Marshmallow OTA Update - Update Cyanogen Recovery? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, today I received Marshmallow OTA update (13.0-ZNH0EAS2JK, not yet installed), this is a great news but I also get a popup window says :
WARNING : Update Cyanogen recovery is disabled. This may cause issues with updating your device.
Please enable Update Cyanogen recovery in Developer options
Ignore / OK
1. Should I ignore the message or I have to enable Update Cyanogen recovery?
2. Right now I use TWRP, will the cyanogen recovery override the TWRP or not?
3. Just to make sure, upgrading to Marshmallow doesn't delete data and apps, right?
Btw right now I'm on CM 12.1.1-YOG7DAS2K1 (Lollipop) rooted.

this will not affect the update but your device may well not allow the update unless you re-flash CM recovery first then after updating again re-flash TWRP

For ota you should be in stock recovery not in twrP and stock rom ,Enable update cm recovery in developer's options.no data loss .

So before installing update, I need to re-flash CM Recovery or just enable it from Developer Options?

Toggle on the "update cyanogen recovery" from Developer menu and flash the stock recovery.
You probably need to flash the stock ROM too which includes the stock recovery.
When i switched from cm12.1 with twrp to cm13, just flashing the stock recovery didnt work for me, I had to flash the stock cm12.1 ROM

COS 13 bacon signed zip for fastboot and twrp posted in oneplus forum

I flashed via twrp , working well.

[Q] Problem that happened using Multirom, now i have an unusable phone

I had the latest version of CM11 on my Opo 64 GB, was also using Multirom and Miui 4.10.24.
Tried to install the 4.10.31 version, but i did it wrong (i did not go into TWRP, then Multirom, add zip and install, but i just selected install rom and flashed the 4.10.31 zip file).
Now, the main CM11 OS is lost, i cannot boot into it, and i cannot also boot into MIUI.
So, how can i get my CM11 back?
I tried flashing the official version but it gives me error while trying to install it through TWRP.
Also if i reboot the phone and try to choose the MIUI it says
"error, kexec-hardboot support is required to boot this rom.
install kernel with kexec-hardboot support to your internal rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes I can, managed to install MIUI only, latest version.
I also installed Multirom again (on MIUI) and it downloaded cm11s kernel).
Ok managed to go back to my old miui os, now I have 2 miui os and no cm11, also downloaded the Franco kernel 30. How can i check if the cm11 that i had before is still there, if not how can i install it again without screwing my already working miui?
update:
After some tests, this is what's happening.
I believe I have no CM11S on my phone, that is gone!
I have the MIUI V5 running, but when i flash the franco kernel, the phone is stuck on boot (1+1 logo), i have to flash the kernel_kexec_bacon_cm11s to make it boot in MIUI (working).
So, now i have a working rom that works through Mutlirom and I cannot flash a working CM11S rom on the phone.
Any help would be great guys!

[Q] Official (not manual) lollipop OTA on unlocked moto g xt1033

So, the situation is I have moto g xt1033 with :- unlocked bootloader, rooted, stock rom 4.4.4 kitkat (i mean no custom rom). and fastboot flash mode 41.13 2014-06-16 and philz touch 6 clockworkmod v6.0.4.7
I want to know how to update to lollipop with official OTA update (not manually or sideloaded)?
Why I am asking this?
I got the prompt of official OTA available on my phone and then i clicked yes and downloaded the update. But when i clicked on install, it went in bootloop. It boots on the philz recovery mode and then nothing happens just restart again whatever i select.
As of now, as I backed up, I recovered to the before state of the phone. Do I need to lock the bootloader again or what? The official OTA update is not for me? Then how to get lollipop? I read the soak test etc threads but why not official update ?
Locking the bootloader won't do anything,so don't lock it
Ota update requires:
1.Stock firmware(unmodified and unchanged or tampered)
2.unrooted
3.Stock recovery
That probably happend becuZ your KitKat firmware was modified and you have custom recovery,root..
So just reflash the stock firmware
Do that on your own risk as failing this might brick your phone
Thank me if I helped
Thanks mate for reply.
1. I have stock firmware KK 4.4.4 (though xposed framework & few modules are installed currently)
2. Rooted
3. What is stock recovery? (m noob here)
And i guess reflashing the stock firmware wipes out all user data & apps, right?
Any other alternative which does not wipes out my data?

