Help! Very poor battery life - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I would like to discuss regarding my Z5 dual battery life. I am a regular user. I already removed Facebook. All apps are greenified, no sync settings, just FB messenger and Viber. I never leave my bluetooth open, or location, nfc.
I noticed my phone doesnt sleep, it's always awake. Android System consumes most of the battery. With just 2-3 hrs screen time. Can someone give me an idea or solution to this?
I am on stock, rooted, locked bootloader Marshmallow. With Xperia X system UI. I already miss my Z2 amazing battery life.

Wi-Fi is always on, what setting is it on in the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep?

Keep awake 15h 03m 36s (with only ~2h or screen on time) = Something is preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
I've had a similar problem in the past and, in my case, the culprit was "Google Backup & restore" under "Backup & reset" in Settings. I disabled it, rebooter and re-enabled it. Problem gone.
It could be totally different in your case (I don't know what you're using) but if you're rooted, I'd suggest you to install BetterBatteryStats to determine what is keeping your device awake

Yes I keep wifi on during sleep, but i never had this kind of drain in my previous Z2. I recently got this Z5, like 3 weeks ago. Im starting to miss Stamina Modr, that was way better than doze.

Excessive Battery Drain on Airplane Mode

My Infuse 4G is always on Airplane Mode with Wifi turned on. I use it as a secondary device and like an iPod Touch/Media Player. However, even if Airplane Mode is on, the number one drainer of battery is Cell Standby at like 60-70%. Also, the phone never enters deep sleep and Android OS constantly keeps the device awake. As a result, from a 100%, the phone is dead within 8 hours. There has got to be some sort of fix for this. I'm running the latest Beanstalk 4.4.285.
P.S. I have entered AppOpps and denied the permissions to wake up and stay awake to the following apps: Google Search, Google Play Services and Android System.

Try rebooting. A custom launcher may be a culprit! Apex Nova Go are reliable! Do a clean flash again!
There must be an app which is running in background! Try deleting a recently installed app, try clearing cache of google+. Try uninstalling anti viruses which are useless in a phone. Install an app called Greenify in Play Store. Greenify most of your installed apps with it. It really boost battery life.
Change governor in performance to either Interactive or OnDemand.
And if you want, go into phone info (by dialing *#*#4636*#*#) scroll down to the button that says turn radio off, and that keeps the cell radio off.

Some apps are not properly closed out when you exited it. I had to force close some of them. Not sure if this is happening with other people. Go into: Settings > Applications > Manage applications or Running services open apps that you recently open/closed. If Force stop light up it mean the app still running. I'm aware that some apps remain running due to user setup for it to check for update. The app I'm referring to shouldn't since update is turned off or in manual update mode.

I have pretty much run out of options. I have no idea why my battery drains even in airplane mode. Supposedly it is because of "cell standby".
EDIT: If I can solve this issue, I can put my Infuse to good use again. Unfortunately, I can't use a phone for anything if its battery dies in 8 hours while idling in airplane mode.

Same here~ i just bought an 3.7V 3500mAh Li-ion extended battery off of amazon for under $10 and since the original is 1750 mAh battery im hoping it is going to do some noticable good. Nonetheless, the problem still remains so please if you (or anyone) should discover any breakthroughs than SHARE with us too... please! Thank you kindly <3
Try rebooting, it will help. Try force stop and disable the both "Google Search" apps in app manager (first maybe called "Google App" if you updated it). Guys please keep me updated with this because I'm so confused. It is so stupid and without any kind of tiny logic for the battery drain on AIRPLANE mode that turns off all radios and waves............

"Android System" keeping phone awake 24/7, draining battery life- T-Mobile Z3
I startes noticing that even after quite a few charge cycles, I'm still getting 4-5 hours of SoT over less than 24 hours. The phone is awake 24/7, and Android System seems to be the cause, but no idea why. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've attached some screenshots.
Factory reset?

Maybe you have some apps causing wakelocks, showing through Android system? My dad had massive data usage from Youtube which confused me until I uninstalled an app that used YouTube.
Yes something that you have installed is causing the Android System to run for extended periods.
I would first try, disabling some apps in the settings menu, to see if that helps. (like throw, bluetooth, NFC, wifi, hotspot) see if any of those help
I would factory reset, and be very careful about what you install back onto the phone initially.
Or instead of reset try, clearing out all apps and re-install one by one untill you hit a bad one. If that does not work I guess reset.

