I found a tutorial of how to root G9300 or G9350 (Chinese variant) on a Chinese forum (http://bbs.gfan.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=8278857) and quite some people already did that.
How is this possible?? I though all SD820 devices are locked pretty tight? Does this mean US variants also have a chance?

The chinese ones don't have a locked bootloader, their carriers aren't as nazi'ish as ours.

I see. Thanks for clarifying!
I thought it was that they have an app that unlocks it. CROM or something.

I think Samsung dropped the ball on this one..They should of follow HTC and done a universal world GS4 developer edtion with 64gb+SD card. With bootloader unlocked. And works with LTE ATT and Tmobile also..
who knows that might be in the tow too
Bootloader is always unlocked on Galaxy devices. Rooting is also really easy.
No need for Developer Edition.

Developer Edition=get updates quicker than the carrier version+LTE bands for US customers on a global device.

Engadget says bootloader is locked. Locked on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon at the very least. Judging by how Sprint's GS4 has a locked bootloader, I'd be inclined to say that many, many more models are locked out of the box.
Root should be easy but I have a strong feeling that custom ROMs/kernels won't be nearly as easy.

I hope not. I need someone with an international i9500 or i9505 to post an image of their download mode text. If Write Protection is on, word needs to get out fast and devs need to jump on it because we will have a situation like the VZW GS3 on our hands.

It IS the case. Confirmed repeatedly. Maybe the international versions won't have locked bootloader.

From reading the i9505 model is bootloader locked but the i9500 is unlocked.

In order to support the Galaxy S8/S8+ on XDA with the LIGHT PATCH we need to have a Thread/Device Maintainer before! If You would like to know more take a look right here:

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the updated link, but I have unfortunate news. SD S8/S8+ do not have unlockable bootloaders, so no TWRP or root available.

The Snapdragon Version? That means Samsung forces European customers to buy the Exynos Variant which is unlockable while the US gets the Snapdragon which is locked?
What kind of slaving is this? Looks like Samsung don't wants us to use AOSP so we have to buya new Device every Year to get the latest Android!?
I would really like to support the Users of the Samsung Devices but i'm sad to hear that it will not happen yet :/ What about the S7? Has anyone cracked it?

S7/S7edge do indeed have root by way of Engineer Boot kernels flashed through Odin. They also have locked bootloaders though so no TWRP.

As long as root is available and the System R/W it will work. Cross My Fingers for the S8 Snapdragons! It is really a great Device on the Hardware Side...
I've experienced the same locked Bootloader Story with the LG G5 which means for Me less Users all over XDA. Really a bummer! Looks like i go back to Sony which are Worldwide unlockable (except for some strange Carriers in the far East). They are also very open to XDA and the custom Szene around Android which is unique somehow. I've to support them...
Thanks for the Infos Mate!

Well......I mean there's no way to use it. (in America at least)
Real or not. We can't really use it...
no bootloader unlock though.
Pretty clear in the first statement in red in the OP.
Chinese version only...this is nothing new as historically the chinese snapdragons have not had locked bootloaders.
Means absolutely nothing for the US and CAN snapdragon devices which unfortunately are locked down and will likely never see TWRP.

I just read the article on XDA it didn't say TWRP was only available for Chinese version but it did say Chinese snapdragons are the ones with unlocked boots....leaving it no use for American versions of snapdragons....but it seems we have TWRP if by some miracle our boots could be unlocked....but.....lol unless it's too early and my eyes need to be wiped and I read wrong please forgive me lol

Without a locked bootloader yes twrp is easily possible..but i very much doubt the s8 bootloaders will ever get unlocked. Plus since the exynos is easily available and never locked there is really no huge demand to bother with the snapdragon.

Yeah. Standard issue policy for AT&T and Verizon. And just for the interest (I know it's the offtopic), which CPU does AT&T's version of J727 use?

No one can really talk about it on xda because it's a paid service. But it's the only way. Xda has made it clear they don't want it discussed on here. There are no other services online anywhere. It is legit. It is real. Just xda and their rules prevent us from actually making it a thing
