I don't want to be that guy that makes one post and runs for the hills I actually want to be part of the community, unfortunately this current situation is driving me nuts, to the point where I just have to post.
You see I own a cubit x17 that features quite a lot of bloatware and malware that needs removing.
I have rooted my device using kingroot and even gone as far as to install TWRP. I have downloaded a custom ROM for my phone that is saved in my downloads.
The problem is I just can't figure out how to install it...... I've tried everything from using TWRP to manual booting (there's not a single install option on the manual boot screen) and as far as I know no SD card in the phone and I cant seem to find the download folder from the boot screen.
Please can somebody help before I pull the remaining hair I have left out
Step by Step for you, I would highly recommend you get a SD Card if you can. (Always remember to backup your phone with nandroid before doing anything!! I will NOT be held responsible if your phone goes wrong so do this at your own risk. )
1) Download an App called Flashy
2) Download the TWRP 2.8.7.3 v3
3) extract the files out and make sure you have recovery.img and the other .img file
4) Open flashy and press recovery image.
5) Point it to the one called TWRP then hit Yup
This should flash your recovery into TWRP and boot into it. From this you should be able to flash your current stock rom over to a custom rom. But you will need to do the standard procedures of wiping etc.

i have had my HTC Magic/Sapphire for about 6 months now, i think i have bricked it but it i can still enter fastboot menu and all so not sure. since this and im not great with androids, i went and got a HTC Hero, so was wondering if anybody can help, have a couple of options.

Download a recovery rom for your device
There are several different recovery roms available for the HTC Magic devices.
Amon_RA has created several nice recovery roms available from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492 and get the Recovery Rom appropriate for your device - these recovery roms have Nandroid Backup and Nandroid Restore and are perfect for the average user.
You can also use Cyanogen's 1.3.1 Recovery ROM available for: PVT32A devices and PVT32B devices - this rom has some additional options for partitioning your SD card for ?Apps2SD/Swapper/etc.
Fastboot the recovery rom
Fastbooting a rom doesn't write anything to your device - it just loads it directly from your PC - so it's a completely safe way of fixing/recovering/backing up your existing rom. To fastboot a rom you need to first drop your phone into Fastboot mode and check that it's working. Now drop into a command shell and make sure the recovery image you're wanting to load is in the same directory that you're running this in. If it's called something other than recovery-rom.img then substitute that instead.
C:\AndroidSDK> fastboot boot recovery-rom.img
Use the Recovery Rom to Backup your current ROM with Nandroid
Once you've booted to a recovery rom - you can use the Nandroid Backup option. If you get a 'cannot mount /dev/mkblkxxx error' when you do this then check your microSD card is inserted correctly and if so, wait a few seconds for it to register to the recovery rom correctly. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again (sdcard can take a few seconds to mount!)
Than boot your recovery and wipe the handheld...
Than pick your sd card and plug directly to your pc and save a compatible room to your card and name it update.zip
Put the sd card on the phone and enter on recovery method on the phone and install the new ROM

