need advise fixing my galaxy tab - General Questions and Answers

Hey all. I had recently rooted my galaxy tab a sm-t550. I deleted one too many stock apps. Afterwards i tried flashing the stock rom with odin. It crashed. So then i used Keis to update and it installed the same version of android on there. Now, its very glitchy. It runs considerably slower and the home key hardly works. I have to hit home key like 3 times and often it delays and goes to a black screen before finally going to home screen. I really want to restore my device to the way it was when new. I hear android marshmellow is coming out soon for my tablet. Hopefully with an upgrade from with keis at that point, it will run alot better with marshmellow. Any advise on what i can do to restore my tablets performance?

After you flashed stock, did you boot to stock recovery to clear cache partition and factory reset then reboot?

i think so. maybe, maybe not. I just downloaded the stock rom with from the Internet and used Odin to flash it. Afterwards, it wouldnt start up. So then i plugged it into Keis and clicked update. It installed Android 5.0, the same as the original, buts its really glitchy and slow. I wanna be able to do like a computer, delete the harddrive and reinstall everything new; reformat or whatever. Cant sand the glitchy, slow device

How about doing it just to be sure instead of giving me a "I think so".
Boot to recovery and factory reset then wipe cache.
Then flash stock via Odin again, it formats the partitions it writes to as it flashes.

OK, i reset factory, wiped cache., did that twice, flashed firmware with odin and i still get the same stuff. In fact, its worse. Now on top of the super slow, unresponsive, glitchy device, the home launcher eventually crashes and goes to a black screen. words can only describe so much so i made a video to show what its doing.

This may seem a bit aggravating and repetitive but did you also factory reset and clear cache after restoring stock this time?
The purpose of doing that before flashing was to clear any junk that may have caused an issue with Odin, then after flashing stock it is sometimes necessary to again factory reset and wipe cache after restoring, try the reset in recovery and wipe cache again.
Then if that doesn't get you fixed we can start troubleshooting from a clean starting point.

yeap. Just wiped cache and reset factory again and still acting the same.. One more shot with Keis i guess. Kinda loosing hope thou. Any idea why its acting this way?

Dude whoah, check this out. So i reformatted with keis, same problem blah blah blah. I decided to try and put the firmware on the SD card and install thru ADB sd card thing in recovery. Well, cant seem to read the SD card. Thought it was software issues. So i put the SD card in my phone to load software via phone to SD card and then my computer quits reading my phone. Phone says "reading SD Card. checking for errors". I then realize that my tablet isnt glitching anymore. Put SD card back in tablet and tablet starts glitching again. Somehow this corrupt SD card is causing all the glitching. Cant read the card and IDK whats going on. Tossed it. Can anyone explain this? Possibly a virus?

[Q] Can't mount... problem.

Hi.
I don't know much about details about root/room/recovery, but know some about
ODIN, CWM and other ROM to use.
I've been using Humble 5.0 for a while and my phone got unstable recently, so I ODIN the same Humble rom again, but that is how the problem started.
The main problem is, I can't wipe userdata or cache at all.
CWM says it wiped, but I always get Force close, so many that I can't even use the phone normally.
I tried to go back to stock ROM or any other, but all failed.
Stock ROM with stock recovery says, E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (Invalid argument). and most of the time, Bootloops.
Humble is the only option I can go into, and actually use the phone, but it has all the apps and data from the past, even though I wipe data/cache thousand times.
I even erased all SD data, formatted in FAT32, and nothing works.
Finalizing my status,
Can't mount...error with Stock ROM.
Bootloop with other ROM.
Constant Force Close with Humble 5.0 (Can't wipe data/cache).
Please help.
So stock, you used ODIN EE4 and PIT file to go back to stock and took the newest update and still have problems?
Thank you for the reply.
Yes. I tried ED1 and EE4, and even with PIT(repartition) and I get "Can't mount..." error.
I went back to Humble 5.0 which has all kind of force close (still showing all app names I had, mysterious), and formatted SD, factory reset, and tried ODIN ED1/PIT, but result is same.
I have a feeling my internal SD partition got screwed.
I am no pro myself.. But I am running GummyCharge Froyo 2.0 which comes with Imoseyon's Kernel and its rock stable even overclocked to 1,200 mhz for me.. You may want to try getting a copy of that as well as flashing with your SIM Card out and Battery in after booting into recovery.. Let me know if this helps at all!

