Can't flash full TAR in Odin - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Sprint G900P. It was on Lollipop 5.0
I needed to sim unlock but first I had to downgrade to 4.4.4 so I tried flashing a lot of TAR with odin from everywhere but it didn't work,
I saw a post where a used said I could install a Rom without downgrade the baseband.
So I installed a custom recovery, wipe data then flashed this ROM & Kernel trough recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...t-sm-g860p-t2951239/post57007695#post57007695
It succesfully unlocked sim, but the ROM give me a lot of errors (many apps stopped working, buttons doesn't work)
Now I need to get back to 5.0 or at least a point where the S5 could work good.
Tried flashing Rwilco12 full tars but everytime the Odin says it failed.
Tried a lot of tars but I get the same Odin error. Don't know what else I need to do.
Can someone help?
Here's the odin log

you dont need to downgrade to sim unlock. and it sounds like youre getting bad downloads. Ive also had the instance where the name of the tar.md5 just needed to be changed and it worked. Also, how long it odin taking to load the tarball? It should take about 2 min from the time you select the file until odin is ready to flash, if its anything faster than 60 seconds, then something is wrong. The restore tar.md5s are huge and takes quite a while to load them in odin. Also, are you internationally sim unlocking or domestically?
i just saw your location in mexico, so i assume that you were using the SSU.apk to unlock, which does require the downgrade.

this is a great place to get tar.md5s http://idoneapps.com/forum/index.php?topic=8.0, you just need to register to gain access to the tarballs

Thanks for answering. Yes I'm in Mexico. I used the ssu.apk and it worked great. I didn't downgrade. Actually it is not possible. I have tried like 5 tars and no one seems to work. I have tried difderent versions of Odin and different computers and I still getting the same fail error

also, have you tried getting one of the tar.md5 files from the idoneapps site?

Total Brick after installing MIUI and loosing root & Recovery and flashed to stock
Hi everybody. I hope to catch attention from all Developpers who can and are willing to help.
Here's my situation.
I'm a Rogers Wireless customer with a Samsung Infuse 4G Rooted and running Infused ROM
I Flashed this morning the infuse to the Latest MIUI ROM, everything went fine but I didn't like the ROM so I tried to revert back to the Infused ROM.
What was my surprise when I've discovered that I've lost the Recovery mode as well as I've lost Root Permission....
Then I've tried to flash back to the stock ROM using the "Ultimate Unbrick"
Everything was ok as I know Odin really well. So I've put the files where they should in Odin and Started the process.
The loading bar was stuck for several minutes and finally I reallised it was frozen.
I've Rebooted the phone then I've realised It wasn't even booting a little bit...
Total Black screen and lights off.
The only thing working is the Download mode
But any Odin Manipulation I try seem to fail....
sometime it say:

<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..

This thread will be moved shortly anyway, but I'll say your NAND could be going or corrupted. Was it giving you any kind of problem before? Lots of FC's, things not working right at all....
You didn't actually lose recovery or root. To get to recovery hold the power button and then hit reboot. Then the option to enter recovery will show up. You still have root but you need to activate it by going to Supwruser in the tools folder.

Still Nothing
I've tried Changing USB Port
Tried with 3 Computer
Phone was fine before
I Lost Root...REALLY, Superuser was turned on (even tried off/on to be sure)
Apps that require Root was not working failed to get root
Recovery Mode was not there...I Mean the button was there but it was freezing when I tried to access it. It was only able to boot normaly. Even the 3 button recovery was missing...
Now it's a total brick...only thing that work is the download Mode but I can't flash anything...
I was wondering if the "Ultimate Unbrick" was the problem...not in itself but i'm a Rogers Customer with a Rogers Version so maybe the "Ultimate Unbrick" is only made for AT&T....
Think there is a different version for at&t and rogers

