Notification LED ... working properly?

Hi everybody,
got a brand new Nexus 5 from thuesday and so far I'm happy with it... There's just a thing that makes me angry; it seems to me that the notification LED is not working properly, or maybe I did not understand which are the roles which determine WHEN it should light or not.
Example: I set in Whatsapp configuration that notifications should use the LED (in particular, I also set the green color for these notifications).
Sometimes Whatsapp messages leads to a blinking led (when the screen is dark, so, in standby). This is what I expected to see everytime there's an unread Whatsapp message.
But... it happens sometimes that a received, unread whatsapp message doesn't trigger any LED activity.
Just 20 mins ago, I heard from my Nexus 5 a notification sound (an incoming Whatsapp message)... but no led activity at all.
Few mins ago I received another Whatsapp message, and this time I heard the sound and can see the green led blinking.
So... It's possible I didn't understand the correct behaviour of these LED notifications... or maybe it's a known bug and others have noticed the same issue.
Does anyone found a similar behaviour ? It seems to me it's a matter of software, because *when* the LED blinks, it blinks without any defect.
Thanks
I'm having the opposite issue from you. Sometimes the Notification LED gets stuck blinking, even after all notifications on my phone have been cleared.
This is happening on my phone, as well as the two others I purchased.
Mine seems fine so far
No issues here either. I have Handscent controlling the LED for SMS/MMS. And I let Android decide what to do for Gmail and Exchange LEDs. If you want full control you can probably download one of the LED apps and let that control all your LED settings for each app.
I'm having the same issue. Sometimes the notification light decides not to blink... I have no idea why this happens though. Just wanted to chime in that you're not alone.
Get light flow, the LED is a lot more useful with that app.

I'm rooted and using light flow and after I've turned it on, read the notification and then switched it off I also sometimes get the light blink continuously until I open up light flow and it's again obtained root access. On the N4 it just requested root at startup and then never had to again but doesn't seem to till I've opened the app on the N5. Maybe it's a 4.4 bug.
No LED earlier when i received a Tapatalk notification. I don't know if that's the phone or the app at fault? Otherwise i seem to get LED notification in most cases.
Okie, so it seems that notification issues are quite common... I'm tempted to buy light flow just to verify it's not an hardware fault which requires RMA.... (I'm actually for the software fault ...which isn't tracked yet)

Lightflow works perfectly for me.

I can confirm ^. Just got the paid version of Light Flow, works like a charm so far. Lets you change LED colours. Really awesome app. SO far i tested it for missed call(red blink)/hangout MMS(purple)/gmail e-mail and hotmail e-mail (green). Its been working flawlessly so far. The stock LED function did work for my hangout text messages, however it would not work my my e-mail. With light flow everything is working perfectly now + the extra functionality that it comes with.
LightFlow is definitely a worthwhile investment. The developer is quite active on XDA as well, and is quick to reply to any feedback. The app works as advertised (had it for my N4 and now N5) and provides great functionality. For me, the LED notification was a key selling feature. I hated having to turn the screen on my previous phones to see if I even had any notifications, but now I can glance at my phone and know if I have a text, e-mail, missed call, etc. So having absolute control over the LED is awesome.
For my N5 I have had some occasions when the LED would act a bit on its own, whether it would pulse white for a second or two randomly, or not turn on when it was supposed to. It's rare when it happens and is really a non-issue. Where I haven't had much success, though, is testing the LED when I'm setting up notifications in LightFlow. Doing LED tests in LightFlow doesn't seem to work for some reason. Not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this or not.
Is there any specific configuration setting for lightflow on Nexus5 or it should work out of the box?

Should work straight out of the box Although it may involve some playing around, and also make sure notifications in the apps themselves are turned off or you'll essentially have two going off at once (one for the app, one for LightFlow).
The dev just posted a helpful link that I used to get testing the LED to work, and also would help configure LightFlow for your N5 too:

I'm not rooted but I remembered using an app called missed call with the og droid and it works perfectly on the nexus 5. Free too!

I'm a noobi. I just received my Nexus 5 yesterday evening. When the phone goes into SLEEP mode, whether flip cover closed or just after a while in idle, the notification light keeps blinking, Is this normal? Does LightFlow have a setting to not blink when in SLEEP mode?

I installed LightFlow and tried to stop the blinking light in sleep mode. I enabled LightFlow and enabled sleep settings and checked the box for Stop the notification light when sleeping. The notification light still blinks when the NFC tag is triggered or when the phone times out for sleep. Please advise.

[Q] Trouble with delayed notifications and events?

