Hey guys,
Im not sure if this has been asked as I've looked as many places as I can. This is the first android phone that i had that uses only internal memory so im not sure how to check the partitions i have made using CWM recovery.
usually i would use adb shell and check my mmcblk0 but that obviously doesnt work.
When i used the partition SD option in CWM i did:
advanced -> partition SD card -> 1024 for the ext -> 32 for the swap
my question is, is the internal memory now partitioned to ext4? as i now have an internal storage or 0.92gb
also if i wanted to increase the partition can i just simply go back and do the process over again? except chose 2048 and etc?
you cant repartition it. this isnt the G1 where you need a
ext2/3/4 partition
swap
hd space
the NS is:
0.98 GB Internal App Space
13.31 GB of USB Storage
1.71 GB reserved for Android OS
other phones have:
internal + sd card space. If this is the case, it follows the same format as the NS BUT the sd card is expanded space for USB storage.
thanks for the reply zephik, so CWM's partition tool shouldnt be used? or it just doesnt do anything for us.
because i now have:
total storage:13.31 GB
internal storage:0.93 GB <-- instead of 0.98
im currently downloading gparted to see if i can check what CWM has done. and perhaps getting rid of the 32mb swap if its not needed

I would just straight up stay away from it. I remember on the Vibrant, "partition sd card" would semi-brick your phone because it would attempt to repartition the internal sdcard (which is what we have) and to fix it would require using Odin.
You also probably have 9020A, I have 9020T so it could be partially different. Swap is not needed.. at least not on 2nd-gen Android phones and above.

OK cool, its good that i didnt get a semi brick from this then. From what i can tell CWM didnt do anything if the total storage is still 13.31 and didnt modify anything on the internal storage as it is still 0.98 ( used up 57mb of it thats why it shows 0.93) still a bit interested as to if the swap got created or not
hi guys,
i bought this new one phone and i am very disappointed about a strange issue here :
my phone is supposed to have 8GB INTERNAL STORAGE and 768 MB RAM but mine has (from system info) 4 GB INTERNAL STORAGE and 498 MB RAM, also on the box is written 8GB.
The firmware is up to date with Gingerbread 2.3.6 (probably updated from the seller) and i can't find anything about this issue on the net or about a new limited S advance like this.
I wrote also to samsumg and the seller but no response until now.
Also Samsung Kies detect internal storage as 4 GB .
Is it possible ?? Any advice ??
Thank you so much.

Thanks for the response,
so you mean that a part of ram is system reserved (and this is reasonable) but if the system take also 50 % of the declared storage seems to be very strange.
Considering that i have 4 GB and 2 GB ROM where is the rest ?
I would like to hear another S advance owner.
So i have in real life 7,8 GB - 1.95 GB ROM is 5.9 GB remaining storage but i have only 3.9 GB effective mass storage, i can't find the other two.
Thanks again for your time.

Ok, let's say that i figured it out as follows :
USB mass storage 4 GB - 3.91 GB real
ROM memory 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
SYSTEM/USER storage 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL 8 GB - 7.81 GB real
so 8000 MB / 1024 = 7.81 GB
it is like buying a car with 8 seats but 2 can't be accessed due to engine space, 2 seats are only for the owner and his wife and the remaining seats are for the rest of the family.
The producers make always things more complex.
Thank you.

As above:
for a galaxy s advance of 8gb
USB mass storage 4 GB - 3.91 GB real
ROM memory 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
SYSTEM/USER storage 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
TOTAL 8 GB - 7.81 GB real
because 8000 MB / 1024 = 7.81 GB
-----------------------------------------------------------------
for a galaxy s advance of 16gb i figured it out as follow
USB mass storage 12 GB/1048 - 11.45 Gb real (here it might shows 11.5 Gb)
ROM memory 2 GB - 1.90 GB real
SYSTEM/USER storage 2 GB - 1.90 GB real
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL 16 GB - 15.26 GB real
Notice that i divided the first galaxy with 1024 bit and the second with 1048 bit, the reason is that each producer use a different method of calculation with a considerable difference from storage to storage.
Also consider that the GingerBread system has its internal memory divided as system/user partition and a usb mass storage partition.
I know that if you try a ICSandwich system this method is no longer used so you will have only one partition instead of two