Never saw a Rogers Version. Anyone can point it me out if so?
I'm Making Progress!!! (but still not booting)
Using this Package made specificly for Rogers Samsung Infuse 4G,
I Flashed the phone. It loader almost everything but the kernel....
So when it was loading the Kernel I Closed Odin and Rebooted the phone
(I know this is not recommended)
Now I got something Saying:
"Firmware Upgrade encoutered an issue.
Please select Recovery mode in Kies & try Again"
And I got an image of a phone and computer screen with a "!" sign in a yellow triangle in between
Thing I'm trying right now is to flash PDA_Infused_Gingerbread_Kernel_v1.tar.md5
separatly in odin. It's taking forever to load but it is loading (almost 45-50 minutes since i've started this attempt.
I'm gonna let it go no mather how long it take and i'll let you know as soon as it's done.
By the way, in Kies, when I wanted to try Emergency Recovery it said in a Popup screen:
"Please enter the recovery code from the previous PC
to run emergency recovery"
Is someone know what this mean and what is this recovery code and from witch previous pc it's talking about (never installed Kies on that PC and this phone never been connected to a kies enabled PC...
Phone is now working!!!!!!
My ROGERS infuse is now Back online...
So to resume
I've Flashed this package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193927
First time it stuck at kernel...
Attempted to Flash separately an alternate Kernel:
PDA_Infused_Gingerbread_Kernel_v1.tar.md5 (It's the Infused Kernel)
Infused Kernel Failed to instal,
Then I've installed ADB all all the packages....
Then with Odin in XP compatibility (I have Win7 pro 64) I Flashed
The first package
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193927)
That Time It went throught 100%
Phone Rebooted and i'm on the Stock Rogers ROM...
Now let's infuse this thing one more time ;-)
It took me 48 hours but I hope This post will help someone one day...
Don't forget it's for a SAMSUNG INFUSE 4G FROM ROGERS
I had the same exact problem as you, except it was with my AT&T Infuse.
My solution was to just keep trying to Odin to stock with GTG's Ultimate Unbrick. It kept freezing when I tried flashing. After unplugging/replugging the phone to my PC/Laptop with a few combinations I eventually got it to stop freezing and get all the way through the flashing process.

[Q] Help, please! I997 randomly shuts off during Odin stock flash.

After a bad flash, I tried to flash to stock with Odin. The first flash worked perfectly, but after setting up my Google accounts etc, my phone would shut down and the flash would be bag again. Now when Try to flash stock again, it will sometimes work, but then the aforementioned problem would show itself again, or it would shut down in the middle of flashing. Sometimes it would go into a boot loop, after clearing user-data and cache and rebooting, it would again not boot up.
1. I am running in admin, and off of Win7
2. I can get it into download mode just fine.
3. I have the proper drivers downloaded.
4. This is what happens in Odin,

I get stuck in a boot loop after installing Odin's. I found a way to actually have a custom Rom by using this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381, then flashing Galnet's MIUI for infuse with CWM. It works but I feel the Rom is clunky. Any other Rom I try gets stuck into a boot loop.
I am a real big fan of galnets miui. It usually runes just fine. What I do is give it a few minutes to settle and oc it to 1.6. I don't UV it because then it starts o act clunky. How are you trying to flash roms and what roms? If you are trying to flash leaked roms that are out right now u need gingerbread boatloaders that's why u cud be having bootloops. One time I had to reformat my internal and extra SD card to get things to work right. I also don't like using titanium backup or anything to backup stuff because it has made my phone run slow unless I'm just updating a from that requires a wipe. It seems some roms read ext4 diff or something and doesn't reinstall right when u restore ur phone.

