Ever since one of the last OTA's i get a popup bubble in corner of screen on the kb that annoys the bloody hell out of me... makes me accidentally switch keyboards constantly and gets in my way...
if there is already text in the box (such as a draft) then its "select Select All input method"
why would they think anyone would need that popup EVERYTIME THE USE THE APP?
Anyone else annoyed by it (If i switch from stock text app it doesnt do it... but i like simplicity and even though it sucks really I still prefer it to most 3rd party apps (i have had too many issues with not being able to send MMS via 3rd party apps)
Anyone got a fix?
Check out this thread: [LINK]
Simply found it using Google.
Cheers,
bemolx

When I send a text I usually press the home key after pressing send but I've noticed that when I go back to send another text the app shows an unread message to the person I sent the first message to! Im on the default messaging app but I don't use HTC Sense.
Anyone else noticed this? If not I'll try a factory reset.
same here, but only happens if u leave msg app too soon
I've noticed this too, it's pretty annoying. One of several bugs in the messaging app. I'm surprised how buggy it is, coming from the original Desire. Has anyone else noticed that the word prediction seems to be weaker than the Desire by a little bit?
I too have noticed this bug along with my reply to a message being shown above the one i'm replying to rather than below it if i don't wait at least 1 minute.
epicfail: u can fix it with downloading "SMS Time Fix" from market (free) and set it to "Adjust SMS to phone time"
Glad it's not just me. So is the answer to install a 3rd party text app? Can't wait to for s-off. I lost my Desire and it was replaced with a Desire S. The Desire S is OK but I really miss my Desire with Oxygen ROM
Hey All,
i've got fat thumbs and i keep pressing return on the keyboard which in the ICS Messaging app send the text message, this is rather annoying when you've only typed half of the message.
Does anyone know if you can disable this? or if there is anyway i can modify the App to stop this happening?
i would rather not use a different app just because i like the stock app.
Many thanks

Different keyboard perhaps?
worked a treat, i was using the ICS keyboard from the market and not the ICS keyboard that came with the AOSP mod.. swapped over and the return button disappears when you're in the Messaging app..
Cheers matey!
Hi all, I seem to be unable to get individual text notifications working on my S8+. That is, I go into the contact, I find where it says "Message Tone" and I set the tone I'd like to use. When I go in and look, everything seems to be correct.
Then when a text comes in, the default notification is still used. This is the case when both a tone that I added is used, or a built in tone. I had thought perhaps it was because I was using a 3rd party texting app (Textra, was not a fan of the default Samsung app), but even when I reset to the Samsung messages app, this was still the case (I even tried restarting the phone after setting messages as the default, just to make sure).
Anybody else having this issue? Anybody fix it? I've tried everything I can find, hopefully one of you can point out something obvious that I've missed.
I posted this in the AT&T S8+ Forum, figured i'd post in here too, might get faster help. I did do a couple searches before posting, but if someone has already addressed this I apologize.

No issues here, after setting the message tone you want are you tapping save in the upper right of the screen?

I am. I've attached a screenshot for a contact I'm using as a test (my GVoice number). It LOOKS like it's set up correctly (at least to me) just not working correctly. Personalized Ring Tones seem to work, but not text notifications.
The phone is doing a couple other quirky things. I'm wondering if it might be time to just say "F it" and do a hard reset.

Here are the screens I get when changing a ringtone or messaging tone. Didn't get the screenshot low enough for messaging tone, it's right below ring tone.

Yeah, I don't think I'm doing anything differently. Weird that ring tones work but not text messages. I had a couple different contact managers installed (don't really like the Samsung one) and thought maybe they were causing the issue, so uninstalled them and rebooted. Still no go.
I do like the look of the dark theme for the contacts app though, definitely gonna change it to that!
I also use Textra on my S8+, as I don't like the default one, and you set the personalized tones in Textra not contacts.
In Textra, go to one of the texts from someone that you want to customize and long press it, then go the three dot menu in the upper right corner and select customize. Then select Notifications, then notification sound and pick the one that you want.
Works perfectly...

:victory: The files are IN the computer!! It's so obvious!! Thanks so much, this has been driving me nuts.
Still a little weird it wouldn't work when I reset the phone to the Samsung app, but now I don't care because this works!! Thank you so much.
Sometimes it is just the little things...
Hi,
Just got my unlocked Pixel 4a today. No custom roms or anything. Android 11. Build RQ1A.201205.008.
I'm a bit of a minimalist, and I went through the keyboard settings for messages (it had this little emoji bar thing that also did the predictive words I wanted to get rid of). Also in that bar was the microphone for voice to txt. When I shut off those unneeded options and turned the dedicated numerical row on, the microphone disappeared. I've tried resetting the options to the best of my memory, but it still isn't back to where it was, and the microphone is still gone.
There is another microphone in the preview box, but that is a tap-and-hold-to-send-a-recording microphone. Not what I'm looking for. That works.
I checked permissions, Gboard has permissions. I checked the keyboard settings, voice to text is enabled. Anyone know the 'magic combination' of options to get this back? I use it frequently!! I'd hate to have to reset-to-factory just to restore this one feature.
Thanks!
I finally found it after much headaches. It seems the voice to text microphone is part of the "suggestion strip" that is under "Text Correction". No idea why this isn't integrated into the keyboard as it's own icon as it's been in earlier versions of Android.
If anyone has any recommendations on how I can potentially make that integration and get rid of the suggestion strip, please let me know.
I tried to reproduce the missing voice2text mic that you reported and failed.
I went to Gboard settings > text correction then:
Disabled show suggestion strip
Disabled next-word suggestions
Disabled emoji suggestions
Disabled sticker suggestions
Going back to the keyboard, the suggestion strip/stickers/GIF/clipboard/settings and the mic were all gone.
I re-enabled all the above and the mic reappeared, along with the other stuff.
One thing you could try short of factory reset is to go to the App Info for the Gboard, force stop, and clear the cache. Relaunch the keyboard to see if it brought the mic back.
---
Looks like you resolved it. I think this design change was made a few cycles ago and am not aware of any way to re-integrate it. You could try SwiftKey to see if that has the feature you want.
I think installing a different keyboard can be helpful here. Have you tried to do it? To be honest, it was one of the most significant problems that made me change a model of my phone. I did have a Samsung Note, and the problem with the Gboard was repeating very often. I have been browsing different sites to find a solution, but was never successful in it. One day, one of my sisters visited me and took my phone while I was in the kitchen. She fixed the problem instantly, would you believe it? I came to the room and was surprised after she showed me it. She said she visited https://techplugged.com/5-best-solutions-to-fix-the-gboard-not-working-error/ and followed all the instructions given there. I have forgotten about the problems with Gboard for a long time, but there were other reasons for me to change my phone to the latest iPhone.