This morning I was an hour and a half late to work (no big deal though) because my alarms never went off. When I woke up and turned my phone on, there were no notifications. 3 seconds later, the four "Missed alarm" notifications came up one at a time very quickly.
Today, I didn't receive two facebook messages that were sent 2 hours earlier and 1 hour earlier. They randomly came in both at once.
It seems like the phone is going to sleep when the screen is off.
I don't have Greenify or anything like it to stop apps from working.
My Wifi setting is set to stay ON while the screen is off.
What could be doing this?! I'm so confused.
My alarms failed to go off again today as well. What is going on?!
mhm
not sure if this will help at all but, have you tried going in settings > apps, and wiping cache/data for clock app?
also, please address the following questions:
- device (some people come in here with different devices, instead of posting in their own device' section)
- OS version (version/build, google stock rom or custom rom)
- mods (if any)

strange alert - cannot be stopped

https://www.dropbox.com/s/n26hxz8bm2dvb92/2015-10-15 15.45.16.mp4?dl=0
The above video shows how my Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910G, 5.0.1, unrooted, original) has for the last 2 months or so occasionally played an alert (audible only), which cannot be stopped.
No notification or other indication shows what app or service causes this alert, it is NOT happening at times that
a calendar or such should trigger but happens out of the blue.
I have tried stopping each and every APP, (terninate from 'usage timelines pro')
It is even impossible to turn of the sound (from the sound icon in the notification/settings), it just goes on,
The only remedy I have found is to restart the phone.
Does anyone here recognize this sound and can tell me what causes this?
Phone details on:

It sounds like the timer expiration notice. Check in your clock app.
Yes it does, but I have no timer alerts set. Is there any way another app can set such timer alerts? Next time this happens (it's infrequent, thnank god, but when it happens it does so at themost inconvenient times , I'll check the clock app... Thanks.
Other suggestions still welcoms

After latest upgrade email vibration notifications stopped working

CyanogenMod13.0-ZNH0EAS2JK.
After latest (snapshot?) update I don't get vibrating notifications from specific emails, which I set up previously
and were working correct. Also, no vibrating alarms from a 3rd party program "Alarm Clock", which was working fine
as well.
This is happens overnight, or after long time of inactivity. If I pickup the phone, and press the power button to switch
on the screen, all the email notifications and vibrations suddenly start showing up and vibrating.
That doesn't happen after short period of inactivity (1-5 minutes, didn't test longer).
Appreciate any help, thank you.

Inconsistent Notifications

Anyone else seeing delayed by some minutes or non existent notifications on the S3?
This is true for text and email notifications
I can not see any settings for controlling the sync rate or anything else that might impact this.
The phone is a note 4
Yeah. There are times that emails never arrive on the watch.
There is a setting that if you are on the phone, you will not get notifications on the watch. You can set this to receive notifications when on the phone.
Notifications will not show if you have "Do not disturb" enabled or if you are using the phone at the time the notification arrives (though this can be disabled)
Also if you are not wearing the watch, you won't get notifications.
I have noticed very odd behavior with my watch as well. I have the LTE version of the Frontier, with NumberSync enabled, but my watch is mostly connected via Bluetooth which I have found means it is disconnected from cellular. It seems that if the Bluetooth is disconnected and reconnected that I no longer receive any notifications, messages, phone calls, etc from my phone (nor NumberSync) until I reboot my watch. According to the Gear Manager on the phone everything is connected and it shows battery stats and such, but nothing gets sent to the watch until I reboot it.
Having same problem!
Since raising this a couple of weeks ago it seems to be a lot more consistent now, in fact I have only noticed one late notification in the last few days.
I have not changed any options on the phone or watch - go figure.

So DND on the phone will block the notifications on the watch, is that correct? Any way to disable that feature? I often put my phone in DND but would like to get notifications on the watch.

No, sorry, I meant if you had DND set on the watch.
.
Very strange but since I don't have a notification sound for my stock email app in my phone when I receive an email, the watch is not vibrating when I get an email. If I set a sound notifications I n in the phones mail app the clock vibrates. Feature or bug?
I have noticed that notifications are not recieved on my watch when it doesn't detect its on your wrist, same for always on display, it only works when it detects its on your wrist. It is very annoying as I constantly struggle to get my frontier to detect a heart rate and know it is on my wrist, so therefore the screen is always turning off and I never get notifications going to the watch.
Might be a fix
Been having the same issue for a couple of weeks since purchasing my s3 frontier. While looking through the notifications setting in gear app on phone. I noticed the notifications are only sent when watch is being worn. I was wearing the watch so disabled this feature. Texts began coming in just as fast as on apple watch. Apparently, the gear s3 is not very good at telling if it's being worn. Might be related to inconsistent fitness tracking.