[Q] Need help with a soft brick (ODIN doesn't work)

I have been researching this problem for a while now and I have read all sorts of threads from forums in every corner of the Internet, but I'm still completely stuck. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What I have is a SCH-i535 Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III (the model # behind the battery actually says SCH-i535V). It belonged to a friend of mine who announced he would be going "Office Space" on it after it stopped functioning. Seeing an opportunity, I asked if I could have it. This friend used his phone solely for regular Internet browsing, texting and email. He never flashed anything custom and it has never been rooted. As of this writing, download mode reports:
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System status: Official
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
For the record, I don't know any details about the exact version of Android the phone ran before it failed (but I'm operating under the assumption that it ran 4.1.2).
When I first received the phone, it wouldn't get past the "Samsung Galaxy S III" boot screen. It also will not boot into recovery. It will, however, boot into download mode. Therefore, I booted it into download mode, hooked it up to Odin 3.09, downloaded the latest stock firmware from sammobile, and attempted to flash via Odin. Every time I try to do this via Odin 3.09 or 3.07, Odin hangs on the "Initializing" step and does nothing. Samsung drivers are installed, and Odin definitely recognizes the device.
I began researching and came across the Sudden Death Syndrome thread here, which is caused by eMMC failure. My symptoms sounded like the "Half SDS" symptoms in that thread (You cannot boot into android or recovery. It fails at the boot screen, but the screen does turn on none-the-less. The only; thing you can do is top boot into Download mode.). However, I believe SDS affects only the international versions of the SGS3, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thus, I wrote SDS off.
Next, I attempted to use Kies to restore the phone. Using Kies, I used the firmware upgrade/recovery tool. It went through its thing, asked for my model number and IMEI, then downloaded the proper firmware. When it came time to install, however, it told me that it could not communicate with my device. Since then, when I power the phone on, instead of the Samsung boot screen, it now displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." Download mode still works, however.
After reading about Odin issues, I tries using older versions of Odin. When I tried to flash the stock firmware using Odin 3.04, rather than hang on "initializing" like the later versions, 3.04 specifically says that there is no PIT partition. Ah, another clue! So I went in search of what the hell this means. By the way, I also tried different USB cables, different computers, different USB ports, popping the battery in and out, standing on one leg and clucking like a chicken, sacrificing a virgin, you name it. After trying Kies, I uninstalled it, and I double checked task manager. Kies is not running the background during my Odin attempts.
I finally found a 16GB PIT file for the SCH-i535 and downloaded it. I loaded it in Odin along with the "re-partition" option checked, and that's also a no go. The write just fails without any particular explanation. Just says "Complete(Write) operation failed. All threads completed (succeed 0 / failed 1). I even tried Odin 1.85, but same result.
I looked into JTAG, but that appears to be necessary if the phone is completely unresponsive and all it does is get you back into download mode. Well, I already have download mode, I just can't do anything with it. This leads me to believe my device is soft bricked, and not hard bricked.
I also followed a couple of tutorials that incorporate flashing bootchains using Odin (like the one here), but Odin wouldn't flash those either.
TL;DR version: ODIN won't write anything to my phone in download mode, and Kies can't do anything either.
I'm at the end of my rope. Short of an actual eMMC failure, I can't see any reason why this phone would be permanently bricked or why ODIN refuses to cooperate. Can anyone suggest anything?
One time bump.
That certainly is cause to go "Office Space" on it. I applaud your patience. However, I do not believe you are experiencing a Hard Brick. It certainly is frustrating that ODIN is not cooperating, but if it were Hard Bricked, I don't believe Download Mode would work. As far as flashing a pit file, aren't these included in Official ODIN firmware files?

After I updated to 4.3 Odin wouldn't flash anything other than one 4.0.4 root66 tar. Perhaps you upgraded to 4.3 and that is why you are having troubles.

What file did you flash in Odin because you need to Odin flash the 4.3 VRUCML1 image with Odin if your phone can still turn on.

Thanks, I had no idea what this thing needed. I tried stock.vzw_root66.tar and the guide here: androidayos.com/2012/09/19/fix-bricked-galaxy-s3-i535-verizon-unbrick-and-restore-guide/[/url]

You two should try jodin3. It will work for windows if you have java installed. Check the md5 outside of odin /jodin3 for the vrucml1 tar ball before just in case you have a bad download. In case you missed it the link for jodin3 is at the top end of the soft debrick guide.
---------- Post added at 09:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 AM ----------
You can also try heimdall but it can be a pain because you need to extract everything from the tarball and add it in one by one. You also need to use a separate program to select the driver.

