Adventures of Mana for Android [XPOptimized] [2.3+] - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

New square game port optimized for the Play!
Adventures of Mana is a a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure/Mystic Quest/Sword of Mana
face buttons are recognized as ABXY as indicated on screen. Gamepad mode 1 and 2 switches between (A confirm) (B cancel) and vice-versa
although for me there are some strange black and white square borders for overlay android dialogues, like "loading", "type character name" etc. for some reason that keeps me from resuming the game after locking the screen.
i cant post links in the forum yet, just google Adventures of Mana Google Play

Out of pure curiosity, I dropped by to see if people were still posting about games supporting the Xperia Play and I am pleasantly surprised! More often than not I miss playing Android games on my XP as I was never able to set my PS3 controller on my later phones. Godspeed, Xperia Play. ;_;7

I jest, I jest... this game is awesome... even moreso now that it's been lifted from the virtual gamepad ghetto to a place where we have REAL game controls.
I tried using the controls the other day but the attack function wasn't working Do you have success with this?
Edit: Actually it works on this game... Gun Bros attack doesn't do jack from the gamepad... Alas both games are very similar... just swords vs. guns.

Yeah, before the optimization, it actually did work with Xperia PLAY controls, but it wasn't complete... so tapping parts of the right analog controlled attacking instead of the face buttons.
Now it works with the face buttons the way people would think it should (X for Attack, Square for special, etc).
As for Gun Bros... that's been Xperia PLAY Optimized for a long time, so it's weird if you have issues with it. That's a straight up two-stick arcade shooter, controlling just like Age of Zombies.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but if I have a d pad and the character is supposed to move, why can't he move with the damned d pad???? And why can't I set up the controls? The pseudo analogs are absolutely useless for moving the character!
my god! this will eat all your RAM!!!
uninstalled!
i'm sorry to put this thread back up again... but did anyone find a solution to the ram problem? I mean, the fact that there is an "offline notification manager" and a pushservice running in the background even after you exit the game.
always had lag in this game on my play

Scrolling Shooters?

What are the best scrolling shooters available that work with the XPlay controls? I've given R-Type a go and was wondering what others recommend
AirAttack HD Make sure it's the Xperia PLAY version!
There's also a game called Overkill. It's not specifically Xperia PLAY Optimized, but it works perfectly with the D-pad and X to shoot.
scrolling shooters? oh there are dozens but here are my favourites(long time STG fan.-)
for some shooting goodness fire up FPSE Emulator and get the following PS One Games:
-Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus(Salamander 1+Lifeforce AND Salamander 2 included,Salamander 2 is just great!)
-Gradius Deluxe Pack(Gradius 1+2,classic but i personally prefer Salamander)
-Gradius Gaiden(best of all Gradius imho, japan release only, nice graphics, much more accesible than classic Gradius)
-Parodius Deluxe Pack(Parodius 1+2,classic)
-Sexy Parodius(completely whack+hillarious..)
-R-Type Delta(best ps one shooter,period)
-R-Types(R-Type 1+2)
-G-Darius(some twisted shooting action with different paths, long bossbattles and psychedelic style graphics thrown in)
-Einhänder(the only Squaresoft Shooter,still great)
-Thunder Force Verfect System(great!)
on Genesis i highly recommend Contra:Hard Corps(they should have named it Contra:Hard Core, its really a challenge, its contra on speed) and Gunstar Heroes, intense shooting action, also the Thunder Force Series,on SNES Axelay is great also the SNES Contra
Neo Geo:Last Resort(great R-Type like Style,very challenging),Aero Fighters(Sonic Wings),Pulstar,Viewpoint(isometric unique style but frustrating),Shock Troopers(really really great one!),Metal Slug 1-5,Ninja Commando
Tiger Arcade(CPS2):Mars Matrix,Giga Wing,Progear no Arashi,Ecofighters,1944 The Loop Master
and finally if you want to see something very intense and weird or just for the fun:
fire up an NES emulator and get the game RECCA:Summer Carnival 92.its an japanese game especially made back in 1992 for a shooting game competition called summer carnival.thats just insane what they did with the very limited NES hardware, you won`t believe that this is a NES game:there are a mass amount of ultra fast bullets and enemies with no slowdowns, huge bosses and the music is great also the stages backgrounds are really tripping you out,its an adrenaline bomb-)
no actual games will give you the joy and challenge of those oldschool shooters, trust me..and finally, thats what the xperia play is for:emulation .-) when i see such half assed ports like R-Type where there is no option for turning off this touch overlay even with "xperia play optimized" stamp..really better to emulate
There is a port of Tyrian on the market. You have to configure the controls through a non obvious interface, but it is probably one of the best vertically scrolling shooters ever made.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
As above.
Psone:
R-type Delta
Einhander
Snes:
Super R-type
R-type 3
Tigermame:
R-type
R-type 2
R-type Leo
Let me add for SNES:
Axelay
Darious Twin

