With the S2 having Tap & Pay (NFC) I was trying to get it to use Android Pay, but I can't figure this out. If the S2 is waiting for Samsung Pay, my S2 will be waiting awhile because I have a Note Edge on Verizon. Anybody get this to work?
I think Verizon is sending out an OTA update for Samsung Pay support. The other issue is waiting for Samsung to send out an update to the watch itself for Samsung Pay support.

I would be very surprised if the S2 supports Android Pay. I don't think it will happen considering Samsung has its own very good payment system. I've been using Samsung Pay for over a month now and it's great. I think Samsung Pay support for the S2 will be coming sometime in November.
I tried using my S2 at Walgreens where I've often used my Nexus 5 to pay. Had nfc turned on on S2, but it didn't work. Only tried it once, so no idea if it was a glitch, or isn't supported.

It won't work until Samsung issues the firmware update.
I don't have the link, but I read that Samsung Pay is not coming until November.
Why will it not work for Android Pay? Samsung Pay is great and all, but it was made for NFC & MTC and the S2 can only do NFC. do you think the Edge or s2 will get update to where you can choose?
I wish listed the Samsung Pay app but it doesn't work with my bank or Phone! thnks Samsung!!!

Easy. Imagine you made a great payment system. And imagine a company, competing with it. You also made an awesome watch that can handle mobile payments. Now think, will you work with competitor to setup a way to send payment data over bluetooth, over your own API to the watch, or are you going to do it to your own payment system, with your own engineers?
It's pointless for them to open it up to competitor. Yes, it will make sense from consumer standpoint, but not from manufacturer. Why open up to others, while you can just swing your userbase numbers around.
Anybody with a rooted phone try out Samsung Pay via the Gear S3? I have the S7 edge and haven't rooted it because I like using Samsung Pay, but if the watch can do it by itself then maybe I can root my phone and enjoy Samsung Pay all in one. Wondering if anyone wants to give it a shot if it hasn't been tested, I would but I'm waiting for Verizon to start selling it, not sure when that will be...
Thanks for the replies and/or help.
**Edit**
Recently Samsung pay for the gear now detects root. Here's the latest as of 11 April 2017:

after looking at what version of Samsung pay had on the watch which was 1.3.1703, I was able to find an apk from sammobile for version 1.2.5202. After downloading that version and I had to manually uninstall Samsung Pay through your phone settings and application manager or installing the older apk on top of the newer one would fail, I was able to access Samsung pay with no problems on my phone and was able to add back my card like i was able to do before. after adding my card I was able to blanch Samsung pay on my Watch but due to my watch Samsung pay version being higher than my phone version due to when Samsung pay updated before, it wouldn't let me use Samsung pay until my phone version was back to version 1.3.1703. but I was able to access Samsung pay on my watch with my cards showing up now. I haven't tried to see if it works but I assume that since the card is on the watch now It should work now. ill attach the older apk for anyone else to try.

I am rooted, getting an S3, was exactly about to post this question. I don't know if I can install Samsung pay on the S3 with rooted phone....
Guess I'll find out.

you cant install it on the gear3 cause it have to be setup on the phone first so maybe unless you unroot and set it up and then re-root it might stick and work idk

I wanted to know this exactly too. If the Gear s3 samsung pay works with rooted samsung phone this will be an instabuy for me. I'm quite hopeful since Samsung pay for gear s3 is supposed to work with non samsung phones which don't have knox to begin with.
Do let us know the answer when you find out for yourself! Would be very grateful.
I haven't received my Gear S3 yet, but I have a Gear S2 with Samsung Pay setup up in the Gear Manager (it's a separate app from the phone Samsung Pay app). It works perfectly on my rooted Note 4 (which doesn't run Samsung Pay itself), so I suppose it will work the same way after I get the S3.
I think it depends if your root method triggers KNOX. Samsung Pay looks to see if KNOX has been tripped and if it has, you can't add cards. Since you need to setup cards on your phone before you can use them on the watch, you won't be able to use Samsung Pay on the watch either.

Yes that's true for Samsung pay on samsung phones. Apparently however the gear s3 samsung pay uses a separate app on the phone.

