Most everyone is getting more than 5 hours screen on time. It might be a rogue app eating your battery.

Do you think that Smart Stay is battery greedy? I use it, it is useful.
Sended from my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Gold Platinum

I noticed an immediate improvement in battery life after turning it off. However, if i found it useful i would have left it on. The device charges so fast that extra battery life hardly matters when I'm not away from a charger all day.

I read around and the drain is present even in the phone with Smart Stay disabled so I don't think that it is the problem.
Sended from my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Gold Platinum

Battery drain on stand by is IMO kernel issue. Usually stock kernel drains battery much almost with every phone. Same happened with my previous one LG G2, but when I installed custom rom, battery drain stopped and had 100 % battery for many hours (when I am at work and can't use phone much). With S7 (stock rom, no root) when I come to work it is already few % down without doing anything (same app setup as on LG G2) even with always on feature turned off.

milicevic - lg is known for that '' 100% battery problem '' switched from g4 to s7 and i get around 1,2hr more SOT with s7 ( cca 4,5hrs )

From my experience with these 2 models SoT is better on Samsung and Stand by Time on LG. I was just comparing stock and custom rom and LG was no ace at all with stock. But when I was on LG G2 CloudyFa's custom rom based on stock KitKat (later on Lollipop) with his own made kernel, Stand by Time was so great. I really miss that.

for some reason i have terrible screen on time, cant really get to 2.5 hrs.
iv noticed that apps has more battery than my screen..
ill upload some more pics after i deplete the battery tnite. like sometimes chrome's (50%)and even the battery manager(5%) takes a lot of usage.
leads me to think its a cpu problem it was overheating before i installed latest firmware from xxuamde to xxuamdl, im going to try xxuamdk i heard that one fixed issues....

Been using i9500 for few days now, cycle charged for a few times. I found that the battery life has improved significantly. Of course, made some adjustments to settings like, WiFi off when device is sleeping, off all sensors including GPS, battery safe mode with cpu speed limit..
Using the phone for reading mostly, a little candy crushing and phone calling...
Still waiting to see if it can do better than 5 hours screen on time...
p.s, the first day i used was having 3.5hours of screen on time from 100% to below 10%..
Weird without tweaking or touching anything from first charge I got 5hrs screen on time with a day uptime. I'm lucky I guess

@Moderators: Merge ?
Have to say battery life is a HUGE let down. I get about 11hrs out of it with about 4.5 hours screen on time. Only browsing the web, no video or music streaming.
I'm gonna sell it for the quad core Nexus version just announced.
same here
I'm getting up to 24 hours usage - medium to light use. Almost 5 hours display on time. I know though that it will drop slightly lower if I do more intensive tasks with my phone. I'm satisfied with it. Plus, the fact that the charging time is just a little over 2 hours from 5% to 100%... I think its pretty amazing.

continued to be blown away by battery life

I got my note from tmob and have it on att.
After root and killing all the bloat, the battery is just amazing on this phone.
I am at 1 day and 10 hour off the charger with screen time of 3 hours and 52 minutes and I still have 49% battery
Thats with facebook and gmail checks all day and running in the background. Photos, text etc etc.
Finally 2 day + phone
I'm actually pretty disappointed by the battery life... I "only" get 6.30h ost and 1 day battery life(no wake locks and the phone is settled pretty well with useless function disabled), with sync always active and on wifi only, I personally thought that it will be better considering all the good comments on the webs, I was getting the same battery with my iPhone 5 before(that it's very criticised for its battery).

That sucks having to turn of syncing. That's the main feature of a smart phone. Sync to and from computer or cloud.

My Note 3 has had awesome battery life, far exceeded my expectations! 10hrs at work with moderate to heavy use with a signal only 75% of that time (inside a building with thick concrete and re bar, not the phones fault). At most ive used 48% of the battery and that does not include the commute. I have sync turned on as well.

