Man, look at some of these speeds I get when getting a good signal on mobile data.

My speeds suck, any tips?
I'm more than happy with this speed inside my home.

There should be a thread of the horrible speeds 90 percent of us get.
this the best i can get at home if i go down the block i get 40mbps download speeds. I'm half bars lte in the house

Damn, that has got to suck being that slow!! I have Internet in my house that usually always gets over 120Mbps mainly because my server needs really high speeds to keep up with the demand..
I would of left sprint along time Ago if i didn't have internet at home.

Where it is actually at T-Mobile is very fast as well. But similar to sprint you could go a few blocks away and be roaming. Or at least wishing you were.
So I guess the conclusion is: Sprint surprises some, disappoints most.
I ****ing hate when my phone shows me good LTE service yet it STILL doesn't load anything..... I mean the service is WORLDS better than it was when I signed up in 2006 but it really pisses me off sometimes.

You know we are all on sprint because the unlimited data plans are the cheapest in town.
I travel fulltime and I can say its nice when you are in NYC and can pull 80mb down. Not so nice when you are driving across South Dakota or New Mexico and all you have is roaming.
Overall the best coverage I've seen across the contiguous USA is on the GSM network (ATT) and the best data bandwidth has been LTE over CDMA with Verizon having the most consistent coverage.
The technology is changing faster than anyone can keep up with it though. If your bandwidth sucks now just wait a year. It might not be the fastest but it should get better.

Luckily I am on Long Island so I get pretty decent coverage most places but sometimes it is spotty. Like someone else said, standing over here it is great but go across the street and it is non-existent. Sprint really shot itself in the foot when it went Wimax instead of LTE. They backed the wrong horse and they are only just starting to get back on track. For what I pay, and the coverage and speeds I usually get around here, I have lived with it. However, those times when it doesn't work even on Long Island, REALLY pisses me off. When I'm up on a trip in Vermont somewhere forget it. Everyone else has data coverage (at least functional) and I got nothing but that is the price I pay. I usually just turn off the cell radio as it drains the **** out of my battery.
Man sprint is stepping up finally.

Doing pretty good here. VERY happy
i get about 7mbps occasionally. that's about the theoretical hspa speed so yeah i have the early stages of faux-g. i dont think they have the 21mbps backhaul yet just, the 14mbps backhaul. could be wrong but my att reps are saying that 4g isnt fully implimented.
I'm getting 10 mbps close to where i live. It drops down to 2-5 outside of town.

You probably mean 5.2 down and 1.3 up.
I'm in the Tampa, FL area. I'm getting 5+ down and 1-2 up pretty regularly in my area. I'm happy...it's beats the crap out of my old T-Mobile BS. More importantly, the coverage is WAY better.
Yes where do you all live? Where can I get these speeds?
Does anyone know if the icon in the task bar actually reflects what type of tower you are connected to? i.e. will it say "3G" if you are connected to a non-"enhanced backhaul" tower? Mine always shows the "H+" icon, and my speeds have ranged from 1.5Mbps to 8Mbps.
Well it shouldn't. Hspa+ should be available everywhere hspa was, and that's att's entire 3g network. So anywhere you got 3g you should get hspa+. That doesn't mean the tower can supply data speeds in the range of hspa+ 7mbit to 21mbit. The speed to the tower is being called "backhaul"
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
That's what I was asking - if the H+ indicated the tower was upgraded or if it just shows H+ always. I had hoped for the former but expected the latter.
the h+ is only the cell technology used between the phone and the tower, and all 3g towers are upgraded to use hspa+, but this doesnt indicate the towers connection to the network, so even if the tower can only supply 0.0000001mbit, itll still say h+. the only way to know what you can get from your area is to look at your actual speeds.
Just hit 11.47 down and 1.64 up out here in NYC. Pretty good if you ask me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
Thanks, that answers my question. I was just hoping for an easy way to know which areas were upgraded, since I assume that even with an upgraded tower it's possible to see speeds below 7Mbps and therefore it wouldn't be cut and dried. I've only seen 7+ speeds in one spot so far (at work), I see more in the 2 to 4Mbps range so I guess a lot of my area is not upgraded.
I am very envious. We are supposed to be getting it in the next month. Of course by then we won't have the free tethering anymore.

i am getting some truly amazing speeds right now. to get this on verizon, id have to have a phone twice as thick with a fraction of the battery life. im still convinced that att (atleast in houston) is the best network to be on.
if you look at the graph, it did blip over 14mbit before ending at 13.5
Nothing here in King of Prussia, PA (Philly suburb) to even match those speeds
Getting an abysmal 1300 kbps in download and a miserly 760 kbps in upload.
The best I've gotten is 6/2.
I'm disappointed in the "4G" to say the least.
Hopefully that changes.

