Pierre Cardin Leather Case Review! - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

So I recently decided that even though my S7 is my daily driver, I wanted a nice leather case for my Note 4. I've actually looked for leather cases for the Note 4 since I got it back in October of 2014, but I could never find anything good. Recently though, I've found the Pierre Cardin leather case, and I really like it a lot!
They say it's genuine leather; it feels really good in the hand. It's not too slippery, and it's not to stiff. Protection wise, it's nothing special because it's one of those cases you just slip the phone into that doesn't have top/bottom protection. For me, though, I'm really careful with my phones so I don't need/want a lot of bulk. This case is thick enough and covers the corners enough that I'm sure if it dropped, it would still be ok. All access to the ports/s-pen work fine.

The stitching on the back looks cool; it's a very bright brown almost white stitching that runs up and down the back, and around the camera. The brand name Pierre Cardin is punched into the back at the bottom, along with a logo.
There is a nice small lip that runs around the bezel so that you can easily put the phone face down without having to worry.
The cutouts on the side for power and volume are shaped well and easily accessible.
All in all, this is a really cool case. It feels nice, it fits the phone nice, and I think it's gonna be the case I'm going to keep on the note for a while! Mine is the brown color, which as you can see in pics isn't as super bright as the pics on amazon. The red is also REALLY nice; I actually got the red for my mom's Note 5 which I'll be doing a review soon for as well...but I think I might end up doing the red for my GS7!

Looks nice but I prefer to have a case that offers better protection than that.

I'm using this case for about 6 months now. While it's a great case and adds to the look, it is sensitive to heat - the edges where the leather meets the satin-like insides tend to come off if your phone heats up (optimizing 350 apps after flashing Xposed or playing a demanding game...). The colour of the leather also tends to get darker, though it doesn't look bad at all even when it gets dark.
The case is essentially a plastic inner with leather-like outer and satin-like soft inner material, so it won't stand much of a fall - I managed to drop the phone once, and the bottom right corner of the case is now broken.
Also, the heart rate sensor seems to have a problem with this case, the readings or erratic with it on (or I have too big a finger than what this case expects!).
All of that said, I'll definitely recommend this case - I got it from Amazon.in for about $13.50 (~INR 900), but considering that it looks like it won't last a year for me, I'd pick it for ~INR 500 if it comes on an offer/ discount.

interesting! i shall keep note of all of these issues you had. i just did the heart rate scanner and it worked fine, so on mine, it doesn't get in the way.

Rock Quicksand Case Review

This review is for the international version of the Rock Quicksand Case in Gray, being used on the At&t HTC One X.
The holes are a little misaligned, but it has no impact on usage or performance.
The case has a nice, soft feel to it. I would say it is somewhere between felt and super fine sand paper (it isn't going to scratch you).
It is a very thin case and doesn't add much to the overall bulk of the phone.
On the camera there is a lip to protect it from scratches when it is set down.
There is a bit of a lip over the front of the screen, but I couldn't tell you which would hit the ground first first, as it's pretty level with the raise due to my screen protector.
The cutouts look nice, but one thing to keep in mind is that neither the top nor bottom are covered. I would say that the lip from the corners would take most of the impact if it is dropped on its head though.
Overall,
This is the best case I have ever had. The case has a great feel and look, and doesn't add too much bulk, while protecting it from nicks due to being dropped.
Hope that helps!

I just got the black one (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Black-Composite-Quicksand-Poly-carbonate/dp/B0089DRQL6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350374497&sr=8-1&keywords=rock+quicksand+one+x) today and it's awesome! Very very thin, and fits quite snugly. The back is protected very well against scratches. This definitely includes the camera lens, which is one of my main concerns.
The screen and most of the front is not protected very much at all. I certainly wouldn't set my phone facing down on a table. On the other hand, that means that swiping from side to side is great. I remember there was no way to swipe between Google Chrome tabs with my old jelly case. The slightly rough material on the back is great for gripping the phone, and it doesn't pick up lint like the jelly cases do.
Thanks alot for your review!
Also appreciate the review - looks pretty good. Thanks for taking the plunge with an International case on an AT&T variant. I really don't understand why manufacturer's aren't making more AT&T specific cases still.
Have you used any USB cables other than the stock HTC one with this case? I have a few different USB cables and am afraid they may not all fit with the case on. Any pictures you can provide with the case on and cable in would be great.
A case like this would never work for me. 100% of the time I drop my phone, it lands screen down. :crying:

