Potential new purchase - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So is the one plus one still a good phone? Im on the edge of picking up one for a spare. I know it's an older device but I love to root/rom and the note 5 is terrible in that department.

Provided the developer base Oneplus one has it is still the best phone. I suppose it will last upto atleast Android O, specs wise Oneplus one is now older and can't compete with some of the phones.
However same goes for those other phones they can't compete Oneplus one with the developer base.

[Q] Anyone know the likelihood of Android L porting?

Once upon a time I asked if Sense 6 porting was possible, and was overall greeted with a big "no". Now, given that it was totally possible what with ports via Liberty, do any developers think a Vanilla Lollipop port may be possible for our hardware in the near future?
Thanks and cheers.

I asked once that question a few months ago and someone told me it should be possible but I can't find the post anymore. Anyway if you want an early taste : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56112621
I haven't tried yet but it seems pretty cool.
Yeah I'm about to get the nexus 5 soon myself, then the nexus 6 hopefully soon after

Craigslist man, I stumble on deals all the time people selling their n5's for around a hundred because their LCD is out, which is like a $20 fix

Well I would have to say its definitely possible, considering that google is also updating the nexus 4 to L. From what I've read its supposed to run well on older devices. And the x isn't exactly weak in the hardware dept. I miss mine

I don't think it's a matter of if and when at this point. It's a matter of WHO wants to spend hours (or days...or weeks) porting a ROM that has L to a device that has maybe 20 or so active users.

That's too bad...I can't switch phone for another year :/ not that I don't like my one xl
Would be awesome if it gets ported I love my htcox
I wish I was a more seasoned dev so I could port it for you guys. When Paranoid Android does their rendition of L our device will hopefully still be supported by the PA maintainer here (he said he'd still support the device after he upgraded) so that'll be you guys' best bet. That will probably be a while though so I'd just get comfy on KitKat until then.

I considered the N5 for a while, but the only thing holding me back is the price. My parents won't pay 300 for a phone, which I understand, so I have to pay for it myself. The problem with that is I get paid every other week, and it's not a whole lot ($150 every two weeks. It's an on-campus job). I could save 2 entire paychecks and buy one, OR I could get a similar experience with the Moto X which is 50 which is something I could pay for. Every flagship phone has there pros and cons.
Another issue I am having is the development. I've been flashing since 2012 and I really like the flexibility it brings. Moving to a new device, M8, Galaxy S5, Moto X etc, the development is definitely not as strong. I despise Touchwiz, and the plastic construction Samsung uses. The M8 is really, REALLY nice, but AT&T charges 200 for it which is a ripoff since Verizon has the M8 for 30 dollars (i know what I said). The Moto X is my favorite because the bang for your buck (and near STOCK ANDROID ), but the battery, I've heard, isn't the greatest, along with the camera, and no external sd or removable battery. It's like the HOXL right now, but if I'm upgrading, I want more features.
TL;DR: If I had the money, I would buy the N5 in a heartbeat, but there is more to it than just buying a phone...

I thought about getting the M8 when it was $389 for a refurb unlocked. I was one click away but decided not to. I like the Moto X's design better & a couple issues with the Moto X should be resolved with L. Already at their Google+ community people are reporting up to 6 hours on screen time which is pretty damn good and will get better with L. The camera can also take some gorgeous shots -- if you're in a well lit area. The camera is inconsistent but hopefully Google's new camera APIs will alleviate some of that too.
I'm a college kid like you so I know exactly what empty pockets feels like. If I were you I'd save up and buy it outright refurbished if you're dead set on the M8...
You guys need to buy the OnePlus One, awesome phone. Specs are killer, dudes are getting 8 hours screen on time, plus all the other goodies.

I'm checking this thread daily, I'm hoping it makes it to our devices.
would it help if we made a bounty ? I dont mind putting in my share to get Lollipop and it's battery enhancing goodness to our phones.
Have fun with your m8 man you'll be missed here...
Here's hoping for an upgrade to Lollipop in CM or PA. I love my Evita.

That would be a dream but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I love mine too
its gonna come for sure eventually..... plus its not that big deal to alwys hv newer android asap..... one x still is a beautiful device fr me
Yeah it's still a good phone, always has been for me. Buuuut it's days inevitably numbered. I'll probably have a N5 here in a week, and I don't even know what I'm gonna do with my One X. Probably donate it to a developer. If anyone here is interested in that and will actually put it to use for development, let me know.

[Q] Vote: OnePlus One/ Galaxy Note 3/ Nexus 6

Which one would you go for?
OnePlus One
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Motorola Nexus 6
This really should go in the dedicated 'What should I buy' thread.
At any rate, what are you looking for in the device? The OnePlus One comes with a version of CM, the Nexus 6 is easiest to mod, and the Note 3 offers the Spen and true multitasking but comes with KNOX.

