OnePlus One mobile network keeps getting disconnected when set to LTE recommended - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm facing an issue on my OPO mobile where, if I set preferred network as 4G LTE, I'm getting only 3G connectivity that keeps disconnecting and connecting again(start->H->H+->H->disconnected) and cycle repeats.
The customer care person just keeps telling me to restart my mobile and that there is no issue at their end .
I tried to take the logs but I'm not able to make much sense of it.
ADB radio log: http : // pastebin . com / HwV0uhzs
Mobile details:
OnePlus One A0001
Android version: 6.0.1
Cyanogen OS version:13.0-ZNHEAS2JK
Kernel: 3.4.110-cyanogenmod-g7808b1e
Build number: MMB29X
Operator Details: Airtel India
Can someone please help me out here as my battery is getting drained quickly as well if I set the Preferred network to LTE recommended.

Don't expect constant strong 4G signal from Airtel India ! Those Airtel 4G girl ads are all myth. Heck not half the places shown in ADs are covered in 3G and they are saying 4G, I am too on Airtel India 4G and I have OnePlus One and Samsung Galaxy S6 .. Both doesn't maintain regular connection with 4G. And if sometimes they do connect I face lot of Drop Calls..

Yes but this is different, the network gets disconnected almost every 10 seconds even when kept on top of table without any movement. This never used to happen previously also.

Yes it is same .. What happens when you keep 3G selected ? I am pretty much sure if you select 3G it will not disconnect.
You can also try 2G for checking ..
When I keep mine on 2G I get best signal without any call drops ..

Yes, you are right, it is working perfectly fine on 3g setting. But this never used to happen until few weeks back. 4G was working fine till then. I had installed a couple of OTA updates, however, i'm not sure if that is the cause. Do you know if there is a solution for the issue and if this is a mobile issue? Customer care is really not helpful and they closed my 2 complaints telling me to restart the mobile.

Don't worry buddy there is no issue with your Phone, I live in Ghaziabad UP and 4G works very bad here same as you described your problem, however as soon as I visit my relatives in Delhi, Laxmi Nagar area or to ITO side. 4G works like a charm with max speed of around 38MBPS download speed and no disconnection of network and no call drops.
One thing you can do is raise a ticket in Airtel as ask them to send a technician to your house and check the Signal strength around and in your house.
I had raised same type of ticket with Airtel and a field technician came to my house with weird gadget in his hand and he checked thoroughly my entire house and there was many blackout zones in my house where there was no signal.

I did a bit more research, and it seems the same SIM does not show 4g on another mobile as well. One of my friends next door who also has an OPO with same operator doesn't seem to have any issues even when both mobiles were kept together. So definitely something wrong with the specific connection.

Okay here's the perfect explanation as to why that happens.
3G has two classes of Network HSPA = 3G/H and HSPA+ = H+
H is the pure 3G while H+ is 3.5G that is an advancement of 3G which is better. Its okay if your network keeps switching between H and H+ it is quite normal all the time and completely depends on your service provider.
If you are losing internet connectivity when this happens means an issue persists.
When you switch to 4G/ LTE band your phone keeps searching for 4G network thus frequent drop of internet connectivity happens if it gets no 4G service. This also means that your area is not 4G supported yet. That means your phone keeps trying to switch to 4G because its preferred but upon finding no nettwork or weak network it keeps falling back to 3G and repeats the same process again. Hence keep it to 3G only.
Personal Advice - Airtel is sh*t change to something else. In Bangalore I used to get 1-3 mbps 4G speeds but on Vodafone I get about 28-31Mbps. They also said it'll be increased to 91mbps by next year! just an advice.

Thank you dwaipayanray95 and Abhinav_Rakesh,
I will probably drop an email to airtel once again and see if it gets resolved. If not, I'll shift to Vodafone.

