I had the same issue with connecting to my laptop a few days ago, charging was fine. I tried different cables and USB sockets like you did. I tried changing the settings from charge to mtp but nothing worked. I ended up resetting my laptop, which luckily I had been thinking of doing for a few weeks. I then installed odin and drivers etc from scratch and everything's been working fine since.....fingers crossed.
Probably not the best answer you were hoping for but resetting helped me

Update- Went to Samsung said it was due to a software issue and will not reapir due to me rooting it previously. I cannot see how this would be caused by a rooting issue. I do have a custom recovery and i lost my root last week sometime to an update of some sort. Anyone have some ideas? Would be much appreciated

back everything up and try flashing the fully stock image with Odin and see if it fixes it. if it doesn't, it's not a software issue.

When i connect my phone to my pc odin will not pick it up

How about while in TWRP? does the MTP mount option make the phone show up on the PC?

[Q] Computer no longer recognizes USB

After flashing EB v2.5 I could no longer acess files via usb cord, I have since switched to Phoenixblood v1.1 with the same results. Upon searching for similar issues I have found there are many people with this same problem and cannot seem to find a resoultion, I have tried different drivers with no luck. Here are some qoutes from others with the same issue:
I love it! It's the fastest rom I've ever used! But like all other roms I flash I cant use USB mass storage . suggestions anyone?

I am having the exact same problem. It only charges. Other than that there is no other indication either from the computer or the phone that it is even plugged into the computer. Really cramping my style. I am sure I speak for you in saying anyone's help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all thanks in advance for any help. Ive been using weapon for a while now but got sick of the fc's so decided to try out eaglesblood. Ive installed it twice now and followed the instructions each time but I cant get my computer to mount my phones storage. It does make a noise when i connect it, so i know it sees my phone. And my phone gives me the option to use as mass storage but nothing happens. Any ideas? Does anyone else have problems with this?

Different USB? Sometimes they can "die."
I tried a different cable and a different computer with a different op sys
just for the sake of troubleshooting, can you take a screenshot of your device manager before and after you plug it in? I had my phone randomly do something similar, but I just wiped my system and reinstalled the drivers and all was fine, different problem than yours but any information you can give us is helpful.
happened to me... what i did was turn on usb debugging with the usb storage and apparently it work...
I noticed I couldn't mount USB mass storage on CM7 or clockwork recovery....using multiple computers. I fixed this by installing the LG USB drivers on my desktop....I've had no issues since. Though I had previously tried the same thing with my laptop and it didn't work.
If turning USB debugging off then on doesn't work I reinstall the drivers. Its happened to me once or twice and that seems to do the trick.

A bit of an emergency...

Hey there, guys and gals,
I'm having a bit of an issue here, and it's somewhat serious.
The issue is as follows. I have Android 5.0.1 on my Nexus 5. When I connect my computer to my laptop... nothing.
Nothing at all. It doesn't show up in device manager, not even as unknown. Fastboot doesn't detect it, nor does ADB. I can't do anything, and it's scaring me. I don't know how I could have broken it, but I need to know how to fix it.
I'm happy to do whatever to get it working, so please help...
Update: Tried to factory reset, to see if it would fix the issue. It's stuck "Erasing...", and won't go further. I'm afraid my phone may be hard-bricked... Is it possible to reflash these using JTAG, and if so is there anyone that can assist with that process?

Is it stock or what? are you rooted?
Also , keep in mind that the factory reset can take up to 30 minutes.
IMO it sounds like a busted cable/usb port on either side / incorrect drivers.
Edit : JTAG is not possible on our devices , access is locked from the chipset itself.
Are u on Windows 8.1 if so I had a problem with Windows thinking that my phone was a acer and I had to go the driver settings and manually tell it that it was a ADB USB connection then it would connect fine also could be USB cable I found the nexus 5 to be very picky about cables
Sometimes I get that but it solves by going into dev and checking and unchecking usb debugg, but sounds more like a busted usb plug
Have you considered that you may be using incorrect drivers on your PC? This issue can be caused by having improperly installed drivers.

Right. I'll address you all at once for ease.
Firstly, the USB connector functions fine. My USB-OTG cable still allows me to access files on a flash drive.
Secondly, drivers can't be an issue in this case. It won't even enumerate the device in device manager. As if the phone simply isn't plugged in.
Thirdly, Win8 isn't the issue, as I"ve had this phone connected to this computer many, /many/ times.
So it must be a problem within Android 5.0.1
But here's the problem. In order to install anything else, I'd have to install a recovery. In order to that, I need root. In order to root, I need USB. I'm lost, guys...
I just had an idea does towel root work on 5.0 if so u could try that?

Hmm... That might work. I'll take a look. But if it succeeds, then something gets broken later in the process, this thing is a paperweight, right?
Edit: According to http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...29-rooting-nexus-5-towelroot.html#post4125236 Towelroot will never be possible on Lollipop. I didn't go much further than that though...
Ya I just read that to bummer
Edit: as of now there is no way to root without pc sounds like u may have some sort of hardware failure I'm guessing only way to fix is to send it in and that's 150 bucks min

Well... This happened when I updated via OTA (after reinstalling the stock recovery) to 5.0.1 after 5.0. I did this all over USB. Immediately thereafter, it quit. I got it to boot, btw. The erasing problem fixed itself, and it's now running, but the USB is still stuffed. This is sounding more like software than hardware. Almost as if whatever chip talks via USB lost it's own firmware somehow.
Cable or driver 95% sure. Did you try connecting it to a windows 7 /linux pc ? And ... u can never be sure but try connecting to a usb2.0 port. I had those issues when I accidentally plugged my cable in my frontal panel ( usb3.0)
A few months ago I had the same problem, my phone got not recognized by adb or fastboot. I played around a whole day with drivers and stuff like that. At the end I found a post on the internet describing that not all USB cables are able to do adb connections and I should try the original USB cable that came with my Nexus 5. So I looked for that particular cable and hey presto it worked right away.
And 2$ usb cables do break over time. They might still charge , but one cold solder joint and no connection

So you are correct. I didn't see that in your post, my bad.
Have you tried with another cable maybe?
Make sure you have either MTP or PTP checked in Settings/Storage/USB computer connection.

