Sorry but i dont see how what you wrote has any connection to what i ask,
i dont mind the new design i just care about 2 features use to be in the keyboard before the 5.0 update
I had been doing OK with the KitKat keyboard and want it back. I have real trouble using virtual keyboards because of a neurological disorder. Since upgrading to Lollipop, my Nexus7 is useless to me. I have tried dozens of keyboards and most of them simply error. The others are hard to impossible for me to use.
I see newer keyboards ported to older OSes, why not older keyboards to newer OSes.
Extract latinime.apk and libjni_latinime.so from the older rom and substitute these for the newer equivalents. Reboot.
This is very general so back up before trying in case there's incompatibility.
Forgot to mention to set permissions (644 for apk and 777 for lib)

I got some help from another forum I am part of.
Someone showed how to make the Lollipop keyboard be the same as the KitKat one.
So first is by changing the theme to Holo White or Holo Blue (like swanTV posted). The blue and white refer to the color of the text on your suggestion bar; the keys look the same.
Then it is a matter of changing various settings, to how you had them before.
The only difference I have now is some of the long presses have moved, so I need to learn the new placement. I have screenshots of KitKat and Lollipop and the keyboards look the same now.
On a side note, I did a lot of hunting because of the update and found several keyboards I liked except for one thing so I will watch and check updates on them. I also found a couple of keyboards I think that I could really like but I need to get used to. You might want to look around a little. Keyboards are very personal, my husband and I hate each other's.
One last thought. I am a long time PalmOS user and can write at full speed with Graffiti. Graffiti no longer works on my Android but I did find a new handwriting input that I am trying.
Hardware keyboard makes "I" from "i" even if I turn off auto-capitalization in settings. Any Idea how to turn it off? In polish "i" means "and", and should be written as lower case.
That's possibly an auto correction feature or something like that.
Try to turn off any feature of those. Just a guess but hopefully a good one.
I turned off everything, even in softkeyboard, and problem still exists..
You can try removing those shortcut entries from the dictionary:
Code:
word=i,f=0,not_a_word=true
shortcut=I,f=whitelist
word=il,f=0,not_a_word=true
shortcut=I'll,f=whitelist
word=im,f=0,not_a_word=true
shortcut=I'm,f=whitelist
They reside inside the LatinIME application. It seems like shortcuts are handled even when auto correction is not requested, you might file a bug report for that.

I had no time so I just deleted LatinIME and rebooted for test. Problem is still present, even there is no softkeyboard. And I must to say this auto-capitalization happens only with hardkeyboard, when I'm writing with my screen "i" is always lower case.
I just tried to reproduce it but I failed.
I have set systemlanguage to english (US), also turned on the spell-checker and set the hardware-keyboard layout to Asanti-QWERTY and also english (US).
I have no idea what could cause that.
Maybe you share you configuration with us.

Stock 4.1.2
system language: English
physical keyboard: edited keypad_8960 (default) - I tried changing that to some non english ones with no success.
software keyboard: actually none - deleted LatinIME.
spell check, auto-replace, auto-capitalization, auto-punctuate - off
Don't know why I didn't check this before, but changing system language to Espanol solved problem, so this is some clue. Any ideas where to search now?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok, I changed language with MoreLocale 2 to Polish and everything is fine now. Just one more question: does anybody know what this app is exactly changing?
Well, it is the Stock ROM, of course I cannot reproduce it, I am on cm11.
MoreLocale changes not much, just a variable that refers to the language. Afaik it does not modify the ROM (/system).
It may work on Stock ROM. But please keep in mind that it is supposed to run in english/spanish. That means, that some things will either crash or just stay english.
I remember hardly that there were some things which let me let the Stock ROM running in english. Maybe it was just a mix of my chosen language and english.
So far everything is working fine, system is still full english, but this is not bothering me as I only wished for lower case "i".
I'm curious what this changed exactly, so in future I could change it manually without app.
Anyway, I'm fully pleased with this solution by now
Hi Everyone!
I use a Lenovo Yoga tablet, and struggled for a while with the keyboards made for smartphones. Every time I had to write a character with an accent (éáóúöüőűí) I had to hold the key, and wait for the alternative characters to appear. They didn't really help with coding either, so I tried the Hacker's Keyboard. It was quite good, but if we can have the whole PC keyboard on screen with all the modifier buttons, why not use its potential and add hotkeys? This is how Clavis Keyboard was born.
Clavis Keyboard is a PC-like keyboard for tablets, with numerous hotkeys.
Features:
-Familiar: The keys are where you'd expect them to be
-Well-known hotkeys: Copy-paste-cut and select all work like on PC
-New hotkeys: Search for selected text on Google (Ctrl+G)
Open a new e-mail, paste selected text (Ctrl+M)
Insert text macro 0-9 (Ctrl+Shift+Number)
Change the first letter of the last word before the cursor from lowercase to uppercase or back (Ctrl+I)
Home (Ctrl+Left arrow)
End (Ctrl+Right arrow)
-Themes: There are numerous themes already, but I'm planning on adding much more.
-Layouts: US, GB, DE, FR, IT, BE, HU
I welcome any questions, advices, requests and ideas regarding Clavis!
You can download Clavis Keyboard here:

