Idol 3 4.7 MicroSD card size above 32 gig work? - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sorry if this has been previously addressed but I'm really curious if the 4.7 inch model can allow MicroSD cards above 32 gigs. I've had 64 gig cards work in many other phones that claimed 32 gigs was the maximum. Thanks!

Hi
I have a 6039Y with a 64 gb micro-sd, it works, no problem !

I have the 5.5 and I use the new SanDisk microSD 200 GB. As long as it's formatted in FAT32, it works (I was using the Lexar 128 GB USB 3.0 before).
To format these bigger cards in FAT32, you need a little program on Windows called MiniAide Fat32 Formatter http://www.fat-32-formatter.com/miniaide-fat32-formatter-home.html

Awesome thanks!

Problem with 1GB SD Card

My multi card reader (18 in 1, 3 USB hub) can't read 1GB Kingmax platinum 60x SD card properly. It was kind of on and off, 1 out of 40 times the card can be read !!! I tried a different memory stick 256MB and it worked fine straight away. Done some research on the Internet and found out that some "cheap" (got mine on Ebay for 10 quid - brandnew though) readers have problem with higher capacity card and won't read 1GB upwards. Is this true? And if so can you recommend a reader that can actually read 1GB SD card. I'm having my eyes on the Belkin 15 in 1 one.
Thanks.
I've got a card reader that won't work with XD cards larger tha 256 meg, but has no problem with 512 meg SD cards. So it's certainly possible. Don't know why though.
I suugest you ask Belkin before buying another.
FYI:
I have the cheapest USB Card Reader ever!
It costs 6 USD and works flawlessly on my 1 GB 60X Pretec SD...
I use a cheapy card reader on my 1Gb Sandisk SD, 1Gb Lexar SD and 512Mb Sandisk MS Pro Duo without problem. Maybe a faulty reader??

What's the highest capacity of MicroSD supported in the Captivate?

One of my friends is going to buy a Droid X and Verizon is offering a 32GB MicroSD for $100 with the purchase of a Droid X. My friend already has a 16GB MicroSd and does not want to spend any more money. He offered to get me the 32GB MicroSD from Verizon if I gave him the money. Does anyone know what's the highest capacity MicroSD supported in the Captivate? Everywhere I read it says "up to 32GB" supported which I "assume" includes the integrated 16GB.
its 32gb. it what most of all new phones capacity. it means whooping 48gb that we can have in samsung captivate. now thats alot of memory.

Could you please point me to a link where I can verify this information. I hate to waste $100. 48GB sound great, but I want to be completely sure.
I dont think you can use a 32gb. Everywhere ive read it says 16gb max is what is supported.
I think because the internal memory is actually an SD card itself, and the max sdhc standard can handle is 32. So 16 internal and 16 microsd = 32 -> full

Look under "SD card and phone storage" and it clearly has an "internal SD card" as well as external
which is why i mentioned the above
pdadb.net says "microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash
Supports High Capacity (SD 2.0/HC) memory cards with capacity of up to 32GB"
they could be wrong though. id get a 16 just in case. the proce on the 32 is retarded high for now.
I have a 32GB SanDisk card in my Captivate.
I bought it yesterday from Verizon's website for $99 including free next day shipping.
The captivate fully supports the SDHC format, thus it supports adding cards up to 32 gigs. Should be the same for any SDHC compliant device. The only exception to this are a hand-full of devices that support 4gig and smaller SDHC cards via ugly hacks.
On a side note, it's redundant to say " supports SDHC up to 32 gigs", since there will never be a SDHC card >32 gigs, but that's advertising for you

I have a 32 gb card now, and the internal of 16. Both show up at their correct capacities, and when I fill them all the data is accessible.
Ah, it's too bad that ALL the prerelease materials state the maximum SD size as 16 GB. I would have purchased a 32 gig if I had known.

its 32gb
(too short )
All Galaxy S devices can support external SD cards up to 32gb, that is excluding the internal storage. I have a 32gb card in mine, which I will never ever fill up.
Samsung's site, FYI, currently specifies 32GB support for the microSD card slot:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I897ZKAATT-features
If you got $200 to spare you can buy a 64gb sdxc card and see if it works. I personally don't need that much space, but i can use that much money
The only time it wasnt recommended to use a 32G was with a MiUi rom but
i think that issue is fixed anyway
SDXC in captivate
The temptation of 80gb on my phone was too great- I caved and bought a 64gb SDXC card from sandisk for 80 bucks. I dumped a few videos from my desktop onto the card to test it out, and got a damaged sd card message, prompting to format it. I clicked okay, forgetting that the ICS build I'm using formats internal SD instead of external SD. So that hurt.
Next I tried a nook color using CM7. Got the same damaged sd card, but it was able to format it. I got a reboot as it attempted to re-mount it following the format, but following the reboot, it was usable. It played video and showed up as 59.6GB or something close. This newly android-formatted card wouldn't work in when stuck back in the captivate, however. It's possible that it will work on a different rom- one that's able to format it itself, but after losing the internal SD, I'm going to hold off on messing around with an old GB rom.