I've used 3 USB cables other than stock and they all work without any hassle. The cutout for the microUSB is rather large (which can be seen in the 1st and 2nd pictures), and unless your using some monster USB cable (I haven't seen one before) it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Me too! that's why I use a screen protector (only cost like $10 for a decent one on amazon). I've dropped it on asphalt face down from waist high and nothing happened.
I've had this case since last Friday and it's awesome. It's extremely light, thin, and has a fantastic texture that gives it a great grippy-ness.

EXO Skin review (with pictures)

I love skins for my devices. It gives them a custom look while preventing scratches. That is why I jumped at the chance to receive a free EXO skin of my choice. They have quite a variety to choose from on their site. For me, it always comes down the the wood designs, this time I chose the wood grain bubinga. The skin itself also has a slight texture with the wood grain that is a wonderful added touch that makes it feel more true to life. I love dark wood looks, as I currently have a skinomi wood grain skin on my Asus Transformer Prime tablet and keyboard dock.
This is the first skin that I have ever applied with a hot air dryer, and it certainly helps form the skin to the back cover. However, the skin isn't perfect in it's coverage of the back. I lined up the camera, flash, and speaker holes perfectly. What was left was slightly off for the outer edge of the skin. The right side was too close to the edge, while there was still some white showing on the left side. It's not too bad since its barely a millimeter off, but it is definitely something that I noticed.
The rest of the skin went on smoothly, but I was surprised to notice that mine did not come with the home button piece. I most likely wouldn't have kept the piece on anyway depending on if it caused issues with the fingerprint scanner since I use it daily. The sides have stayed in place pretty well over the past few days without any movement or peeling of the edges. Another thing that is slightly off is the top edge of the screen cover. I have the speaker, camera, and sensors aligned properly, but the notification LED cutout is a little lower than where the light is.
The skin itself isn't too thick, but it does make swiping the fingerprint sensor a tiny bit more difficult. I was even able to put a case back on over the skin, albeit with a little difficulty. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the skin, and look forward to more skin choices from EXO skins in the future. Here's hoping this review fixes the slight errors on the back, as well as possibly introducing more wood grain choices.

I really wonder how it would look like when you use skin with wireless charger backcover... (it's a bit thicker than normal backcover) anyway thanks for the review, looking to buy one of these also... Any recommendations for the brand? (currently what I found is exo skin and slickwraps)

:good: looks good. But I'll have to give it a pass, judging on how prone i am dropping my phones...

That's what I would like to know since I wouldn't be able to get a case that works with the wireless back.
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I had one similar (Skinomi) and it doesn't quite fit the wireless back.
The sides are fine but it has trouble covering the corners, they "scrunch" so it's not an even/smooth fit. If you cut slits you maybe able to get it to fit.
I should add that because the sides are ridged and not smooth the side stickers have trouble staying in place if rubbed too much. Particularly around the top/bottom.

thanks for the info... i guess i wont be buying it... gosh i hate how wireless charging backcover doesnt have any case >.>
Wow I would probably not have the patience to apply it so gingerly with hair dryers and it would be skewed!
Thanks for the review.
Everyone has their own taste. But yuck.
Reminds me of Walmart furniture with plastic stickon woodgrain.

Rearth Ringke Slim case

I got this case on amazon for $10.99. It comes with a mediocre screen protector.
The case itself is extremely light and fits around the phone securely. It covers every edge which is nice for these light shell cases. The design is similar to OEM look.
The feel is a little slick but better than the phone metal body. I wish it were more rubbery like other slim cases I've had before.
The case I got was gold.

