Android OS consuming tons of background data - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

So yeah. Title says it all. This is also draining my battery, as on data the phone consumes about 1.5%/hr, compared to 0.7 on WiFi. Google Photos set to backup on WiFi only, so that shouldnt be the problem.

Bump. Does no one have any solutions?

[Q] Excessive data usage

i have had this happen a few different days now. Something uses like a GB of data in a matter of an hour or so. I noticed this and installed both My Data Manager and Onavo to see what was using it (beyond the stock Data Usage). Onavo shows it Android OS + others (Similar to the stock Android OS report) and My data Manager shows it as Streaming Media.
Any thoughts on what this is. Its not things like Facebook or Google+ or Plume or Foursquare as those all report separately. I would love to know some options on the culprit or some other apps that might help figure it out.
I did read somewhere a Factor Reset can fix this but since its random seems like some app or something that i can resolve with out that action.

[Q] [APP] AutomateIt Data/WiFi usage

Hello everyone,
I own a Nexus 4 and I have just gave a try to AutomateIt (FREE) app and everything went ok. I like it, it's really powerful and easy to use. So I decided I need AND/OR logic to link multiple triggers, but that requires the full version (PRO) so I installed the full version. The main problem with it is while in background/foreground, it sucks the whole internet in less the few hours. I don't know what it downloads but the network usage is about 100MB in less than a day, no matter if it is in background or foreground.
Is there anyone who found a reason/solution for a similar issue?
I know, the solution would be to restrict background data. Still, on WiFi will drain my battery and network usage keeps high itself.
Thanks.
I have the exact same problem! For now I disabled background data. Before that it drained battery big time.

Hi,
Are you sur that's a legal pro version ?
Put a firewall and do not allow AutomateIt to access the internet. It does not need internet access to work, unless you really want to download any of the "ready" solutions. I use Android Firewall: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jtschohl.androidfirewall
Cheers!

[Q] Google Service using 50GB+ on WiFi

I checked the amount of data I was using today and it was using crazy amounts. I have auto-sync disabled and restricted background data on for Google Services, although I think that only affects mobile data. This has been going on for over a week unnoticed.
So I saw that and restarted my phone hoping it will fix it but it didn't, So I checked my battery to see what app is using the most battery and it was Mediaserver which was using 43% (although I didn't have a battery problem until yesterday).
Here's screenshots: imgur.com/iz9HtZw, imgur.com/fzzreZo
(Sorry the forum won't let me post outside links so imgur will have to be copied and pasted)
Anyone else ever seen this before? I'm thinking of just reformatting the phone if there are no solutions but would rather not.

In my case, Its usually playstore that consumes the most insane data over wifi (auto updates). also location (GPS) services. you'll need to check those out.
As for your battery, consider using greenify to put a leash on rogue apps and processes.

Android OS Data Usage

Can someone explain me why Android OS uses so much data? I have most of my apps disabled and I also turned off background data usage for most of the apps. But data usage on 4g is 20 times more than on Wi-Fi. How to fix it?
P.S location and sync are off too
