hello,
I've got issue with my S7. The proximity sensor doesn't always work with the phone app, or with the alwaysOn display to switch it off in the pocket. I have tested it with the *#0*# code. This shows a well working sensor.
Has someone an idea of what could disable the proximity sensor for apps?
Thank you for answers.
Regards
Frederic B.
I have the same problem, I don't know how to resolve that, please help someone
Hello.
I had the same problem. I didn't know if it was because of the last update or because of some packages I disabled with Package Disable Pro. I resolved the problem by reactivate all the packages and restart the phone. I again disabled some stuff and the proximity sensor is still working now.

...does NOT switch back
I have an issue, my sensor switches the screen black while doing a call, but does NOT switch back. So it's hard for me to finish a call. Checking with *#0*# code tells: away=8cm, near=0cm. but never switches back to 8cm if away from ear.
Stock Samsung, Factory reset didn't solve this. Is the sensor defective itself?
Hi, I also have a problem with my S7 proximity sensor. By checking *#0*# it seems to be totally dead. Is there anything I can do to try to fix it?
I also have same problem, my proximity sensor is not working. Please see attached images, the PROXIMITY always stays 0. So does that means proximity sensor is dead. Phone is still on warranty so I intend to take it back for repair.

I have a similar problem. The proximity sensor itself works flawlessly during calls and in the test menu, but even though I have the "don't wake up in pocket" enabled in the screen settings, it always wakes and turns the screen on (and starts to make accidental clicks) when in pocket and the home button is accidentally pressed by my leg/pocket. I made a factory reset which didn't help. I don't use Package Disabler Pro, so that shouldn't cause the issue. Any help on this?
Proximity sensor
I have found that if you uninstall Samsung pay the proximity sensor works correctly. For me it's still worked when I reinstalled Samsung pay but stopped working when I added the first credit card.

I had the problem until I went into the settings of SP and unticked the option to use "favourite card", the thing that makes the tip of a card sit at the bottom edge of the screen all the time.
Mine also stopped working, i was thinking of giving it back on warranty for further checking but as a last resort I reset my phone and now it started working just fine. Not sure what was the reason, I installed everything through backs back to phone and sensor is still working.
Same problem here.
I have done a Factory Reset but the trouble still persists...
Anyone else has had this trouble??
In my case i was abt to give it back in warranty. To prepare for that i backed uo and did a factory reset and since then sensor is working fine.

I have done a factory reset, but I'm on Superman ROM..... maybe I should flash a normal ROM??? I have tried two different versions of this rom, and always worked fine...

Well i think you should try. I am on stock ROM. Prior to reset i was also convinced that it is hardware issue but turned out otherwise.

I have been plagued by this problem for months now. It just seemed to pop up all of the sudden.
Either the screen would come on in my pocket, even though my screen is always off, or I'd go to pick up the phone to see what time it was and a proxemity warning , LARGE and ANNOYING, would cover the entire screen... sucks at 2am in the dark.
So...
SamPay has three options in Use favorite cards setting
O Lock Screen
O Home screen
O Screen off
All three were "on"
I will disable 'Screen off' first and see if that fixes my problem. If not I will work my way up the list.
I will (hopefully) report back in a day or two. IF it works for me, perhaps it will work for others.
Really what I want is an unlocked bootloader damnit.

Factory reset helped me when I had this issue. Good Luck!
Had the issue with a non working proximity sensor just out of the box and after the initial consequent updates all the way to Nougat. Found this thread and one day before sending it to the service center, tried the factory reset and works flawlessly ever after! Probably confirming the rule to reset once after every major update...!
Hello!
I have a problem with my proximity sensor and lights sensor too (see attached screenshot).
I have checked it with *#0*#.
It seems that the sensors will not be detected. The LED ist working.
A Factory reset didn't help.
What could be the problem?
Hello, any idea of what happened with all this sensors and the solution??
My problem is worst, because NONE sensor is working :crying: :crying:

I have a Google Nexus one. And like other Android user, I'm worry about my power button.
I have to turn on device by it, turn off device by it, light on screen by it, and light off screen by it...
This button is the most laboring component on my Android phone, I wanna release it, but I can't found any solution suit me in Market.
So, I start to study the Android API, and try to find a way to light on and light off screen without my power button.
Fortunately, I found the proximity sensor and light sensor are work on sleep mode, and I try to write an application to turn screen on and off by sensor.
This application named "Sense Lock", and renamed to "Light lock" after a few weeks to fit it's icon.
The partnership of light sensor and proximity sensor is work successfully on my Nexus one, but it not work on other devices, and causes the setting more complicated.
I forsake the light sensor reluctantly at edition 2.0, and now it's works on more 2.2 devices, such as HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD, Samsung i9000, etc.
I'm excited to present this application to you, and waiting for any suggestion and question. Please try it, this application is free.

Hi
Check Android Market, and found the app, but the comment said that it works with Nexus One only.
Can you clarify whether it works on the others?
it seems it will get annoying since if there is an object pass the sensor it will automatically turn off screen. It is a creative apps tho. But I don't think using the sensor will be the best idea.
Can't get it to activate lock on Desire. The device vibrates but doesn't lock.
The proximity unlock seems to work correctly.

The vibration indicates the lock function can be launched by long press only.
Please keep pressed, the device be locked in few seconds.
Else you can set the "Lock function on portrait mode" item's value to "Lock normally", then you can lock device by normal clicking.
how about when trying to make a call? obviously your ear will block the sensors will this app automatically be disabled?

then if pressed for >X sec the app will not unlock.

OP,
Interesting idea, but I use the trackball to wake and I have WidgetLocker in ADW to lock, but maybe I'll give this a try. I've never found sensor based locking to work in all circumstances and often annoying, but I too avoid using the power button as much as possible.
Thanks for the app
nice idea. thanks.
Works great on my N1
Had to tweak the values a little.

awesome app works nice on the Evo, now i noticed that like previously stated the sensor can be triggered by anything including putting the phone in ur pocket. is it possible to only activate the app via sensors if there are no other physical objects surrounding it, or just make a specific position the phone will use the senors via the gyroscope.
thx

Many Thanks Addre! Ur app works like a charm on my Motorola Defy!
P.S.: Would be a greater (it already is a great App!) app, if you can provide a widget for it.
I know the backlight comes on when dark or when you cover the front camera, anybody know on a rooted phone how to set it to have it on always when keyboard is opened?
Thanks, David
For a cheaters fix you could cover the light sensor with your index finger.
Not sure where it is in code at the moment though...
Tasker is probably capable of doing this
sent from rubix ics 5.2 mt4gs
I checked out tasker and it mentioned keyboard backlight, but couldn't confirm it would do what I need on the MT4GS..
so no software tweak, so I did a hardware tweak. I covered up the light sensor in upper left corner with black tape. Its the light sensor, not the front camera that is used. I was incorrect previously..

wow, thanks for the fast response after i necro'd this thread lol. i'm just rooted on the latest stock ROM 1.63.531.2. i imagine some ROMs might have a fix implemented? the thing is, i really like the stock ROM, especially the camera app.
You could mod a framework file to implement this. I think it's on framework-res.apk. on res/values/arrays.xml you need to find the array with the name "auto_KeyboardBacklight" I think and change all it's values into 255.

Your kb lights should light up just fine without this. Did they before?

well, they do light up, but it has to be very dark. there are way too many times when it is too dark to read the keys, yet the backlight does not come on.
this issue is even mentioned in reviews of the device such as this(towards the end of the 3rd paragraph):

it seemed that Tasker was the answer, but it just quit working! i believe i had it set up properly

ok, i may look into doing something like this. i wonder if it could be switched on and off tho, like during the day when i wouldn't want the backlight to come on and waste battery?
you could make a script to set the values directly on the kernel but I forgot the path. Will put it later when I get home

thanks buddy. might it be /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness? i notice that the value in that file is either 0 or 255, depending on whether the backlight is on or off.
Ahh yes! That's the right file. The number in that file represents how strong the led should light up. But in the case of keyboard backlight it's only 255 or 0 because it doesn't have any brightness control unlike LCD and camera flash.