In Settings>Power Management, there is a selection called "App power consumption". Have you checked there? There could be an app listed that drains the battery.
I had checked app power consumption, and unfortunately it didn't give me any further information. Better Battery Stats is also almost completely useless without root, but I did try it and saw Performance Manager or something to that effect was what was keeping it awake (in Kernel Wakelocks). I ended up doing a factory reset, and it seems like it's working fine now with the same combination of apps.
I think I disabled something I shouldn't have using pm block (package), since after some searching it seems like the phone might have been constantly searching for a blocked package, keeping it awake. It's working fine now, thanks everyone for your suggestions!

what on earth is keeping my phone awake? wakelock detector screenshots included.

I recently installed wakelock detector to help me save battery life with greenify. Looking at what it says it seems my phone never goes into deep sleep. This screenshot only shows the past hour and a half as before that I greenified things that looked like it might be causing the problem, but it looks the same now as it did before, 0.0 of deep sleep no matter how long I leave it, but none of the listed wakelocks seem to be that long, so I can't figure out why my phone wouldn't be deep sleeping.
Its a rooted Sony Xperia e4 running 4.4.4
Any thoughts?
You should also check Settings -> Battery -> tap on battery graph to open History details. There can be some dependencies between 'Awake' data and other data. Or you can post the screenshot of it here.
Hi, Sorry it took so long for me to respond, I was hoping to get a screenshot from a period where I hadn't touched my phone for longer but I kept forgetting at night time. I notice this time it actually says my screen has been on the whole time (though I never used it in this period at all, and when I picked it up the screen was off) So I have also included a screenshot of the screen wakelock page. Frustratingly, a lot of the things on the cpu wakelock page are already greenified and I manually hibernated them before turning the screen off, so not sure why they are still causing issues.
Either way, none of it adds up to the time awake
I posted a reply on this earlier but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, I installed betterbatterystats and it showed that *backup* was keeping my phone from sleeping.
Google suggests it isn't altogether unconmon, and following some instructions I found I disabled back up, cleaeed dalvik cache and enabled back up again
So far its worked brilliantly, hopefully it stays that way.
Just an update on case anyone googkes and reads my solution above, it didn't work. Restarting my phone makes it go away for a little while and my phone gets plenty of deep sleep even in only a short space of time, but then *backup* comes back and its all over again. I can't keep restarting my phone every couple of hours. Maybe turning backuo off permanently will help, but then I have no backups, so hardly av good solution.
Hi,
*backup* is a wakelock from Google's Backup service. Wakelocks are so crazy because it regularly backups your data (such as Contacts, your Play Games' progresses, WiFi passwords, app data, etc) to Google's server. Disabling this equals to no longer having up-to-date backups.
You could actually disable the automatic backup, but make sure you backup your data periodically.
It's better for me to use BBS instead for checking for wakelocks.

Yes I've found BBS better to, never would have found the problem otherwise. I turned off back up maybe 13 hours ago and so far so good. Not the ideal solution though eh. Hopefully google will fix it soon

[Fixed] Standby battery drain

Hello everyone!
So this thread is for those guys that are still having the standby drain even after trying everything and got no help.
My Device Is not RootedSince last 2 weeks my device was having super standby drain and I couldn't help that.
First I thought that it was due to the battery wearing out. But I had this phone(exynos version) for around eight months and that is not enough time for the battery to drain out fast. So I started looking for the fixes in the xda threads but none of them had a mass effect on what i was suffering from.
Then I read about that app named the "Better Battery Stats".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats&hl=en
I used this app to monitor the usage that was being done by different apps.
Most of the battery i.e 61% was being consumed by the apps that were running in the background. And the second big consumer was the android system. So as was mentioned in most of the posts what I tried.
1) Settings> Display> Resolution> Fhd to hd
2)Settings> Device Maintenance> Battery> Save Power and All apps put into always sleeping apps.
3)Setting> Connections> Location> Google Locaation History and disabled it.
4)AOD Disabled.
5)Sync Disabled.
6)Wifi> Advenced> Keep wifi turned on while sleep and set it to never.
7) Reset> Reset network settings
8) Boot into recovery and wipe cache patition
9) Reset factory data(Wipe everything).
And after doing all these steps nothing much changed my battery life since when i after resetting my phone again updated all apps from play store and resetting battery got an SOT of around 3 hours.
Then I again started searching for the problem.
I installed the accuBattery app from play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery&hl=en
And saw that phone was not entering deep sleep for hours that was causing the standby drain!
The major reasons for the drain were.
1) TOUCHWIZ HOME!
2) Google Chrome.
3) Facebook app.
To fix that I applied Lawnchair as my default launcher.
set the theme to dark. Disabled the location permission in the facebook app. And disabled google chrome.
Other settings that also helped were
Change the resolution to hd. Disable google location history.
And boom.... It worked Like a Charm....
Now to add an extra something to the battery life i switch to MID Power Saving mode. That Also helps alot when phone is not being used as it stops background data usage by apps.
Now the average sot that i get from my phone is around 6 to 7 hours.
And the phone sleeps like a baby. 5% Drain in 10h and wifi was on for the whole night. Deep sleep for 9h 41m.
PS: I use most of the time my phone for gaming and heavy usage.
Hope this will work for you guys too.
Screenshots Are attached for the proof!!
Thanks for this man
How are your notifications? I'm having a lot of trouble with delayed notifications, emails/messenger/etc just wake up when I take the phone and I don't even have to wait more than 5-10mins for what seems to be doze to kill everything.
I get whatsapp calls that I miss because the phone never receives it.
And STILL my battery life is far from great.. borderline bad I'd say. So sad
In settings go to device maintenance and hit battery you'll see an option for "always sleeping apps" enter any apps you don't want to run in the bsckground, which will probably be most of them. Saves a lot of data and a lot of battery.

