You don't need to flash the stock kernel if you want to flash a newer version of the same kernel.

Oh wait... my bad, just saw that if you run a old version you need to flash the stock kernel in order to be able to run the newer ones...
Just flash the kernel img from the factory image in TWRP Recovery.

Can you please explain how to do that? If I download the factory images, in TWRp I will be able to flash just the kernel? It's separate?
Thank you in advance
I've created a flashable zip of stock kernel MOB30D for you

@patensas, although I do not know how current this firmware version is, I placed the link of your thread into the firmware thread in order to be stripped from the red warning sign. Is that ok with you?
Sure why not? The thread is named [SHARING] for a reason
And it`s latest from todays OTA

To flash OTA you need the stock rom with stock recovery.

alright so for flashing OTA you must be relocked or locked / not rooted / complete stock with recovery and all. and yeah you can install OTA with the stock recovery provided it is for your MODEL ID AND CID.

OTA = over the air update (firmware update)
firmware = operating system as a whole

You can't flash the OTA. Grab the recovery flashable version of 38R from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2906746
You're gonna need to perform a full wipe before flashing though.
I have an interesting question here.
I want to update to latest firmware
cm-12.1-YOG4PAS3JL-bacon-signed.Zip so I have taken nandroid backup of my current ROM ( System,Data,Cache,Boot ) Now if I clean wipe and just flash the cm-12.1-YOG4PAS3JL-bacon-signed.Zip and then restore my nandroid backup will my firmware ( Radio , Modems etc ) be upgraded ??
Sent from my A0001 using Sultan Powered Cyanogen
Restoring the nandroid update will just put back your previous rom as it was when u backed up. So it won't update ur firmware.. I suggest backing up ur data. You can use titanium backup for backing up your apps+data. And restore the data after u flash the cm 12.1.
Cheers
But I haven't taken backup of firmware ?
Also Pls explain me then wats the fun of flashing official cm12.1 nightly before flashing a lollypop custom ROM ? To update firmware so my question is in the same way if I flash a latest nightly and then restore my previous custom ROM will my firmware be upgraded
simply help me how to check firmware version

The rom u had backed up is of which lollipop version?
---------- Post added at 06:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 AM ----------
Also in when u take a nandroid backup, it takes firmware back too.. u cant do anything about it. Its apart of the system back up.
---------- Post added at 06:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:42 AM ----------
If u really want the updated firmware with your current custom rom..then i suggest u just flash this:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347848312
with your custom rom.
This is the latest firmware for 12.1. then u dont need to flash cm12.1 rom. just flash this with your custom rom..
But if your custom rom is not 5.1.1. Then it wont work. It may cause a bootloop. So, first verify ur lollipop version before doing this.

I already compiled it but couldn't flash it right. I tried to use your Moto G peregrine zip to flash it ( I took out reference to the peregrine but a no go.) I am going to try to abootimg it into a newly built newboot.img to test it out more and then I will let you know more. Thanks.
Made the boot.img but it didn't boot up.
That's weird, I got this directly from LG. Did you flash the boot.img in twrp or fastboot?

The problem I'm having is I don't know how to flash a zImage-dtb to a device. So I tried the abootimg and yes I tried it through TWRP. I can't get a dt.img to compile. I am trying to build TWRP from source so I am going through Google to try to find a way to get it flashed through a flashable zip. I am using the lv3_mpcs_us_ defconfig to see if that was the issue as I used the perf defconfig.
You could just try the command in cmd:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
