I have a working LG G4 that is mine, my friend however has a bad LG G4 that doesn't go into recovery, download mode or anything, its screwed. Is there anyway I can get his phone up and running from copying the proper files via SSH or some type of method? Thanks in advance.
You need to root the working phone then back up boot loader via ADB command from working phone.
copy boot files for g4
Hello, you did g4 another phone? I have the same

Hmmm.. You basically have 2 options here.
1. Get ADB working (it's not hard, try the Koush's Universal ADB driver)
2. Restore back to stock ROM, but you will need Fastboot working.
The thing is, if you can get Fastboot working, ADB should work too.. so...
If you need help with ADB, just ask..
Maybe this will help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219

1) Got ADB up and running on your PC?
No: Use search option, there's plenty of guides in this forum..
Yes:
2) Make sure you flash the latest recovery image. Here's the link to the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608377
Place the recovery image in the same folder with your adb and fastboot
Connect your phone to your computer
Boot into bootloader by holding power + volume down
Open command prompt and type:
fastboot flash recovery PUTNAMEOFRECOVERYHERE.img <press enter>
3) From here just follow this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
(It's for HTC phone, but applies to moto g, too. Tested by myself)

Hi
I have a standard motorola moto g 8gb unlocked phone - not tied to any uk network on 4.4.2 .
I wish to downgrade to 4.3 or change the rom to another rom.
Before i do this what is the easiest/simplest way to backup the ROM (o.s) which is not root'd ?
Or do I have to root the phone?
Also do I need to install drivers or not for the phone as Windows 7 sees the phone fine in explorer/my computer when the phone is turned on - i can drag drop files on there no problem
Thanks in advance.

a way to backup without root? Yep.
a way to backup without unlocking the bootloader? Nope.
You see, for everything you need the bootloader unlocked: rooting, flashing, etc...
so if you want to backup anything you first need to unlock the bootloader to flash a Custom Recovery and then do the backup and that can be done without rooting the phone, or touching the rom at all.
You will need the motorola drivers and adb:
Here's to backup the NAND (needs root): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263392
Here's to backup the ROM (Choose one): TWRP CWM
Hi
ok made a bit of progress.
never thought it would be so much of a mission !
got the bootlocker unlocked..
now how do i install the clockwork mod or twrp app sorry for my ignorance. i have followed the links you've kindly posted me.
i am familiar with dos commands etc. - so that doesn't phase me.
i've downloaded the apps from a site both clockwork and twrp - .img files - do these have to be installed via command
prompt with fastboot to install them respectively whilst the phone is plugged in with usb cable in the bootloader phase?
are there not any "windows" apps that can install these apps?
Thanks in advance
You don't have to install both of them!

Chk this for automated process
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50029015
and also
You do not have to install both the recoveries, either cwm or twrp not both of them!
you said you unlocked bootloader, that means you have adb installed with fastboot
copy the .img file for twrp/cwm whichever you prefer to the folder where adb is installed
rename it to recovery.img
then turn off the phone and boot into bootloader and run
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Hi
This is short guide on how to install latest available Firmwares on a rooted lg stylo 2 plus ms550 [Note: this will remove root and twrp from your device and you will need to re apply the steps in my twrp thread to flash twrp and get the root back]
Steps:
1- download the latest kdz from here
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-ms550-firmwares/
2- download lg up 1.14 from here
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/Flash_Tools/LGUP/LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi
3- install lg up, open it and choose the upgrade option
4- choose the downloaded kdz and press start
5- wait for the phone till it reboot to the download mode, install the new firmware and after the flash is done your device will automatically reboot back to the system.
enjoy
Awesome appreciate your work!!!