Now you are my favourite person on the whole internets.
i tried to make it work via dos emulators, but never worked.
just like Raptor: Call of shadows, wich is my fav dos based shooter. Somehow you can make it work on android, with full controls, but i never found the way to do it.

what app/rom setup do you use to get this working? looks like a good one
Blazing star is awesome, as is Pulstar (both NeoGeo). Dont forget theres GigaWing (CPS2) All three of these games, and many more, are playable on the awesome emulator Tiger Arcade Game Emulator, or TigerMame on the android market. Remeber though you must have the original games in order to have the roms. I only remember these games because I dumped enough quarters into the arcade games as a teen... Oh and if you like the Turbo-Grafx 16, Sinistron is pretty good, not as good the above ones but still fun.
So in a nutshell:
NeoGeo:
Blazing Star
Pulstar
CPS2: (Capcom Play System 2)
Gigawing 1 & 2
hmm tiger arcade is giving me graphics issues and control issues. I see the text and coin graphics but nothing else... also cant seem to map the controls to the xpderia pad. ah dear
What version of Tiger Arcade do you have? Mine works flawlessly on my xplay.
My settings for Tiger Arcade. V 2.2.0
Orientation: Landscape
Scaling Mode: Stretched
Key Mappings:
-Up - Dpad up
-Down - Dpad down'
-Left - Dpad left
-Right - Dpad right
-Coin - Select button (next to srat)
-Start - start obviously
Button A - X
Button B - Circle
Button C - Square
Button x - Triangle
its the one currently on their site:
http://apps.tigerplay.net/
the apk download says 3.0.3 but my phone is charging so I cant see if thats the version listed in the app itself

hehe some CAVE goodness..there are many CAVE bullet hell/manic shooters, main problem is:they are mostly vertical/TATE shooter and this is unfortanetly too small on xperia plays screen, you simply can`t concentrate on the ships hitbox(except Progear no Arashi which was made together with Capcom and is a horizontal shooter)
but if you want some really manic shooting i strongly recommend to fire up a pc mame emulator, for instance there is a extra lagless SHMUPMAME version, you can grab it on SHMUPS.COM,turn your monitor to vertical and try
-Donpachi(classic)
-Dodonpachi(my favourite till today,beautiful drawn sprites,great soundtrack,big explosions,supernice bulletpatterns)
-Dodonpachi Daioujou(ruthless one,you will throw your controller/stick onto the wall .-)
-E.S.P.rade(first in the "ESP" series)
-Espgaluda 1("easiest" Cave Shooter)
-Ketsui(Hardcore!)
-Guwange(probably the most stylish one if you are into japanese settings and oh boy the music in stage 3..)
-Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS(THE Disco Shooter,fast and frenzy.-)
all of them are great on their own! there are also numerous ports of the newer CAVE games on xbox 360(Mushihimesama Futari,Espgaluda 2,Dodonpachi Resurrection,DeathSmiles 1+2,Pink Sweets/MuchiMuchiPork are the ones that come to my mind).simply put CAVE are the masters of bullet hell shooting .-) i`ve got an old CRT monitor standing vertical with a arcade stick just for all the vertical shooters .-)
and for Blazing Star:yeah i totally forgot that one, really great shooter!
i`m personally really enjoying Mars Matrix and Giga Wing on the Xperia Play cause they have some sort of full screen vertical, which i didnt like on the big screen but for the Xperia Play its perfect, from the ps one games its Gradius Gaiden and the Salamander Deluxe Pack which i like the most.

Shift Puzzle Game... is there a special Xperia Play version?

