Custom ROM absence - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

In my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) sgs7 us version with SD820 have locked bootloader and anything custom is really hard to do. People need to hack phone to do anything. With International Exynos version on other hand it's not as bad. We had custom recovery on first day and I do see ROM out there but it's slimmed down version of stock.
So it is possible to install custom Roms, but why there is none available. For years I've been using cm and I would very much to start using it again.
Thank you.

First of all, there are a few roms already available for the exynos variant, but they are all TW based. The reason why there are no other roms, is that the Qualcomm s7's bootloader is locked and it will stay that until samsung decides to unlock it. As for the exynos variant, the source code is not open which makes it very difficult for developers to build a rom. So before buying this phone, you should have done more research, because even if developers are able to build a cool rom like Cyanogenmod, then there is a very little change you will be able to use it as your daily driver. So this means that samsung is not developer friendly and it won't change until samsung decides otherwise.

This is the Development forum, not your own personal Q&A. Put threads in correct sections. Reported.

Lol it is q&a section buddy.
Thank you for your answer. I've gotten new Exynos Variant from work and I was thinking putting some custom ROM on it. Thank you for explaining this to me.
Cheers

[Q] Noob question about flashing?

Hey guys, I'm currently running a ROM and I want to switch, I'm finding a lot I like on here, but they're just in the general S3 section. If I flash a rom, does it have to be in the Verizon section? How do I know what roms can work for my Verizon S3?

I'll be nice but others might not be. These forums are divided up for a reason so if you like your phone, stick to the ROMS for your specific device. If you have a S3 I535 for Verizon, then stick to the Verizon forums. Any ROM SHOULD flash to your phone as long as you stick to the instructions in the op. I mean this, read the OP thoroughly before you flash a new ROM and follow the instructions exactly as the dev says. And welcome to XDA> Also, Google is your best friend when in doubt or if you screw up. Just because this is Q&A, doesn't mean you will always get an answer.
Good luck and happy flashing.
These types of threads usually get little or no attention. Both of your questions are common sense questions since you're supposed to flash only carrier specific roms in the first place to avoid hardware bricks and you suppose to flash them yourself to see how the roms work on your phone plus to see if you like the rom. All the roms work but you can still encounter random problems.

Canadian S6 (920W) - What ROMS can be flashed?

Hi All,
Just wondering if there are any custom ROMS here on XDA that can be flashed to the 920W (Canadian) version of the S6?
It's been a while since I've had a "regional" type device (Going all the way back to my S3) as usually I opt for the International version of devices.
That being said, I don't recall how careful I have to be when flashing a ROM that may have been made for a different regional version device.
Also... What is the best way to root the S6? I've heard lots about PING-PONG and how it won't trip KNOX but any advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance from a Senior Member who feels like a NOOB all over again... lol...
Thanks,
PS... If I've posted in the wrong place please accept my apology... ☺
You're a senior member with almost two thousand posts and you still managed to ask your question in the wrong section...
T-Mobile ROMs can be flashed without the need for the audio fix, the same applies to AT&T ROMs.
Thanks to a few developers in the TMO section, you can now flash International ROMs along with a specific few kernels, or any kernel of your choice and a flashable patch for the call audio fix.
Lol... Ya I know but to be fair I did post in the Q&A section with no answers at all so I thought I'd try here... ? Thanks for the info...
Questions belong in Q&A.
Thank you.
So If I understand right, I can flash any at&t or t-mobiles roms for my g920w model?

Need help "rebuilding" superliterom for Verizon prepaid Galaxy s3

As we all know it was made for Verizon. I hate being on stock with prepaid of Verizon. The only custom rom I found that is touchwiz based, on 4.4 and for Verizon was superliterom. So what I'm trying to do is use superliterom by flashing it through safestrap 4.0. Now I have the nf5 module that was provided by the person who made superliterom and flashing the module made my Wi-Fi work just I've noticed some bugs. The boot animations never work. It's just a black screen. I keep getting that the system isn't responding and prompts to force close. Also I've noticed that it don't bring the on screen keyboard up even though it says it's installed. And the back, home, or menu keys don't work. So that being said, any idea how I can possibly rebuild the rom that's originally made for Verizon to be able to use on the prepaid side known as nf5 firmware that's 4.4.2. I really just am tired of stock and really need a custom one. Just one at least. If a dev could pick up on this an rebuild it for the prepaid side or make a custom one for prepaid would be greatly appreciated
Any help anyone? I know this phone is old but I can't give up on it
Any help would be appreciated guys.

The dev is still active on the SLR thread, saw him there today.
The other TW based custom rom for the d2vzw/i535 on the 4.4.2 bootloader is PaulPizz Rom. I'll see if I can find the link.

SLR = SuperLiteROM, yes he quit developing, but he is still there answering questions and helping people.

Any opinions about updating or leaving as is?

Recently received one of these Note 10.1 in a silly trade, and it is in great shape, etc. It is still on 4.1.2, official, with the official bootloader for it as well (no KNOX). I know how things go as far as KNOX bootloader and such and wanted opinions on updating or not. I read some features are removed on KitKat and some performance issues, so I would like to know if I can use newer AOSP roms with the old BL and so on? I have owned and flashed many custom roms for years now, but never in this scenario.
Also, mine is an N8013 model, what are the differences between this and the others?
(P.S. For those curious as to why I said "silly" trade, I traded two high leveled Runescape accounts from when I was younger for it, for those familiar with the game)
Check the development group: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-1/development
There are a few very good ROMs available for flashing. Just make sure you have the information for the 8013.

Thanks and sorry for the late reply. My main concern is if I can keep 4.1.2 while trying out other custom roms. I know certain devices at times must have an updated bootloader in order to run a newer firmware, custom or not, AOSP or not.

Is this phone developer friendly?

As the title
I'd say with the processor and if Asus release the source code for the Device, then yes.
Sent from my ASUS_Z008 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Probably, since it's powered by SnapDragon Processor so there is a high possibility that we may have CM support.
Looks like this phone is definitely developer friendly. Source code is already available at https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-3-Ultra-ZU680KL/HelpDesk_Download/
The bootloader is locked according to Asus support.
will this attract a lot of developers though.
Considering the phone has been out for over a month now and these forums are still practically empty, I suspect not. I hope I am wrong though.

Since this phone is developer friendly, have you seen twrp recovery or any custom roms like Miui, Aosp, CM developed for this phone anywhere?
I am hoping XDA will have something on this device soon. I have always been happy with this sites work for rooting phones and custom roms. I have rooted and installed custom roms on my previous phones, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy Tab2, and Samsung Galaxy I9100. All of which came from XDA site.
Looking forward to XDA's root and custom rom development for this phone. In the meantime, if you or anyone knows if their is any custom rom development anywhere for this phone, I would appreciate the information. I really don't want to root until I can install a custom rom with twrp recovery .img.
Thanks for the source code information.
I suspect with this phone not being sold in US or Europe, then all the hacker activity will be on Asian forums
