Having a difficult time rooting NXT-L29 - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! So I've tried many different methods to root my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-L29. I've even attempted using Rayglobe's Italian Knife tool and i only got as far as installing and accessing TWRP at which i got lost because it wanted a password for something. I'm tech savvy, but not familliar with android as much as I am with Windows so i gave up on that only to wipe my phone by accident. I'd like to try again if I could get some help... Could someone list some steps for me? I got lost because Rayglobe had some very loose translations on the page for his tool. Things got complicated to the point where i was trying to figure out what I was doing on my own. If any information is required I'll post it here. I hope the kindness of strangers helps me through this. Haven't had that hard of a time since Kingo Root worked for all my other devices.
EDIT: Any steps for any root method will do. Like a root process for dummies would be pretty cool actually. I just wanna get it done cuz i have gotten pretty frustrated with this. Fastboot method, Rayglobe Knife method I don't mind either one
I love whoever takes the time to read this and whomever responds to it. Im sure if someone with the great knowhow would help more people than just me!

You need to install twrp, boot into it, go to Wipe, then format data, then type in yes. That will remove encryption on your phone. Then flash SuperSU 2.71 from here:
https://download.chainfire.eu/932/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip?retrieve_file=1
That's it, you're rooted.

can i backup and restore my crap when im done doing this?

well the root worked but now it wont boot anymore

My phone is rooted but now it gets stuck at the Huawei Logo when i boot it. The sounds cuts out and it sits there just flashing the huawei logo over and over not doing a single thing. The Rayglobe tool doesnt recognize it. What do i do now?

have u tried doing a cold reboot again?
also, try and flash the decrypted boot image found over in the original android dev section, that might help.
also, maybe try and use a different supersu version, say 2.65 or 2.67 beta

Always read each and every step carefully.

[Q] Root, Un-Root and other things("not that noob" question)

Hi, guys.
(Obs.: The really Important Text is Highlighted )
It's been the hardest 4 days of the year...
first the decision between 3 Tablets, then, i spent a lot of money on a Xoom(i do not regret!!!) and the last, Root, or not to Root, that's the question!
Well, i've been reading threads in here and out, looking for knowledge about rooting the Xoom, and from the most i was able to learn about is that it's an "easy" process, but, in other hand you do have to flash things on to the Xoom, and modify it, "internaly", not that easy like my Samsung Galaxy Ace, with the One Click...
So, it generated some questions to me.
I have some experience with Android devices, since i've got my Motorola CliqXT(Quench, in here), and had to flash another devices Android 2.1, several times.
But when it comes to Xoom, it's a bit differente; 2 reasons: 1- I spent U$700 on it; 2- It's a lot different from what i did before to root CliqXT and Ace;
So, please, excuse me if those questions are that noob.
Let's begin...
My Xoom (MZ604) is WiFi only, bought in Brazil, and came with stock 3.1 rom.(build number h.6.4-20)(Obs.: As i read, a lot of ppl was saying that for each version of the device is a different Root method, it's correct?)
1- I want to root my device, will i be able to "un-root" it, and lock it again?;
2- I tried to boot my Xoom in to Recovery Mode, but it stuck on the Moto logo, and only reboot after i pressed Volume Up + Power... no Android logo, nothing. How do i manage to Unlock it?
3- When i first rooted my ClipXT, i back upd my rom with nandroid, in case to let it to the warranty... Is there a way to make the same with the Xoom??
I want to appologize for the long and noob text, but maybe it can help other newcomers aswell.
So, after all, admins, feel free to delete/close this thread if you think it's useless or something.
And thanks for all who can help. =)

Check out this guide to set-up adb and to unlock and root your Xoom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
You can use the adb lite version contributed by Mandelbrot.benoit (about half-way down) to make it easier.
Use the Universal Xoom Root method which will work for all Xooms, as promised.
You will need an sdcard. You can format it in an android phone--that seems to work. Takeyour time, get everything set up in advance and you will do fine. The Xoom is pretty tough. Just don't do anything crazy.
Oh, and you can unroot and relock if you really want too, but you will need the correct stock images from motodev.