I have just rooted my phone recently on my Droid X using Z4root and it worked fine. Then I backed up my phone using Titanium Backup, which also worked fine also. Then I installed ROM Manager and then flashed ClockworkMod Recovery within ROM Manager. When I click on Backup Current ROM the phone reboots fully without going into recovery. So I open ROM Manager and click "Manage and Restore Backups" and there is no file there.
I tried clicking "Reboot into Recovery" to see if I could select it there and the phone just reboots back to android without going into recovery. So then I turned off my phone and held down the home+power to go into recovery which works. When I'm there it doesn't have an option to backup my ROM. I don't want to flash this ROM I want to try until I can backup my current stock ROM, in case something goes wrong.
When at the blue recovery screen I notice at the bottom in yellow a message is displayed "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command. Wondering if this is my issue. I also notice in recovery it gives me an option to "apply sdcard:update.zip" but I don't see an update.zip on my sd card, so I'm not sure if I should select this before being able to backup my stock ROM. I'm afraid to flash the ROM before knowing this current problem. Can anyone help me with this issue? I am new to the whole root and ROM hacks, but have been researching in depth and taking all precautions so I'm trying hard not to brick my phone. Thanx in advance.
First off update.zip is just an update.zip package. Could be anything thats an update and can be flashed. Yeah...not sure why rom manager doesnt work for you but all the same your better off doing it from recovery anyway. You can make backups in recovery you don't need rom manager just use rom manager to manage your backups it will see them no matter what! It will allow you to rename them as well so they are easily identifiable also. If your rom manager works youll be able to name the backup before hand! If you ask me rom manager doesnt update the roms fast enough anyway they are usually like 2 days behind! Good tool either way but not so good at replacing roms as recovery does a better job. I have never had one problem using recovery but I've had a problem every time I try to flash a rom using rom manager!
Okay I figured out that the ClockworkMod Recovery must not have flashed properly or something bc I was just at the dev's site and the picture of the recovery is different than mine bc it's green and has many more options to choose from. Plus it says ClockworkMod Recovery on the recovery screen and mine doesn't. It's blue and says android recovery at the top. When I open the ROM Manager it says that I have the ClockworkMod Recovery but I don't. I even tried reflashing but it didn't work either. So how do I get the ClockworkMod Recovery to flash correctly?
I am having same problem but I just use bootstaper and it works fine
I tried downloading the bootstrap from the creator of ClockworkMod Recovery but the link seems to be broken. What bootstrap are u using?
I found the bootstrap for the Droid X on the market and that fixed the issue I was having. Wish I would have known from all the other posts/articles I read that it was a requirement for the Droid X to have the bootstrap to run recovery
EDIT: For some reason, after several attempts, ROM Manager successfully flashed recovery. Should be able to figure this out now.
After going Cyanogen free for awhile, I decided to download the newest kang. Problem is, GAPPS wasn't included.
It seems that ROM Manager isn't allowing me to download ClockworkMod Recovery; perhaps because I am not logged in? Not sure, it simply doesn't seem to want to download. No errors, it just doesn't do anything when trying to flash it.
I try to reboot into recovery, but it just loads the ROM. Attempting to hold the volume up while booting gets me stuck at the folder with the arrow screen.
I'm pretty sure that it is highly recommended that you don't use the fake CWM via rom manager. It installs it to your sd card or something of the sort. The easiest way to install CWM I know of is using the tool this guy madeLink Here. first off: i had something to do in the past with all this stuff but my memory isnt that great anymore so please correct me if im wrong
so here's the thing: my OPO decided to not detect my SIM anymore, so i did a factory reset thru recovery. I also rooted the phone before with a video tutorial from youtube (don't know if i can link it here this is my first post^^). What it does is install SuperSU over TWRP. You then have root without erasing your data! I was kinda surprised because i read in other threads that it actually will.
But anyways back to topic. I am now on these settings:
Cyanogen OS 12.1.1-Y0G7DAS2K1
Stock Recovery
Rooted
Bootloader unlocked (not sure, but i guess otherwise it wouldnt work)
I received a message for the OTA Update to Cyanogen OS 13. Downloaded & installed it, phone reboots into recovery. Already surprised here because its not TWRP anymore but i guess it was just temporary for the root installing. Or maybe it was because i didn't unchecked the "update recovery" checkbox in developer options, i think its active on default.
But anyways, the recovery tries to install it and suddenly the menu shows up again with an android in the background (in his chest is a red warning sign). No error, just the graphical android in the background. After a restart, nothing changed still on the same version. I did a factory reset once more and also "deleted media" and wiped cache.
As i mentioned, im not up-to-date with the differences on CyanogenMod and Cyanogen OS.
What i want to do now:
Step 1: Format my OPO as clean as possible.
Is Factory Reset and wipe media etc. enough for this? Or do i have to hard reset it?
Step 2: Root Access and TWRP.
I lost both of these after an OTA update to my OPO. I guess it was when i received the Cyanogen OS update. I would like to know when exactly these two will be erased and what to do to not lose them anymore. I heard it differs between CM and Cyanogen OS.
Step 3: Decision what OS to use: CyanogenMod or Cyanogen OS?
Im willing to wait for updates as long as they're stable. And i would also prefer to just install them over OTA (when it works^^). I don't want to flash like crazy, i only want a steady, rooted, customizable OS. I searched on this forum but im not sure which are the latest versions of both and what the differences are. What would you suggest me on these preferences?
Step 4: Restoring my Data
I backed up my Apps with Titanium Backup and transfered the folder to my PC. Never used it before, so i would like to know if it can cause any problems if i restore it on a newer version of Cyangogen OS or even Cyanogenmod?