I've tried multiple cables. I KNOW that this cable is fine for ADB, because it works fine for my other devices. All of them. I may be marked a newbie on the forums, but I'm really not one. When I first signed up for this account I was, but that was in what... '07?
I've tried:
Drivers (Obviously won't work.)
Cables
Rebooting
Factory Reset
Different Computers
Linux
Windows
Switching USB connection modes
Toggling Dev Mode/Debugging on/off
Nothing works. It HAS to be a software issue on the phone. I don't think anyone read it, but it's almost as if the IC that handles USB connections has lost it's firmware. I don't think that can happen, honestly, so it must be whatever's in the ROM that TALKS to that IC that's causing the issue. Problem is, I don't know how to fix the ROM without USB connection and Fastboot.

Its unlikely that the ROM will be the cause if the USB port suddenly stops working.
Do you have a custom recovery?
If not, then not much you can do except send it in for repair/replacement.

Rooted, can't connect to pc now.

Anyone run into any issues not being able to connect phone to pc?
I rooted a couple days ago with pingpong, all was fine after including being able to connect, didnt do anything else, now pc wont recognize device, I've tried uninstall/reinstall drivers, diff usb cable, diff usb port, factory reset, still no go, unfortunately I don't have another pc to test it on but I'm out of ideas?

Had to get it exchanged...ugh what a pita that was....makes me cautious of rooting again, never bricked one and I've been doing it since the htc hero lol
What were you doing when it hard bricked?

just an update, after trying to go back to stock via odin, of course it messed up during due to these problems. I finally got it to restore with odin, but i had to go to someone's house to use a different computer(old win xp,upgraded to 7 computer). Anyway i got it restored, thank God, but i was still having trouble with it connecting...switched from my poem cable to an off brand i bought at best buy and been working fine.
Was trying to factory reset because I was getting a usb device not recognized, reset failed on reboot.
Tried diff pc/cable like other user, had no such luck with several different pc's etc.
What about it Odin mode?

Cannot adb into device from pc, charging slow draining fast help

My NEXUS 5 just recently starting giving me issues, battery draining about 15% per hour (without use) takes about 4 hours to charge and I cannot adb into device (computer does not see it at all) ive tried multiple cables and I have the original charger plus many after market chargers in good working order. I can get into TWRP and flash roms but no matter what i do results are the same. (marshmallow rom currently) could my usb port be suspect?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks in advance

ADB or Fastboot? If your phone is on and booted up and you are trying to run ADB commands, click on the notification that tells you what mode you are in. I think by default it is in charging only mode. Tap to change modes and select PTP. I think that's what it is. Then your computer should see it.
Probably a driver problem. Have you changed laptop/OS recently? Try installing on your PC Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolhit and following the instructions in Install and Test Drivers - the long button top right.

Doesn't see it in MTP, PTP or charging mode, it use to in both, not a driver issue either. I have 3 other Nexus 5's and 2 nexus 7's in the house I've done flashing both via ADB through windows and with TWRP there is definitely an issue I just can't figure it out

Yes, tried on multiple computers, multiple USB ports and USB cables. Any chance of a "bad flash" I unroofed, upgraded to latest 6.01 and re-rooted everything seemed fine? No drops to phone or anything out of the ordinary other than the upgrade

From the sound of it seems like your USB port is dead.
I have that warning with my HTC 10 prerootet rom.
But only if I have adb active in engineersettings.

HTC recognition via USB on PC

Hi there.
I have an U11 now and I am quite happy with it.
But there is one problem.
It takes ages till I see the U11 appearing on the PC. USB debugging is on, data transfer chose at the U11, tried several USB connections on the PC tried even another laptop.
Sometimes it is even not showing the phone.
Are here people around who are facing the same problem?
Any solutions?
Thx a lot.
Schuertzi
Yeap exactly the same...
No problem here, each new usb port you connect to loads the drivers and takes a few seconds but after that connection is fast.
Thing that has me peeved is the lack of OTG support. I like to backup straight to an external HDD. No go with the U11.
Tried and waited really long after the drivers were installed. Nothing changed really. Even with using the same USB connection.
May be I did something wrong during flashing TWRP and then the Viper ROM.
Will check and let you know.
Thx
Sxhuertzi
I had the same issue even though i didnt root. I tried on multiple pcs and still got a message saying usb device not recognized. So i returned it and ordered the solar red. I should receive it today and I'll let you know if I still get the same result.
Great, just let us know.
Thx
Hi Guys,
I solved my problem.
I had first the wrong TWRP installed then deleted. Tried then again to install via fastboot. Was not possible.
Then, I installed the official TWRP app from the playstore. Installed the actual TWRP from there. And voila, TWRP installed, rebooted and everything works.
Just for your info. May be you have similar problem.
Schuertzi.
So i definitely had a defective device as this new one connects without any issue.

I can use external HDD and pendrives. In fact, the u11 recognises NTFS even.