I had a similar problem but dont remember what I did to fix lol like that helps you. Did you format your sd card on a computer or with your phone? If not try using an adapter and format on computer. Going back to stock has always solved my problems. There is a new cwm that came out. Just throwing stuff out there. Have you tried re downloading images of the stock ee4 and pit? It is loading so shouldnt be a problem , hmm. Maybe someone with more knowledge will pop in.
I tried GummyCharge 2.0.zip from SD but it didn't help.
I tried CWM 5.0, with many ROMs to wipe cache/data, no use.
I formatted my SD on PC, and from phone, same result.
What I don't understand is, even after I flashed Humble 5.0 ROM which I used right before, and only ROM it works now, it shows all apps I had even after many times of Wipe Data/cache/dalvic.
Even funnier, I delete some apps causing Force Close, and I reboot my phone, it always goes back to where I start. Same Home, the app is still there.
It is just weird.
Im getting FC now all of a sudden. It's you fault damn it lol. Said I was gonna reload anyhow. Just didnt want to do it twice in one night. Oh it is past 12pm so I guess it is another day.
It's been now 3 days, and I found this thread hopelessly.
Same problem I think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191650&page=2
I hope somebody can help me fix it.
Now I can't even flash Humble, can't even get through recovery(stock or CWM).
I can't do anything now.
I will Odin back to stock and take it to the verizon tomorrow.
Thank you all of you for the help.
Tried a different usb cable, how did you flash the new cwm? So everytime it says pass through ODIN? Are you checking the right selections through ODIN and using PDA? Man just trying to think of everything and thats about it. Get another phone lol. Superuser and busybox?
I tried different USB cable, PC, installed Samsung driver again.
I took the phone to Verizon today, and they can't hard reset it either at that place.
I dropped the phone 3 month ago and it has a little dent, so that they refuse to repair it under warranty. I am sending it to MobileTechVideo tomorrow.
Thank you.
I'm having the same issues. I was on Humble 5.0 and had been using it without a problem for about 2 weeks and yesterday I noticed my phone reboot on it's own. After the reboot it was stuck in the boot loop. I've also tried reflashing Humble 5.0, tried the instructions on the fix your phone thread, tried flashing to stock and also tried the all in one Gingerbread 2.3.6 W/Root/CWR/IMO Kernel 4.0 to see if CWM would help any.
All successfully pass according to Odin, but they all still boot loop and all give error messages in their recovery modes if I try to do anything involving /cache or /data stating that they fail to mount.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, I started this thread with the issue of not being able to root. I bit the bullet and wiped it all and ended up being able to root. Now I have a much bigger issue... My phone wont go into storage mode. Not in the OS, not in CWM, not in download mode. It just can't be recognized by a computer. Yes I have the drivers installed, and the phone knows it's plugged in, it will charge and everything, it just wont give me the option to go into storage mode. This will be an issue if I ever need to flash it for any reason since download mode can't be recognized in ODIN. It was working a day ago... Think it's a hardware issue?

Storage mode and download mode are different to me atleast.
Have you tried settings/usb settings/ask on connection.
When you connect your usb cable from your computer to your phone it should beep and then ask what you want to do. Is your sd card good? Have you checked it maybe on your computer with an adapter?
Or are you talking about getting into ODIN?
Have you usb cable connected to the main usb port. Pull the battery, put it back in, connect the usb cable , hold the volume down button and power key. Worked every time for me. Not sure what else to say from me atleast. Someone else might chime in. Ive done it both with the battery and with out. Try a different usb port.