Ideal situation would be to make the change in the kernel (it's in board.c if I remember right) and then write a skeleton app that works like a front-end to change the setting...or just mod the stock settings app to add it to the list.

The question that strikes me:
run script to set values pre-compile to save you from doing it manually, or are you talking about something to affect change to a live kernel?
Thanks guys for ganging up on this issue with me! I like the idea of adjusting the setting pre-compile..... I wonder if the backlight threshold can simply be lowered, so that it doesn't have to be so dark for it to come on? Is there a value for the light sensor perhaps that could be raised or lowered?
I appreciate the find of the Dark Key apk! I was actually looking for it, but it didn't seem to be in the market anymore. It does work and it seems decent as a toggle switch, but not perfect... It seems like when you toggle it on, it prevents the screen from going to sleep(I think anyway), and when you manually put the device to sleep and then wake it up, the apk turns the keyboard off for some reason.
I really like the way Tasker does it, if only it would continue working!
i figured out what is going with Tasker for me. it basically is working, but perhaps not exactly as i would like it to. it will indeed turn the keyboard backlight on anytime the phone is closed and i slide it open. however, if i leave the keyboard open, then put the device to sleep and wake it up, the setting reverts back to the light sensor being in charge... so it seems that the app needs the keyboard to open in order to trigger the setting... it does not simply detect that the keyboard is already open. oh well
ideally i would love to lower the threashold for the light sensor to turn on the backlight, probably in the source code itself. not sure how that would be done, plus i haven't even been able to get the newest source to boot up.
update: i figured out how the make Tasker do what i want by adding a second profile to also turn the keyboard backlight on when the device is unlocked! it works! yay
as you were....

I am very pleased with the phone too.
It feels very comfortable; the size is just right and is very lightweight and stylish.
Camera is very good, and the overall performance is excellent.
There are almost only pros for the phone: It is possible to use 3G with any of the sim cards; there is only one partition to install apps; it accepts 2 sim cards plus an sd card; It has 2 GB of RAM...
There is one concern, and that is the battery. I have only used it as a secondary phone for a few days, and I don't really know yet if the battery can last an entire day using it as my primary phone...
Another thing that bothers me is that the ring, notification and system volume are merged together, and you can't set different levels for each one...

I am using it in Portugal, and I have only made a satellite lock test. It works just fine, even indoors.
Got the iNew V7 about two weeks ago and it seems to be A-OK.
I use the phone as a mini-tablet. Bought, tracked and delivered (to USA) for $150.
Will be adding TWRP to do full backups and then will root it using the iroot instructions I found. Will report my findings on these efforts.
Must root phone to run xposed framework to run Bubbleupnp app in order to cast audio.
Put 32gig micro SD card in V7 but it does not recognize the SD card. Still working that issue. Geekbuying claimed max sd card size of 32gig.
Will report results and any phone foilbles.
Love the FM radio.
I purchased from POMP Mall Site, iNew V7 phone battery needs to be recharged every day.
I had this Phone for a week, and I am pleased . It has a nice battery life! Yesterday was an intense day of use, with data and wifi always active, GPS when needed , watsapp, facebook, 9gag . For more than 3 hours of screen time. Arrived at Night with 24 % battery still left .
And Really nice camera!

