Hi, this is not strictly related to Nexus 5 only, but I would like to know if there's a way to turn GNL homescreen grid from 4x4 to 5x5 without Xposed.
I've changed the screen density but it seems to only affect the app drawer grid, with no changes in homescreen.
Also, I'm not interested in any third party launcher, because I really aim to keep Google Now integration as it is.
If anyone comes up with an idea, welcome then!
Thanks
Have you tried to change dpi? I use 400, but don't with GNL.

Yes but, as I stated, it only affects app drawer.

I don't think it would be the official launcher any more if it were modified. There is a Nova Beta which keeps the looks of the kitkat launcher (no google now page, yet) but allows you to fully customize the home-screens and app draw.

that would just change the size, not the grid layout.

You're right it does change the grid size, but because widgets can not be re-sized in the stock launcher you can't get a fully proportioned replica. I guess if you don't use widgets and don't mind the size reduction in every app, then you could get a 5x5 by simply reducing the dpi, but... too many compromises IMO for me to call it a full 5x5.
The touchwiz launcher was modified for a different grid size for the galaxy series. Wondering if the same can be done for the KK launcher. What files would one need to modify to change this? I agree that changing the DPI is not the ideal solution if you just want the grid change on the home screen.
I'm on stock rooted with the Google Now launcher (4.4.2 KK) and I want a way to set my launcher grid to 3x3 instead of 4x4. I don't want to download another launcher but keep this one. I've also searched for xposed modules for this but with no luck. Anyone know how I can get the 3x3 launcher grid with the Google Now launcher?
Thanks.
Gravity Box comes to my mind, but I don't think it has the layout that you want.

That's what came to my mind too. But I think the lowest it can go is 5x5.

You have quite a nice screen density. On my Mate 7 everything looks much more zoomed in, which I don't like. For example, I get way less notification icons in the status bar, maybe only 6-7.
Changing the font to "small" didn't do the trick.
Any help on this?

Can you send me the changes you put in your build.prop for this?
I have changed DPI but it has broken some things, ie the navigation bar buttons are over to the left..
Thanks
Puuuh...
Now my navbar is also over the left.
I tried much xposed modules and delete some...
Don't know exactly, which!?
I'll have a look at the modules and post here, if I find it!

Hello, i have a problem to with Noav. Many times Nova Launcher kill it self and go back to stock Launcher. Who can tell me what can i do? Other Launcher have the same problem (apex etc.)
Manage Apps, the bottom left of default-app settings, Launcher. Select at Nova overview. There you'll find all Launcher installed.
Nova launcher keeps crashing on me, for no reason, 2/3 times when i just unlock my phone with fingerprint sensor. M7 32gb amber gold.
Do you use any of Huawei's own widgets (e.g. the weather widget) ? If so remove them and your alternative launcher will not crash anymore.
I'm using the weather clock widget yes. I'll try it out. Tnx
Nova launcher crushers every time I try and place the amber weather widget, anyone has come across this?
Using TouchWiz the "Edgebar" is always in forground...that is usefull. But when i'm using some other launcher the edgebar thinks : oh an app is open i switch into background. then you always have to tap the edge to get it back.
how does cocktailbarservice (edgebar) know that it can stay in forground with touchwiz launcher?
and is there a way to edit app to let it stay in forground with other launcher ?
I would love to know the answer to this too. Even though I hate Touchwiz, I have stuck with it for that very reason.

Yeah I noticed that too. Even the venerable Nova launcher doesn't fix that. Check in the Themes section of this phone forums. I wanted a different launcher solely cause of the ability to have scrolling background images. But the tradeoff with the Edge screen wasn't worth it. So I found an app called landscape wallpaper that does that. Why do you want a different launcher?

and with root and xposed framework you can use 'wanam xposed' to set scrolling background thats a solution for all rooted devices.
it would be nice to use nova launcher - more settings, more individual look. I dont like touchwiz launcher.
I'm looking for any tips, tricks or advice for people with failing eyesight and using a stock Android device (Nexus 5X). Anything to be done besides ticking the Larger Text box under Accessibility? Is there a way to make the application icons bigger? A way to increase the system font so it's larger everywhere? Rooting is NOT an option.
Text to Speech stuff doesn't work well in crowded places.
for change dimension of app in app drawer (if I have understood well) you can simply change launcher to nova or anyone allow you to change icon dimension in drawer for the rest you have to modify the dpi so in the build.prop you should adjust dpi of the phone but root is required...

up to 145% but it's not the only think you can do in Nova, if you want bigger you can reduce the matrix of grid icons for have a dimension at blind proof... ?