I have the clear one. Love it. It's the only super slim case case I could find that covers all sides and provides a small lip for face down lay on the table protection.
Edit: the black one has a soft touch feel BTW. I have that one on my M8.[emoji16]

Thanks! That's good to know. I was debating on whether to get black or gold and just randomly chose gold.
I wish the screen protector it came with was larger. It doesn't cover the entire surface and it's a weird size in that it doesnt fit the actual screen part of the phone either.

So true! I've placed many screen protectors on phones over the years and this one was by far the worst. It just didn't fit right at all I had to trash it. But it was free so I can't complain too much. I prefer glass ones now anyway.
URL for the case:
http://www.amazon.com/Ringke-Screen...429212145&sr=8-3&keywords=ringke+slim+case+m9
I had gotten the clear one, but I don't recommend it. The cutout for the camera flash is too close, and since the case is clear, the flash will reflect and cause a glare in your photos. The black and gold ones probably don't have this problem though.
Looks really sleek and I kinda like the gold one however it does look like the Huawei Mate 7. Have held this phone with this case and it sure was very light and slim. I agree that it would've been better if the feel is a little more rubbery because I am not that comfortable holding the phone with that case.
I bought this case last month when the phone first came out. I bought the clear one and it was very slim and looked very sharp. This past weekend while walking through a parking lot I went to pull my phone out of my pocket and literally threw it up in the air and it took about a 6 foot bounce off the pavement. The corner of the Ringke case is broken off but there isn't one scratch on my phone.
Now you expect a giant brick of a case like the otterbox to survive these types of falls but I don't expect an Ultra thin case to survive and I was very impressed it was able to protect my phone. Its a good case.
I would'nt had bought this case if I knew it was this slippery lol
I have one in clear and like the way it does not add bulk to the phone at all. You feel like you are holding just the phone and the clear case really shows off the two tone.

RooCASE Origami review

The good fellows at rooCASE have sent me their Origami case for the Nexus 9 to review. After a few weeks and of testing, here is the my review.
http://www.amazon.com/roocase-Googl...id=1437516245&sr=8-1&keywords=nexus+9+origami
Pro’s:
First up… it has to be the right price or it won’t’ work for me. MSRP on the case is $49.99, but it sells for $19.98 on Amazon. And it is quite the case, albeit not perfect, for $20.
This thing looks awesome and feels awesome (I’ll revisit feeling in a little bit). The hard shell back is a polycarbonate and is really, really solid. It looks to be a quarter inch thick in some places and thicker on the corners for when you drop it. I do like how the N9 is “pinched” into the case as it will allow for the glass screen covers and you don’t have to worry about the case grabbing on to it. I’m not a big fan of NFC, but for those of you who are… no worries, the thick case still allows for NFC transfers.

The cover is made out of polyurethane. The inside cover is like a non-slip surface so when you have the N9 standing, it won’t slide around. The multiple ways you can fold the cover (hence the name Origami) give you plenty of options for your seating position. This is a great option for those who are “road warriors”. After that, the usual stuff you get with most cases is provided such as wake/sleep, and hey… it protects the screen when closed (another topic I will revisit below)
However, looks and feel only get you so far. This case held up to being thrown in a backpack to go to work and to some soccer games just fine. However, I don’t see it as ideal for those rugged people. If you are one of those people who are consistently biking, camping, mountain climbing, sky-diving, and/or warrior against fire-breathing dragons… you may want to check out that Orb System Versa Tough case by rooCASE.
Con’s:
So let’s get back to those things I said I would revisit. First off, I stand by my words that it looks and feel awesome. However, the case does absorb oils from your hands. It takes a little bit to wipe it clean… but keep this in mind. Next thing, and probably the biggest thing is the cover itself. The non-slip surface of the inside cover also sticks to debris. So the chances of scratching the screen is there (but the case does allow for glass screen protectors). The magnets that hold the cover to the case barely, and I mean barely keep the cover closed. As you can see in the photos, the cover opens up in the middle when it is upside-down. So I highly suggest keeping this case to the office/school/home use. Do not use this case for outdoor use (beach, camping, fire-breathing dragons, etc). You will more than likely get debris inside the case and scratch the screen. The last con that I have (and is probably the reason for the loose cover) is that it is not flush to the side of the N9 when closed (see picture of overlap). This is due to how the cover attaches itself to the case.
End Result:
Is the case worth it? I can say yes, as long as you know that the limitations are there. This case looks awesome in the business environment, sleek enough for school, and the cut outs for ports are perfect. I would love to see a better connection of the cover to the overall case to eliminate the flap that hangs over and I would love to see a bit stronger magnets used. The case weighing 0.4lbs adds a small amount of weight… however maybe the guys at rooCASE can develop a skeletonize version of the case can save weight and cost (I can dream, right?).
Either way, it is a great option and worth the $20.

