2 SD Cards in Deep Freeze (?), Unchangable Nothing I do changes it, Please Help - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I have a relatively new z3 the problem is I broke it really bad and most of the damage is in the sd card side, now this might have nothing relevant but info is info right.
So my Z3 makes my SD cards frozen in time, basically whatever change I do gets reverted. I tried formatting, nope. Just reverted. Whenever I delete something it comes back but the file changes to new, like when I delete old pictures they show up at the top of the latest pictures.
This has happened with 2 different 64 gig sd cards so I'm scared to try another expensive one but I've been using a 16 gig card and so far (1 month) so good which scares me actually.
This is like the internet cafes with deep freeze installed you know? Whatever you do once you restart it restores the image. They're just frozen, I can download things and add things but can't delete things or "write" things. Also I couldn't hook it up on my PC with the bad sd cards but the moment I took them off voila. The pc could see the phone without lagging.
What can I do? Does anyone know even what this is? Z3 did this, not the sd cards as it happened with 2 seperate cards. Both happened the same way, I was adding files via PC then lag came, non responsiveness then they got "frozen". I also can't use 'em with SD card adapters.

This seems to be the same problem but with the different phone, it acts as deleted but comes back. Like readable but not writable.

Issue with SD card on Dexter's Froyo 1.3 - Help

I've been using Dexter's froyo v1.3 for a week or two now, with basically no real issues. About 3 days ago or so, when I powered on my phone - you know how the sd card symbol appears in the status bar right when u turn on phone, it's loading sd card - so I see that symbol, but unlike how it usually is, it doesn't go away after a second (after it's loaded). So I pull down status bar and the icon says "checking for errors" and it doesn't go away at all. SD card just won't load. Oh I should mention -just remembered - I turned it on and I got "error with sd card, you may have to reformat" (or something like that) right before and then it just changed to "checking for errors" after I took out the sd card and reinserted.
Anyways, so my SD card isn't loading, right. I figured it might have something to do with the fact that I was using the SD card that came with it which is low class (2). I tried putting it in an SD card reader and put into my computer and it showed up and worked with no issues. But it just wasn't working on my XT720. So what I did was, I happened to have an extra micro SD card lying around (this one class 4) and I put it into the XT720. It worked just fine. That was a few days ago.
A few hours ago, I was using my camcorder on XT720. After using for quite a while I got "sd card not present, sd card must be present to use camcorder". I left the application and went to settings and my sd card was registered as present. I then went to gallery but I got the same "sd card not present" thing. My phone felt very hot at the time, which I assumed because I was using it for a while. I figured it might be an issue of overheating causing weird things. So I decided to power off my phone for a while and see what happens.
Upon turning on my phone, I was greeted with the SD card icon in the notification bar and upon pulling down; "Checking for errors". Now this new SD card won't load.
This is a really big issue for me, because I really need the SD card for stuff. Both SD cards seem to work fine in SD card reader on PC. Please let me know how I can fix this...
(sorry for making this so long, just wanted to have all info available).
....
Apparently this looks like a huge, long unresponded to issue for many people and not specific to Dexter's Froyo: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2500
I'm going to try some of the solutions people posted, but problem seems unfixed for majority of users .
Gaaaaaah. My Android experience has been plagued with far too many issues....
What sucks is that if I want to flash back to stock to try to use warranty, I'm going to have issues if I need an SD card....
It seems you've already determined the issue, you have excluded the SD card(s) as the source of the problem. This leaves one thing - your phone is defective.
Flash it back to stock and send it in for service.
This issue has absolutely nothing to do with what software is on your phone.

You don't need the sdcard to flash a stock SBF with RSD lite.
I kept having same problem. If u are using move 2 SD or anything like that select auto and not Justin external I had to reformation my card about 3 times b4 I figured it out. Dexter posted somewhere not to use these apps.
similar issue with sd card
The only problem I've had with my sc card is that most of the time after my phone has been rebooted, the sd card will show up as not present once the phone has completely finished booting. Sometimes I can just reboot again and it will pick up on it but usually what I have to do is shut it down, remove the card, start it up and then once it indicates the sd card is not present I can reinsert and it loads just fine. I have an 8gb class 4 that came with the phone.