Actually there is no other way you could do it
i tried everything i could to stop the wipe procedure but it obviously wiped everything
you just backup everything you have got on your internal and external sd card ..
1.Stock Recovery:: Android devices come with Google’s recovery environment, which is often referred to as the “stock recovery.” You can boot to the recovery system by pressing device-specific buttons as your phone or tablet boots or by issuing an adb command that boots your device to recovery mode. The recovery menu provides options to help recover your device — for example, you can reset your device to its factory default state from here. The recovery mode can also be used to flash OTA update files.
2.Custom Recovery::A custom recovery is a third-party recovery environment. Flashing this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default, stock recovery environment with a third-party, customized recovery environment. This is a bit like flashing a custom ROM like CyanogenMod — but, instead of replacing your device’s Android operating system, it replaces the recovery environment.
what you have to do is:
Find the Kitkat official update on the internet accrouding to your [Build number],[model number] [system version] you can get this information in about phone....
If you have asia retail then follow this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700502
ok Here what i am planning:
1. Uninstall all modules & xposed framework
2. Unroot using supersu
3. Restore/reflash stock recovery (just recovery not whole firmware as I already have stock rom)
4. Install the update either manually via recovery or using auto install.
Am i on right path? Pls help me on step 3, any link or step-t-step guide? I couldn't find one, every post is abt restoring whole firmware.
TIA. Cheers !!

[Q] Need help with stock recovery on OnePlus

I rooted my OnePlus with TWRP recovery sometime back and current image is CM11. I need to upgrade it to CM12 however all the manuals I found require stock recovery to upgrade from CM11 to CM12
I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade to CM12 with TWRP recovery? If not, how I can get stock recovery restored?
Also, if I manage to upgrade to CM12, is there a possibility for OTA updates in future?
Dud download lollipop bootanimation and flash through TWRP
Sent from my Micromax A106 using XDA Free mobile app

1. Download the flashable CM12s zip file.
2. Store it under the root directory.
3. Go to TWRP recovery (Please make sure you use the latest version 2.8.6.0).
4. Do factory reset (wipe dalvic cache and other memory)
5. Flash the CM12 zip.
6. Reboot and enjoy....
Also, you will get OTA if you manually flash the CM12s.

You don't need stock recovery, just flash with TWRP.

Thanks for your help. Was able to flash CM12 successfully.
But facing another issue now - As soon as phone booted with CM12, it downloaded OTA system update. When I try to install the update, phone reboots in twrp recovery and update doesn't complete. Tried numerous times (with and without 'update CM recovery' toggle) but with same result.

Some md5 error. Was able to workaround it by flashing the OTA update via TWRP directly

Good to hear that.... MD5 error occurs when the downloaded file is corrupted.

Unable to get OTA Updates installed on TWRP - Need to go back to stock recovery

Hi All,
Background:
Installed TWRP recovery to downgrade to KitKat from Android ver 5.0.2 / COS 12.0 YNg1TAS17L
( I guess the changes in lollipop made me to do so).
But after installing TWRP, for some reason or other I did nothing and now the issue is the OTA are not getting installed. From other similar thread I know that we can download the OTA zip and install through TWRP and I am not looking to get into that...as I am giving this device to my family.
Help Required:
1) Is there a way to uninstall TWRP and go back to stock recovery without losing any data?
( Is it as simple as flashing recovery image from the Stock ROM?)
2) Using the OnePlus tool kit can we flash the stock ROM which will also restore the stock recovery?
(If so is it possible to flash the latest ROM 5.1.1 or CM12.1)
I just need guidance here with steps on what will be the best and safe approach without frying up my device.
Please suggest

Numerous other threads on the same subject... I don't understand why you are not ready to flash the OTA through TWRP but you are through stock recovery... It's the same thing... Don't use toolkit, they are the ones, in 99% of the cases, that "fry" your phone... As soon as TWRP is installed no OTA will automatically, you will have to flash them manually.

got a question

I was on a custom build of android 6 and had twrp and then I got an update and installed it. Now I have lost TWRP... Is that even possible? Also when in recovery it says can't mount sdcard!
Was it a custom ROM based on stock 6.0? If it is, it's possible that the update was pushed to the phone because Google sees the phone as running a stock ROM and only a stock recovery can install a stock recovery.
What I don't get is how and why users running custom roms receive and accept stock OTA notification updates.
If you had twrp installed, then the OTA would not install - it would fail.
