it was the APN settings, then I thought maybe the towers, right now I'm thinking I might be throttled by at&t. I call them one person says yes, call again another person says no, wtf!
I came from a galaxy s 3 with no build problems, just slow updates. Damn I guess there's no winning with Android.

Not the point at all. Either you want a solution or you want to blame. This isn't an issue for the 3 N5's I administer so it sounds like a localised problem.

Take your Nexus 5's to an area where you don't get HSPA+ for example your basement then take it out and bring it to an area with HSPA+
Let it sit and see if it will switch to HSPA+ if not toggle airplane mode on then off then see if it will switch.

AT&T G2 LTE signal problem?

Hey all,
I recently picked up a LG G2 (second hand)
and I believe I have some issues with the phone not picking up LTE so easily.
Before this, I had Iphone 5, nexus 4, G Pro, Gnote2, etc... and they all picked up LTE just fine at my home
However, G2 rarely picks up LTE signal and it is mostly on HSPA+ (4G Icon) I believe.
I took it into AT&T store to see if I could get a new sim card but when I got there, the phone picked up LTE no problem.........
Looks like many Sprint users are experiencing same issue.. is there a fix for this??
*The phone is currently on stock / non-rooted 4.4.2
Thank you in advance!
I'm in the same boat as you, my data will work for a good 30+ min and then all of sudden no network for 30 seconds or so. I've also been unable to connect to a lte signal I've only been able to use hspa, searching the threads on here have been hit and miss with a lot of vague answers but nothing clear cut if anyone's dealt with this and has a clear fix it would be appreciated.

A little update to this, yesterday I went to AT&T to see if I could maybe clear this up with a new SIM card and while waiting I checked out the two G2s they had there, these two display phones were literally 10 ft apart and one had lte while the other one was stuck on 4g only. I think this is looking more like a hardware issue now after checking out both store phones on display, I'm going in today to swap out my handset to see if this will solve it.

Here's another update for those with lte or signal loss issues, after trying everything I could find on these forums the only answer was a warranty swap out, as soon as I put my SIM card into the warranty phone let showed up and after half a day I haven't experienced no random signal loss at all.

Interesting...
This is interesting. Currently running CM11 latest nightly and I thought it was due to CM codebase. It looks like non-CM related?
Please keep the details coming. When I have time, I will flash a stock ROM to see what happens. But at this point, it looks scary that maybe hardware problems might be there.
For comparison, 2 iPhones literally next to G2 had 3 bars with LTE while my G2 had no network.

After a full day and a half use now im fulling supporting the theory of a hardware fault. Before returning my phone for a replacement i was fully rooted on gardys kit kat rom with recovery, i had read that supposedly rooting or flashing was apparently breaking lte so i went back to the stock jellybean rom only to discover the issue still there, i then fully updated to the over the air kit kat update which also did not solve the issue. It really does look like theres a issue with the phone itself.

Oh wow. Thanks for your reply.
So i have tried working on this and so far no good.
LTE picks up good when i walk into an att store and that is causing difficulty with store workers..
I get stable, steady connection with hspa+ but rarely pick up LTE..
What is the process of getting a replacement? Its way over 15,30 day period for me..
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
For me lte did not work at all even in store, I can see where you might have a issue if they can't reproduce the issue but just be persistent and they should take care of it for you. As for warranty you have a year from your purchase date for a warranty claim through At&t, I went through a device support center which you might have depending on where you live otherwise you can send it in. You must revert back to a complete stock state or you will be more than likely denied.

Got it fixed after several attempts with new sim cards! Picks up Lte fine! Wootwoot
My fix
call att tech support make sure that the lg g2 imei matches your line/sim card
So I went through a bunch of phones in the past couple weeks, I have at&t service but my last phone was verizon droid maxx. Next I went to the AT&T store and he put my phone number under the new sim card for my AT&T LG G2 but the rep didn't ask me for the IMEI or look at the phone at all, he just got my line on the new sim and I left. I noticed the phone was going back and fourth to LTE but it was 4g (non LTE) about 70% of the time. I changed APN settings, I updated, nothing worked. Then I remembered a long time ago that if you go from android, blackberry, or iphone to another type of phone you would have to call att and make sure something was changed so I called att tech support and asked if they would put my IMEI under the new sim, the tech said yeah I should do that because currently my line doesn't show I have the g2 (make sure to call tech support because online it'll show you have a g2 and if you call costumer service usually they will see the g2 too) and after that i reset my phone and got LTE 100% of the time since then.

Gear S2-3G Software Update

I've read that there was an update to the software for the gear s2. Was there an update to the gear s2 3g? I specifically have a verizon version of the 3g and i have not received any recent updates to the watch (i believe there was one a while back, but I do not have the latest updates that have been discussed for the classic and bluetooth sport versions of this watch.
Thank you!
I, too, am waiting for an update for my AT&T S2 3G. Because ours are carrier-specific, it seems to take longer for the updates, just like for carrier-branded phones. ?

