I think I'm facing a total sleep of death issue... It's not a hard brick, I've done nothing special before.
I was not using it for a while and when I took it, it was totally unresponsive. Black screen, no led when on charge.
Power + vol up has absolutely no effect...
Cannot connect to PC, not possible to get fastboot mode or flashmode.
It seems totally dead.
I hope the waranty will work, but not sure because it the bootloader is unlocked.
Sad day...

I managed to get my z5 replaced ,(the bootloader was unlocked) through these steps
1. state that your phone does not turn on and is dead
2. State as many problems as you can(this will just force them to replace your device rather than repair it)
You could give this a try but no guarantee, the customer service in Singapore is good but I'm not so sure about other countries
It seems android devices randomly die for what ever reason regardless of brand
Anyway have you tried:
- Rubber band holding power and volume up
- Leaving it plugged in to charge for long periods of time

Has your phone ever come into contact with water? Oh and have u tested fastboot mode (volume up after plugging in) and see if it gets detected by your computer(fastboot devices), of it does it might just be a display issue
Look your best bet is to connect it using usb on a laptop or a pc, idk if it is a related case but my galaxy gear was left for about months without usage some people suggested that this a defect and to fix it i need to use usb hub on my pc/laptop to charge it
Try different usb different pc ( cyber / intetnet cafe) ti charge it i hope i will be able to help u

I've received my Z5 today from the Sony repair center (SBE).
The motherboard has been changed.
The positive point is that it has new IMEI and DRM keys and I've backed up my TA partition before unlocking bootloader (with the iovyroot tool, which didn't exist in the early days)
I've restored my twrp backup and all is fine now

The same happened to me. First phone suffered from reboots.
My replacement is fine but I still haven't root it, so I blamed it on the root process.
Is yours rooted?
To counter your point..
Original G2X - rebooted a lot but then removing apps, software changes have made it more stable. Usually go 3+ days without a reboot
Replacement G2X (sent back) - rebooted just like my first one so i didn't even bother removing apps. SAME BATTERY AS ORIGINAL!
I also think it's mainly the battery which is what you're seeing by getting a replacement. I think some batteries don't charge properly so there are times when the voltage drops too much to sustain the phone causing a lock/reboot. I've been monitoring my phone and the more I think about it the more I realize most of my reboots happen after I had taken it off the charger at 100%. I can use it without charging it and it never reboots. Also battery monitor widgets, etc. cause reboots which all comes back to a bad battery or horrible battery driver which CM devs have already said existed.
After months of being in denial about the same problem which has plagued the O2X since launch, a couple of weeks ago LG Europe acknowledged the problem publicly and said it was software.
http://translate.google.com/transla...alligevel-problemer-med-optimus-2x,lid.15324/
Here's the post on the O2X forum that discusses the problem in gory detail. Interestingly, it says the Atrix is having a similar issue which could certainly point to the processor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041546
The rebooting is a software issue. The only time my phone rebooted was when I installed an app (Fring). After I uninstalled it, no issues.

Neither were rooted. Also, rooting in and of itself is incidental; it would not affect the issue as rooting does not change any of the kernel files.

I guess I have been one of the lucky ones. I bought my phone on the 22nd and have never had a reboot or lock up happen. Also my lcd bleeding is pretty minimal. Im still exchanging my phone for a new one because the little black piece of plastic that covers the camera just fell off one day plus I have a dead pixel on the screen that driving me nuts.

It is not the root process. I thought the same thing the first night after I rooted. The phone would not stay on for more than 5 minutes. The store rep did not believe me and tried his sim card and sure enough after five minutes sitting on the counter it turned off and only by pulling the battery was he able to get is re-started. Some of the phones are screwed up. Swap it. My new one is running great except for the battery life.

Although I often manually reboot the phone. I haven't seen one single auto-reboot or freeze, before or after root. So I don't think root is the cause of auto-reboot.
All bloatware are there and running, sometimes I manually close CarHome and TeleNav after reboot, sometimes I forget to do so.
From what I've seen, auto-reboot does look like a hardware problem. To be more specific, those devices are defective.

I think its HW. If its SW it doesn't explain why one phone would reboot and a replacement would not.

My 2nd phone has no auto shutdown yet, but I am using new sim card. My ex G2X was using the old sim card.
My week old today G2x, 4/11/11 build, has never rebooted by itself. The only problems I'm having are flaky behavior switching wifi calling on and off automatically and some back light bleed.
As for how one phone reboots and others don't, it could be software or not. In order to really know for sure you would have to be absolutely certain you had the exact same apps installed in the exact same order, be in the same location at the same time and under the same conditions and loads.