If you have the charge pit file and EE4 you should be able to wipe everything on your phone. If I am correct, this bypasses all permissions and partitions and basically supercedes any roms or data you have. This should work. try another cable on a different usb port or another computer. I have hard brocked my phone numerous times and this was the only workable method. (if you want you can do a little solder job and have phone by fixed with the unbrickable mod here
I already sent my phone to the repair shop.
Btw, it is the normal case you described, but I tried different PCs, drivers, cables, USB slot, nothing works.
Thank you anyway.

Tried it with 2 different computers, different cables, different ports. Ask on connection is on. The SD card works fine when I put in in an adapter. The phone just doesn't data connect via usb. ODIN can't find it. Nothing. Pretty sure this is a hardware issue...
My phone just got back from the repair shop and they say they can't fix it. They think NAND got corrupted. Now I am really stuck...Man...

[Q] Well, looks like I have hit a "brick" wall. Any suggestions?

Like most of the users here, my phone has been buttery smooth and fast for awhile thanks to our amazing devs. Today, something unexpected happened. I was attempting to get a screenshot of the lockscreen. I think I was successful, but when I checked the gallery, everything had corrupted icons on them. Ok, I will just reboot. Reboot, and I hear Linda speaking to me. I didn't catch it, but I know it had something to do with the SD card. 5 minutes later, my phone boots up and my card is nowhere to be found. I figure the whole card somehow got corrupted.
Now I originally started typing this because it looked like my phone wasn't going to boot past the galaxy S 4g logo, but after about 5 minutes it did. Now with the phone booted, my phone can't see the card at all. The only thing that comes up is the option to mount, but that doesn't work at all anymore. The previous time I restarted it before it hung at the boot logo, it showed up in my computer and opened to nothing and ended up freezing the computer for a second until I shut it down.
I need to format this card obviously, but can't see how I am going to do that if it isn't recognized. On top of that, I might as well use this as an excuse to reflash a new rom, but I have even more problems. None of my button combos work to get into recovery or download at all. I then figured I would use terminal emulator to get into it, as that has worked before, but the app won't install due to an "invalid package file" or something like that. I appear to be stuck in a very weird soft brick, and need some help.
Might have made some progress. I removed the sd card and installed terminal emulator on the phone. Hopefully it is going to reboot into recovery, but it is stuck at the boot screen again. Ill see in a few minutes if it makes it there. From there I can start trying to restore/wipe/format/etc...
Was able to get into recovery. Did a factory reset and wiped everything. Looks like it is still going to take more than 5 minutes to get past that boot screen though. Has anyone ever had this problem? Could my card be done for good? Unless I can find a way for my computer to recognize it, I don't know how I will format it.
I have seen them do this and in the end the card needed to be replaced. I haven't been able to figure out if it was the phone or the card but the ones I have seen like this I ended up flashing the software again from the factory flashing tool and the new card worked normally. If you need the factory flashing tool I can upload it but not til Tuesday when I go back to work. Let me know.

If you have a card reader for your PC, download one of the Live distributions (Fedora, SuSE, Ubuntu, etc.) and, if you card is viable, you should be able to read the ext4 filesystem on it, get the files off, then format it to vfat.

I can still get the card to show up in my computer, but it will crash when I try and open it up. Ill see what formatting does in this state, but it guess I will just have to get a new card if I can't get this one working again.

Thanks for the replies guys. Luckily, I didn't have anything that important on my card other than a few pictures, so it didn't turn out too bad. Ill be upgrading to the galaxy note in a few weeks anyway, so I don't really mind.

[Q] Can't get pass Splash screen Help Please

I've been searching for 3 days now, and everything I've found has not worked. I am using twrp, and have tried flashing three different roms. Everything in fastboot and twrp runs fine, but as soon as I get to the asus boot screen (I've seen it to be called the circle/ring of death) it freezes, then reboots. I've tried re flashing back to stock rom, upgrading firmware/ downgrading firmware, different twrp versions, stock recovery, hitting my head on the tablet. I don't know what else to do.
My tablet was version 4.2.1 I used the boot unlocker v_8. Tablet was rooted and working for one day, then over night this began.
If someone could please point me in the right direction, or is this just a case of my tablet being done for?