To many variants on this, how far from the tower, how much interference there is, how many are using the network.
Also on your last pic you are on the edge aka 2G network not HSPA+

lol wtf r u guys on? i get even 8/s ussually
well the fact that they were all taken within 100m of each other and outside and in Philadelphia, like I said, means most of the reasons don't make sense.
I did take a few with Edge, which were a lot slower, but often had less ping time. Thanks for the feedback. I find it hard to believe that the traffic flux within 3 minutes would cause a 500ms swing in lag times so I'm kind of thinking that it's really an issue with the hardware/ROM that gives me such fits.
I have the same problem around Salt Lake City, UT. My phone will show 4g service, with full bars, and yet my connection will constantly stall out or not work. Some days it works fine other days it's worthless, even though it says 4g. F'ing tmobile.
Are you usually located in NY NY like speed test says? Because when I was in NY near queens, I only got hspa+ speeds to. When ever I came back home (Texas) I'm on 4g networks now. And I'm on latest cyanogen mods stable for g2x
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
Its the G2x, not T-Mobile. When I had my G2x I would get max 7 down, higher ping, and same upload. But honestly, you don't really need much more on the G2x.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Accessing the network in Philly will lead to a lot of fluctuation, especially at 1:30 in the afternoon. A lot of people in the city use T-Mobile and peak hours suck here.
Also included in the issue is that while network is a major player, the speed at which the phone processes stuff hurts the speed. If your phone lagged up at any point during the test, you'll notice a huge fluctuation.
Which region has the very worst Verizon 4g network speeds?? I'm betting it's right here in Western New York. Can anyone top this?

I've had sub 2Mb before, but that was on my GNex. I'm in NE Ohio. On my M8 I've seen speeds up in the 30-40's, and speeds down to ~5-6 Mb. I haven't really paid attention to see if it's related to what area I'm in, or the time of day, or what. But it can fluctuate a lot, obviously.
Past several days I've had around .2-.6 down at home. Elsewhere its 45-55 down though. I'm in south Dayton, OH.
Just an educated thought here.. but if they enabled ~700mhz AWS bands at all in the area you live in... it could be interference caused by local cable tv signals. If the cable signals in your area are in any way shape or form leaking.. it will cause problems. These frequencies now overlap.

Before AWS NYC and metro NJ...especially Newark NJ were under 1 meg down during peak hours
Now it's ridiculously fast.

Wow. Looks like I'll feel like I'm back with Sprint when I go to new York this August for vacation. Some places here in California I pull over 100 down. But usually never less than 20 in worse areas. I think the east coast is just too crowded with buildings to get a good signal. The heavily populated areas don't help either

They must be doing major network work. Last few days at work near Long Beach, CA I'm lucky to get 2-3 bars 3G, sometimes 1 bar 4G. I use to get 2-4 bars 4G all over work since day one this phone came out. Last 5 days have been craps service! Checked online and many confirm this so not just me. People say they call customer service to only get the run around so who the hell knows what's really going on?
I swear, leaving AT&T for Verizon so I could get this device was the biggest mistake. Never had AT&T issues with network and Verizon acts like their the best in the country! Best at wasting money on T.V. ads instead of investing it in their network I guess. Damn false hope switching to Verizon.

Verizon, of course.
Just got .74 mbps down and .21 mbps up, that's on 3g.
Rebooted, got .21 mbps down and .25 mbps up.
When I rebooted it did show LTE for a second or two before dropping back to 3g.
I'm not complaining, I get NO SIGNAL at all in my house with T-Mobile!
No wonder I'm always on WiFi! <G>
Got it to show LTE! 2.02 down, 1.01 up.
Pathetic.
OK guys so I'm currently with Verizon and my bill for 3 lines usually is $236 including insurance for 2 phone (8bucks each) 10 gigs and a constant $5 dollar late fee (cell phone bill falls on the same check as rent) now with sprint offering to slash 50% off any competitors price I'm really leaning towards sprints note 5. (Mainly for root purposes and a much cheaper bill) Now the only thing holding me back is "reliability" I live in Wildomar Ca, pretty much Temecula Ca, and the coverage map on sprints website says it's good coverage I'd rather have some input from a real person who uses their network around my area. Does anyone here live near this area who can shed some light on their experience with sprints network in or near this area?