I concur, I've had this phone for about a month now and it's every bit fantastic. The word that best describes it - polished!
Everything is smooth, no bloatware, no hitches, no hiccups, no Chinese apps, no shoddy behaviour.
It's light, fast, superb screen and resolution, loads of RAM, fast CPU. The camera is excellent and GPS locks fast with great strength!
The battery? I use my phone for lots of calls and the occasional WIFI during the day. It lasts me 10 FULL days! I'd rate the battery 9.9/10!
I am very glad I paid slightly more for a higher-end device. It is worth every penny, and then some.
I think I'll be buying iNew from now on.
Hi there, got this handset delivered yesterday, and was extatic - everything about it was great, performance, battery, screen, looks... But today I'm thinking about selling it, because I encountered a problem that is a total deal breaker: touch screen. Today I discovered, that the phone is unusable due to constant "phantom" touches, that are happening when I'm typing text. Some happen on an adjacent buttons, but some on a buttons far from those I'm typing. Like, when I switch to the numeric keyboard and typing a lot of numbers, the phone just switches back to letters and so on. I entered a developers options and switched on options for showing touches and traces on screen, and was able to see, that sometimes when I make a brief tap on the screen, the trace of that tap is showing, that I made a line, and not a single dot. I tried to install several calibration programs, but none of them helped.
Did someone encountered the same problems? If so, how you managed to fix them?

I removed rom,but in 1~3 back again
my phone restarts by it self randomly, 3 times so far, 2 today,
did it happen to any of you guys?
Even worse: yesterday, completely spontaneous factory reset when I was not using the phone. I sent a message to Huawei about this. L29, B126.
That's not good at all! I hope for the rest of us yours is an incident by itself...
May be an individual case mine is ok, thank GOD

i looked into battery info before i charge the phone, the phone lost about 7-9% in that restart, there's a gap in the battery diagram, and the phone kept getting empty a little quicker !!!
Hallo all,
I have the same kind of problem.
Automatic restart of the Mate 9. frequention about one time a week. After restart some settings were changed.
The setting for standard location for memory was SD card.
After restart each time it was set to Internal memory. It seems to be a smal structural problem.
I reported this to Huawei NL. Regards.
Not sure if that is the cause of your problems, but haven't seen it mentioned here: there's a scheduled restart of the phone that can be programmed in the settings (Smart Assistance/Scheduled Power on and off). Maybe you guys enabled it by mistake?

Mine did the same too a few days back, was on B126.
It was rebooting every 5min. Got pissed off and exchanged it for a new unit.
It's my 3rd day on this one, no reboots so far, but still too soon.
Crossing fingers here ...

I also checked the settings for scheduled start and or stop were disabled both.
Could it be a rogue app? I don't have this issue, though I am still on B110

I only noticed the issue on B126. I was on B110 for nearly 2 weeks and didnt encounter the issue, but then again it wasnt my daily driver so couldve happened without me noticing...
I doubt its a rogue app as I have the same apps on all my phones, except for "built-in" ones from different vendors. And I tend to remove/disable most bloat.
B126 felt like a step up from B110, but it's not yet polished, its more like a day one firmware that needs an update or two to work well. Some of us are still facing issues with touch response due to palm rejection, or delayed push notifications.
Crossing fingers for quick and solid updates here, I really like the phone and would love it with less bugs.

If you have the reboot and touch issue that means a hardware problem.
I was on b110 and now b126 without any of the problems above.
But true the software need lot of improvement to be more polished.

I'm actually on my 3rd mate 9 so far, and only the second had the reboot issue.
But screen missing some touch was there on all 3. I'm. Pretty sure it's touch rejection issue as when I enable tap indication in Dev settings it shows all taps.

You are jumping to conclusions without any justification for them.
The touch screen issue seems to be broad, there's a lot of complaints about that. I've you're not too picky you may not notice it but I am so I have noticed some responsiveness issues every now and than. I think that is a software issue where the area the finger touches the screen is perhaps not interpreted correctly (touch diameter too small).
And sudden reboots are well documented sw issues which are often fixed with a software release.
Sure, it could be hardware but it very well can be sw as well.

An easy way for me is small objects in the top right corner , like when I try to tap the settings icon. It's either that the recognition area is too small or rejected. I noticed the issue is more prominent in built in software. Don't have this issue in apps from Google ...

So why I'm not having this issue? I tried clicking the settings maybe 50 times and all my touch are registered.
Do you have any screen protector on ur screen?