Syncing it self is turned on, its the individual settings that's been changed:
Sync Chrome? no..
Sync Gmail? no...
Sync My Tracks? no...
Sync Picasa Web Albums? no...
Sync ChatOn Contacts? no...
Sync Samsung Calendar? no...
Sync Internet? no...
Sync Scrapbook? no...
Sync Skype Contacts? no...
So I'm not really sure what you're getting at. K9 handles my mail via push. Google calendar, contacts and one or two other things is left on but everything else I don't need it waking up my CPU every so often to sync.
Also for the Accuweather widget, all the battery saving features are turned on (which aren't on by default for some reason), sync every 4 hours.
@op : could you tell us which bloat you removed?
Also is there anyway to root safely that doesn't void the warranty?
I have the N9000 version
basically anything that was tmobile or just garbage. I also freeze a lot of stuff I simply never use. S-voice.. nope.
Not sure on the warranty thing. I am fairly certain this will trip the Knox counter which I dont think has been cracked to roll back... but thats just my understanding.
Battery life is pretty decent, provided you manage your phone as opposed to being a lazy sod who sets everything to automatic.
"But it's meant for it!" being the world's most idiotic excuse after "she asked for it", everyone with a scrap of common sense understands that there is a whole universe between 'what the customer wants' and 'what is possible according to the laws of physics'.
WiFi eats about 15% per hour, with the screen off. 3G 5%. Add the screen and cpu to that and make you own calculations.
I do 10 days with mine if I turn everything off and manually toggle 3g on once every 2h to check mail.
I've been on 3g, tapatalk & 30% brightness, went from 100% to 94% in 10 minutes.

I use it mainly for office purpose and email exchange is ever hungry on push mails. I was quite disappointed to see that I was charging twice a day in day time. But after the OTA update things seems better, where I charge only in night.
Anyways, I got my 12,000 mah power bank for emergencies. I hate swapping batteries.
My heavy uses are exchange emails, browsing, WhatsApp. That's all, and yet Note 3 craves more power. Need on the go sunlight/light charge system

My battery last so long that at the end of the day I am doing stuff make it run down.
Of course I turn off wifi when not using and data.
I am pretty sure with root I could get more but I need my warranty for at least another month.
Usually a device will show its faults in a month so I will wait.

I've had my N3 for a week now, and compared to my razr HD, it runs at least a day longer. I'm on about 3 full days per charge.
As my phone is more or less a toy, I don't use the internet part that much (I have a 200MB restriction) while away from home, but regularly use wifi for about an hour per day. Other than that, I use it for puzzle games and reading.
I know that this won't match others usages, but I'm ok with 3 days. Maybe if I tweak some settings, I get 4???
I'm quite disappointed too with the battery, the screens chews up too much battery on full brightness

I would say yes, who knows what your screen brightness was at even though I am sure it was probably at auto. Talking on the phone can drain a lot of battery.
Why note 3 to nexus 5, seems odd?
Well you did talk on the phone for a while. But Google Search is draining the battery more than it should. I would just reboot and do another full charge. Google Search was draining my Nexus 7 the other day and the reboot/recharge seemed to have fixed it. For now anyway. Android OS/Google Search seems to be a recurring bug. Unless of course you were using google now a lot, in which case it would probably be normal.

I had the note 3 I just wasn't a big fan of the build quality and the Samsung over lay of it. I always loved the nexus 4 and when I used the neuxs 5 in person I fell in love with the design and how smooth it was. But the battery is starting to worry me. I'm on cataclysm rom with Franco kernel r22. I have WiFi on with the phone using 3g only. I barely use Google search. The phone calls werent that long either. I just feel like the battery is being drained way to fast for no reason. I keep most apps closed after I'm done using then. I had greenify on and I have the kernel set to 1.7ghz. I just don't know what to do with anymore.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I went through it. I just need help with the voltages and all that. The best settings for battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
battery life isnt really about what kernel you use. battery life is all about how you use your phone, how you set it up, what apps you use, and most importantly, the quality of your phone/data connection. sure, a kernel might be able to help you get slightly better battery. but its really your use and your signal. and if your signal is bad quality, then your battery will always suffer.
"Good battery life" does not apply to "everybody" that has rooted. Many root and simply expect that battery life must be improved, but still need to understand the basic laws of physics first.
(People's definition of "Good" in this scenario also varies massively...)
It comes down to how you use the device. There is no 'best settings' you should be looking for. Save yourself the time, and first understand what is using your battery.
SOT is a measurement, but a crude one. It offers no insight into what those 6 hours were doing...You can be certain that it wasn't 6 hours gaming at 100% brightness though. Under relatively light CPU load, low brightness, good signal etc...the laws of physics will explain higher SOT...

What I did to improve my battery life was to deny most of the Google apps from waking my device and/or keeping my device awake. I have attached pictures. This improved my battery by atleast double. Also using 2g connection when connected to WiFi.
Those denied numbers have risen to 6 digits.

will i get better life if i only use one?
or is one nullifying the other?
just some random thoughts and would like to know everyone's experience with this.
thanks!
Both, i do not believe they nullify each other. Ive been using both for about a month now and have noticed increased battery life. currently at 35% on 12 hours 32 minutes of battery. Heavy use, music, wifi, bluetooth all running since unplugging.