Here is my 1 bar daily average
I think this site has a much more accurate map of the sprint network.
The speeds I'm averaging are slower than dial up from 1993 both up and down. But if i pop in a t-mobile sim it's faster than my t-mobile note 3. So i blame sprint network not the phone.

I pay about $250 on 5 lines after Employee discount. I also have a legacy plan. Customer Service sucks. Techs are idiots. However, the actual service is quite excellent. Band 41 LTE is nice when I land on a tower.
I find Sprint Customer service to be ok. Service has gotten better. There are places where the other three carriers will get sata but Sprint doesn't have data. There is the flip side too where Sprint has data and Verizon or T-Mobile doesnt.
If they are offering the 50% off, might be worth a try. You can always quit Sprint if you don't like it.

My bad
But to OP, in terms of reliability, Sprint is changing their return/exchange policy for new lines of service to 28 days. That means you have 28 days AFTER the day of the sale to decide whether or not if you want to stay with sprint with your plan 50% off (note that these are only CURRENT plans from TMo/VZW/ATT). You do have the option of picking which plan you want from that carrier (ie: if you want more data, you're not locked into your current data rate plan), which has changed since Cut Your Rate Plan in Half - where you only had the option of your current rate plan or Sprint's plans.
I would see if you can get an response from someone locally. Cause they would give you a better response if its worth it or not. And even before you leave i would see what Verizon is willing to offer before you leave them completely. They might work in some good deals for you. Last thing you want to do is come to sprint and suffer that horror they call data. I barely pull down 5gb in my area. Planning to switch to ATT soon.

That sounds like a very case by case situation. I never have a problem roaming, I only have a problem with wifi calling - standard handoff not working like it should sometimes.
Ok so got the S8+ yesterday and one issue that crops up is my speed on tmo network It's terrible. Far slower than my old phone. I was getting yesterday about a hundred k down. Working with techsupport found if I turned LTE off I was getting better speeds
This morning some was some what better saw some 10meg burst. Let's still not the blazing speed advertised and slower than my old phone ... Now in Las Vegas So should be on the new network
Tmo tech support has been good helpful and cleared several issues. First they saw red flag in system that my phone is not LTE capable. They fixed that ...Today they found the IMEI Number was still showing up as my old phone.
I see a spike for 30+MBPS and then it trickles down into the single digits.. Also having dropped calls and missed text messages. Going to chat with Tmobile now.
Edit:
Funky stuff going on here, Tmobile reset my sim card and now I tried two different speed tests; Traditional Speedtest.net registers 70MBPS and is hosted by tmobile server. When I run fast.com I get 2.7mbps...
No issues here.

NW suburbs of Chicago. Solid speeds that I've hit on previous devices, but seemingly more consistent with the S8 Plus. Though we also just got the 700 mhz turned on this week, so that's another huge variable.

100 mb down in ATX.
This happens to me every once in a while with new phones. When it happens, I will put a new SIM in and then call T-Mobile to have them add the new SIM to my account. If this doesn't fix it then you know it's a problem with your areas towers.

speed test was showing decent, but fast.com was very slow! Was at t-mobile store and it's not reconizing it on the comp showing it says "2g" but my phone says 4glte, the guy says he's seen it with release devices/pre-release and should clear up in a day

Ive roll back to.my note 4 and now on it ..it is now the same 20,30k down speed crap!!!
...ive drove in a radius of at least 20 miles from No Las Vegas to the strip by T-Mobile Arena. And tested...its the same slow speed..
I'm not just using a speed tester I'm trying to download apps and they're crawling 5 10 15 minutes to download a simple small app
T-Mobile's now keeps trying to tell me all they're doing a network upgrade in the area for the next few months and that's the reason for this...BS!... this is totally unacceptable and unusable
Is there anyone in the greater Las Vegas area on the T-Mobile network that can do some speed test to see if they're seeing the same ridiculously low virtually out of service speeds
If this is due to a network upgrade then they're the most incompetent Engineers I've ever seen.... I work in telcom!... You would never ever ever break a production Network region-wide like this and take it out of service for days...
I work too many 24/7 365 noc spent too many hours working from 1 a.m. to 5 am on a Sunday morning during the maintenance window when you can afford to impact a production Network for a few hours to do upgrades and maintenance
Houston,TX here.
So far the best speeds I've had on any phone.

What speeds are you getting out in your region? I am averaging a rough 6-10 MB down with a 20-25 ms ping over here on my side of town