I tried that once (it was something mentioned in that link I posted) but it didn't work. I'll probably try it out again before attempting to use warranty.
I would also try reformatting the sdcard, just because Windows can read it doesn't mean there aren't issues with the card.
K, so I put it in SD Card reader and into PC and began transferring all the files on the card to a new folder. During this process I got a pop-up a bunch of times telling me specific files were corrupted and unreadable and couldn't be transferred (mostly music filer for the most part). I then formated the card to delete the remaining corrupted stuff. Now put into phone and it registers as being there and now things like camera are working.
Gonna have to see how it fares when stuff are actually on the card, but for now things are looking good.
Thanks for the help guys, will update if I encounter further problems.
EDIT:
And after transferring some music on to it, it still seems to be working fine. Needless to say, I'm quite happy I don't have to go through the hassle of flashing stock and then trying to get a device exchange for warranty...
Though I am slightly worried that the device itself will corrupt things again (since my other SD card also worked fine for a few days). But I did also do a complete factory reset so perhaps there was some app causing issues that no longer will... Guess we'll see what happens.
I had problems with my stock (Cincinnati Bell) SD Card doing a similar thing -- showing up as no card inserted. Sometimes rebooting did the trick in fixing it. Then my phone fried and quit working. I thought it was related.
After I received a new (refurb) from Motorola as a warranty replacement, I used that same card and was getting the same error. So I upgraded to a new 32GB class 4 card and still got the error. I upgraded to Dexter's ROM and it still continued. I'd keep rebooting (three to four times sometimes) and eventually it would go away.
Then I decided to pull everything off the card, reformat & give it an ext3 partition using the method in the video tutorial in these forums. I haven't had the issue since -- it's been about a week now.

[Q] Phone keeps losing installed apps on SD card

So I've been having this issue for about a week now. All the apps installed on my phones SD card once I reboot are not loading up. I know the data is still there because the first time that it happened I spent the better part of day freaking out thinking everything was gone gone. At some point I thought of checking of the data by plugging in into the computer. Turns out (1) all the apps miraculously return (2) I can't mount the SD card anymore (3) I can't unmount the SD card anymore either.
What is the deal? It's kind of annoying to lost everything every time you reboot. I'm not really in the mood to tether my phone each time for the unforeseeable future just to keep everything loaded. Has this happened to anyone before? What should I do?

What do you mean, the icons? I'm going to assume that's what you're referring to, for this reply...
If that's what you meant, icons on the home screen take a few seconds to get themselves drawn, if apps are on SD.
You can switch to a different skin then switch back to your original skin, to get them to redraw. Or delete/reposition them one at a time. It's a workaround, but changing the skin temporarily is faster.
It's a sense bug, I'm pretty sure.
Doesn't happen if apps are installed on the phones internal storage, so until they fix it, move your apps onto internal storage, if you don't want to deal with this each time you reboot. They run faster if they're not on your SD anyway.
Unless you have waaaay more apps than you really need, of course.
Sorry should've been a little more specific. The shortcuts on my home screen are all no longer working and I'm well aware of how long it takes for sense to load them up on startup but even when I go to display all apps it only displays the apps on internal storage. In fact each and every app on the card (in the apps settings) has a funny icon that has a little "sd" on it now and just says computing and will not load.
And since writing this I can no longer get the phone to load any apps from the sd card by tethering it to the computer. It's still accessible - just downloaded today's song from amazon and played it - but apps on it are almost like they're gone.
This happens to me sometimes too. But usually when it happens to me I can go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications and move the troublesome app to internal storage, and then it's fine. It never completely disappears.
It might do you some good to reformat your SD card. Move everything off of it first, then format it, then put everything back on.
Is it the stock 8GB SD card, or a different one?

Yup.
@homeslice976 copied, formatted (made sure it was FAT32), copied everything back and no dice. Same symptoms, Apps will not load.
@zuriken I don't know why you asked about the stock SD card or not, do you think it needs to be replaced? It's only been since February.

full format, chkdsk /f, still nothing though. This is honestly getting to the point where I'm tempted to switch to another phone. Why can't I access my stuff?
Another new bonus, every time I get some sort of alert it now plays random MP3s from the SD card. What is going on...

I'd try a brand new, good quality SD card before resorting to switching phones.
Have you flashed any custom roms or anything? I didn't see you mention either way.

It's gonna be a little while until I can try a new SD card but I'll get back to you.
The only ROM I loaded was the one to originally root that removed the uploading cap from ATT.
I also solved where the random sounds were coming from apparently it doesn't want to play my selected theme and no matter what I do the only one that works is the original HTC default 2010 one or if I download any only the Celesta theme plays... I have a sinking feeling that copying all this funky data isn't going to resolve anything but I'll give it a go.

Good luck.
Since you haven't been messing with multiple roms and such, I don't know what else it could be, other than the SD card taking a dump.

[Q] Cannot delete or add to SD card

A few days ago, I tried taking some pictures with my Droid Charge and the pics would not save. I tried in the stock camera app and in CameraZoom EX. CameraZoom gave me an error message "failed to save photo to SD car (error code=2). I figured I was out of space.
My Titanium Backup scheduled backup did not run the next day. So, I assumed I was out of space.
I connected the phone to my PC and deleted some pics and music. WHen I was in WIndows explorer, it said I had about 2 GB free after doing all of this.
When playing music today, I noticed files that I had deleted before still present on the phone. I thought this was weird. I went back and checked and all the stuff I thought I deleted was still there.
I searched on the CameraZoom EX error code 2. It directed to remove and reinsert the card and reboot. I tried that. I have tried unmounting and then mounting with no success either.
My phone seems to be working fine, but I cannot delete or add anything to the microSD card (the original that came with the phone). It does not matter if I use my WIndows 7 laptop, desktop, or various file managers on the phone itself.
ANy idea what is going on?
To me, it sounds like the SD card is going bad. Not a common occurrence but it can happen. You're lucky you can still read from it... I would suggest getting a new SD card (Verizon might even give you a new one free) and copying your data to it before sectors start going bad. By the way, how did you manage to full up 32 gb?
Or I could be blowing this out of proportion and it's just a matter of write protection on the card.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Another option is to copy everything off the SD card, format it, and try to write everything back. Sometimes a format can joggle a bugged card.
It is mostly music that I have on there. I am not sure how write protection would have gotten on the microSD card or how I would remove it. It does not have a physical togge like an SD card does.
I think I may have to try re-formatting. Ugh.

