...because it's compressed...?

has anyone tried this yet?
what about "bluetooth keeps turning on when update to MM" in general section
it's happening with this .tar.md5 too?

All the tar files should be the same, Odin does a md5 check before updating. The uncompressed file is around 4gb

Can this be loaded through Odin if I am running Cleanrom 1.1? I'm guessing that would be a bad idea. I just thought I would check. Thanks!!

Can you flash it?
Sure.
Will you loose root access permanently (unless a method is magically found for MM)?
Yep.

I really am only using root now for Titanium backups. I am pretty close to moving to the S7 so I guess it wouldn't be a huge deal.

Helium is nice. Can do pretty much everything except for system apps, and anything where the dev has disabled adb backup.

Would I have to disable/uninstall any root apps? I use Better Battery Stats, ES File Explorer, Lucky Patcher, SD Maid, and XBooster. Also I have some apps that I 'patched' with Lucky Patcher. Anyone know what would happen to those?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Nope. It doesn't touch the data partition. Just run in Odin and you should be upgraded with all your apps and such.

Correct. Its like factory resetting but deeper. It wipes the entire phone, all partitions, and reinstalls. Like getting a new HDD and installing windows or linux.

Yes. Or, alternatively, you can do a back up in Smartswitch, wipe it all, then restore however this will not retain apps so best bet for the ones patched is to just keep your data partition the same..

I apologize for my stupidness but as I've never owned an HTC device I'm not 100% sure I understand how this file works. So, do you need to put it into download mode and then run the exe or just enable debugging and then run it?
Definitely thanks. This would presumably break root if we had it.

yeah, I think so. You can do a reset through the phone menus or through bootloader. That was the only 2 ways I knew. Will try this as my phone is a little sluggish after I did Zroot and deleted it and did a factory reset.

I received this error with my Heroc.
The way I fixed it was to have the phone at the bootloader when running the RUU. Not sure if that will work with this phone or not but worth a shot..
Restart the phone into bootloader - Power off and Power on while holding vol. down, or type adb reboot bootloader in your CMD prompt.
Once there make sure your phone is plugged in and says Fastboot USB at the top then try running the RUU again.
Let us know if it works.

I would first try freezing device management with Titanium Backup. Reboot, and see if the update icon is still there. If it is, then I personally dont know where to clear that out without going into the file system.

Help: Wipe+Root

Hi all.
How can I wipe my Nexus 5 so it is a plain Kit Kat 4.4.2 (like the day I received it) and just root it? it's currently in 4.4.2 and rooted, but with a lot of stuf in it too. My main concern is how to wipe once it's rooted, and how to reroot.
For those who like to read, a little more info:
I have a Nexus 5 which received 2 days ago. I come from an iPhone 5S, so... pretty newbie...
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device after unboxing, and have been using it since. Problems are:
1. I just found out about CWM and its capabilities, and I intend to use the backups a lot.
2. I kind of ****ed up with a couple of apps I regret installing.
3. After a backup I just did today, it asked to whether or not fix the recovery (or something like that). Selected YES, nothing happened. It then asked to fix the root... said YES and screwed it completely. I had to put SuperSu in the phone as a ZIP and manually install it again to recover my root access. It kind of looks "dirty" now, lol.
Anyways, I'd like to make a whole device backup from CWM with Kit Kat out of the box, no extra apps installed. Just rooted. Then install all my stuff, sync contacts and so on, and make another backup.
That's why I want to erase the device and have it all clean (just rooted).
Thanks!

Oh please, I know. I was just hiding my ignorance under the iOS carpet.
Will give a read to both links tomorrow. Will definitely do link1 on friday if I find the time, and will then consider either doing link2 or going the CF-Auto-Root way.
I'll let you know how this all ends.
Again, thanks!
Update:
Followed steps in link1. Everything went fine.
Gave a deep read to link2. Found it understandable and easy to do and follow, but decided to go the CF-Auto-Root way just because I had done it before and worked nicely...
Everything OK. Something weird happened -again- though. After the clean restore and root, I installed CWM and proceeded to make a backup of the plain system. After it, it asked to fix root again. I had previously said YES, which lead to a broken root, so I said NO this time. Same thing happened!! I lost root and had to manually install SuperSu 1.93 from ZIP in CWM... Why does this happen?
Anyways, I have another question. If one day I decide to restore from this backup I just made, will it be exactly as doing a complete restore following link1?
Thanks!

Oh damn it... Really? OK, a couple of quick questions:
1. Did reinstalling SuperSu leave junk in the file system?
2. Will flashing TWRP leave anything either?
My OCD would probably make me restore again if the answer to any of those questions is yes.

I downloaded the Flashfire apk in hopes I'd be able to flash from my phone without recovery and every time I try going into the app, it instantly force closes. Has this happened to anyone else?
It's probably because your bootloader is unlocked.
Honestly though I haven't heard of this.
I'm assuming you have the latest version and that you are rooted correct?
Has it worked at all on your setup?
Have you tried factory resetting, installing, and trying?
Maybe this might help someone who is more capable of helping than I am.

Yes but I don't think is designed for samsung mode of substratum, also I think stock recovery only accepts signed zips

I ended up doing that. Google backup restored his apps, and even call log, but no SMS
Thanks to all anyways

Welcome. Carbonite backup has a free sms backup app on the play store. It's worked for me a dozen times changing between phones.

Have you tried to boot up in safe mode (Power + Vol. down) to fix the problem?
That worked for me. You just have to uninstall the substratum app and then reboot your phone.

I've got exactly the same problem as mendioned here, but on Moto Z2 Play. I cannot bot in standard and safe mode. But debugging is on. Instaling not signed packages is probably disabled. Is there any solution to fix this without factory reset?