Thanks for answering me, man.
I had no time to come back in here, on the last weeks.
Buz trip... =)
I will try your guide, man. I now have time, and certainly need to root it, in order to put my 1 tera storage to work on this device. And, to run a C/C++ compiler on it!! =)
Thanks a lot for the help, bud.

[Q] Development for LG-LS860

I have a LG Mach (AKA Cayenne, LS860) LG Apparently algo named the LU3000 "Mach" as well for w/e reason. There is a distinct lack of ANYbody developing for this phone. I would like to take on doing it myself, but I am unclear on how to start. I managed after about a week to root the stock rom, but I can't find any recoveries for it. How should I go about this?
I understand that this is a very in depth question and for most, it would be too much to tackle. However, I have a background in C++ and Visual Basic (though I am a little rusty). Any direction would be nice and I am willing and capable of learning anything necessary to accomplish this.
Thanks!
Well this is a combination of bump / information. Since there is a lack of information regarding this phone out here, I figured I would share the method I used to root this phone. It works on the stock 4.0.4 rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
I was thinking about compiling TWRP for this phone myself, but I would like input from everyone if CWM would be a better choice? Input welcome

I just won this phone, and I'm putting the term LG MACH ROOT/LG MACH BOOTLOADER in this thread so people can find it via google.
There is pretty much no developer love for this phone...
I don't care which way you do it. Personally I prefer TWRP because of it's touch controls.

Well, it looks like its up to me and you:
Im going to compile TWRP tonight for it, and if all goes well, I will create a new thread with the rooting method and recovery explained. However, know that you will officially be person #2 to use this recovery image. All warnings and potential problems will apply.
Up for some fun?
I haven't got the phone yet actually. Briefmobile informed that I won and that sprint will ship it. I don't know anything more than that :/ I hope soon. It'd be fun to mess with the phone while my college break is going on still.
Sorry about the really slow replies. I should subscribe so that tapatalk notifies me.
I don't know when it will get here :/
But since you have it, do you know if the bootloader is unlocked/unlockable? Google is surprisingly of little use with this phone. I'd love to dink around with this phone since it's not my primary one (and I can't use cellular services on it)

All good, it takes time to develop these things anyways. I should have a stable TWRP build within a few days, and a CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2) build complete in the next couple of weeks.
The bootloader is something I am going to tackle tonight. As you can tell, there is zero documentation on the web for this device. In fact, it received more attention when it was a concept than it does now. So for now, I have no answer on the bootloader. I hope so, or all my work is useless lol. However, root is obtained at a bare minimum
Anyone out there that comes across this thread that wants to find information on modding this phone, PLEASE post your interest here. Trust me, you won't find any other resources.
lg locked bootloaders
I have the lg motion, I don't know how close it is to the mach but I've been following a thread for several months that has been trying to figure out a workaround for the locked boot loader. Google all things root guide for lg motion and you might be able to find a decent starting point for your phones maybe even help them figure out the motion
Ok, well I think, for now at least, root is all we are getting . I have managed to develop and compile ClockworkMod Recovery TeamWin Recovery, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 for it, but realized after all that work that the bootloader is not only locked, but also signed with a digitally encrypted key. Basically in laymans terms: We are ****ed. So, if anybody manages to shmooze either Sprint or LG out of these unlock codes, let me know and I'll provide everything else. Otherwise, anything I have made will brick every LS860 it goes on. Sorry guys.
Oh boy is like Motorola all over again... So no flashing recoveries even?

Thats correct. At least from my understanding. I could be wrong, but without the ability to unlock the bootloader i dont want to try flashing recovery. Too risky for me. Ill give anyone who wants to try my twrp build but i wont accept any repercussion for it doing anythin negative
Give me your twrp build then
I just rooted it. Was super easy.
Tried adb reboot bootloader. Did nothing. Tried adb reboot recovery. Recovered the device. Can't seem to figure out a way to have it download software. (like nvflash) Wonder if there's a special cable...