Ok so first you can not perform OTA updates with a custom recovery like TWRP. So if you want OTA updates don't install a custom recovery. You lost TWRP before even performing the OTA update don't know how but you did. So I am going to instruct you how to start fresh.
1. You need ADB and fastboot installed you can get the minimal version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 or you can get the full SDK manager which has fastboot and adb https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html but if your not planning development just go with minimal.
2. Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541 You don't need to do step 4 since you want to install a custom recovery. So just reboot after you flash all the stock files.
(Also make sure you download the right stock rom he has a 16gb and a 64gb listed. Or you can download the stock rom straight from cynogen os here https://cyngn.com/support
3. Next you will need the TWRP file you can get it here https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/ if you don't have ADB/Fastboot in your path just place the file in the same folder as your fastboot. Also rename the file to recovery.img make sure you don't name it recovery.img.img
4. Download SUPERSU for root get it here https://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip
5. With your phone on plug it in to your computer and transfer the SuperSU zip to the download folder on your phone.
6. Unplug your phone and reboot to fastboot then plug your phone back in
7. Open command prompt in the fastboot folder by holding shift and right click and select open command window here.
8. Type fastboot devices (This command will list the connected devices. If your phones serial number shows up you are good to go and may continue. If the phone is NOT listed this indicates that your drivers are not installed correctly. In order for you to continue you must fix your drivers so that your phone is listed under fastboot devices.)
9. Type Fastboot Flash recovery recovery.img
10. Once the flash is done don't let the phone fully boot to system or it will rewrite to the stock recovery so hold the power button and volume down and it will boot into TWRP recovery. IF you let it boot into the system and it does reinstall the stock recovery you will need to re-install twrp
11. Once in twrp perform a backup of your stock rom
12. After the backup is done go back to the main menu of TWRP go to install navigate to the download file and then install SuperSU
13. Now reboot and you now have the stock rom with root and a custom recovery.

Thank you very much! I did all of your Instructions step-by-step and it worked flawless. Im now on the latest CM13 Release. I hope it was the right decision and it runs smooth and stable. And if not i got the backup I do have 2 more questions:
-TWRP asked me if i want to let them "modify my partition". It helps when you are getting official updates. Is that important for me? I guess i will just flash future updates over recovery and not over OTA anyways, so i can left this "modify" option unchecked, right?
-While i did the factory reset, it said that most of the time i will not have to delete internal storage. Does that mean it also excludes private stuff like photos, videos & also backups from titanium & TWRP (if it's the same stored location)? Thank you again for anything

The only way you can do official updates is to follow all the steps above and flashing the newest stock ROM via fastboot and reinstalling twrp. Now if you want to flash a custom ROM like cynogenmod then you can just download the latest ROM from cynogemod and install it via twrp. As far as your pics go I would either upload them to a cloud service or your PC before switching ROMs. For your apps yes just backup with titanium backup and then just restore them when you change ROMs.
So here's the thing. I have a Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915T (UVU1ANK3) I wanted to root it and am stuck in a state I cannot seem to get out of after searching all over the internet for. I got TWRP on the phone but that's about it, the interesting thing that I challenge anyone to help fix is how to get SuperSU on the internal SD from my computer since I cant get the phone to go past the Note Edge startup screen (I'll come back to this) and when I plug the phone into the computer it won't recognize it to pull up the storage. The other problem is in TWRP, it says there is no OS installed so I cannot do anything on the phone at all other than TWRP and the flashing screen. When I try to install ROM's I get an error code of fused 2> binary 1 not sure what all that stuff means.
In Summary:
1. No OS installed
2. SuperSU unable to put in internal SD
3. Fail to flash ROM's to phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have you tried flashing via adb? And tell me whats the version of yor twrp btw. You might need to switch in cwm recovery though as that one worked for me in my gsmart phone

Okay I'll start from the important to the less.
1/3.No OS installed:
Make sure you are using the latest and the correct twrp for your device (TWRP 3.1.0) through odin

P.S you can't flash official tar or tar.md5 files through twrp
Or get into download mode and flash official frimware with odin

-moving it after flashing the firmware through odin -or a custom rom-
-puting the SD card in another phone to move the zip file to it
-using card reader to move through pc
works also if you couldn't port the right zip custom