You two should try jodin3. It will work for windows if you have java installed. Check the md5 outside of odin /jodin3 for the vrucml1 tar ball before just in case you have a bad download. In case you missed it the link for jodin3 is at the top end of the soft debrick guide.

I have the exact symtoms and have tried everything suggested but odin and jodin3 writes nothing to my device. Has anyone found a way to get past this? Any help would be much appreciated.

I feel like there has been one or two solutions for this problem. I cant remember what they are so youll need to dig for them. One solution seemed odd and possibly dangerous. The other seemed like it got to the root of the problem and fixed it. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Thanks for your quick response.
I have been digging through this forum for weeks and will continue to do so until I find something that works for me. That said, if you happen to remember what that fix that got to the root of the problem please let me know. It just seems like the phone is not granting write permissions to anything (multiple versions of odin, jodin3, verizon repair utility, kies) from download mode or "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..." screen and if I could just adjust/override those that I can flash successfully.
Thanks again for your help

[Q] Unbricking i9506?

Hi,
So I got the i9506 and since I've played around with my i9100 for a couple of years rooted, I decided to root my i9506 too. Before doing so, the phone installed 4.3 via OTA. I've been unrooting i9100 over and over while installing custom ROMs and so forth.
But now as I was trying to root my i9506, a problem struck. As I was flashing the Philz FW, it failed and now I'm stuck with "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.". Well that's a mighty good idea, but for some reason Kies does not recognize my phone. I googled and and some other people have this problem too and I'm yet to find a solution with Kies.
So I arrived to XDA, once again, and tried looking for a solution. Found this topic and already hoped that I was saved. But either my understanding of the whole thing isn't enough or it doesn't have the solution for me, I just couldn't get my phone fixed.
So now I'm stuck with the "Firmware encountered an issue..." screen and I don't have a way out. Could someone please help me out?
Any help is much appreciated!
PS: I'm from Finland.
I downloaded the stock roms 4.2.2 and 4.3 from sammobile and tried those as well, but no help.
Odin always fails when trying to flash something.
Tried with Odin 1.85 after multiple failed attempts with 3.09.
I always get this log, no matter what I pick as the bolded option:

Do I need a PIT file and if so, is there a certain file I need or am I supposed to use a tool like PIT Magic?
My phone still says the following so I'm not sure my warranty is voided altogether:
Product name: GT-I9506
Current binary: Samsung Official
System status: Official
Knox kernel lock: 0x0
Knox warranty void: 0x0
Resolved.
I was using another microUSB cable to do the job, but after changing to new white cable that came with the phone, it passed! Now all's back to way it used to be before all the trouble. Even my phone name and all are intact.

Galaxy S6 (SM-S906L) Crash

My phone galaxy S6 (SM-S906L) is locked on the recovery boot screen, it connects to Odin, but I can not find a ROM or Firmware for this specific phone. Somehow it completely formatted the OS. It last reported before crashing to be an Android 5.0.2 while rooted. Looking it up says it was 5.1. I now have a 600$ paperweight. It's also a Straight Talk phone. Any help to get it back to stock or with a custom ROM to get it working again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Saw some XDA chatter where someone says they put the Verizon S6 firmware on the phone, but no further details. If it's pooched anyway, that might be the option to try.

I have been trying different ones, and it says it's missing a file. I have tried about 6 of them and haven't found one to work. Maybe they will see this and shoot a link to the one they used.

There are a lot more, even when I try to flash install it says it is missing the META-INF file.
. PIT mismatch? I don't know if I'd start playing around with that. You could get the PIT from your phone, rip the TAR apart, and flash sections separately... Or...
Well, I found a site where you can *pay* to download the stock firmware, looks like under $20 USA. It's up to you. There's a drop-down, top left corner, for English.
http://a2phone.ir/index.php?file=/Samsung Flash Files/S Series/S906L - Galaxy S6 Firmware
Good luck.