Battery Drain Diagnosing

I have had a battery drain for several weeks now. It isn't to severe but the biggest issue bothering me the most is at night it is draining about 5-6% even with battery saver turned on. It used to be that in normal mode, the battery would only drop 2-3% over night. I do not charge at night.
I am fully updated and I even reset the phone to factory 2 days ago and the issue still persists. Nothing seems to stand out in the battery stats with regards to apps sucking battery %. So I think this is an issue where it is not going into Doze or Deep Doze but I dont know how to determine that.
Any suggestions how to find the problem?
(on android 10)
When you wake up in the morning...
Go into "Settings"
Then "Battery"
Then click the top right three dots
Then select "Battery Usage"
It should show you which apps used the most battery during the night.

I have done that. No apps appear to be doing anything unusual. There are no battery hogs showing up. Not even excessive google services usage or anything. That is why I think this may be a situation where it isn't going into doze or deep doze like it used to but I dont know how to check or monitor that. that info doesn't show in battery stats.
I never heard of this doze/deep doze mode - where did you see this?
I ask because I typically get 10% loss overnight with what I thought was very good because the pixel often then calculates I have 2 days of remaining battery life with that stat.

You can google it as there are tons of articles about it but here is some insight into it from the developer side: https://bignerdranch.com/blog/diving-into-doze-mode-for-developers/
OK, so it says in order to go into deep-doze, the phone:
1) Must not be charging
2) The screen is off
3) The phone is not moving
So, during the night, are all three of these conditions met?
Also, the device will come out of deep-doze if an incoming push notification is received - could one of your apps be receiving push notifications during the night?
Also, "Any process using a foreground service is exempt from Doze Mode effects, which is key for long-running applications"...do you possibly have any apps that have a foreground service?
Have you tried to switch off Bluetooth, it has a huge impact on battery even if not in use.
I've used apps before. Can't remember but gsam might be one...
It's possible to identify apps that are holding wake locks. That's the first place to check for battery drain.

all the apps I can find to track wake locks seem to need ROOT. I'd rather not do that as then I lose OTA updates.
After some extreme disabling of user app, system apps, services, etc. I finally got back to 3% battery drop overnight. I'm not sure which one was the culprit yet but i'll start enabling things as I need them and keep monitoring.
I'm having heavy battery drain. I already charged to 100 and less to 30 minutes i lost 10%.
It began since last update on my case.
After you see a big drain, DON'T plug in and...
Go into "Settings"
Then "Battery"
Then click the top right three dots
Then select "Battery Usage"
It should show you which apps are to blame for the drain.

Gsam needs permissions but these can be set with USB debugging, no root needed.
So one thing I have learned is that it appears every time I reboot, gsam thinks my wifi is on even though I have it off. If i turn it on and then back off. Gsam now says wifi is off.
So i got through the night at 3% battery drain but now I am realizing that my phone will not go into deep sleep during the day. Any suggestions how to fix that?
According to the details in the link posted earlier, it will never go into deep sleep if the phone is moving.

I leave my phone sitting on a desk all day. There has to be some Android services that only operate during the day but i can't dtermine what those might be.

Was gsam able to identify which app was holding a wake lock?
Or maybe triggering frequent wakeups?
Both of those would prevent doze...
Battery Guru is good for chasing drains (with ADBs), add BBS + adbs and you can find anything using them together!

Google play services mostly. There was a large amount from "Adaptive connectiviy" but when I disabled that those went away.