[Q] Desire s stuck on gsm only

Hi there,
Hopefully someone can help because my brain is melting here. Basically I spoke to orange customer services the other day because of totally poor signal. He told me to switch to GSM only, which was fine and I know it can improve your phone signal. The thing is, it's now stuck on there, whenever I try to change it to WCDMA it automatically switches back to GSM?
Any body got any ideas?
Cheers

I feel your pain. I am also a long-suffering Orange customer. Everything was fine until they climb into bed with T-Mobile. Since then my signal has been so erratic I simply can't trust things like Google Maps to work as navigation. Orange have left me stranded twice bombing out the 3G just as I need it to get home.
Anyway, how exactly did you switch to GSM only? There are a couple of ways of doing it.
Menu> Settings> Wireless & Networks> Mobile Networks> Network Mode = GSM/WCDMA auto.
I suspect it was this one. If this is the method that is changing back to GSM, then try this one;
Open you dialer, and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This will open a hidden testing menu, from this select 'Phone Information'
Scroll to the bottom and see what the 'Set Preferred network type:' is set to.
Mine works well with both GSM auto (PRL) and GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
See if selecting one of these helps.
Let me know how this goes.
Hiya mate,
Yeah I gave that a try earlier. It seems I have to either have a good phone signal or crap data and vice versa? Pain in the ass. Orange told me that it was because of a faulty telephone mast in my area that has been off since last week. Can't see that being right to be honest, since my signal has been ****e since I first got it in April. Thing is, my sister was having the same problem with poor signal, and she wrote to some higher up person at orange to tell them about it. It ended up with her getting out her 2 year contract, bonus! I'm just going to ring and keep complaining and then write to this person my self, and hopefully I can get out of it my self. Orange is the worst network I have been on!
Cheers for your reply
I might give that a try. I still have a year left, but would love to jump ship and move back to Vodafone. I only went with Orange as my girlfriend was on Orange and magic numbers meant free calls. She then went and screwed things up by moving in! Now I don't need to ring her so much! (facepalm)
My housing estate has a dirty great big cell tower mast at the top of it. My fillings could receive a text message. But even with max strength signal still the 3G is off and on so erratically it's not worth using. They keep telling me that "the cell tower in my area is being worked on" too. That's been their excuse since February.
I have no idea I'm afraid why your phone wont stay on a WCDMA setting however. How are your APN settings? Mine once roamed to T-Mobile without me noticing and would only do 2G.
Yeah my girlfriend is my magic number too, and I live with her as well.. Doesn't make a great deal of sense really does it?
I think you may be on to something with that tmobile thing. Does tmobile allow wcdma?

When I used to do a manual scan for other Networks the following would show up;
Orange
Orange 3G
T-Mobile
T-Mobile 3G
If I try to connect to T-Mobile 3G it wont let me. The one that is just 'T-Mobile' doesn't have anything more than 2G. What happened was my Orange signal dropped out, so it jumped onto the 'T-Mobile' one without me noticing. It then didn't go back to the Orange 3G when I got home.
I just tried it again and got;
Orange
T-Mobile UK
The 2G/3G variants seem to have been dropped and merged into a single provider for each network. I can connect to T-Mobile but still only seem to get 2G.
See which one your connected to. It might be that although we are allowed to use T-Mobile for calls/texts the deal doesn't include 3G.

Yip, that's exactly it mate. I go on tmobile and I can get only 2g, I connect to orange and it let's me have 3G. It jumps between the two networks, and as I have poor orange signal all the time it auto jumps to tmobile! So basically it looks like I'm stuck to 2g if I want to actually speak to anyone! At least now I know what the problem is, but it still doesn't make me feel any better about having to make the choice, and having to constantly check which network I'm on before knowing why I'm getting either poor 2g or poor phone signal. What a headache!
Cheers for your help, much appreciated!

Lately, I've noticed some **** with o2 as well which as I previously recall always had good service, since I been with them for as far as I can remember. I'll have full 2G signal, and randomly the data will shut off. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for hours. But the phone signal remains on full... it's weird. And 3G coverage seems to be getting worse instead of better. None of this makes sense either since in March o2 apparently rolled out 900 Mhz 3G across most major UK cities, meaning 3G service on a 2G band, meaning much better 3G service in areas where only 2G service was previously good. I ain't seen **** all of an improvement, like I said it seems to be going the opposite way.
UK used to be ahead of the game when it came to cell networks, it seems most other countries have not only caught up, but jumped miles ahead. 4G is pretty standard in the US now, and they were so far behind in cell networks only a few years ago.