Hello people
I have a problem with my sensation, first off i havent rooted or unlocked or flashed anything on this phone it is as i got it,i went to look at the time last night on it and was met by this rather colorful pixelated snow screen instead of my phone desktop screen.
I have turned it off and on and the same screen comes up,i have taken the battery out and the sim and memory card and tried replacing the battery without the sim/memcard and the same thing happens.
I have tried factory resettiing by holding the volume nutton down and holding the power button but it does not go into the bootloader menu screen, it does nothing until i let go of the power button and then it just goes back to the snowy screen of evil!!
Any ideas or soloutions PLEASE!
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

Had it for about 5 months, the problem is i replaced my glass digitizer because it got smashed,so im pretty sure my warrantys void
Thanks for the reply
some life!
Ok i have an update.
The phone is now booting up but still with the snowy effect, this happened after just randomly swiping the screen and the incorrect lock code entered screen suddenly appeared!
After random screens from the carousel appeared and froze and then unfroze i managed to factory reset the phone, this has made no difference to the snowy screen that comes back at random although more so when the screen times out.
The fact that everything is still going on behind the snow would indicate a hardware malfunction yes?
Could this be down to the digitizer that i put on the phone which i have had the usual unresponsiveness issues with as talked about so much on here.
I was thinking about taking the phone apart agin and rechecking all the cables etc are connected properly then making sure all the contacts are correctly connecting and seal it properly this time as i got quite a build up o dust between the digitizer and lcd on my first attempt.
Do you guys think this is the next logical step or have any better ideas?
here is a pic of the snow:

Well your problem seems to be the screen or the gpu. If you are lucky they won't even notice the digitizer. Just demand a new one and dont accept it to be repaired. ...

I have the same problem
I have the same problem, my phone won't boot up and it just has a colored snowy screen. It happened when my nephew was playing a game on it then the phone just froze. I tried turning it off and it wouldn't so I took out the battery and booted it up without being able to see the logo or anything it just boots up straight to this pixelated snow screen. Is this an lcd problem or a gpu problem? I found an lcd replacement that I considered buying but then i thought it could be something else.
I have not rooted or flashed my phone nor did i damage it in anyway physically. So could this be a software problem maybe?
I tried flashing a new rom, but wouldn't I need to turn on USB debugging in the options menu? I can't access the options menu because I can't see behind the snow. Any help will be appreciated!
P.S. I will post a video later today of the problem.

Some developments in my situation. I used Airdroid to connect my htc to the computer (like a blind man navigating). On the computer I could see the normal screen as if nothing happened. After a few flips of the screen, all of a sudden my HTC screen went back on.
When I got the snowy screen the mobile was working with GPS and navigation...maybe it's a Rom problem. Going to Flash it again and report if it doesn't solve it.
Flashing new Rom worked for me.
Before Flashing the Rom I tried to disconnect all the screen connector's and reconnecting them back (very carefully!) but it didn't help.
Same issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375224
Unfortunately its a hardware issue.. I live in Ecuador so HTC is not supported in my country.. im sending it to USA for repair lol....

I Have used the factory reset option in privacy option and as usual the the phone restart in console mode and after doing the resetting it came back. But the programs i have installed before reset the phone is still shown in the phone , though while oppening it shows some error. And also I can not delete any files or folders from my internal SD card. Whenever I delete some file at time it shows that it has been deleted But after restarting the phone I can see every bit of file stays.
Is this problem of any Software or hardware?
Please give ur Feedback.
it's sw for me
try to make a full wipe by recovery
Can i ask why you have to factory reset? Maybe just flash your firmware again and its good as new.
New Problem Arise
Any way that problem has been solved when I given to the phone customer care and they change the motherboard of my phone. But A new problem arises after 3 days.. My phone automatically tries to resetting(yes resetting not restarting) but can not compliting the process.. after showing the logo it goes back to display the samsung preview and this keep looping continuously until remove the battery. After put the battery and switch on the mobile it shows that initial set up for the phone just as receiving a new phone. After completing this I entered the phone And A SHOCKER... My contacts and messages are gone... But surprisingly all my downloaded application is still there.... I have FACTORY RESET my phone two time but this problem continues. What shall I do??
Well, the same thing happened to me! At first your internal SD Card failed (unable to write to SD) that is why your files were coming back after reboot. They kind of become permanent.
Now, you are having the notorious Pseudo-Reset Bug (again hardware problem). Samsung is either using cheap internal SD cards or they are just not concerned about the overall quality of the hardware. The repair takes a lot of time eating up the warranty time and causing data loss.
I got tired of it, therefore I created this thread here.
Try this code.