please go to Settings - Applications - Manage applications and tell me how much memory is displayed under every tab (Downloads/All/SdStorage/active) and after this go to Info and tell me what is there (Storage Memory / System Memory).
RAM?
I have the same problem.
What about RAM? Where is the rest of it? I have only 515 RAM? See the attached picture.
And these two are the same thing.
ROM memory 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
SYSTEM/USER storage 2 GB - 1.95 GB real
Everything is ok

Ok ! the RAM is only 512 Mb because the rest is taken as shared memory for the system like processor and/or graphic or system cache.
In the attached pictures notice that the TAB "On SD card" means the internal storage of the phone and not the external storage card.
For the external storage card you must consider the other menu under settings->memory at "Storage" and also there is displayed the "USB Storage" that is the same data of "On SD card".
The misleading here is that they refer to the same data with two different names "On SD card" and "USB storage", i dont't know why but that's it.
Pratically you have to sum :
ROM memory 2 GB - 1.95 GB real (the ROM space is not displayed anywhere in the settings)
SYSTEM/USER storage 2 GB - 1.95 GB real (system storage)
USB mass storage 4 GB - 3.91 GB real (USB storage or On SD card) thi may change on the 16 GB version
After all of this there is the real EXternal SD card if you buy one.
Bye.

It's more like the car ad says "seats 3 in the rear". Your family members each weigh 600 pounds, and only 2 of them can fit in the back seat.
Drive and manufacturers specify drives in gB (g = 1 billion) because the number is larger. The rest of the industry uses GB (G = 1024 * 1024 * 1024) because computers use powers of 2. Some memory manufacturers use something in between, a unit that's the number of bytes divided by 1024.
The actual number of bytes available is the same, they just manipulate the units to make the number larger. (It's like telling you I'm giving you 1,000 "Currency Units" instead of 10 "currency units" - where "Currency Unit" = penny and "currency unit" = dollar. It's the same amount of money in either case.)
BTW, it's 8/(1.024 * 1.024 * 1.024) to go from 8gB to 7.45GB.

When my s advance was gingerbread(2.3.6) it showed me 450 to 500 somethin' mb ram but after updating it to jellybean(4.1.2) I got 670 mb ram...... There is nothing like limited s advance.
Regarding the storage space...
I have a 16 gb s advance and it shows 11.5 gb of storage space..rest is its 1.97 gb rom and remaining is used up by touchwiz(samsung's launcher)
and the system...Therefore the 8 gb model of s advance will show to around 4 gb of internal memory..
I am happy with my phone and i am currently using cyanogenmod 10.1 which makes it BEAST!!!!!!
Help needed
bro i am facing the same problem as u faced,i also rooted and also upgraded the firmware using odin but it is showing now my internal memory as 3.9 gb instead of 11.5 gb .so if u had fixed the problem for ur device plzzz help me for fixing it for mine plzzzzz

There is only like 5 gb user accessible storage out of the 8gb . Probably the apps have used the rest in your case. ( or some big hd videos)
You could get an SD card to expand the storage.
And btw, questions belong in q&a
i think u can't use any of internal storage
here is what i know how the partition is
4 GB (for apps) + 1 GB (webtop) + 3 GB (system) = 8 GB
i'm not sure about system partition
and this is for ATT ICS ..... recent JB might allow to use internal storage

The camera can store stuff on the internal memory. It is accessible. ( just don't put the SD card at all. It will be forced to use the internal memory alone) JB leak had around 6gb free on the internal memory I believe. Webtop is the culprit!