So I already bricked two, lol. Not going for a third. I really wanna root this phone. I went as far as getting the firmware which is a cab file. But then I guess you have to convert that to a kdz file. Then decrypt the kdz file. Well it appears you need to be an LG Service tech to use the program. Was hoping there was work around for all this,

I rooted it, it was easy using the sony tool that does the adb backup remount bug, but that's as far as I got. I uninstalled a bunch of crap off of the system partition and its a lot faster now, too bad I can't get that activation screen to go away.
Just pulled the newest OTA. I found it in /cache. I tried to get the URL but instead I made it so it no longer sees there's an update... I have the zip file however, and inside of it there is patches to just about everything in system, and updates to magazines, chrome, and LGBookmarksProvider.
There's also a command to install a recovery image:
#!/system/bin/sh
/sbin/write_recovery /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Not sure if it's a good idea to flash that... forgot that it's still locked bootloader
EDIT: Finally figured out download mode... I just held all the buttons down when starting it and voila, it's there. I also hear you can use the LG Software update tool to flash back to stock, so we might finally have root that's safe
Does anyone have the BooksTablet.apk found in /system/app? I'm not sure why but it won't install the update cause the sha1 of that file fails I don't know where to find it.
Dont let this thread die! I noticed there was no dedicated forum for the LS860 development, I really enjoy this phone and would love some level of development for it. I can help as much as I am able.

Can someone rip me their BooksTablet.apk and BooksTablet.odex from their LS860 and PM me a link to it? I really am pissed off at the update prompt (I'm not sure why it's not working, I haven't touched it and I made sure I backed everything up... It won't validate BooksTablet.apk) I'm on the stock original version of the software ZV6 or something... not the ZV7.
I really don't want to go into sprint that much, though I might have to do that soon.
Edit: Just called sprint. They won't do anything for me and I'm not going to pay money for someone to reflash my phone. It's pretty ridiculous how factory images for devices aren't released. You know how many issues this would solve? That's why nexus devices are great. They're practically unbrickable.
Hey guys, try posting the mach in here so maybe it can get a forum for it.... And possibly some development.

Hi, \How the heck do you root a Zte avid plus Z828?

How do you root a z828 zte avid plus phone metro pcs?????
It's different than the Avid 4G. You can still get into the FTM, but I'm guessing either the script or the security is different. Mine is on Android 5.1.1 MetroPCS and I've been searching everywhere to no avail. Some help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. :cyclops:
Also desperately looking for a way to root the device. I bought it as a cheap replacement when my last phone was broken, and so far I've enjoyed the phone. This is one major pitfall, though. Ive tried plenty of rooting apps and methods, and I'm willing to test and play with more. Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm offering any assistance I can. Let's find a way to crack this thing.
hi you guys i bought the avid plus from somebody yesterday for $50 and it turned out that the phone is messed up bad it wont boot and when it does it just turns off and its hard to get to go back on, is there anyway you guys can send me a copy of a backup of your phone system files, ive been looking everywhere online for countless hours for any kind of stock file and theres none at all so please i beg you send me a link or email me a few of the main required files please my email is [email protected] thank you so much for helping

ZTE Open allows you to reinstall and recover all your system files, but you need a PC and the software/directions. Google "ZTE open" z828 and you should be able to find the info you need. :cyclops:

not yet......kingroot has a request form when you download it on your phone. As of now, there is about 5000 requests and was last seen at queue list 342 and it increase every day. my guesstimate is maybe by the end of July there will be a root program
End of July for sneaky Chinese info-thief rooting... Should be at about Android 9.2 by then. Never again owning a ZTE unless is a time machine and/ or comes with a Gremlin.

I don't know how successful you can be but if you go to kingoroot.com and try you may have a chance.
Here is what I did, first I downloaded the program for the pc, then attempted to root the device. When it failed, I saved the log and emailed them. After about a week I tried again. By this time I was fooling around with the cable, restarting phone, unplugging the cable and constantly restarted the kingoroot app, then finally after an hour of doing this the root worked!!!
Give it a shot, it may be worth it!!!
I have the same problem too, the reason why many rooting apps failed because the Z828 is not yet rootable. But don't worry, it will be in the future.. just don't know when.

