[PSA] Corrupt SD Card Issue On Some Roms - X Style (Pure) General

Okay so I have been noticing many people on each and every rom thread that they are experiencing a corrupt SD card issue. The problem occurs when adoptable storage is not enabled. Many people here seem to not want to jump to adoptable storage but there is no reason not to if you keep it inside your phone.... If you would like to never experience the "Corrupt SD" issue ever again and keep all your files (full twrp support) then follow these steps
Rom with corrupt sd issue:
1. Boot twrp
2. Copy all files from sd card to computer via USB.
3. Boot rom and format sdcard make sure it is adopt able storage or it might recorupt
4. Boot twrp
5. Move all files from computer to sd card via USB
6. Boot Rom and enjoy all your files
Rom without "Corrupt SD" issue:
1. Copy all files from phone to computer via USB while in Tom
2. Format as adobtable
3. Boot twrp
4. Move all files from computer to sdcard
Freedom to install any rom
You NEVER need to format one of those SD Cards again

"There is no reason not to if you keep it inside your phone.".... Are you sure? What if I need to reflash a rom or change rom? I'll need a full wipe, losing photo's camera an other files. I like the adoptable storage, but for reasons like that I had to use my memory as external.

No you won't you don't need to wipe the sd card with Rom changes/reflashes! It's 100% twrp compatible

usually to remove petitions on any sort of storage device, you will have to reformat the data from the petition. so just make a copy of all the files and reformat it

Ok I will try that. Should I reformat with using the phone or the computer?
assuming you have a custom recovery installed (like clockworkmod), you can re-partition your SD card from there quite easily.

I do but how do I re-partition it so that I have all my memory back on my sdcard. Also but I don't need to have it partition in order for me to be able to install roms and such do I?

Hi,
Use a card reader, and open it on your pc/laptop.
Use Control + A , Control + C .
This will copy all your files folders and hidden files, and paste them into a new folder on your desktop.
Go online and get "G-Parted Live" (google it).
Use this to delete partitions and format your sd card, then put everything back on it.

Stuck during root (can't see SuperSU.zip)

So...I've been following Shabby's thread in the dev forum, but can't post there yet due to being new. Everything works fine to the point where he says to flash the SuperSU zip from recovery.
Basically, there's nothing seen on the SD card in recovery mode. I've verified the file is there from the Terminal in normal mode, and the permissions are a mix of 777 and 755 in there. Only the DCIM and bug2go directories appear in recovery. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies. I am a happy lady with this phone but want to finish the root job!

Wow, I was not expecting you to answer personally
Er...it's a 16GB microSD card i purchased and put into the SD slot. I suppose that makes it external...? At any rate I know the recovery flash is looking at it because I see the same directory structure in Android's terminal at /sdcard/, just almost nothing in it shows up in recovery.

I think there is a selection somewhere that you can tell it what to see as the SDCard, internal or external. Read it somewhere. Or maybe that doesn't apply here, just trying to help
If you downloaded it with your phone it is saved in a folder on the internal storage, use the files app to copy it to external 1, which is ur sd card. Cwm doesn't see internal storage, everything is saved to and pulled from the sd card when in recovery.

It's probably my only real complaint about this phone. Internal storage showing up as /sdcard is just stupid, but I understand why they did it.
I hit this bug while rooting mom's phone. I grabbed the microSD from my tablet and it worked great

Think I found it in data/media, that what u were lookin for? Guess that makes sense, a data wipe clears it.

whoa what?!
a factory reset wipes out internal storage?
does it do it on stock or just cwm?
and yes i need to know a bit more info if it is /data/media as its home
Haven't done a stock reset yet, workin on figuring out how to. Confirm wipe data/ factory reset in cwm wipes the internal sd.
There is a shortcut in the root of system dir, as well as in /mnt, to sd card (internal). Both have the sd icon next to them, data/media location shows as a folder. Idk what all you want on this, lemme know what I can get for you. I will figure out how to stock reset to confirm.

internal storage isnt internal sdcard. that is talking about /data
either way since i cant find what partition internal sdcard is i made the unnecessary changes to cwm source ill be building a newer build tomorrow

wasnt a waste i got internal sd mapped now, a factory reset will wipe all teh stuff listed above, however it very well could have been wiping the internal sdcard. so if that was teh case its cuz of you it was avoided

Will erasing Internal Storage in TWRP give me any issues with flashing?

I might have to do this because my files are everywhere, and possibly to have a clean start. I'm backing things up, but if I wipe internal storage, will it give me an issue if I try to flash a rom and gapps?
I believe this will delete your recovery too so you will have to push your recovery back on to your phone using adb.