I just tried it and no problem, I can't remember how to use the screen recorder so i can upload for you my testing.
Also no problems here. I've tapped the icon countless times and it always registered. Also no random reboots to report. MHA-L29 running B126.
Hi guys,
I'm the owner of a Vivo NEX S and I love it. (Except some crappy options and bad translation of funtouchOS but overall when you've setting it up and remove all vivo stuff it's really optimized and not laggy at all)
But since three days the fingerprint scanner and the lockscreen behaved weirdly and since today the Fingerprint scanner stopped working. This morning when I've woken up, I've taken my phone and I tried to unlock it but it was behaving weirdly like the green light was working but it didn't try to scan my finger and it was directly saying an error but I've used it a bit and didn't care much attention to it in first place but 2 hours later it made the same strange behaviour and it fed me up so I've rebooted it and the Fingerprint icon never reappeared. In the lockscreen settings the "Use Fingerprint" is grayed out and it says "Fingerprint authentification error. Restart the device or contact customer service."
I've tried to :
-Wipe Cache (from recovery)
-Restore setting (from recovery)
-use the system repair option that download the last available firmware (from recovery)
-wipe data (from recovery
-to re-calibrate InDisplayfgp from Engineer menu (ussd code *#558#) but it says me "No ic detected"
-reboot like 8393771820 times
I've also like to add that I've dropped my device a couple of time, even changed my rear glass back by myself but I never took it apart and one month ago I've managed to drop it from my window (3,5-4meter height) :silly: when I was visiochatting (with the camera popped out) but happily and miraculy :victory: nothing cracked and it still look pretty new (it was in a Aliexpress case) and to this time the device continued to work normally, snappy as hell like a warrior to these days.
Today, the device is normal, still snappy except the Fingerprint who discontinued to work. I think that the last drop from the window desoldered bga chip of the fingerprint reader but it is just self expectations. Now the device still not turned off and I'm waiting to kill the last percent of the battery to see how it react after this. I think it may be hardware but this morning the fact that he was working a bit is driving me crazy.
Why do you guys think, what I should do?
Do you think it's a software or hardware issue?
Sorry for bad english guys, Nex-enthousiast from France.

Sounds like it's a hardware issue due to dropping it multiple times and/or doing your own repairs. Or maybe some of the so called bloat you removed was actually essential?
Hello,
I've worked in a small repair shop in my town so no worries I know what I did,
I just removed the last rear glass to replace it, I didn't removed screw, warranty label or anything on the phone. (But if you have already taken a nex in your hand you directly see that the rear replaced glass is a copy)
I've noticed when I'm on the instructions menu to "How to use Idfp" it's making little cracking noise like the scanner try to focus because we all know it's a small camera under the screen.
I don't think it's a software issue because all bloatware that I disabled was facing me no issues about the Idfingerprint in the last 6 months.
Yesterday I was wondering, how to see all available services even ones that are not running ? And how to re-launch some ones?
I'm gonna try to contact Vivo by mail and I'll explain my problem and that I changed my rear glass to see how they manage to help me.
If it's not working, I'll be trying to take apart the daughterboard where the Idfp scanner is located.
UPDATE : I just slap my phone from behind (no jokes) and it seems to re-work fine so it's kinda resolved, I think it's the ribbon connector of the scanner, if it's failing another time I will manage to reconnect it to the daugtherboard and see how it goes

That sounds like what happened to my Huawei P10. I dropped it just once and when I open the camera it's blurry. I have to give it a strong tap for it to focus properly.
Update : It's stopped working or working like 3 times on 54
Anyone knows where I can buy a new fingerprint reader ?
I checked eBay, Aliexpress and others sites but I can only find screen or others parts but not the actual fingerprint reader
I even contacted Vivo by mail but they said me that I need to get to a local service store and I can't cause I'm in France.
Your scanner could just be disconnected considering you dropped the phone a few times. If you could open up the phone you'd be able to check. I've never done it so I can't help but this video might get you started >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-lIsNoM39w