Anyone have issues with the magnetic sleep/wake being activated when the cover is folded behind the device? My tablet will go to sleep if the cover is pressed against the top backside of the device. Think holding the device with your left hand in landscape orientation. For now I have resolved the issue with a small piece of material along the top edge of the device between it and the hard plastic shell. It pushes the top of the device out just enough to prevent the device going to sleep.

IMAK Cowboy Hard Matte Back Shell Quick Review

Figured I'd make a new thread instead so it's a bit more easy to search for than digging through the megathread.
Ordered this on eBay on Oct. 28 and received it on Nov. 2 so that was crazy fast for shipping from China to the SF Bay Area. Didn't expect this to arrive until the end of the month at the earliest.

Boring words:
Case's color is pretty close to the Graphite back. Similar to the OnePlus One from what I remember. VERY grippy feel with a rough-ish texture. Almost like something that has been Plastidipped.
Lip above the screen is about 1-1.5mm; no more than that. All ports are open and laser autofocus is free to beam away. Buttons are slightly recessed below the cutouts, but this is actually a benefit for me as I kept accidentally pressing the power button any time I fumbled around with the phone. I really enjoy the large cutout for the fingerprint reader as I use the sides of my finger for it to feel more natural instead of poking at it. Larger cutout helps me just rest my finger over the sensor instead of having to poke my finger through a tighter cutout. For someone who said "nothing larger than my Nexus 5, please", this case doesn't make the 6P any more hard to handle than it already is; it's very minimal.
Any problems with it getting caught on your pockets when taking it out or storing it?

Very nice setup you got there! I Will order this case as well because it's similar to the Pelosi case for the OPO. Thanks a lot Dude! Now what color....
Thank you for posting pictures and doing a review of the case. I just ordered this case on eBay using my eBay bucks. Basically got the case and a tempered glass for free on eBay
I've always loved the texture of these cases. It reminds me of the oneplus sandstone.
I'm curious though, being that the texture on the inside of the screen is "rough", do you guys think it will scratch the phone over time? Especially taking it on and off?
Thanks for the review. Does the lettering feel like it could be peeled off? I prefer a clean look without the branding.

The inside is a little bit more smooth than the outside is. Still textured, though... I'll most likely switch to the Spigen Thin Fit once that arrives and this will just be a back up. I prefer Spigen's soft touch coating.

It's printed on so I don't think it'll be coming off any time soon.
The top and bottom is not protected though if it falls.
I had a similar IMAK case for my Nexus 4. Held up really well until it melted in the hot hot Australian sun (forgot it in a compartment on top of the car's dashboard). I certainly don't blame them for that.
The texture for these things is very unique. If this is the type of protection you are looking for, I highly recommend this.

I'm not too worried. Dropped my Nexus 5 on concrete once with the Spigen Ultra Fit that has an open top. The way these are designed, the top and bottom of the device doesn't make contact with the surface due to the lip around the top of the corners. It's just enough to keep it off the ground if it were to fall that way.
Does the case scuff your phone at all when taking it off / putting it on? I had a similar case for my N5 back around launch and removing the case and putting it back on eventually scuffed the soft touch plastic. I'm worried it might mark up my 6P's chamfered edges or that tiny plastic bezel on the outside of the glass.