So one of the many mysteries of trying to database all Xperia Play's games is this elusive set of Glu games that seem to be available only to people on Rogers/Fido networks.
#77. DJ Hero
#78. Build-A-Lot
#83. Family Guy: Uncensored
#84. Guitar Hero 5
#85. Tony Hawk VERT
#86. Doodle Jump
#87. Diner Dash 2
#88. Mini Golf: Wacky Worlds
#89. Shift Lite
#90. Bonsai Blast
#91. Stranded 2
Every time I scroll through the "more games" tab (on the Xperia Play Game Launcher), I end up seeing these games that always lead me to an error page when clicked.
Just to check for integrity, I've purchased some of these only to find that what I see on the Google Play store does not work with Xperia Play's controls. Does anyone know if the Rogers/Fido network are getting special versions of these games or something?

controller app will be updated soon. I'll share with you ma last conversation with Nyko's rep (I've contacted them for a review on the playpad pro)èè
Thank you for contacting us. The most recent version, 4.2, has caused some issues with blue tooth and affects quite a few blue tooth devices, not just the Playpad. If you are running this version, please note that it is a problem on Android's end.
There are two ways of syncing the PlayPad Pro. For it to work with any Tegra game, you must sync the PlayPad directly to the device without using the Playground app. To sync the PlayPad Pro directly to the device without using the app, follow the steps below:
1. Make sure blue tooth is powered on so you can sync the Playpad directly to the tablet without using the app.
2. On the back of the Playpad, move the switch to HID mode (gamepad icon).
3. Hit the ‘home’ button in the middle of the controller once until the light on the top start blinking slowly. Hit it once more, and it should blink rapidly.
4. Pair it in the Bluetooth settings. The device should say “Playpad Pro.”
To configure the controls, simply go to the game menu and select controller settings and change them through there.
To sync the PlayPad Pro with the Nyko Playground app, follow the steps below:
1. Make sure Bluetooth is powered on.
2. Open up the Playground app.
3. Hit the ‘home’ button in the middle of the controller once until the light on the top start blinking slowly. Hit it once more, and it should blink rapidly.
4. Select 'sync' within the app.
Unfortunately, touch mapping is not yet available on the Beta version of the app. We are aware of the various complaints concerning the Playground app and the demand for Touch Mapping Support. We are working tirelessly to resolve these issues in a timely manner, and look to bring the Playground app out of beta with a new release in Q1 2013. We will soon release a firm date when consumers can expect the completed app.
This updated version of the Playground app will address various bugs and usability issues as well as adding Simple Touch Support. Simple Touch Support will allow users to execute point, click and drag controls with ease on the PlayPad or PlayPad Pro controller.
Due to changes in Android 4.1, we cannot provide Full Touch Mapping support at this time. We are currently investigating several options to bring Full Touch Mapping support to the Playground/PlayPad system, and will provide updates regarding the progress of Full Touch Mapping as we can. In addition, Nyko is approaching developers of the top Android titles to code support for the HID protocol of the PlayPad and PlayPad Pro to maximize the number of titles that inherently support the PlayPad line. It was, and still is our goal, to ensure maximum compatibility of games with the PlayPad line, and we will continue to work towards this end.
Best,
Trudy Panalal

[GAME][4.0+] AlienStorm multiplayer on ShareBox WiFi Play app

AlienStorm is the first of a new kind of multiplayer games, a web game served from an android app ShareBox WiFi Play. This way it allows to be played not only from android devices, but also on iPhones, Chromebooks or any other device or computer with a modern browser connected to the same WiFi (no internet connection needed).
This video shows how easy is to multiplay it: when the AlienStorm button is clicked it offers sharing its URL and automatically opens the browser to begin playing. Sharing the URL through NFC Android Beam is the easiest way between android devices. If more players wants to join, you just need to provide them the same URL that your browser is on, as easy as http ://w.x.y.z:4321/AlienStorm. The ShareBox WiFi Play app server is automatically started in the background.
AlienStorm is like a classical space invaders game with infinite levels and with its easy multiplayer option. The level is won by the player who first reach the points corresponding to the level: 5 for L1, 10 for L2, 15 for L3, ... one point for alien destroyed. Be aware: there are some tinted aliens that may only be destroyed with a bullet of its same color, so you’ll need to press the color buttons on the screen to change your cannon and bullets color to destroy them. You can play solo, but as levels are surpassed you may beg your friends for help to save the Earth!
The AlienStorm game has been opensourced so you may adapt it the way you like and sideload it to the ShareBox WiFi Play app through its “Add files” button.
If you play it, please tell max level reached, number of players and devices played on (Hint: you may also play on a computer with a keyboard!)
Have fun!