Annoying 3G symbol problem

Hi all
I have an annoying problem with my sensation, well i say annoying its more frustrating.
I noticed when i look at my phone the 3G symbol is next to the upload and download arrows, when i click on a web page it pauses for about 5-10 seconds and then changes to a H symbol and away it goes.
I understand what it all means that H stands for HSDPA and its faster etc.
The problem is this, my wife had a HTC wildfire and my Mate has a HTC Desire and were all on the three network, so tonight when we were ll together mine was the only phone showing the 3G symbol both of theirs was showing the H constantly and was quicker of the mark when we compared speeds on the net.
anyone any ideas why i have the 3G symbol showing when the other 2 on the same network have the H symbol?
Thanks all
Chris

Each HTC device most likely have different radios, whereas you will get different speeds.
would you not think the sensation would have the best radio? with it being the better phone??

That's subjective. That's why there are so many various radios available here to try, depending on where you are.
I mean, at home, my Nexus One gets better reception than my Senny.
Just a quiick update, i have restarted my sensation by holding down the button etc and since then its had a constant H symbol. Can this be a fault of the phone do you think? does anyone else get the 3g symbol on there phone?
Thanks again

Right now I have the 3G symbol as we speak, as soon as i hit the submit button I will get the H icon.
Edit: and it did.
Still my Sensation might not be as fast as previous phone which was and LG G2x and it would constantly beat my Sensation when it came to speed test but what I can assure you is that I can now watch HD videos streaming off YouTube without constantly buffering like my previous.
I look for reliability and real world experience more than numbers, statistics and benchmarks.

Thanks for your reply, do you get an annoying little pause when it goes between 3G and h sometimes?
I have the same problem.
I had it also in my previous smartphone, HTC Desire.
I tried to change my SIM with another (different carrier), and the other SIM went perfectly on constant HDSPA.
If I put another SIM which has the same carrier (I have Wind) it will have the "3G-standby" problem.
I haven't tried to put my SIM on another smartphone (not HTC), so I don't know if it's an HTC-specific problem.
I've ever wanted to figure out the problem and searched everywhere for a solution, but nothing. I've tried thousands of tweaks, hacks and speed improvement guides, but none of these solved the problem.
Which carrier have you got, and where do you live in?
EDIT: Oh, and I have the same problem with every radios, so I think it doesn't matter.
This isn't a bug it's a feature... Depending on the rom, typically the phone switch from H to 3G when no data is being transferred.

I doubt it, if i put another SIM in the sensation, it will show H icon everytime.
By the way, you know how to disable this feature?
yea i doubt its a feature too as since i have restarted the phone i have nothing but H symbol.
I am on the 3 network and in the UK
Not 100% sure, but think it maybe a feature in that when signal strength is low it drops to 3g when idle to conserve power as hspda uses a lot of juice in poor signal conditions. There are lines in build prop starting ro.rill which can be changed to alter your H and 3g and g values. Did it on my X10 a year ago following a guide on here.
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=0
ro.ril.enable.dtm = 0
ro.ril.gprsclass = 12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 10
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 6
ro.ril.hsxpa = 3
ro.ril.enable.ganlite = 1
These are my values on my sensation xe, running aosp rom, and I don't see 3g very often. Take a back up and give it a try, don't forget to reboot after applying new values to see if it works. If no change or worse, then just restore your backup file.

I will try. Thanks.
What are that variables referring to? Are there a guide explaining that?
(many thanks)
I tried editing build.prop like that, but it didn't solve anything.
Maybe here I should increase or decrease some values. But I don't know which variables should edit to.
Cincinnati Bell 4G vs T-Mobile
I bought an unlocked HTC Sensation made for Cincinnati Bell about 3 weeks ago. Since day one, I could only connect to T-Mobile 3G network. Occasionally, the H symbol showed up, but it was very rare.
Called T-Mobile, they asked me to come in to one of their stores to swap a new SIM. In addition, they reset the network service on my account and confirmed that their computers showed that I'm in a very strong 4G network. Still, I could only connect at 3G.
Finally, called HTC. After asking me for the IMEI, the HTC rep. told me that the Sensation 4G's made for Cincinnati Bell have different frequencies. That's why it could not connect to T-Mobile 4G network.