Hi Saloei, thanks for answering but I've already opened my phone and checked if the ribbon connector wasn't disconnected however it didn't change anything.. :crying: I think the problem is coming from the bga chip that manage the scanner, it might be desoldered a bit, that can explain the fact that it's working 1/5 times.
Update : I've just opened my phone another time and I've manage to take pictures of it and read the QR CODE on the chip. I've also learned that the fingerprint scanner is made by Goodix, I've contacted them but no responses.. sorry for flooding but does anyone knows to how to find it from this code (from qr 7Q7988XB03VG )
Or this picture? Thanks ?
It happened to me because I changed the dpi from 540 to 360. FP scanner works well, but everytime you restart your phone in non-default dpi the FP scanner stops working.
Solution is to
1. Restore the stock dpi
2. Restart the phone and then
3. Change the dpi according to your preference.
Repeat all this on every restart.
I'm three months late to this thread. I also have this issue with my current vivo phone which has an in display FP scanner (IQOO). It happened to me because I had disabled almost all of the bloatware apps. If you restore those apps through adb or by factory resetting the FP scanner will work again.
Thanks.

Hello Timvonlee, do you had an error of fingerprint authentification in settings?
How do I restore bloatware apps through Adb ?
I've already tried factory reset.
Thanks for answering

Hi Nexers, I have a Vivo Nex S Chinese Version (living in Europe). Unfortunately I dropped the phone back in February and my screen went black. I ordered a new screen on Taobao which then took roughly three months to get here. So I finally assembled the new display last weekend, everything works perfectly except the fingerprint reader. The reader seems to be not recognized because in the settings tab every fingerprint option is grayed out. Currently I’m troubleshooting, everything seems to be plugged in correctly. Could this be because of a link between display and fingerprint sensor (security issiue)? Does somebody has experienced something like this?
Thank you
Cheers
I just experienced the same thing.
I had my phone om yesterday, everything worked just fine.
The phone ran out of power and when I got home I plugged it in for the night. This morning the scanner did not recognize my finger, and I figured I would re add my fingerprints, but upon removing Them the option is now grayed out and I cannot add or use fingerprints.
The options menu says "Fingerprint authentication error. Restart the device or contact custommer service."
I have of course restarted the phone, and the engineering menu also says "IC not found"...
No drops or anything for me... Any ideas?
Hi guys, I haven't seen your messages until today, now I still didn't found any website that are selling these. I'm starting to lose patience and hope..

Hi guys, exactly the same problem for m'y vivo nex s... Same conditions, as Lyngze no drops, the fingerprint scanner just stoped working one day, after removing the memorised fingerprints, the option menu turns gray with same message.
Is anybody found à solution ?
I've also the same problem
I had some RSI problems with my hand so I've used my phone with my other hand for a few months.
In this period i didn't used the FP reader. When I start using my phone with my normal hand the FP reader doesn't work anymore??
I also got the message: Fingerprint authentication error. Restart the device or contact customer service
Hey guys, sorry to up my old topic, but like 2 months ago, sound from the speaker started to make weird noises and stopped working like 1 week later. Same for the vibration motor and it was a pain to charge the battery. But I noticed when I was pushing on the back cover, sound was working a bit so I took appart the back cover and started jiggling the flex connector that was between the motherboard and the daughter board. I tought that the soldering circuit inside the flex connector was faulty. So I ordered a flex connector on aliexpress, just received it this morning and put it in my phone. And guess what! Sound, vibration, charging and also THE FINGERPRINT READER worked fine !
Wow that's great!
Which one did you buy?
https://a.aliexpress.com/_BU2sS3 don't know if I can publish Ali links but it's the nex pcb fpc one and it's sold by SK Store
I just made the same mistakes as you and I have solved it.
Sorry . My English is bad. I am faulty like you and I replaced 2 cables in the phone. Is it working. It is two wires connecting the charging board to the main circuit. I think you are like that. You try to find 2 strings that and replace.