If you wipe data in twrp it wipes the internal card now.
Learned this the hard way that they fixed it. Thankfully I don't keep anything important on their and keep it on my external card.

Yes, you can side load a ROM that's downloaded on your PC, or you can push a ROM to your internal storage with ADB. There's definitely a few guides on how to do it in this forum.

Yeah. Wiping and formatting your /system or any internal directories is lovely for a fresh and stable start... just need to have a ROM on your eternal SD card, haha. I've done this several time, forgetting about having a ROM to flash afterwards. LOL.
Just get an external card, have the ROM and flash it from there. Makes everything way easier!

How do you flash a phone without SD card?

I have been using Samsung Android all my life, if I buy the OnePlus One phone, how will I flash the phone with new ROM since I can't just simply put the .zip file onto external SD card and flash through recovery.
Use adb to push to the internal sd or sideload it from recovery.

No, you aren't. You don't need to wipe internal memory, only /system, /data, /cache and dalvik partitions.
So wait...
You're saying that everytime you flashed a rom you cleaned out your entire phone beforehand?

im pretty sure no rom would make you wipe your internal storage. theres no reason to ever do that.
Most recovery like twrp, cwm etc doesn't wipe your internal memory when you say factory reset. Before flashing new rom most developers prefer you factory reset which wipes your system, data partitions but nothing happens to your internal memory. So you are good.

Your Galaxy Note 2 can flash ROMs like this in the same way. Even if you use Factory Reset/Wipe Data in your recovery, it still wouldn't wipe your Note 2's internal storage. It will wipe /data (but you'll notice it'll say 'wiping /data without wiping /data/media'.
It's been this way for a long, long time.

Nope. Any package that tells you to wipe /sdcard is from someone who has no clue what they're doing.
On devices with unified storage, it is slightly more complex - in rare cases the filesystem can get corrupted in such a way that requires complete format. This will clobber /sdcard on devices with unified storage (/sdcard is /data/media remapped) - but a normal wipe data/factory reset in recovery on a unified device will remove everything *except* /data/media on /data
Again, it's *very rare* that you need to fully format /data on a device with unified storage - I've only had to do it twice in my life, both times on a Moto G because f2fs sucks rancid donkey balls for data integrity.

The only reviews I've found are from Android Authority and Engadget, both with the 16gb white model, and neither say a microSD card slot is there. Engadget says there isn't one, and AA pulls the cover off to show the internals - and if there was a slot, surely they would have noticed, right?
OTOH, these seem to be "pre-production" units, with software that still needs some bug fixes. So who knows what's really in store?

Sorry guys, but there's no SD slot. Mounting data through something like a Meenova works though.
Also, it's worth noting that when you switch to a newer device, you can't mount storage to USB from recovery like you were once able to.
If you don't want to use sideload or adb push, you'll want to put the ROM on your storage using a working ROM first, so that's why you should always have a working ROM zip on your storage at any given time, because if you start bootlooping when you're away from a computer, you're stuck until you can get back to one.

Oh, I'd believe it. But if you don't have one or if you forget, you're still screwed. Nothing beats a fully on-device solution

[HELP] SD Card Issue

Hello, I have a Samsung J2 2016
I'm having problems with my SD card. I had enabled adoptable storage on my phone before but I had to factory reset my phone because of Viper for Android causing some issues. After the reset I have been trying for a month to use Root Essentials to get my phone to have Adopted storage again but it just fails in the end even though I have flashed the AS plugin zip four times now.
So I just got rid of the adoptable storage and decided that I would shift apps to the portable sd card normally.
Everything worked fine until now. Now when my battery goes below 30% the SD Card stops working and the entire system crashes and reboots. After the reboot it says thar the sd card is unsupported and I'll have to format it. I dont want to format it as it has apps like Snapchat which will require login again which will require me to unroot my phone. The only way to fix it temporarily is to remove the SD Card from the phone during reboot and after it finishes and the phone opens up, put it back in.
I am not sure if formatting the sd card will do any good. I guess the adoptable storage mod by root essentials has something to do with this
Can somebody help me with a permanent fix? I am hoping I won't have to factory reset my phone again
Thank you! And sorry for the long post

It shouldn't wipe internal when flashing with Odin unless what you flash upgrades/downgrades your bootloader. If what you flash is the same as what you had then it doesn't upgrade/downgrade the bootloader, leaving data untouched.
Factory reset in stock recovery should wipe internal though, did it not do that?

If your device has marshmallow then you shouldn't need a mod to use adoptable storage, it's a built in feature for marshmallow, you should be able to set up adoptable storage in system settings.
