interesting, thanks for sharing!
Will tether for root be affected by this change? Will the only change from verizon on July 7 the removal of their Mobile Hotspot capability?
I am curious as to what they might do to limit third party apps.
I really wish I had good data service in my house because I would really get this plan....4G is way faster than my cable modem
I would jump on this if I hadn't just talked time warner into 40 bucks/month in discounts for keeping my hotspot....
There has to be something missing here...that's way too good to be true..we shall see though
Holy crap this is fantastic news!
This could be AWESOME!!
Does anyone know if Vzw is going to throttle the heavy users???? I think that's going to be the deal maker/breaker...
Thoughts? Input from vzw rep? C'mon, let's get some real details on this!!!
So this would be an additional $30 on top of our existing $30, for $60 total if you want unlimited tethering, or am I reading this wrong?

We don't get any real details till after it goes live, maybe the day before LOL.. I would assume some sort of throttling would have to take place...$30 is cheaper than any internet service out there let alone this fast

Thirty is cheaper yes.. but $60 isn't

But sixty is considering you were already paying for cable/DSL/whatever
Using XDA Premium
Don't be cheap... Buy it.
Verizon should leverage the $30 unlimited data plus this $30 tethering to get into AT&T controlled DSL/U-verse territory.
not really a bad deal if you ask me, if you want a 4g hotspot device or usb modem there is NO unlimted plan and the cheapest you can get on that is 50 bux for 5 gigs so 60 for unlimted plus being intergrated with your phone sounds fair to me.

I've got a hotspot from time warner and unfortunately its on sprints **** network. But since they gave me a bunch of discounts, its cheaper to keep it and not get the tethering plan.
But for time warner, all data (3g and 4g) is unlimited. The only reason I chose it over something else.
Don't help us Verizon customers. Plus why pay for something that dosent work, even if it is cheaper. Sure u have herd.the old saying you get what u pay for.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Doesn't work? I haven't had a single issue with it...
The hotspot is 30. The other 30 you already pay...so 30 is what it would cost to use for your home internet, not 60... Semantics and math are hard.
Interesting.
I have a question on tethering. Is there 0 tethering without the plan? I tether maybe once every few months, for 5-10 minutes while I check an email or something. Is there like a 10-15MB allowance before you have to get the unlimited plan or another plan?
I mean without root and alternative tether apps.

I for one really regret having bought a mobile hotspot the month before I got a Thunderbolt, and ending up locked into a 2 year contract on a $50/5GB plan.
So I use my Nexus S for mostly data and have a WiFi network available to me 90% of the time so I just want data for the other 10% (so 2gigs per month should be plenty). I don't use a ton of min per month and want to port my number to google voice. I DON'T want to pay for minutes/texts through tmobile anymore.
I went to a tmobile store and looked at the hotspot devices they sell and found out they do have a sim card. Tmobile just sets it up to be data only which the won't do for phones. Anyway I'm tempted to buy a hotspot and just put the sim into my phone.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone has tried this on tmobile or any other national carrier? I'm not on contract and am willing to switch if I have to.
I went to tmobile and told them I had a galaxy tab I wanted a data sim for. They were skeptical but sold me a 1gb prepaid one for $30. I got home and stuck it in my NS and am not having any luck getting data connectivity.
I tried editing the build prop to be a galaxy tab but I don't really know what I can and can't change safely or if there is any other modification I can make. I'll try just about anything if anyone has any ideas?
Why don't u try T mobile new 30 dollar plan. You get unlimited text and web with 100 talk mins.

Dammit. When did they start this?
texting is so expensive... :/ There are apps like text4free which offer free texting.
All you need is data.