IMO, the mb will carry the bulk of the cost of the phone. Thus I think a new phone is more worth it. This are just my thoughts, maybe wait for someone else's thoughts on the cost

I think u should fire on samsung people. Because in warranty period the hardware they have provided u is of no quality. So it doesnt matter that ur warranty is over or not.
Its their duty that they provide good quality service & hardware in warranty. So tell thrm that if they will not solve the problem then u will file a case against them in consumer court.

Just joking, good for you that you got it resolved. But it's a recurring issue might creep in anytime to anybody then I doubt they'll replace it again.
After many hurdle I have got my phone. [ though hardly its my phone now, except the outer case. My phones mb changed twice. Camera, screen, earpice also changed]. Now after using this one month problems occuring again. Now the problem in my screen. Once the phone in sleep when i taped the home key it alive but its unresposive to touch and eventually goes back to sleep. But if i prees the power key to alive the screen then it resposive to my touch. And the touch works absolutely fine. In fact i am sending this post using my phone. Does anyone knows about this incident?? Or I am the first one to get this???

Hello and good morning..:crying:..my Nexus s I9023 with JB 4.1.1, stock, had a frozen Display and didn`t react to the powerbutton so i pulled the battery....and guess, what.....it doesn`t turn on anymore!! I had the battery out all night...nothing! ...put it on the charger...nothing!....eaven the pc does not recognise my Nexus...! ...what can I do?? btw....searched the Forum and did this "plug in USB, press volume up and down, slide in Battery, hold for 5 sec. ....nothing!!! HEEEEELLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not an expert, but it seems a serious hardware problem.
As far as I know, there are for ways to switch on the nexus s.
1) ordinary power button
2) power button + vol up
3) vol up + vol down
4) plug in USB charger
The third method puts the phone in download mode, and Odin needs to be used. You have to look for the thread on how to restart the phone with a broken power button
Best wishes

if it is still in warranty send to the seller and if u are lucky u can have a new nexus s
....if there is no other option i will do that!!
If the screen does not turn on displaying the battery icon when you plug the charger to the usb, it may mean that they battery is completely flat or that the contacts are not working.
If you know someone who owns a nexus then try with another battery and another charger.
In any case, it is definitely better to give it to a service center for warranty replacement. They know how to make it work
Good luck

Exact same thing happened to me this morning! I just tried to send a text, my display blurred and the phone froze. When I pulled the battery it wouldn't turn back on >.<. Hesitant to send in for repairs though. I was running AOKP jb-build 1 and Air-kernel #201. It isn't being recognized by USB so I can't even flash it again. Tried to use the unbrickable resurrection program, but it doesn't get recognized, and I don't want to void the warranty further by opening the phone.
Any suggestions??

are you overclocking the cpu? This happened to me a few times until i finally clued it in my head. I was overclocking at 1400MHz and sometimes when i was using my phone for a while it would get hot and the screen would be all colourful and blurry and then it would freeze and I would have to take the battery out and reboot it
I was overclocking for a bit at a stable 1200 MHz for months, and usually hard resets fixed it. But if I remember correctly, I started using stock voltages and stock speeds with lazy governor a while back. It was stable until today. Usually the hard reset fixes it, but now its not even turning on or being recognized by USB
...wanted you all to know..just got my NS back today...they put in a New mainboard on warranty.l had to update Form 2.3.4 to ics and then to JB..........now i am happy:thumbup:

Hi,
Was using my HTC Sensation the other day, all was working fine I was sending a text message when the phone suddenly went of. I tried to turn it back on but nothing happened, took the battery out and put it back in, tried again and nothing. Couldn't get into bootloader either. Thought it might be the battery so bought a new one but it doesn't work with that one either! When I plug it into my PC Windows sees it as QHSUSB_DLOAD but adb can't see it. Is this a hardware failure? Can it be fixed? So frustrating because if I send it back to HTC they'll see that it's rooted and they won't be happy >.<
If anyone can shed any light on what I should do that'd be great
Thanks in anticipation

Thanks for your reply, I've looked into this and it seems this only applies to devices bricked when trying to S-ON or when flashing hboot, mine just died when I was using it. I've contacted HTC and they are going to repair it for me - fingers crossed they don't notice it's rooted!
You we're only sending a text message and the phone bricked? That's so strange? Keep us posted and let us know how it goes with HTC repair. Did you install anything before you started the text message? Any mod, or anything? I wonder how it suddenly bricked? Or I wonder if it's a sort of hardware failure? I wish you the best and do hope they repair the device without any problems. Let us know how it goes. Best wishes