Can't use it for anything.
I got boot up and running!
Step 1: DOWNLOAD
ADB Drivers - http://adbdriver.com/
ADB Shell (guide and download) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118
kingo root - https://www.kingoapp.com/android-root/download.htm
Step 2: Command Prompt with ADB
run the CMD with admistrator privileges and use the following commands -
adb devices
[hit enter]
adb reboot disemmcwp
[Your device will now reboot with some extra write permissions]
install and run KINGO ROOT! (Yes, it's kingO root, not King) on your pc.
SHAABAAMMMM!!!!
Now we need a custom recovery for it!
PS: o/! Dont try link2sd , because it #$&*#&(*@^*$ your apks, and you can't find it in the 2nd partition.
it says that the device is offline what do i do?
It does work as stated above. Nice job, I've been trying to do this for a while now. I didnt know there was a command to make the phone reboot with more permissions. Very nice!
Seems to not work for me. I get it to connect and everything, but KingoRoot fails to keep going or it finishes at 100% and tells me that it failed to install Root.
Nevermind, I had to reboot my PC.
I'm not sure this is a true root. And how do I remove kingosu and replace with SuperSU? Super sume did not work as kingosu refused to give it a permission.
Yeah its a false root. Had to wipe and factory reset.
okay. upon third try it rooted! and even root explore r/w worked!
however i deleted the metro apps and tried to install supersu because i hear nasty comms going on between kingouser and chinra.
well i'm bricked now. lol.
wont boot past powered by android splash. possibly because i deleted the MYMETRO folder in system/app.
zte and metro dont provide the update.zip so i cant recover.
any ideas? and dont tell me go to metro because they wont help.
Same problem now bricked can only open recovery

How to root after updating to 6.0 OTA (6045O)

I recently updated to marshmallow, and am currently trying everything to root it. I have done everything from trying to unlock bootloader in fastboot, to using apps such as kingroot and framaroot.... to no avail... can anyone help? It would be much appreciated!! Thanks!!!
I know you can't really do anything using MM, but can anyone help me flash stock firmware on my device? (I AM USING LINUX!!) I tried running the windows programs with wine.... Did not work...
Dropped my previous 6045O, Cricket variant on its screen on a bunch of gravel and cracked the screen. Since I am a klutz, I had taken out the insurance/phone replacement with Asurion. Received my replacement, and discovered it was loaded with MM, only, as others have noted, the fastboot commands are not there....
I've tried all the methods folks have offered, and, apparently Cricket is in collusion with Alcatel not to make it merely difficult to root and administer (worked entirely too many tech-support gigs... the uninformed tend to screw things up even with documentation), but to make it, seemingly at present, impossible. I'm stuck, and none of the previous methods have worked. (and, yes, I've read every applicable thread I see... at this point, nothing seems to work to root the beast. Since the ability's there by default to shove the apps that will allow themselves to be shoved to my 32GB SD.... that gets rid of my need for Link2SD, until the gentleman, Bulent Akpinar, gets around to recognizing that Marshmallow's been out a while. (paid for the Plus, and completely unusable, even as a widget, with the new Cricket variant of 6.0.1
I've tried the ROOT .rar, our other gentleman's Suite, and the various methods, and at this point, I'm just kinda lost.

Nobody searches the forums anymore ,it has been discussed in depth in many threads, you need to downgrade using eluga switch firmware to get back unlocked bootloader n fastboot, then install TWRP and then you can pick whatever rom you like... If you want stock MM with TWRP use the marionettes v1 MM rom, you loose LTE after using Eluga so you need to fix that also I have posted this link several times read all the threads attached and you will get there

Actually I did search before posting my comment, and I have the Eluga executable... after expanding it and trying to do the deed, it doesn't see the phone... I've got the OEM unlocking enabled in the Dev. options on my device...
I admit, though, I may not be doing something correctly, and will try it again.
--- edit ---
Silly me... didn't remember I had to have the phone off... for that matter, since it was a while ago that I rooted the previous one, and that it was running Lollipop 5.0.2, I didn't have to jump through as many hoops as with 6.0.1... Alcatel and Cricket don't make it impossible to do with this phone, as Cricket seems to specify with the ZTE device, and the LG Stylo... Just difficult, but not impossible. Working on it as we speak, and will respond in a bit.
BTW... was a little snarky that no one reads the columns... I obviously missed a few things, but I have read... just sayin'...