That's a good sign. Do update us when you've had a chance to try on the s3!
I have a rooted Galaxy S5, I haven't been able to add a card through Gear Manager. Does it not work since I have a non-compatible samsung pay app phone or is it because its rooted? I heard that samsung pay won't work for android 4.4 and above till they release an update for samsung pay so I'm hoping that is why I can't add a card.
It seems to work with rooted phones. I have a rooted lg v20 and was able to install and set up samsung pay on the watch. I set it up with a card but havent tried it out on a terminal since its really late. But seems like it works perfectly.

Good Morning
You who have the watch, can you tell me if the Portuguese language is available?
I just updated the plugin app and was able to install Samsung Pay on my rooted Nexus 6. I have the T-mobile LTE Gear S3. I was also able to add three cards. Now I just need to make sure I can actually buy something.

That's great news! Would be perfect if anyone with a rooted Samsung phone (ideally one which would be able to run the phone SPay if it hadn't been rooted) could confirm this though. It's entirely possible though unlikely that the Gear SPay works differently on non-Samsung phones.
I have an S7 edge with Knox tripped and I cannot install Samsung pay. Has anybody else been successful?

Samsung pay for the watch or phone? Also do you live somewhere where Samsung pay may not be available? Only reason I ask is because the way to root for the US versions doesn't trip Knox.
I have the international version with custom recovery Etc, knox is definitely tripped and I'm in the US. It won't install on the phone or the watch when paired to the phone.

I am thinking there might be away to install Samsung pay with another phone or device to the watch then use the watch with the rooted phone afterwords.

I tried that, and it makes you reset the watch to connect to another phone, but if there either way please let me know

You have the F firmware, the US international is the U firmware. Maybe you'd have to change your CSC to an area where Samsung pay works.

I have an S3 that it's working on, but i'm curious if I can install the app on my phone to be able to take advantage of promotions offered only from the app?? I found the apk and installed it, but it would not open.
When you pair a Samsung smartwatch or band Samsung manifests all the data required for the app to appear in the Play Store and work. So as a meatspace workaround you could buy an old, cheap Samsung wrist device that supports Pay and pair it.

I am using my gear S3 with a Google pixel 2 XL and am able to use the app on my phone. When you open the app in the Wear, it should prompt you to download the companion. I can't pay with my phone, but the promotions are available thru the Wear app
I am using my Gear S3 Frontier with a rooted OnePlus 6T and I am able to access the promotions through the Galaxy Wearable app and pay with Samsung Pay from my phone. I am able to use Samsung Pay by hiding the Samsung Play Watch plug-in in Magisk using Magisk Hide.
Hi my gear s2 is up-to-date and the gear app is too but I see no option for Samsung pay only thing I can think off is that I am using with a non samsung phone is this right? However the S3 works with pay on non Samsung phones.
My Gear S2 is paired to a Nexus 6P and I have Samsung Pay. Is your phone rooted? If it is, that might be the reason why Samsung Pay is not showing up. Mine is rooted with Magisk and Samsung Pay works just fine.
Phone is not rooted it's a one plus 5.

You must have software on your phone that is deemed insecure or more likely its been a while since security updates were installed. Check for updates, it's possible that updates exist that haven't been installed. Essentially it would be an encryption certificate that is out of date.
You could also resolve this issue by upgrading the ROM on the S3 to a slim ROM, there may be other viable options if you search XDA forums. If you install a custom ROM ensure that you root it only using Magisk which will allow the phone to pass safety net.

I don't have a s3 I have an S2 and can't find any updates for it or the apps.
I currently have a Pixel 2 so Samsung Pay isn't an option for me but I want to get a Gear S3.
Can you use Paypal as your payment app with the Gear S3? I've looked everywhere and can't find an answer one way or the other.
No it doesn't work and only samsung pay is the only option for payment. Also you don't need a samsung phone to use samsung pay. If you live in a country were samsung works for the watch then you can use samsung pay as your payment with your pixel 2 just fine as samsung pay on the watch can work on non samsung phones. If your phone is rooted then there might be problems.
Samsung Pay works fine on my Pixel 2, even rooted with Magisk...
It's also way better than Apple or Android Pay