This looks really good, and I'm excited to test it a bit more when I get the chance. I did notice a few things:
I'm on Lollipop (CM12.1, on a Nook HD+), and the initial setup was a bit of a pain. After enabling the keyboard, step 1 of 3, nothing happened. I had to back out of the settings and manually progress to the next steps (selecting the keyboard to use). Not sure where the issue lies, but other keyboards have set up properly.
Settings -> Language & Input -> tapping Clavis Keyboard Free (to open Options) gives an error: "Failed to open settings for Clavis Keyboard Free"
Behavior settings have untranslated group headings, and one option ("Gyors pont Pontot ir ha duplan koppintasz a szokozre")

Thanks for the feedback!
The setup is new and actually worked when I made it, but it seems I managed to mess up the code just before release
I'll patch these very soon.
Its me again, been using it a bit more and i do like it, especially that you can adjust the height on screen. Have a bug, a question, and a suggestion.
auto uppercase doesnt seem to be working, from the start of text entry and also after a period. ive tried disabling and reenabling it, and still no go.
Is auto correct disabled, or just not implemented?
Can you add an option to adjust the key repeat delay?
Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Hi, does it have polish letters?
like the keyboard, and I tried on phone, but it is too small, in my opinion. can you optimize for phone as well
Yeah thanks a lot, and thanks for IT Layout!

Autocorrect is not yet implemented. First I want to fix the known bugs, but I will definitely include it later on
I'll take a look, and will tell you what I could do about the key repeat delay and the auto uppercase.

Sadly not yet. I plan to add the spanish and the portugese layouts next, and then hopefully the polish. Problem is, I got no friends who could translate the scripts for me, so it'll certainly take some time :/

Well I made it especially for tablets, but you can try to increase the height and use it in landscape. Maybe later on I'll come up with something to make it more comfortable, but right now it's not my primary goal. Sorry
testing the new keyboard. doesnt seem to have any auto correct?
May I help in adding Hebrew characters layout?
If so, how?
Here's how a standard Hebrew keyboard looks like:
http://store.aramedia.com/shopimages/products/normal/kb-hebrewwhite.jpg
Do note, that since Hebrew is a right-to-left language (like Arabic), it has weird behavior on some keyboards, like putting "(" instead of ")" . I really hate it, and would be happy to have the option to disable this behavior (it even happens on Windows OS , but somehow only on some apps).
Since Hebrew doesn't have uppercase letters, when pressing SHIFT or CAPS-LOCK, it just writes in English. However, on Android, those keys are gone, and you can long click on any key to have the alternative being written on it.
Attached how it looks like on various Android keyboards apps.
Please, make a pt-br layout... You idea is great
Good idea! Great keyboard.

Thanks for your offer!
Hebrew keyboard seems interesting, so I'll gladly make it after the planned layouts.

Thanks. I don't know how much effort does it need as I'm really busy right now, but maybe I could help you a bit... However I have no knowledge in programming coding or development....

You wouldn't have to code or anything, just translate a few lines from English to Polish.
By the way I've just finished the Polish layout. It will be included in the next version (without translation for now).
Hello,
Nougat update on S7 has completely f**** up my stock keyboard.
With Marshmallow:
I was able to type at high speed with relevant bilingual autocorrection whatever language (french/english) was set on the keyboard.
The return key was allowing me to cancel the auto correction by leaving the typed words.
With Nougat:
No bilingual autocorrect, I have to select the right language anytime I am switching fomr english to french otherwise the keyboard corrects everything into the language set on with the space bar key.
I tried to use Swiftkeyboard but not a big fan of it since question marks is not accessible straight (have to long press the . key) + the numeric pad is awful, tiny and showing plenty of symbol (when it comes to enter only digits) and the € key is sent to page 3 of the keyboard which is annoying for euro countries and there is no .com key neither."
Even if it does bilingual autocorrection and there's plenty of customization capabilities, all mentioned above cannot be changed.
Is there anyway to get back to the well performing stock keyboard without root ?
Thank you
This happened to me as well. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a fix for that. Deleting the app data/cache for the appropriate apps didn't help. So anyone else any idea?