I want to first thank Messie2050 for all his work on this. I know I'm making a mistake when I'm attempting to root this phone but I don't know what exactly I'm doing. I follow each step to a T. When I get to opening the command prompt and type in fastboot etc, windows says it doesn't recognize the command "fastboot" and to make sure I typed in correctly. I also tried on my netbook which is running Linux. It's slightly easier however it just waits on the device. I don't know how to extract the twrp file on a Linux machine. Can anyone help? I've tried everything to root this phone!
I am getting a msg that says invalid kdz....
Yeah, still not sure whether to use MTK or MTP.
My LG UP said LGUP can't load the model (C:/Program Files (*86)/LG Electronics/LGUP/model/com
I tried to root my phone and install TWRP via the tungkick method, but I forgot to do the ADB fastboot oem unlock before I flashed the modified TOT file, so when I tried to boot into TWRP it got stuck in a bootloop.
Ive downloaded the stock 10D files, but am having issues getting the phone into DL mode so I can reflash the stock files via LGUP. Ive looked though many XDA threads, and have seen a few people post the same issue, but I have yet to find a solution to my issue. Can anyone offer up some assistance?

To get to download mode try removing battery for a couple seconds, putting it back in and then press and hold volume up while plugging in the USB cable to the computer. Also, you may want to download the 20A kdz and use the recowvery method instead of using the 10D tot file (unless you're wanting to stay on MM for some reason).
Remove battery, insert again. Hold Volume- and connect phone to PC via cable. It will take you to fastboot mode. Write command (make sure drivers & minimal fastboot and adb is installed)
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
phone will boot to system if everything is fine.
The end goal for the root process is to install TWRP and then CM or a variant of CM. I hate stock software.
Follow this guide to flash 20a firmware then
Follow this guide for rooting+twrp and you are good to flash any custom rom built for this

If you're wanting something customizable, fast and stable, I'd check out Resurrection Remix after following those guides listed to get 20A, root and TWRP. You may also want to check the dual boot thread and use that to try multiple ROMs at a time and see what you like the best
There are a lot of other threads in XDA telling you how to unlock your beloved LG G4 bootloader. But then i felt it was too hard for new people to do it.
So this guide makes it EASIER for you !!!!
WARNING
I WON'T TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU END UP BRICKING YOUR DEVICE.
UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE. SO BACKUP ALL DATA.
Now in your Stock Lg G4 settings, go to about phone and software and then tap on build number until you become a developer.
Now a new option will appear "DEVELOPER OPTIONS" in settings.
Go inside it and turn on usb debugging and also enable OEM unlock in it.
Now we need a pc for unlocking bootloader.
Also we need a set of adb drivers which you can search google and get the 15 sec adb installer.
After getting them all, you are set to unlock your bootloader.
Connect your phone to your PC and enable USB debugging (WORKS ONLY IN MTP MODE)
Then open CMD or PowerShellWindow and type the follow commands into it
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
When you enter Bootloader, you can see some commands on the top left of your phone.
Run them in your CMD
These commands will unlock your bootloader..
Restart your device and you will see that your bootloader would be unlocked and everything would be erased.
Now for rooting the phone,we need TWRP.
Now again go to CMD and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Get the twrp.img for the lg g4 (H811/H815) from twrp.me
Now in your PC, place the Twrp.img where you have installed the adb fastboot drivers.
Open a cmd in that folder containing adb drivers..
Now type
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
Now twrp.img is the name of your file..You can rename it to recovery.img or G4.img
Now this will boot your phone to recovery.
THIS DOES NOT REPLACE YOUR OLD RECOVERY.
Once you are in TWRP,
Allow modifications for the first time and then go to Install... Get the Supersu.zip from the official website (Google Knows)
Put the zip in the root of your sd card where you can find it easily.
Go to install and install the zip.
Congrats... You have rooted your phone
If you want to flash twrp permanently, just keep the g4 into the root of your sd card
Now run the command again that i gave for booting your phone into twrp from bootloader.
It will boot again into twrp and now go to install and select INSTALL IMAGE.
Now select the G4.img or whatever .img file you have for your recovery(FOR LG G4)
Now install it to the recovery partition..
THATS IT
You got your phone rooted... Also you got a custom recovery.
This method has been tested on my LG G4 H811 and it is working awesome till now..
CLICK THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU
10000000000 thanks man
but what 2 do if the mob keep rebooting....and keep on lg logo