Not what should I buy
I would buy OnePlus One if I had to.
I just wanted to know the opinion of other people.
Ah. Alright.
Why are you not considering the Note 4?
No doubt about it; the One Plus One as it is overall an excellent device containing no bloatware (Samsung), and not too big (Motorola) but updates and support will probably if not all ready stop due to One Plus and Cyanogen splitting but here on XDA you can still find out how to update it
Kinda sad they're already splitting, but yeah, OPO should be the go-to-phone for right now just because of how powerful it is versus the price.

What phones do you plan on getting (JoD)

So what phones do you plan on getting for those on Jump on Demand. Or do you plan on sticking with the Note 5 until the 6?
For me I plan on getting the Huawei Nexus, and then my last upgrade will be the next gen HTC(hoping for a phablet like the one max)
I was hoping to get the z5 on tmobile but it doesn't look like that's happening. So I will prolly get the g4 pro and some kind of nexus device.
If I signed up for it in august, do I get two more upgrades until Dec 31st? Or do I get two more upgrades until August of next year?

Depends on what phones they allow to use JOD on. I don't think you can jump to any phone you want can you?
You would get three more upgrades anytime from August 2015 to August 2016

Same as me . Really liking the size and build quality of my new Note 5, and the upcoming Huawei Nexus is supposed to be near identical size as well and high quality metal build. But will carrier stores be selling this Nexus like they did the Motorola Nexus 6 ? Or will it be a Google Play store sale only ?
And I too, am interested to see what HTC has ready for the M10.
But between this Note 5 or Hauwei Nexus, I doubt I'll switch to anything else between those two, until the Note 6.

I'm debating about getting the Note 5. But not sure. I currently have the Note 4 and I don't know if it will be worth jumping to the Note 5. It looks like there have been improvements to the software and it looks like just stock TW on the Note 5 appears to be as buttery smooth and lag free as people are saying.

That's what I mean. I don't know why they don't allow all flag ship models. I can see why they wouldn't allow someone to get $200 phone then trade it in for $800 phone.
Many T-Mobile aren't even carrying the Nexus 6 and it's very soon EOL so that makes sense. I was talking about the next Nexus assuming they will carry the Huawei phablet

Note 5 is a great phone, so is the Note 4. If your happy then stay with Note 4.
I may actually jump to the new iPhone when it gets released. Here's why (don't judge) - I've always been a hardcore google/android guy and I JUST jumped to the Note 5 when it was released. I love it and don't really have a reason to get rid of it, but I also just purchased a custom Moto X Pure which should be here on the 15th and depending on how that phone performs and whether or not I like going back to stock android and losing some of the Note's features. I may just do something a little different and go the iphone route for a bit. Seeing as how I'll have two phones I can just swap the sim cards out at any time. Or I'll just keep Note 5 and see if one of the nexus's is considered a "premium" level phone and jump to one of those.
I like the Note 5 for now, so no plans to JoD, but I like having the option of switching if something good comes out. Even if I don't switch I am still paying the reduced $25/m from the JoD promo for the Note 5 so I am saving money by going JoD. If nothing better comes along I most likely will jump to the Note 6 next year.

I don't really see any reason to get a new phone, none of them are going to have anything that is going to be a big jump In functionality.

When on jod. You can only jump to the qualifying jod devices like: lg g4, galaxy s6, s6 edge, edge +, note 4, note5, iphone 6, 6s+. Basically all high end devices. You cannot jump to a lower phone that is not in the list above.

New phone opinions

I currently have a Nexus 6P. I dropped it a week ago shattering the phone, but I'm looking to get something better. I'm looking for something that has a good processor, adequate storage, good dev support, great camera quality, dual flash F/R cameras, quick updates. I have had a HTC M8 before, so I'm not really interested in the HTC10 nor do I want any Samsung product. What are your ideas on the OnePlus 3T? What's the community like? What's the future of OnePlus devices looking like? I'm not really sure if I want to get a Pixel device either. I'm not really that impressed with Pixel features or the Pixel for that matter. Let's hear some ideas...

[India] Oneplus, galaxy s series users. How often do you upgrade or switch?

Hi guys, my old mobile is s8 and I waited 2 years to upgrade to s10 with buds probably because of cost. I kind of want to use note and pixel series in between but couldn't. So here are my questions for discussion
1) How long do you stick to your devices and why?
2) Do you feel the need or urge to try other devices in between?
3) would you use a service where you pay monthly and switch every year or twice every year?
I am currently using galaxy s8 last 2 years.
I really like galaxy s8 with One UI, wireless charging and waterproof.
Now I was thinking to switch but which is the best replacement? or I should stick with is galaxy s8 for another year?
My budget is 50k right now.
I googled new phones like Honor 20 pro, one plus 7, asus 6z and others but none of the phones beat infinity display.
Please lighten up your opinion!