So, with your Cincinnati Bell you could only connect on T-Mobile 3G network? Is that roaming?
If that, I think you're not talking of the same issue on switching between 3G-HDSPA.

unable to connect to internet using mobile data connection

Hi guys, i am using internet via wifi for quite some time
But i have tried with mobie data connection and i am facing some problems...
When i switch on mobile data connection 'E' connection(edge) symbol appears for like 5 mins ..
After 5 mins E symbol is gone and i am unable to connect to internet.. my signal strength is full
After 2-3 hours again i can see that E symbol for 5 mins and boom its gone again..
Can somebody solve my problem please..
Which rom are you running? For some T-Mobile users like myself the Cm roms have data issues. When I try to run Cm, I get blinking data that NEVER connects. If your not running Cm rom have you tried the application get RIL? It checks to make sure ril is matching radio and if not matching recommends a ril to download.it's really helped my signal. I found I had a weak signal because my radio and ril we're not matching. Once I downloaded the proper ril my signal jumped back up from one bar to five bars! I am assuming you are rooted. If your not you can't use get ril because it's for device with root. If you're not rooted, your options are pretty limited. If not rooted you can call carrier and see if they can help. But if you are rooted, do try "get ril" it can really help. Best wishes to you. Hope this is helpful.

The E symbol stands for EDGE which is 2G.
Have you asked your service provider to enable mobile data connectivity for you?

Yup .. know that its edge... And i have asked my operator to enable ..
Its working but only for like 5 mins....and i even dont know when it works .. it just comes suddenly and goes off boooom
Try this I think it will work for non rooted phones also. Press *#*#4636#*#* then when the menu comes up press phone information. Then scroll down and press on your current signal, another menu will pop up, then press wdcma only, this is 4G. Then scroll down and press refresh. If you have a available 4G signal in your area this will lock on the signal. It will not switch to edge. I often use this method because my device prefers edge and I want 4G. It works wonderfully for me because I have a strong 4G signal in my area. If you don't lock on or have no signal available after this then 4G is not available in your area. But do give this a try, it will lock you on the 4G network and no more switching to Edge. Let me know please how it goes. I think this will solve your problem. Do write down the code because after reboots you will have to do it again. Hope this is helpful! Best wishes!

Some of the Sensation Models do not support 4G.
It is unlikely that 4G is available in OP's region since it is not showing H

Yup you are right... First thing my device supports only 3g and even if it does support 4g it is not avilable in my region
Thanks for the replies..please post if there is any alternative..
Note - my device connects to edge connection but only 5- 10 mins even though full signal of 5 bars is avilable

You can try putting in Data Enabled card of a friend of yours and see if this is a phone issue or a provider issue.
Also check if your provider provides 3G in the area.

Nexus 5 LTE weak signal reception.

Dear experts.
i have finally decided to share my ''unlucky epxerience'' with you.
i have got a serious problem which i have been fighting with since the first day i purchased my phone.
i have a white nexus 5 32 Gb version,D821 model.
and i'm from morocco, which means 4G will work for me because my phone is the indian version not the american version that doesn't support 4G in the rest of the world.
so,my problem is like that: when i first bought this phone i got stuck in ''emergency calls only'' for one week like every nexus 5 users did due to this known problem about the phone.
and after many reboots, clearing cashe, and searching manually for network,i got the signal again.
i never tried to switch to LTE mode, becuz i thought it would charge me a lot of data.
but, after a while i decided on and switched to LTE and got stuck again in emergency calls only !!!
i tried many things like contacting my carrier, searching manually, inserting another Sim card, force switching to LTe by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
but to no avail.
i decided to go to the nearest 4G tower and make sure if the problem had to do with 4G coverage or my phone's antenna.
then,i finally saw the LTE logo with full bar.
to sum up,now,i can't use 4G unless i'm near a 4G tower.
moreover, sometimes my phone loses signal even when i'm using only 3G which leads me to switch to 2G to catch the signal or reboot my phone many times and manually search for network.
i don't know if the problem has to do with the antenna or the bands of my phone.
and since i know nothing about flashing drivers or enabling bands.
i don't wana risk and end up by disabling any obviously enabled band.
i never took my phone to repair, because Lg service isn't available in my erea, plus i don't wanna give my phone to a dumb that would make it worse, because i fix my phone all by myself.
please help me solve this problem.
if anyone has any clue like repairing my 4G with octobox or trying to fix the antenna please.
any kind if suggestion is accepted.
best regards
Zakaria.
Edit : yesterday,i removed the back cover of my nexus 5 and found out that it's actually a D820
that's weird because rebooting the phone to bootloader it says D821 (H)
and i was wondering what does that (H) revers to ?
but the thing that confuses me is if it's actually a D820 why does it catches LTE near a 4G tower?
does that mean the bands are already enabled ?
do i still need to enable any other band to make it work properly ?
thank you so much in advance and waiting to hearing from you soon.