I know there are many great alternatives, but not fulfilling all my requirements.
For example, I need Umlauts on my keyboard and a number row.

Umlauts: ä, ö, ü
(I know you can achieve these by long tapping the letter but I want it right on the keyboard.)
It doesn't even learn your typing from your other app like fb or email..
Stock Marshmallow keyboard was way more customizable i.e offensive words/learn from other apps...

Hi guys! Same for me! I use 2 languages and the autocorrect is a pain. Maybe Samsung had a 3rd party work on The Marshmallow keyboard and now the contract is over? They really ****ed up big time!
I cant add short cuts to my stock keyboard. To type my name i eould type vcl and my entire long ass name pops up. I cant figure it out. HELP PLEASE, Vinny

Same thing for me, I usually can change the language when SMS'ing between English and Vietnamese. Now I no longer have that choice and don't know how to fix it either.
A lot of other issues:
+ When using Waze for navigation, when I make a phone call after 15' or 30' the screen will return back to Waze, but it's not
+ The quality of sound for both phone talking and music listening is bad (interference noise), and the volume at max level is much lower
+ Very slow to launch new applications
+ Some no response to touch screen.
Tuan
I had my phone trained before to understand French, Italian, and Dutch in addition to my default English. Now, a Dutch keyboard (and ergo dictionary) are not even a choice. There's only seven languages to choose from!
Oh, quick addition: Before flashing with Odin I hard reset my S7 and did set everything up as new. So no incompatibility with any apps or so there shouldn't be any incompatibility with any apps or so.
I am also really annoyed by the N keyboard update. Just got used to the keyboard on MM and started to like it. Even more than gboard or swiftkey.
Does anyone know where I can download the old keyboard? Or which version it was? I want it back. I know that I cannot just install it over the system app, but maybe we can modify the old version and install it as additional keyboard?
I mean getting it back doesn't seem to be a problem, just extract it from any 6.0 rom zip, but installing it/modifying it would be difficult for me.

could you extract the old keyboard apk?
Question: To install the old keyboard app, it is necessary that the package name of the old app is not the same as the one that is currently installed, otherwise it would not let us install it/over. We cannot remove the current system app without root... Is changing the packagename enough? I would try this...
Because here I found a thread that shows how to change the packagename https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760965
I'll see what I can do.
Patience is a virgin.
So I just noticed that one could download the old version of the com.sec.android.inputmethod.apk on apkmirror.com. So now we just need someone to modify it and make it compatible for Nougat. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Same issues maybe like you guys, really loved the marshmallow keyboard. Maybe someone can make it compatible with nougat.
I upgraded to 7.0 on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. BIG mistake! First my keyboard became mostly unresponsive. Then after a reboot nearly every App button left the screens. Now, I cannot bring them back, because now holding down an APP button to move an App back to the home screen cannot be done. Nothing happens. Other issues are there, but these are the most important.
Hi guys!
So, LOS 19 comes with the new AOSP Keyboard 12. I like my phone keyboards simple and basic, so I usually disable all extra functions like auto correction, word suggestions etc.
The keyboard also features an emoji button. Now, I could not find an option to disable that button anywhere in the settings. Has anybody found a way to disable that emoji button in the new version of the AOSP keyboard? In the past, on older versions, there just was a setting you could tick, and the emoji button would be gone.
Obviously I know that I could just change keyboard to e.g. GBoard, and I already tried that, but I like the style of the new AOSP keyboard, and also how it interacts with the systtem wallpaper, so I'd like to keep it. Still, I oftentimes accidentally hit the emoji button while typing, which is a little annoying.
Thanks in advance!
P.s.: There is an emoji option for external hardware keyboards, but that has nothing to do with the on-screen-one, sadly.
Hi Spaceoid,
have you ever found the solution?
Sadly no, not on LOS 19 and not on LOS 20. AOSP keyboard is opening still so crisply that I did not really find a good replacement either, so I chose to live with it...