Best MircoSD Card

I have a simple question. What is the Micro SD card with the best read and write speed? I would like a 16 or 32GB Micro SD Card for my HTC EVO 3D.
search for class 10 on google. it's has the highest read/write speed.
Sandisk
The faster and more memory the better, I usually stick to main brands so you know your not getting ripped of. But my sandisk micro sd works perfect.
You can buy the samsung 16 Gb class 10 microsd.
I use it with s2e, and its very fast.
And for under 20 euros (i think, atleast on amazon), its kind of cheap.

I can only recommend this card: Samsung MB-SSBGA Class 10 Essential SDHC
Thank you guys.
Best SD card
I prefer SanDisk for quality and Kingston (is cheaper €2-3 -at least in my country).
I am using Kingston and no problem. For sure SDHC and not less than Class 10 :]
Quite funny: I have a 8 GB and a 16 GB Sandisk MicroSD card. The 8 GB card works in my ZTE Blade as well as in my X10 Mini Pro. Although the Mini Pro is said to be compatible with MicroSD cards up to 16 GB, it refuses to work together with the 16 GB card but serves well in the Blade!

Sensation - microSDHC Card Benchmarks

I think it's time we have some type of database of benchmarks for microSDHC cards on our Sensations. Sure... it's easy to find some online for certain cards but some people put them in adapters, USB 3.0 readers, different phones, etc. This list will hopefully be specific for our Sensations.

SD Tools (Android)

Use your Sensation as the testing drive
Please don't use a uSD to SD adapter or anything like that. If we keep this the same with everyone, we can better compare cards

Sensation Android version (ie. ICS 4.0.3, etc)
Benchmarks as of 4/19/2012
Alright, I'll get this started.
I used the Sensation to format the card and WinXP x32 (will try on Win7 x64 if there's a difference).

I'll enter this soon, but it appears that the older 8GB microsdhc cards are pretty quick. It's that they began to slow down as they became larger. It would be interesting to see how 16gb and other 32gb cards do.
It also appears that the smaller cluster sizes benchmarked better than the larger cluster sizes... i'm not sure what's the benefit of larger cluster sizes then...
Only thing that kinda troubles me is the big discrepancy between testing the Samsung 32GB class 10 32k microsdhc on WinXPx32 and Win7x64. Not sure why this is the case.

Samsung 32GB Class10 16k @ 14% Full [CDM]
Samsung 32GB Class10 16k @ 14% Full [SD Tools]
ymirsson, I think that tweak is good for SD Tools and general Android things. ARHD is set at 1024. I'm not certain how much this would mask an insufficient card at something like recording 40 mbps video. You should check to see what AOKP b29 has it set at.
CDM can test the card pre-tweaks.
Found an "old" Samsung 16GB C4 at home. Fresh formatted at 16k.
SD Tools averaged at 4.2 write, 18.8 read.
No CDM Tests, because there's no OSX version ^^
Tried the mentioned trick, but thats bogus. Doesn't change anything at all

Sandisk class 4 can benmark? how to use
Guys I got the stock one, and with sd tools it shows 4.6 on write and 24.7 in read mode.. is it enough?
or should i buy a new sd?
i don't know my sd brand sorry sd tolls doesn't show me the brand!
thank
Lollaz
Edit : ure right , sorry :-D, it is normal Samsung 16 Gb @ class 4
Now worries. The manufacturer should be printed on the card itself... just make sure to update your post the next time you open it up
Any idea on how full your card is? the amount of free space definitely effects speeds.
4.6 write... you should be able to record video at 20 mbps with the camera mod but it will probably stutter if you tried the ultra camera mod (40 mbps)
Thanks for answer :-D Big problem was i never never never turn off my mobile, didnt know about the brand!
Well the usage is 14 Gb free space..
After reading this thread i'm Now buyn a new sd, Samsung 16 Gb class 10 with yellow Tag, as i can read on Samsung website is a new sd one, Hope is ok like i saw on ur bench
In an italian website they are selling this Kind of sd @ half Price!
Is it Worth?

From what I understand the international dual SIM model will have 32GB on board, and no expandable storage option.
I stuck a 32GB SD card in mines and I am good to go. 10 class for $10.99 from SanDisk so no complaints over here.

yeah, it's pretty vanilla, actually.
Compared to, say, the Galaxy S5:
http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-s5-rom-bit-monster-taking-nearly-8gb-storage
And 16gb is more than enough with SD cards being so cheap now.
About 3 years ago, I went into the ocean w/ my phone in my pocket for ~45 minutes (like an idiot), and of course the phone was toast, but the data on the micro SD was unscathed; in fact, I'm still using that card.
That's normal. I would think people would realize this by now. With my Samsung Skyrocket I had 11GB free so it varies slightly depending on the size of the OS ROM. But who cares. I picked up a 128GB Micro SD for $70 on Amazon. Damn I have tons of space now.
What is end user memory on this phone.