Actually I did search before posting my comment, and I have the Eluga executable... after expanding it and trying to do the deed, it doesn't see the phone... I've got the OEM unlocking enabled in the Dev. options on my device...
I admit, though, I may not be doing something correctly, and will try it again.

Is the phone off? You must have phone off so it can go into download mode.

Been referring to Alek Dev's (and others') instructions, have booted into the Panasonic rom, in the process of erasing, and will flash the rest going forward.
Thanks for the links, and I admit a "Doh!" about how to go into download mode... a few devices I'm kinda maintaining around here, and each seems to have a different button process to get there.
Thanks again, and I think I've got it from this point (with multiple tabs up in my browser for reference, of course...)

No need to downgrade to LP, use Alcatel Flasher to flash twrp
Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/development/tool-sahara-firehose-test-alcatel-t3454855
install twrp and roo with supersu.zip. That all.

Isn't that still in beta status as test only? The dev has discontinued development?? I have never tried it as I believed it was just still conceptual... I will look into it further..... Was flashing ever implemented??

No, it's not a test, it work. You can read/write boot and recovery on 6039, 6045 and 6055 for all variants
Look at new howto made by decker.su: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/help/howto-idol-4-6055-installing-twrp-t3486077
You Just have to choose "6045" in the app and twrp recovery for 6045
I used the Panasonic eluga software lol.... That program didn't work for me at all...

running nougat va20. tried every root/custom recovery method i could find.

so like the title states, i'm trying to flash twrp and get root. i've tried idk how many different methods and i'm hitting a brick wall. bootloader is unlocked, recowvery is giving me an error before closing itself, not doing anything. verified device is recognized by adb.
also tried flashing recovery using flashboot, but obviously that doesn't work on a20. i'm open to suggestions as i would really like to have a custom recovery
i could flash a rooted .kdz/.tot but i have yet to find one that is a20 or higher.

Sorry, to hear that it didn't work for you. In my experience, this has to be related to not following the instructions to the point. I was also stuck myself initially, only to find out later that I missed something in the instruction. Give us more detail, otherwise no one can help you. Which firmware version are you on? Which method are you trying? Is it an automated script or manual. IMO, the manual method works best, and easier to troubleshoot.

Didn't really understand your question! What seems to be the issue?
for anyone having trouble rooting 20a, i tried this guide and FINALLY have my phone running twrp and root working fine.

If this worked, good for you.
But I don't think it should work. Last time I checked, the very fastboot flash command is disabled in LG G5. Recowvery is supposed to be the only way.
BTW, I don't trust root and unlock methods outside of xda. There are lots of clickbait articles, which has the potential to brick your device.

THIS!!!!
Other root methods and apps that root and all that stuff are just BEGGING for your phone to be destroyed. I used a KingRoot solution once on an old phone that no XDA certified method still worked on....it rooted it just fine. But all the added junk it installed as system files with highly restrictive permissions that made them impossible to remove essentially made the device unusable. This was an old phone I was just using for an experiment anyway so no loss. But it illustrates why any root methods not found on XDA are highly risky.
I mean, sometimes a questionable root method gets posted on XDA too. But it's usually debunked as a bad idea within a day or two. (Sometimes within an hour) So you can read about real world experience with that method on a specific device and know if you should avoid it or not.
And there are other Android developer sites like XDA that can give good root options and solutions, as well as good advice for a phone in general. I'm not suggesting that anything outside of XDA is crap. If you find a good root solution on another website that has a reputable history and you trust it, great.! But never google "Root my phone" and try the first option that pops up on some sketchy Chinese / Russian / Martian website.
Were you on updated nougat version and rolled back to v20a using lgup?
