Android Auto Users, what ROM do you use? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've been using Android Auto with Oxygen OS 2.1.4, and have tried using a few different ROM's but they have not worked properly which has made me stick to Oxygen OS since I bought a Pioneer 4100NEX primarily for the use of Android Auto.
That being said, has anyone used a ROM, that still allowed the use of Android auto?
The only issue that I face when using Android Auto and a custom ROM, is that the headunit doesn't get pictured to scale, correctly. I have tried adjusting the Scale or DPI (I forget what it's called) on the phone it self(headunit doesn't have adjustments), but it did not correct the issue..
Thanks in advance!

Hey, I am using Resurrection ROM successfully with android auto. But I do not have aftermarket head unit, my car directly supports it.
I have no problems with picture getting scaled, but sometimes AA freezes and I need to soft reboot the phone to reconnect. Don't know if its faulty ROM or bug in Android auto.

Thanks for the info,
After a quick search of Resurrection, it looks like they don't have DPI adjustments. Which makes me think the scale issue is on the ROM having DPI or no DPI adjustment.....
As far as AA freezing, I had issues with some roms freezing requiring a soft reboot, or reconnect. It happened at the same time the scale issue was happening, so I thought it was just the ROM.. That being said, I'll get some freezing requiring a reconnect with Oxygen OS.... But this happens once in a blue moon.

I have a OPO running CM13.1 in a Hyundai using Android Auto. I'm curious: do you see the issue with Android Auto disconnecting from USB?

I was using Sultans CAF CM 13.0 Build with my OPO. Which I loved and is an EXCELLENT ROM. But I am here researching how to get Android Auto wo work with my OnePlus 3 running Oxygen when I ran across this post.

Seemingly solved my USB Disconnect issues
Using my OPO and CM13.1 (OnePlus' distribution), I seemed to have solved my issues by only using a OPO cable. I have tried a number of other cables to no avail. And while I have one disconnect early on while using it, I suspect that was a physical issue, as I have had no disconnects in the last week (including 10 hours of use this past weekend).
It may be too long and too red, but it works!

I know this is old but ...
I'm running 7.1.2 with Lineage OS 14.1 - Sultan Bacon on the OPO.
Has anyone gotten Android Auto working on their head unit recently? So far all my attempts have ended in failure. I'm OK with flashing a different ROM or resetting my DPI if it means I can use AA in my car.
Thanks.

Android Wear and Z5 Nougat

Hi guys, just installed the proper Nougat clean install via Flashtool and rooted the device. I noticed that Bluetooth turns itself off every now and then and doesn't turn back on. Is this happening to anybody else ? I usually use the Moto 360 v2 with the Z5 and on MM, it doesn't happen that way.

Im using the smartwatch via bluetooth and everything's fine
I think I found out why. Greenify's aggressive doze seems to be the culprit. Once I got that turned off Bluetooth stays on
Seems like even uninstalling greenify didn't work for me, Bluetooth still turned off after a while. Will continue to look for the root cause and solutions and post if there's a solution.
Feel free to chime in if anybody has answers
What is your kernel, ROM, etc.. ? I think if you have LineageOs 7.1.1 it's a bug caused by the ROM, I had this bug previously. So, try to return to 6.0.1 Marshmallow and retry with your Android watch.
Just got the official Nougat update (32.3.A.0.376) a few days ago, and I'm also getting the same issue on my Huawei Watch. Can't find any setting to keep it from turning off Bluetooth. It's starting to annoy me, honestly. But the rest of the phone is largely improved since the update, so overall, I'm OK with staying with the Nougat build.
SW3 here no problems. .372.
stock .376 rom doesnt have any issues with bluetooth and SW3

PSA: Android Auto and GS8 don't play nice together - causes UI slowdown

So there seems to be some type of weird bug with Android Auto and the GS8. Everything works perfectly fine but basically after 1-2 uses of Android Auto I always notice the UI will start stuttering and slowing down like crazy. At first I thought it was the launcher but it happens when you pull down notification shade and the multitasking view as well which is OS level. I also noticed that changing resolutions (FHD to WQHD or vice versa) would "fix" the issue until it happened again. Doing this resolution switch I believe kills all processes and clears memory/VRAM.etc.
So anyway, after days of trying to find the culprit I uninstalled Android Auto and did a reboot. Been over 24 hours now and phone is still as smooth as after a clean restart - I've used Maps to navigate and all the usual stuff I do in 24 hours without using Android Auto and it's still perfectly fine.
I really am upset with this because I loved using Android Auto - it worked perfectly. I'm going to wait a bit and see if they update either Android Auto and/or after the next GS8 software update. I doubt it's anything to do with Android Auto and more to do with whatever changes Samsung made to Nougat on GS8. Oh well.

