Google now on tap is greyed out - Xiaomi Mi 4

I want to activate the google now on tap. the action is there but it cant be enabled and greyed out. my language setting is english. I've found a thread on this forum that stated out you have to set google as voice and assist input app as default to enable this, but I can't find that on 'setting' menu. any suggestion?

Setting keyboard "show correction suggestions" setting to "Always Show" doesn't work

Setting keyboard "show correction suggestions" setting to "Always Show" doesn't work
There is a problem that we are experiencing for long time. Please, star it in order of Google devs see it. Thanks.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39729
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Make sure the Android Keyboard is set as your input method.
2. Navigate to settings > Language & Input > Android Keyboard Settings
3. Set "Show correction suggestions" setting to "Always Show"
4. Open Google Now and tap the search box
5. The Android keyboard is displayed, but does not give suggestions
What happened:
When using the Android keyboard, suggestions are not always shown to you as you would expect. A proper description of current "Always show" implementation is "Always show...with some exceptions"
(Note: This is presumably because textNoSuggestions and/or TYPE_TEXT_FLAG_NO_SUGGESTIONS is set for the inputType in the apps where suggestions are not shown)
What you think the correct behavior should be:
1. Keep the current implementation of "Always Show" but rename it "Show when enabled" or just "Enabled" (or anything that doesn't have the finality of "always")
2. Add new implementation of option "Always Show" that ignores the app's preference for showing suggestions and actually ALWAYS show suggestions.
Bump

only suggestion I can give is, stop using any custom roms. they dont focus on this little s***... it woks fine with my straight stock but rooted..
How? I'm using stock rom in my Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus and it's terrible to use the swipe feature of keyboard.
Bump. Still in 4.3.
Bump. Please star it.
for anyone still looking for a solution there is the Kii keyboard on the play store which offer the option to keep the correction bar visible while retaining the same look and feel of the original Google keyboard.
Need some help with this Feature!!
I struggle to have this option work correctly on any of my keyboard apps not only google. Allot of times theres no suggestions and what happens is the auto-correct feature kicks in instead. Now i rather have the correct way to spell a word or options for similuar words above the number keys on my keyboard. But instead theres no suggested words at all and my typing becomes etrocious and words get spelt with numbers randomly placed around and nothing corrects however words do, I guess you say the oppisite of correct? I might type "Thanks" allot and because ive hit "5hnks" hitting "5" by mistake makes the keyboard think "thats a new word, let me add that to my dicitionary" and now "thanks" becomes "5hnks" and many words that begin "Th" are now replaced to "5h" because the keyboard has auto learned Incorrectly thinking its being smart to learn how you type, Does this make any sence? its anoying when i dont cath the mistakes.. I want a better working "Sugested words" Option?
Have you found a solution?
I have tried here:
- Go Keyboard (my favorite)
- Hacker's Keyboard
- Swiftkey Keyboard.
- Cute Emoji Keyboard
Only swiftkey and Cute were able to show predictions/suggestions everywhere.

[Q] Voice input key not showing up! Any idea?

Regardless of application, there is no voice input key!
Key Missing: i.imgur.com/ qEM5H3l.png
Settings: i.imgur.com/ uQWjULU.png
Any idea what to do? I tried restarting, un-checking the Voice Input Key and re-checking it, and crying to Google Now that I need the setting to work.
Saying, "OK, Google" works fine.
You need to enable it in Settings > Language and Input > Automatic voice typing

[ROOT] "Say OK Google" permanent in GNL and Hotword Detection in all screens

[ROOT] "Say OK Google" permanent in GNL and Hotword Detection in all screens
In the Google Now Launcher, As part of the "training" a message/prompt appears in the search bar that says "Say OK Google".
I know that I and a few other people on XDA and around the web found this feature quite neat and its little animations were quite nice.
However, after saying "OK Google" a few times to activate the Voice Search, the text would disappear as you were now "trained" and knew how to use the Hotword.
I was quite bummed by this obviously and always tried to get it back by clearing Google Search's data, which would reset my launcher settings too. This would reset the "training" and bring back the text but it had a downside and would also clear away all the apps/folders/widgets that I had on my homescreens.
A few days ago, Google Search was updated and a new feature was introduced which would enable you to say the OK Google Hotword on every screen e.g apps, lockscreen (You could only do this on homescreens in GNL previously). Unfortunately, Google decided to not make this feature available on the Moto X and Moto G (Which I currently have).
I found a thread on XDA which showed me how to enable this feature via a ROOT app called Unleash The Google
Basically, the app enables the dogfood/experimental/developer features of Google Search via Google Search Settings
After messing around with the new DogFood Features, I discovered that I could make the "Say OK Google" Text in GNL's Search Bar permanent instead of disappearing after a few uses.
I will tell you how to make the text permanent firstand later explain how to enable Hotword Detection on every screen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Download Unleash the Google
2. Install the app and open it. After it finishes loading, you should see a screen that tells you to force stop Google Search. Do so by going to Apps and FSing the Google Search app.
3. Now scroll down the Google Now screen, press the 3 dots and click Settings.
4. You should now see a space on the bottom that says Config Flags. Click it.
a) To get the "Say OK Google" Text all the time, press the 6th setting titled "Always_show_hotword..."
b) To enable the "OK Google Hotword on every screen" feature, turn on "Enable_E300" and "E300_Voice_Everywhere". scroll down to "speaker_id_supported_locales" and press it. type in "en-US" (Must be that and Im pretty sure its case sensitive).
5.After doing that, scroll all the way to the bottom and press "Save Config Settings".
6. Press the Home button on your Nav Bar and then press the search box.
You should now see the "Say OK Google" Text on your search bar and/or be able to say the "OK Google" Hotword from every screen by activating it by going back to "Google Search Settings" > Pressing Voice > Enable Audio History > Press OK Google Detection > Enable "From any screen" and/or "From lock screen". You should see a new screen with prompts. Complete Them and every thing should work fine !
Need to mention that I haven't enabled these settings for long so I'm still not 100% sure if the text will stay on forever
Don't forget to hit thanks if this helped you!
not working
I was looking for this for a really long time thank you
But this doesn't work on latest google version on 5.0.2 please man I really need this

I think you need to enable the " draw over other apps" under app permissions in settings

Thanks for the response. But I can't find " draw over other apps" under app permission under settings. All I can find under the app permission is toggle for camera, phone, location, storage etc. I found "multi window mode" in the developers option and I enabled it but that didn't solve my problem either. Tried googling, but got no solution. Some said that "display floating window" has been dropped by google in android 6 due to security reasons. Is that true?
Edit: Thanks. Solved my problems. Many thanks.
Settings - notifications - manage notifications - select desired app and turn on floating window
There is a multi-window option under developer settings. Just saying. I know it is not the same as floating windows.

help!

What is this? And why does it pop up in my input bar??
Found this on another forum.
Located the issue. It was in Language and Input>Input Assistance>Autofill Service Google> Settings>Debug Settings> Show Detection Fill Option. It was turned on. Appreciate all the assistance and suggestions.