I was running JBMIUI with Sultan kernel. I was getting wifi problems with the latest build of that kernel so was in correspondence with the developer and was trying an older version of it which was a bit dodgy, maybe it killed a component I dunno! I have read into this QHUSB_DLOAD issue and from what I've heard the device is so bricked that they wont be able to tell it was rooted. Thanks, I really hope so too! Will keep you posted,
Regards,
Luke

I don't see how that could've killed a component . Right now your Sensation is in download mode (all kernels, including mine, put the phone into download mode upon kernel panic). Maybe when your battery died a lot of bad luck happened because when a kernel panic happens the phone should've rebooted after 5 seconds (that's the default timeout for my kernel). Also, all previous and current versions of my kernels are stable and shouldn't cause components to randomly die. Have you looked at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db5f3If-2Jw?

Sorry I didn't mean to cause offence by saying it was dodgy - the only thing that made me say that was the bug that meant that sometimes on r5 the CPU1 would not switch on and you had to reflash the kernel. Damnit, I probably should have had a go at the HTC Unbricking Project before I sent it off to HTC, This I do regret but I sort of panicked and thought the best option was to send it to HTC and hope they fix it. If they spot that it's been rooted they either charge you for the repair or send it back to you and charge £25 in courier costs. If they find it's rooted should I just pay them to fix it or do you think I have a good chance being able to fix it myself with the HTC Unbricking Project? The only reason I didn't embark upon the HTC Unbricking Project was that it explicitly said in the OP that it ONLY worked for devices bricked by switching s-on or flashing hboot, neither of which I was doing when my phone died. With hindsight though I probably should have still given it a try :/
You should do try try the unbrick project as I said earlier before paying HTC as u can pay them even after trying the project.

If there's a chance then you should always take it. If it didn't work then you probably could've bricked it more (maybe pull out the cable while the unbricker was doing something important) to make sure that HTC would never be able to find out that it's rooted. Also, that CPU1 bug only happened when you tried changing CPU governors from the default governor, performance (it happened because the default CPU governor was performance). To fix that you only had to reboot, not reflash the kernel . Good luck

Hehe I think I'm more of a noob than I realise also I don't think it was just the kernel that went into panic mode - I freaked out and just wanted to have my phone back! I'm missing it so much haha let's just hope HTC fix it for free!
I am very lucky

Congrats
Lol. I had the same yesterday. I was playing Asphalt 7 and HTC crashed. (I had a lot of crashes but basically it was able to turn on after 3-5 minutes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35937286) I'm trying to boot it up but my PC recognized it also as QSUSB_DLOAD.
Have they changed motherboard in your device a while ago? Cause they have for me and since that last repair I have these problems.

This is the first time I've sent it to repair. I would try using the HTC Unbrick Project (see previous posts) and if that doesn't work I'd say you're pretty safe to send it to HTC. I would guess there's a been a hardware failure - especially if the device was having to work hard running a game. In which case they won't find out it's been rooted so you shouldn't have to pay.

This is weird that you can get the screen to come on but not get anywhere - on mine it was completely dead - the power button did nothing, pressing power on and vol down did nothing either. What happens when you try to charge it? I couldn't even get a orange charging light. Again this sounds like a faulty component, but I'm no expert on this.
As for trying to fix it yourself I don't think either of you have much chance - if it's still in warranty (mine had 2 years warranty, not sure if that is a UK thing only but considering this phone was only released May 2011 everyone's should still be in warranty) I'd say send it back to HTC. But try the HTC Unbricking project just for peace of mind so you know you can't fix it - I'd say that's your only chance
yeah..its really wierd.at first i could at least go into the bootloader (but not into recovery)...now its just turning on.
i see that the black screen gets a bit brighter (so screen seems on) but it only shows a black screen.
Looks like i need to use my warranty. Hope it isnt a problem that i rooted, but its maybe better that they dont know that :/
Cant afford repair or a new phone. Sucks to be a broke student
I tried HTC Unbricking Project. It couldn't detect my device I had 1-2 crashes per day since last repair, I guess htc did something wrong while replacing the motherboard.
First time I sent them because I had similar problem and now the same happened. Anyways I'm waiting for postman and gonna wait 3-4 weeks again to repair this phone...
Hope they will find damaged component.