Works fine and connects faster to my car than s7 edge.

What receiver are you using? I'm shopping for one and I have it in mind but I know the stereo companies don't really make firmware a big priority. Android Auto isn't a deal breaker, but it'd be good to know.
I have 0 issue with mine
I also have no issue with android auto, and I use it every day.
Yeah I had the weird UI slowdown 2 days after uninstalling Android Auto. I'm getting irritated now.

This.
Did you use SmartSwitch or another automated method to restore your phone? Android Auto doesn't like to be moved vs. installed and all the apps available for use in AA have to be installed after AA and not before. Try uninstalling AA and all the apps accessible to it and then reinstall starting with AA.
I'm having weird issue not able to connect my S8+. I don't see android auto on stock unit. ( Hyundai Elantra )

I'm using Android Auto just on the device with BT connection to my BMW which does't support Android Auto in the car. The app itself works well but after using it causes what appears to be UI slowdown with the notification shade and application switcher . I uninstalled it again and again the performance on my phone is better so far. I'm not sure it is causing some issue because it launches itself over the lock screen and whatnot. It functions fine but I haven't found anything else that helps with my phones performance than removing Auto. Will keep testing
I just got a Kenwood DDX9703S installed and Android Auto plays great with the S8.

Does your BMW support Mirror Link? If so, if you have a unlocked S8, it supports Mirror Link too. I haven't used Mirror Link in years and my car natively supports Android Auto but it might be a better solution.
using android auto on a kenwood receiver here, works fine to me no slowdowns

Yes and I prefer to since my receiver has quick charge.
I have the DDX9703s and galaxy S8 as well. Everything is working fine but I'm not getting my text messages through the head unit. Did you ever have that problem?

Yes, though I'm sure there's a setting that's the culprit because I do get them sometimes.

Anyway, can anyone tell me if the mix 2s works with android auto head units in their cars?? this is kinda important as I use it daily for work as I travel a lot...
From searching on the web,it seems to be hit and miss with users getting two large black bars on their cars screen,so was hoping maybe the good folk here can chime in... maybe a recent update sorted the problem or something??

Thanks man, I haven't actually got the mix 2s yet....
Does your mix 2 work in your car head unit without any issues????
or have you got the black bar issue like in this thread?? https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/help/android-auto-car-screen-t3833709
No any problem
Work well
After installation and before the launch of Android Auto
It is necessary to
Accept all permissions
Create a WiFi access point (menu - paramètres- Point accès wifi mobile )
Recognize on the car Bluetooth connection and WiFi connection by Access point wifi mobile
and only after connecting the phone USB cable to the car and running Android Auto
Thanks man, really appreciate your input...will take the plunge and buy the phone anyway

Good to know,I really rely on it as I drive all over the shop daily for work...I have it ordered anyway so will be here Tuesday!! will have to figure out how to root these devices now or maybe will stick with MIUI,haven't done it since I had my nexus 4 and I've used oneplus devices for the last few years....
Android Auto works for me. Using Mi Mix 2s on latest mi.eu 10.2 (Android P). I have a KIA Rio 2018 which is compatible with both Android Auto and the Apple equivalent. Only hickup I've encountered is that Auto refuses to start Spotify/Audible/audio players when connected to car. Easily avoided by starting said app before connecting to the car. Minor bug but still annoying. This might be a isolated problem though since Auto isn't avaliable in my country yet. Other than that I haven't encountered any more bugs.

I can not use waze, always frozen when try to look for an address, anyone knows why?
I have same issue with Spotify and pocketcasts. So don't believe it's a isolated issue.