Do you have valuable data on the tab? If yes, I'd suggest you copy them off your internal storage to your external Sd card with TWRP, then erase everything per buster99's script (search for the name); flash stock rom via fastboot. You don't need to reset the tab by poking the hole since you apparently can get to fastboot without issue.
DO NOT touch the wipe data icon on the boot screen! Do everything with TWRP only. If you choose to do it via SD card, remove the card before rebooting to see what happens. It has occurred to me that leaving the card inside might cause problems. Good luck.

I copied anything I wanted saved, but I did not do a legitimate backup of software files.
I have pressed the wipe data icon on the boot screen under the confusment of the many different posts. What step does that leave me at?
EDIT:
So crazy Buster99 fastboot flash did it. Sucks because I tried that before but I guess I may have missed one line of the reflashing script. Well thanks, after three days I've finally been put in the right direction.
Seems like that pesky /misc partition is causing problems. Glad you got it sorted out though.

Confused, not sure what to call this problem

So today i decided to change my stock recovery into TWRP. Somehow managed to come across a one-click twrp installer.
After i tried that, everything went downhill. Tried to wipe cache/ dalvik to try out faux kernel.
it just stood at formatting cache for a long time and didn't budge.
after 15 mins or so, i held on the power button and restarted my phone that way.
Now nothing seems to work, no service, google play crashing, and more importantly my storage isn't being detected so i can't even push files around.
Whats something i can do? im confused and stressed its 4am here

I would recommend to flash the stock image to get the phone running again and not use toolkits anymore.
Look here for how to flash a factory image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701.

You'd probably do best to start from the top by reflashing the stock image... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
This time don't use any toolkits or canned scripts, learn how to do each step by yourself, get familiar with all the commands, and do it yourself. You're less likely to screw anything up that way.

I had the exactly same situation before. What I did was a factory reset by using the wiping function in TWRP, Then you get a freshly-new system. Hopefully you have backed up your data.
Guys stop flashing the cache it really isn't needed and causes issues... I haven't done it since Android 4.3 and not had one problem

[HELP] Bricked?? Samsung Note GT-N8013

Hey Everyone. First of all I would like to say that I've had this device for about a year and a half, but it bricked? on me in only 4 months. I've tried countless methods to fix it but no go. Then as time went on I completely forgot about it. Now I don't have my sd card that I used for it any more.
The problem? One day I accidentally forgot to charge my tablet and it died on me, so I charged it right back up and turned it on. Everything went well, I got through the logo screen and everything, but then it just hangs there right before I hit the Home screen where you can do your code and everything.
Methods I've attempted:
I've tried going through CWM recovery to fix the issue but then I notice that it says near the bottom as it loads "E: Can't open/cache/recovery/log" and it has the same "E: Can't open/..." for everything. Can't mount, wipe cache, wipe data, restore, I have no backup (stupid right), can't do anything. Also, when I do attempt to wipe data through CWM I notice "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0" if that has any special meaning.
I've tried flashing stock firmware through odin multiple times on different usb ports and different computers.
I've tried flashing PIT file (I'm not really sure if thats how you're supposed to do it but yea, I flashed the PIT file through odin by itself and with stock firmware)
Misc. Info: I did have a custom ROM installed(can't really remember which one), I also have the app2sd installed, the only thing that struck out to me when my tablet went out is that it received an OTA update for 4.1.2? and for some reason it went through even though I never intended to update.
I'm really, REALLY, open to any suggestion that could possibly help fix this tablet. On the other hand if the cold hard truth is that its gone forever or that I simply just have to take it back to Samsung (which I highly doubt I'll be able to), then please by all means let me know.
THANK YOU!!!
Bump
Help Please
Did you try flashing a different recovery again. CWM? Also after installing stock through odin try a factory wipe. It would probably help to know what your last rom was.