Network Drops when Texting

When I'm engaged in an SMS conversation using the built-in Messenger app, my mobile network keeps dropping. When I try to send a text, it says that I need to insert a SIM card, and the connection bars show I have no connection. If I wait a few seconds, my network connection re-establishes and I can send texts. Interestingly, when it says I have no connection and I can't send texts, I can still receive them.
I've only noticed this happening when I'm texting.
Does this sound like a faulty SIM card, or could it be an issue with my phone? I'm with Bell in Canada on a 32 GB Pixel.
EDIT: I just noticed that this will sometimes happen if I've had my phone in my pocket for a while. I'll pull it out and the network connection will be dropped when the screen comes on, only to reconnect after a few seconds.
Are you in Toronto by any chance? On Telus? I've been having the same issue since late last week. Only happens in Toronto. On my commute to Burlington, everything is fine as soon as I get passed Etobicoke.
The issue for me is mostly on LTE+. That's causing the biggest headache. 3G and LTE seem to be fine. And again, only in Toronto. Outside the city everything (LTE+, LTE and 3G) all work fine.
The only workaround I have while Telus is looking in to it is to use 3G while I'm at home on the Danforth.

I'm in downtown Toronto on Bell. I haven't noticed this happen at home in the suburbs, although I use my phone a lot less when I'm not downtown.

So it sounds like the same issue. Telus and Bell share towers, so that makes sense. And you're having issues in the city but not in the 'burbs. The same issue I'm having.

Well, at least it's probably not a defect with the phone!
Just received an OTA update (NDE63V) that, supposedly, has an updated cell radio. I'll know in a few hours if this has any effect with my issue... As usual, phone is working fine right now in Hamilton.

I just got the OTA as well, but it doesn't seem to have resolved the issue.
Yup. Didn't work for me either.
Are you on band 4? There have been reported issues with that band.

When I run LTE Discovery, it says the LTE band is unknown.
The problem in Canada seems to be affecting both Bell and Telus subscribers on band 4. Google the Pixel's band 4 problem, you can read more.

Google acknowledges the problem and working on an update to fix the issue.

Here's hoping they come out with a fix soon! I'm just glad it's not a defect and something that can be fixed.
I used the support feature on the google pixel phone today and a rep from google called me after requesting a callback. The chat feature was greyed out on my phone. When I brought up the issue of network randomly dropping throughout the day, the rep said this was the first time they've heard of the issue. After going over the issue of my network connection randomly dropping and reconnecting, sometimes accompanied with the triangle icon saying there is no sim card inserted in the phone, the rep called my service provider and left me with them to resolve the issue instead. They said it had to be something with the service provider and not the phone. I'm with Koodo Mobile which is a subsidiary of Telus. The Koodo rep did some testing and had me add a new APN to see if that would stabilize the connection but that didn't do anything. They said it's more likely an issue with the phone because it's connecting to the network but not sustaining the connection.
I've tried swapping out a new sim card hoping it was a faulty sim and that didn't fix it either. A factory reset also didn't do anything. I've confirm the sim and network wasn't an issue when I inserted my sim into my friend's iPhone 6s. There was no connection drop within the 15min sample size. I then used my friend's sim card on my google pixel, he's on Bell's network and the connection did drop within 10mins. We contacted a friend who works with Bell's networking service and he said this was the first time he's heard of this issue and there's been no report on his end of this. He doesn't work at the customer service level so he doesn't know if any pixel connection issues are being reported and brought up to a higher level. I should mention I'm in Toronto so there's no lack of cell towers around for a bad connection.
I'm going to see if I can borrow a Rogers sim card this week for some more testing to see if it's only dropping on the Bell/Telus network as others are reporting. Right now it's very frustrating, I don't know if it's a hardware issue or software issue.
I know it doesn't fix the problem but have you tried to drop to 3g until they fix the towers there? Should at least be less frustrating if it's specific to LTE.

That's only what a Google rep said. Hopefully it's not a defect that can be fixed via an update.
The latest update seems to have fixed the problem!
I'm on Virgin, also in Toronto, same symptoms. No change with latest update either