You have to give android auto and the music or whatever app you are trying to use the right to start other apps in the background. miui is limiting this by default, therefore you have to allow it first. after that this will work without a problem. it is in the miui seetings of the corresponding app, the top option "allow app to start in the background" or "allow other apps to start in the background". Something like that it was called

Bluetooth and Wifi, or change the custom rom?

Hey guys,
I'm living and working with my Z5 Dual since years and I have the latest Lineage OS with the updates it brings (old Android 7.1.2, latest and last update as of 5 February). But I am getting more and more annoyed by two things which drives me into severe considerations what to do next: changing the phone? changing the custom rom?
The issues I face with the latest Lineage Os are the following:
I cannot connect--although trying everything--my electronic scooter via bluetooth with the app of the provider (it's name is SoFlow). The app on all other Android devices I have, stock Samsung and custom roms all see and connect to the scooter.
My Wifi connection drops always after a couple of minutes when the Z5 screen is not used and the display turns off. That is super annoying and it only re-connects as soon as Ihit the power button to turn on the screen.
So my questions are now: Can anyone provide me with useful help regarding issues 1 or 2 on the latest Lineage OS? And if not: what can I do, should I switch to a different custom rom (which one, maybe Carbon Rom, maybe another One?) or should I go back to a rooted stock rom? Any help is appreciated. i know the devices is old and Android 8 or 9 is as unlikely as nothing else at the moment, but at least the issues mentioned should not be there in Android 7...

Android Auto + Android 10 = broken ?

Hi guys,
my android auto (in a certified compatible car AA) it's fully broken from Oneplus Android 10 versions.
Tried the beta3, beta4, and "official" android 10, always same problems.
Connections in not stable, sometimes audio glitch and interface (of my car) forced to reboot.
Almost always, the buttons from above interface disappear (in every app, like spotify, maps, waze, etc...) becoming fully unusable.
The vocal commands works only with navigator and music, no more google assistance questions (like what's the weather tomorrow) --> This seems confirmed that is broken in google side.
Now, I'm trying to understand if it's fully broken android 10 + android auto (the system AA level, not anymore an app to be lauched) OR it's only with these oxygen's roms, still broken in some way.
Please, someone have real feedbacks to give me ? I'm very disappointed, thinking to go back to Android 9 just for this, but i will loose every update (included the security monthly fix) because OPO is supporting already just Android 10.
What can I do ?
Tried all the throubleshoot I've found around of course, like wipe cache, delete app, use "new" AA interface, cables, etc...
Car: Mazda CX3 (it seems that Mazda + OPO7Pro is the devil match)

What I've learned from this phone and Android auto is that if you have USB debugging enabled, Android Auto will give you the worst experience.... EVER!
If you have it off, o don't know what to tell you honestly. If its on, TURN IT OFF! I have a 2017 Chevy RS Cruze and have no issues except when I have debugging enabled

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it was one of the things I've tried... Disabled the usb debug and also fully disable the dev. Mode...
BUT, are you on android 10 ? Really it's stable to you ?
Guys, some more feedbacks ?
My opo7pro with latest stable 10.0.2 it's still unstable with android auto (mazda).
Main selector icon disappear (becoming unusable), random crash/reboot, audio glitch...
Ufff
I've had my op7p for about a week. I have a Kenwood dmx 905 with wireless Android auto. Phone came with Android 9. Had no problems connecting without using the USB cord. Did the local update to Android 10. Now it won't connect unless I use the USB cord. Then I can disconnect the cord and go wireless. I have to do this every time now. Want to know to go back to Android 9.

Got the same with OOS in my Mazda. Switched to custom ROM, no more issues.
I can confirm the debugging issue making AA go weird. If I have it enabled it has a spastic, if I disable it, AA works flawlessly.

man... I'm without hope
Really with custom's no problem at all ? I investigated more... I really think it's a problem also in Mazda side + OPO7Pro Android 10.
I didn't want this time go custom, I'm fully stock without root (for security reason etc...)
Ufff... very disappointed, 10.0.3 still has the same problem :crying:
Having huge problems with my 2016 Skoda Octavia Amundsen. I will try debugging mode off and report. Thx everybody.

PS. As AA is not supported in Finland yet, how can I edit the power saving option of this App?