I figured... though i don't see anything verizon specific on my watch the way I do on my phone.
I had one yesterday for my ATT one. It finally gives Numbersync as well as some battery enhancement and something else I forget. I was super happy to finally have Numbersync though. That completed this watch for me. (Well, that and then when Samsung pay works with the watch.)

Yes, I got that one too. But it's different from the one the other S2 models received. Their update gives more Setting options which I want on my S2 3G as well such as screen timeout.

Problems with cellular reception since updating to Marshmellow on my S6 Duos

Hey everyone,
I've never really been into the whole flashing deal and I'm also pretty new to the xda-forums so pls don't hurt!
Anyway, so live in Germany and imported myself an S6 Dual Sim Version via Amazon, so that I could have Internet both there and at home in Ausria at all times. It had a Russian Baseband and CSC but it worked and filthy casual that I am I really didn't mind until now. It's a really weird issue, so sorry that the post turned out pretty long. I haven't found any similar common 6.0.1 Bugs, however I'm not even completely sure if it really is a problem of the updated OS anymore...
So here's the deal.
In Germany I got the prompt to update to Marshmellow 6.0.1 via OTA. Having heard mostly good things about it I downloaded it without really bothering too much about informing myself about any known issues with 6.0.x . After downloading it in Germany my Signal and Mobile Internet worked fine, however I did experience some battery drain in the following days and decided to initialise my phone via Samsung Smart Switch, as I had done with 5.1.1 when I first got the phone because it's cpu never went into sleep mode. Worked out fine then.
Well ever since I did the same thing with my S6 with 6.0.1 the whole dilemma started. Regularly, my phone will show 4G Signal Reception and even full bars, but I am not able to load a webpage or even be called by phone. Wifi works fine, when I have these outages. When I activate flymode and deactivate it again, my reception works again for a couple of minutes, however, the issue will return after 5-10 minutes. Usually even faster when I'm in a moving car or train.
When I switch SIM Cards I can be called on both, but I can't seem to connect to my mobile internet on the Austrian card (can't check on the mobile connection from the german card as roaming is locked by the provider). I went to my austrian network provider and had my sim card replaced, no change. I flashed DBT G920FXXU3DPCA Android 6.0.1 via Samsung Updates hoping that the right baseband would fix it - Nope.
Any of you guys have any other ideas? My last resort is flashing back to 5.1.1 stock. Trying to replace it through Amazon will probably be hard, because the KNOX Counter is tripped. It already was before I flashed 6.0.1, but that doesn't really matter to Amazon I guess. Also the bug is way to specific to replicate anyway, so I'd probably receive the same device back and I don't really know how I could prove via screenshot, etc...
If there's anything I can upload that would help, pls tell. Hoping somebody here might have an idea!
Having similar problems but also with wifi. Any advise appreciated

I have the same problem with cellular reception with my S6 duos G920F. My problem is only with sim slot 2 though. It seems to show full bars but when people call me they are getting me as unreachable.

Can I bother you for some suggestions and info?

OK I'm sure you've all watched someone with first world problems before struggle while deciding on which fancy phone to get. With that said here is my first world problem.
I had the G4 verizon. And I had the Galaxy S5 verizon. Now I'm looking at the S6 or possibly Note 4 maybe even note 5.
The questions I have are as follows.
1. does the S6 have dual antenna for being able to make calls and use data at the same time without wifi? The s5 I know does this but think I heard that starting with the s6 they only have 1 antenna. My G4 only had 1 antenna and I hated it.
2. Same question as above but with the note 4 and note 5 (I know i know wrong section to ask about notes on the s6 forum but maybe someone has experience here)
3. Which if any of the above Verizon phones is rootable. s6,s5,note 4 note 5. I think the verizon S5 was not rootable last time I had mine.
4. I'm pretty familiar with all the other phones but does the S6 have any known issues? Like the G4 and it's dreaded bootloop. Think I read somewhere that the S6 were prone to catching fire? Read that a while back so it may have been an isolated indecent.
5. Throw any random information you know about these phones or other phones that are verizon / straight talk verizon tower accessible through micro sim/nano sim. Really any info you have. :highfive:
1. Single antenna but using data whilst on a call is possible once you activate advanced calling. This can be done on the phone itself and doesn't cost anything additional to do.
2. I would imagine my response in 1. will apply to these phones that have a single antenna and advanced calling capabilities.
3. On the S6 nothing is rootable beyond the OE2 firmware (which is a rare find). This is my opinion coming from a current S6 owner that was rooted, the development is almost non-existent since nobody is working on trying root the newer builds. I decided to uproot not only because of the development but because my phone performance was ridiculous. I'm sure the other Galaxy line phones will be just as tough although I hear root was achieved on the later S7 Edge. If root is a must I would look elsewhere. But the stock firmware for what it's worth is not bad at all. Just miss having an ad-blocker..
4. Other than the pre lollipop memory leaks eversince going stock phone feels like it should've been this way from the beginning. However your opinion may vary based if root is something you need.

OK thanks, Looks like I'll be sticking with the S5 or Note 4. Because I use either prepaid verizon or straight talk and Verizon blocks prepaid customers from using advanced wifi calling. Bummer.