Been with AT&T for 14 years. I had the original Note for 13 months, sold that and got the Note 2, had that for 9 months, I wanted to try a true 1920x1080 device so I sold my Note 2 in August, Got an S4, Great phone by the way, once you get of the crap in it you don't want, I didn't research the S4 first before I bought it, and didn't know the bootloader was locked by AT&T, anyway, got around that like most people that want to flash. On 9/18/2013 I took the plunge and told AT&T to stuff it and I went and got a T-mobile unlimited everything account for $70, with no throttling. So far I'm happy with the service. Great coverage here in Florida and fast HSPA and LTE. I'm using my AT&T S4 on T-mobile's network after enabling the T-Mobile AWS/HSPA/LTE bands on the S4. As crisp as the S4 screen is, I miss having a Note, so I ordered the Note 3 on T-Mobile and looking forward to getting my Gigantic phone back lol. Hopefully it arrives with an unlocked bootloader.
Anybody that want's to turn their S4 into a full fledged T-mobile phone, here is the link. Took about 8 minutes. then I flashed a T-Mo ROM, Wi-Fi calling and texting works great. HSPA gets me 18 mbps down, and 5 up, LTE has been 26 down and 12 up. Fast enough for me.

No, nothing to due with locked bootloader. although I wasn't happy about it. It's my phone, I bought it outright, I feel they have no right to lock down my equipment. I would of got the google edition if I knew they locked it down. I got tired of AT&T nickle and dimming me to death. $70 for the actual voice plan, $20 for texting, then another $30 for unlimited data but soon as I hit 5GB they knock me down to 2G edge, which is worthless, so I don't really consider that unlimited. I'm a truck driver, and I watch a lot of netflix in the truck, and I can go through 5 GB in a week. T-Mobile don't throttle you at all, I got it in writing.
I am with T-Mobile and they do throttle you after 10gb read the fine print!

Dang! My max was 92GB. Thought that was outlandish. I average around 13-15 GB per month.
How will they decide who gets throttled. Think I read something about those in the top xx% will be throttled.... Can't remember though.

As of March 2014, the top 5% of data users were using 4.7 GB or more of data each month.

It's funny I just did a speed test and got 51 mb upload and said so much for throttling. Then saw this post saying they cancelled the policy. I think Verizon is really starting to feel the heat from it's customers. A lot are jumping ship if they are in an area that supports other carriers and Verizon is feeling it. I am sure they have read online and received complaints about this throttling and were told if they did they would lose customers. It doesn't seem smart to upset the customers with out a contract that can leave at anytime.

Hats off to you. I'm impressed
So, for the heavy data users, is it mostly from using the phone as a mobile hotspot? If so, are there any elegant ways of integrating it into the home network? As in, extending it into the home WiFi. I get free internet as part of my poa, but when I move, it would be great if I don't have to pay for home internet and just run my computers off my phone's data plan.

I'm not positive but I believe that's for the people that have the unlimited plan. They say to have the 10gb hotspot you have to enable it first.
Im on the 2GB plan, but seem this. I went ahead and changed to the "unlimited" but I have to wait until my next cycle to see the change. I'll guess I'll find out in a week.
This is a legit promotion they are having in order to counter Verizon's new unlimited plan. This plan includes everything unlimited, 480p/ 720p video streaming (no longer 360p but 720p 60 fps gets throttled, 10 GB of 4G hotspot tethering (then throttles to 3/2G) and includes data overseas (not at sea) and texting on planes through wifi. This costs altogether $75 but with autopay, goes down to $70; I did this in person at a kiosk so I knew I wouldn't mess it up. It's a great deal and this is also available with the 2 for $100 and other T-Mobile one plans.
I'm currently on the simple choice 2gb plan. But seen I could upgrade to unlimited at no additional cost. Just thought that it was odd.

You get 10gb for LTE hotspot or usb tethering. But you do need to enable that option which is free. After the 10gb you get slowed to 3g speed. That's only for the hotspot and tethering. I pulled the trigger and switched last week. Today we finally paid off both the S7s we had financed. T-Mobile emailed me telling me my new bill will be $158.12 That's for 4 phones. I was on the 2 gb plan. As of today my oldest son who now lives an hour away has used 6gb and not been slowed down yet. So apparently the new plan kicked in immediatly.
