Lost root G930F - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey guys, i woke up yesterday with no root access on my GS7 outta the blue, it's been working fine earlier until now, i tried to reflash the cf auto root by chainfire again and again and it seems that root would not install on my phone.
Please is there any solution or an updated version for cf auto root to fix this problem ?

Yes, this seems to be a widespread problem. See these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/lost-root-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-t3378618/page2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/sm-g935-exynos-cf-auto-root-t3337354/page41
Hopefully Chainfire can fix CF-Autoroot soon. If anyone has a way to easily ping him please do that.
For now I'm going to just hunker down and wait for a fix before starting from scratch.

i just noticed this myself, disabled security updates but no permissions to flash the binary... weird

i have lost root too, suddenly i cant log in to TB.
any ideas?

Not sure what versions you are using or if this will help but I had issues with 2.71 I have had none with 2.68

For those who lost root on the G930F, see my post in this thread for a process to restore root:

Chainfire explains the background behind the loss of root here and the updates he did to CF Autoroot to address the loss of root issue:

on what build are you

Hi i'm on Samsung S7 Flat also.
I've tried searching threads on how to do it but i was unable to find the exact firmware with the same CSC version for my device.
I'm afraid that i could have my phone bricked if i flashed the firmware having different CSC version.
Can anybody give me a hand to fix this? I'm attaching all my phones info for details.
By the way i rooted my phone using CF root and lost it probably because of Samsung's Security Update.
PDA Version: G930FXXU1APD1
Bootloader Version: G930FXXU1APD1
CSC Version: G930FOLB1APD3
Thanks!

Chainfire indicated that you only really need to match the PDA firmware version, and as he's the one behind CF Autoroot you should probably take his word on that. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66937745&postcount=222
So you should be fine if you download a firmware zip file with that PDA firmware version (regardless of the CSC firmware version and country code) and extract the boot.img from that and then follow the remaining steps I posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66934553#post66934553
I downloaded my exact firmware (PDA Firmware Version, CSC Firmware Version and Country Code) out of an abundance of caution, but probably would have been fine just downloading a firmware zip file that just had the same PDA firmware version.
For the previous poster who asked, my build number is MMB29K.G930FXXU1APB4

Can a root device be upgraded?

Hi all
A week ago a rooted my Samsung Galaxy S6 device following this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/root-pingpongroot-s6-root-tool-t3103016
All was OK. At that point my device is using the Android Version: 5.0.2
The question I have is that now the version 5.1.1 (Lillipop) has been released, I would like to know if my rooted device can still be upgrading when the new version is released in my region (Mexico) by the phone provider. (Telcel). In case it cannot be updated automatically, I guess I will need to do it manually or unroot my device. In that scenario, Does someone know a good tutorial how to do that?
Regards!
@LesthadMK, sure you can update rooted devices. But it may not be possible via OTA update. You will have to download the full firmware and install it manually.
Because root makes changes to system partition, OTA fails when you have rooted. If you unroot and flash stock recovery and kernel back, then OTA may work. Otherwise, simply flash the full firmware, in .tar format using Odin software, and you're good.
It's good to have full firmware saved on PC anyway, as if in case you brick your device, you can fix it by installing your device's firmware manually.
If you need help with 5.1.1 firmware installation on your s6, let me know the build no. of your device.. I will guide you to page you need to look at.
Thanks for the help. I have download Odin in case I need to do it manually.
Also, mentioned that yesterday I read an article saying that using the Samsung software "Smart Switch" in an rooted device will upgrade the device to the newest version (which I don't know if it it's true or not) Any way this is the link I found:.... Well seems since I'm newby I cannot post some external links. So just google it as: How to Use Smart Switch to Update Your Galaxy S6—Even It's Rooted.
By other hand, this is the build number for my device: G920IDVU1AOE3, so if you can help me to know how to upgrade that version that would be very helpful
Regards!

SM-G920R6 Firmware Help

I want to change the firmware of my Galaxy S6 (SM-G920R6) which is Verizon LRA device. I want to Install a stock rom like the rom of SM-G920V or SM-920F or SM-G920T..
How can I do that? which firmware will be the best for it?
I want to change rom because APN refuses to work - I edited a lot of files, tried every suggestion from here & other forums - nothing helped .
So I decided to change the rom in order to enable APN edit.
So, how do I change the stock rom of my cellphone to another stock rom? The SIM is working propley after I change some settings in serivcemode (So it's not CDMA anymore, it's GSM).
Please Help ! :crying:
Edit : BTW I used this in order to root the cellphone - so maybe G920T firmware will work? CF-Auto-Root-zerofltetmo-zerofltetmo-smg920t
My android is 5.0.2, please help.
Anyone?
This is a little off topic for the op but I really need help right now.. I rooted with CF autoroot for G920F no problem then installed TWRP 3.0.2-1 zeroflteusc also built for G920F model and in the process of trying to find a better rom as soon as I had a custom recovery, me (being a dumba**) accidentally wiped my internal storage to do a clean flash of a rom therefore deleting the only backup I had. I've only been able to find the factory binary for this device which I flashed but it had literally nothing exept for basic testing software and a simple ui to run it. It was also stuck on Android 5.0.2 but I found a compatible rom with AllianceROM v1 with update v2 flashed for the G920F but I can't find any way to update past 5.0.2!! I've been trying to find a way to update somehow for weeks but nothing is compatible with my device and I'm stuck. Would someone that has my model running on Android 5.1.1 or 6.0/.1 please install the TWRP I mentioned before and make a backup of the system, modem, efs, and boot and post it online or send it to me it would be a lot of help.

Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) Android 6.01 Root and Media Recovery Help, Some questions.

Phone: Galaxy S6 SM-G920F No carrier
Firmware/Base Band: G920FXXS4DPJ2
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-882157 [email protected] #1
Compilation number: MMB29K.G920FXXS4DPJ2
Running Official Rom
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this, I need it.
A girl deleted more than 4000 videos and images I had in my phone, almost all the 128Gb of the phone where full. Now I want to recover them but for some reason almost no Android Recovery Software recognizes my phone properly and when they have, the recovery program freezes or a particular program finds some files but not the ones I'm interested in and asks me to root my phone to be able to perform a better recovery.
The problem is that apparently there is no auto-root or ping-pong root for my Firmware and Android Version. I think the logical solution in this case is to flash a different Firmware, one that can be rooted and then do it and see if I can recover the files.
If I am not mistaken flashing a different Firmware is something that you have to be careful with. I don't know which firmware should I flash to be able to root my phone. I am from Spain and I know SamMobile website where you can find all the Firmwares, but from all the ones from Spain none has and auto-root method.
I am open to installing a Firmware intended for a different country if that means root access to be able to recover my pictures and flash back a Firmware for my country once I recover them. The thing is I don't know which Firmware to Flash nor if it is safe to do it. For example there are severral Android 6.01 based Firmwares for my phone in my country but some are for example 1 month old and others 9 months with many in between. If I had the 1 month old Android 6.01 Firmware would I be able to Flash a 6-9 month old Android 6.01 Firmware or is it dangerous?
Can you reccommend me a specific Firmware that would not brick my phone? and be english language please no Russian, Chinesse or a exotic language, that I would be lost with?

Need Help With My S6 ASAP Please.

Hello wise people of XDA,
This is my first post.
I currently use an S6 G920F United Kindom unlocked as my phone and i have been using this phone for a long time. Now its past its warranty I decided to root the phone and see what i can do with it and get rid of the bloatware. Normally i either use KingoRoot or KingRoot but both failed so I searched around on the internet and came across CF Auto Root. After seeing it was successful for others i jumped on the bandwagon. I rooted it and everything was golden until i came across a problem, it would randomly turn off. This was random and infrequent. but not it happens like 5 times a day so i decided to flash a stock rom. For some strange reason Sam mobile wont let me download a stock Rom so after poking around the internet i have download a few stock roms however they always fail in Odin. Now my phone wont even boot as it says "error occured while updating use smart switch emergency recovery feature" so i go onto the Smart switch PC app and then it doesnt recognise. After 2 days of trying i haven't had any luck so I don't know what to so. Every time I try flashing something, when it fails i get some red text on the phone which I don't understand.
Someone please help me as I cant just buy a new phone and this is the only phone i have got. Any help would be very grateful and please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Edit:
It says on the Download Screen:
Odin Mode
Product Name: SM-G920F
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Reactivation Lock: Off
Secure Download: Enabled
Knox Warranty Woid : 1 (0x0500)
RP SWREV: B:6 K:2 S:2
(When it fails it says) SW REV. Check Fail. Device:6 . Binary: 5
Hopefully that helped.
Somewhere in the middle of the firmware version there's either S5 or U5, on the firmware you are trying to flash. On the phone either S6 or U6 is installed, and there's downgrade prevention. You need firmware with S6 or U6. By S6 I don't mean the phone, it is just a version code.
Generally look for the firmware meant for the phone's region, though on websites the displayed region might be incorrect.
If the cellular fails change the firmware or wipe data (not efs!!!!!).

What do I do? I have like 10 different "stock roms" claiming to be United Kindgom BTU at Android 7.0 but all are failing. And I do not know what you mean by S5/6 and U5/6. And now i get a different error message. When it fails it now says Binary: 1. I don't know what to do!
Thanks for the quick reply and appreciate the help.

The firmware version(s) look like this,
G920FXXU6ERF5 . If there is U6 on the device and the U5 is flashed, it won't work. There are a few firmware 'components' inside the zip or whatever, and all of these must have the same or a higher version in the middle. New firmware might require odin 3.13.1 but should not show this error.

U6/S6, "Device:6" is in the odin log so it's already 6 and won't return to 5.

Firmware, CSC and Samsung

Hello, I wanted to ask a few questions
After a firmware flash with XPG CSC code for example is it possible to change the CSC code to THL and vice versa?
Is there really any way to lower firmware to a lower version?
If so, what file / path do I need to do this?
what is the differences between OXA and OXM?
Is there a place where you can read about the new changes that Samsung has made in recent years in terms of security that can not flash firmware to an older version and can not change CSC codes?
I know how to root a phone and use ADB (ADB in a very basic way)
Thanks!

Fail to flash with odin to downgrade from android 10
About a year ago, I downloaded firmware for N960F from updato and downgraded from Pie to Oreo using Odin and it went all so well. This time around I'm trying to downgrade from Android 10 to the exact same firmware version I used back then, just...
forum.xda-developers.com
But since about the s8-s9 days Samsung implimented anti rollback , wich are not so clear , some phones cand downgrade to a previous version and some dont due the firmware setting the minimun version bar higher so to speak .
Wich model are you trying to downgrade?