Corrupted SD card. Call VZW and be nice on the phone, explain the situation, hopefully they send you a new one.
Hmmm, this is interesting. I cannot even format the microSD card. I tried to do it through Windows Explorer. It looked like it worked. I then tried to copy files back on and it choked halfway through on a movie, I think.
Anyway, what was more interesting is that when I looked at the drive again, everything was back where it originally was. So, the re-formatting must not have actually worked.
I then tried to erase the SD through the options in Android. I unmounted. I then selected Erase SD card. After rebooting (to just be safe), the SD card still is untouched.
THis microSD card has become an impenetrable force. More realistically, it must have write-protection enabled somehow as that is the only thing I can think of.
The question is how do I find out if write protection is enabled and how to disable it? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

[RESEARCH] SDCARD unmounted unexpectedly issue, probable cause, possible fix.

OK, seems I understand the issue, and seems also that I cornered the issue.
First, the card is working normally while DEVICE ISN'T SLEEPING.
Second, it happens mostly while WE'RE SLEEPING AT NIGHT or WHILE THE PHONE LEFT DEEP SLEEP (Paranormal Activity? LOL)
So, based on this: something in kernel/ROM/anything that control the power to SDCARD doesn't provide correct/adequate voltage or electricity to the SDCARD while the phone in DEEPSLEEP.
Or: the card don't want to be suspended in deepsleep, it just removing itself when instructed to sleep (this one is the card's fault).
And: any card thats been badly removed thousands times (it can do around 20 bad removal at 7h period so, count it yourself), its become broken/unusable but not fried as stated in many site). The chip broken, yes, but due to bad removal thousands times....
So, any response and research is needed on this.
Also disassembling the device to re-plug the sd/sim module flex inside doesn't help at all, so don't bother with it.
I'm really into this really, because my SIII has already killed two 32 GB Class 10 Cards... suddenly the last one was a week ago I copied a filed restarted phone to recovery and boom SD gone... so I will check this post I think that the SD card killing case was only a few people but it seems like a major problem.
This is caused by bad quality SD cards. SanDisk already admitted it as a failure on their side.
I've already spent countless methods in trying to debug and fix it. I solved it by buying a new card.
Hmm, so the moderators can delete this thread as it seems that this doesnt need any research...
Coz many also said that using Samsung's card also got this trouble...
[solved] sd card umounting galaxy note 4 autosync dropbox
There are security files on the SD card that are markers that can't be over written. Simply copy all your data to a pc. Then format using the note sd format. Then copy only the important files like pictures movie ect. It's a security feature just start over.

[Q] z3 deleted files & renamed folders on SD

Hi all
Today i took my Samsung 64GB SD card out of my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 (after unmounting the card first of course!) and put it in my Xperia Z3, but upon viewing the contents of the card I see that 99% of the photos, videos and music that was on there has been deleted. The card shows as having 59.9GB free space. The data that I have lost totals roughly 40GB.
Also, the folder names have been altered, for example "music" has become "music.7" and "photo" has become "photo.3".
Can anyone explain why this may have happened, and if there is a way of recovering the data?
Since the data loss i havent used the card, aside from putting it back in the Note Pro 12.2 in the hope that the data would show on this device. It didnt.
I would be gutted if there is no way of retrieving my family photos and videos.
And yes, i know I you'll all say i should have backed up, but funnily enough I took the card out of the Note Pro 12.2 to begin doing just that! how ironic.
If it didn't work in the z3 I'd have put it back in the note to retrace my steps. Files don't just disappear without cause. I always turn my device off when I pull the card. Plus being that it's "android", could there be a (godforbid) sync issue?

hmm, well as i said above I did just that. Saw that the z3 showed an almost blank card and put it back in the note.
Aside from the data loss I am also intrigued how the folder names became changed from the moment just before I unmounted the card to when i put it in the z3. What on earth would have caused that?!
Sorry to hear that really. Tbh, it has to be a note issue being that when you unmounted and removed it that is when it happened. I would go through all it's settings to see if it or an apk installed has some weird permissions. Don't you just love android? I find it fascinating if not quite the child-like OS. Not enough transparency or control whatsoever.
afaik android doesn't have many issues with viruses but it might have been one.
or
the files are stored to a cloud and aren't on your card but online somewhere (an app uploaded them for you)
or
the files have been compressed (unlikely since i don't believe you can compress 50gb to 10gb)
anyways, you can try several sd card recovery tools