Fxz the hktw version and you can use the internal memory as an internal sdcard.. Moto officially changed the boot image to emulate an internal sdcard on /data/media. And on the jb leak that Wang posted, they have more or less removed the webtop partition.. Webtop partition is just 128kb in this. 6GB is data. In short, apps and internal Sd share that 6GB.

P1113, JB 4.2.2 Stock Rom, CWM, rooted running and no obvious system problems.
My understanding is that there is supposed to be 4.5 gb or internal storage, or /storage/emulated/0. I have an actual 600mb of items on the internal storage space. I verified this by copying all the files/folders to pc and checking the size. Root Explorer reports same folder size for /data/media.
Settings->Storage indicates that I have 4.5 gb internal storage, 2.5 gb is free and there is 2 gb not accounted for. I should have 4 gb free? I reformatted /sdcard with CWM and still have only about 2.5 gb free and not 4.5.
2.5 gb of usable internal storage seems much to low. Flashing the rom with Odin did not change this problem. On a practical basis, I cannot install a GPS navigation app because it uses >2.5 gb.
What might the problem be? How to fix?

The tablet is 8 gb and shows that in the Settings_Storage.
There must be a method or restoring the partitioning to stock, oob, sizes?
The data partition(store user-install apps and app's data) and internal SD partition(store User data like music, video, docs eg.) is ONE partition on Samsung GTab2 Tablets. So the "lost" 2G space which puzzled you are used to store the app and app's data.

With you and other's help here, I think I understand. The device is 8gb. 2 GB is for the operating system. Two GB is for apps and data. Then 4 gb remain for internal storage.
I would like to swap 4 gb storage with the 32 gb MicroSD card. I have been doing that prior to 4.2.2 running a script that changed mount points. That no longer works. I don't know how to edit fstab file that might work. In the meantime, I'll try to spend more time using the device instead of modifying it!
Hey everyone,
I bought an offbrand tablet from eBay, model name Softwinner v11 or Aystar y3 (build number says its an Astar y3, so does build.prop , "About tablet" under settings says its a Softwinner v11), running a Quad Core Allwinner A33 CPU and KitKat 4.4.2, already rooted with Kingo Root.
When I bought it, I was told it came with 16 GB of storage. As I started it up, I imediately checked the storage to check if those 16 gb where really there. On the storage screen, under settings, it showed up as having 2 internal storage, one with about 0.98 GB of space and another one with 14 GB of space. Almost the 16 GB, but that wasnt the issue.
The tablet was writing app data to the 0.98 GB internal storage, leaving me almost imediately without storage space for apps. The other 14 GB of space remained completely untouched. After further inspection, I found that the other 14GB were being used as an internal sd card, mounted at /mnt/sdcard.
Now here comes the real issue. I was messing around with it, and remenbered that I could partition my SD Card to work as internal memory. I had done this sucessfully before in my phone, so I gave it a go on the tablet, completely forgetting the fact that I had no MicroSD card on the tablet, only internal memory.
Stupid as I was, I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236566http://
After doing step 1, I realized my mistake. Storage was completely broken. In MiniTool, it was now split between 2 discs, one with a ~10Gb partition called "POLARIS", in fat32, and another with a 2GB partition, which is unallocated.
Now, under Settings - storage, I still have 2 internal storages, except the second storage is now only 428mb and completely inacessible from Windows. DiskInfo only shows System, Data, Cache and RAM, but no internal memory or SD Card.
ES File Manager shows 2 storages, one called "sdcard", with 428.06MB of space and another called "93_81" with 10.38GB of space.
In Windows, via MTP mode, the tablet shows up as v11. If I open it, there is an "Internal Storage", with 426 mb of space. Inside that is a folder called ".android_secure" and another called "93_81". Via USB Mass Storage nothing shows up.
Attempting to copy files over 428 mb to the root or to "93_81" results in a "file is too big" error.
Is there any way to fix this issue? If not, can I return it to how it was, with 1 GB + 14 GB of storage?
