Notifications when playing a video or listening music paused - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi all,
In my last experience with S5 I didn't have this issue. And I think is annoying because I can't watch a video normally which means every time a whatsapp notification comes the video enters in pause mode for a while. Is there any special configuration to avoid this? Actually I'm using this app "Don't Pause!" but as I mentioned this is not a normal behavior. In the past I didn't need an extra app to handle this.
Thanks in advance.

Any idea? In addition to this concers, this happens when no headphones, just speaker

Did you get a solution? Im having the exact same problem.

Have you tried not to disturb

Yes I have tried DND mode and incredibly it still does not work. I managed to find sort of a solution. I disabled pop up notifications, so now whenever I get a messagw the phone still vibrates, but it doesnt show on screen and video isnt paused. I didnt have this problem at all on my S6, I dont know why it happens on S7 though.

[Q] Anybody using Spotify? Notifications question

I use Spotify for music on my M8, and while I've searched all over for a solution I just can't figure this out. When I receive a notification, the music pauses indefinitely. Only when I clear the notification does the music resume. This is contrary to every other Android device I've ever owned, where putting the device on silent or vibrate would stop the music from pausing at all. I've never had one that didn't resume a second or two later.
So, does anybody have any advice for me on this? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, I gave that a shot but nothing. I did realize though that it only happens on Bluetooth, not with headphones attached. I'm all out of ideas.

There is a setting or option somewhere (cant think of exactly where atm) that disallows apps to read notifications. Try disabling that if you can find it. Sounds like notifications are stealing the audio focus from spotify

Thanks again for trying to help. I know exactly what you're talking about, but I can't find it on the stock ROM either. Either HTC must have removed the ability to do that, or Google did in 4.4.2. Anyway, thanks again. I guess I'll just cross my fingers that they've fixed it in the new version of Spotify that is supposed to come out soon.

That was removed by Google in 4.4.2, was it not?
Download it from play store and turn notification off for that app. Works perfect!

[Q] 'Do not disturb' setting turns on in the middle of the night randomly

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to stop it?
The schedule function is off, so it can't be that. I've enabled the exception for alarms within it since this keeps happening, but could be dangerous for some people if it does enable on its own like this.

Yeah I get this too. Looks like it's enforcing the schedule to me, despite it not being enabled. Really annoying

I figured out it was automateit, the app. I had it set to turn the phone down to silent at a certain time of night, but apparently this option enables do not disturb mode on this phone instead of just silencing it. Just poor handling, can't blame the app though, phone is still very new.

I'm having the same problem but its also happening in the middle of the day. I've tried to schedule when its to turn on/off but this has not helped.
"Do not disturb" setting turns on randomly
Same problem. Any advice appreciated. For the moment I've gutted the DND setting by telling the phone to let calls, texts, and emails through when in DND mode.
Are you sure its not some app you have installed on the phone?
JuiceDefender for example does this for me, even when do not disturb is turned off in the main settings.

Thanks. Yes, it's an app, though I don't yet know which one. Restarted in Safe Mode and issue went away.
Do not disturb coming on by its self .
I had the same problem on my Samsung J7 .
What I did to solve that problem was I uninstalled all my apps and reinstalled them one by one and watched which one was giving me problems .....And the app TrackR was my problem now I have no problem with my do not disturb ...The app TrackR seems to have a bug .
Happens w the S8+ too
I have tried and tired to figure this out. I am missing important texts because my DND is turning on in the middle of the day randomly despite turning it off. Any ideas?
I bought a Samsung S8, and immediately started having this problem. It stumped me for a while, until I found this thread. I had installed Tasker and imported the settings from my old phone. It turns out that the action to turn on silent mode was turning on Do Not Disturb instead. The actions that used to say Silent Mode "On" now said "Mode 2". I tested it out and, sure enough, it went to Do Not Disturb. For some reason, "On" no longer appears in the pull down box for silent mode; only "Off" and "Vibrate". For now, I'll switch all the broken actions to say "Vibrate".

[Q] Newbie help with sound issue

Hi everyone, and thanks in advance if you can help. I need my phone to be silent during daytime meetings and at night. I've installed an app which should take care of this. However I still get sound notifications. I'm assuming it's the "interruptions" feature over riding the app as I see the star icon displayed. Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's really annoying me. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Hit the volume button one so the sounds mode dialogue pops up onto your screen. You'll see three options, All, Priority, and None. Select None.

Hello Heisenberg and thank you for getting back to me. I've seen the option you describe, but I wanted something that would work with my calendar and automatically mute during events - plus at night time and then revert back to normal. Every time the app I'm using modifies the sound profiles, the star icon appears and lets notifications through. I think I'd prefer to disable "interruptions" and use the app full time as it's far more efficient and versatile. Do you know if it's possible? Sadly, I can't find a way to make the phone work in the way I want it to - do you have any other thoughts please?

I don't understand why you need an app. I just use profiles and adjust the sound mode manually, it's easy enough.

Ah - I tried that and couldn't find a way to make it happen using my location, an app will do it all automatically during the day based on my calendar and also at night. Am I missing something here?? Forgive me if I sound dim but I'm getting very fed up having to constantly mess around with the phone settings because it seems to override the app settings. What happened to "quiet hours"??

Youtube A-V sync

Sound plays before the video. Uninstalled Youtube updates, no help. Anyone fixed this one?
Anyone else having sync trouble with YouTube, or is it just me?
No I do not. Curious are you listening through some type of bluetooth device? I use to have that problem when watching videos in my F-150 over the speakers.
I also have that problem.

I usually watch YouTube using the external speaker. Just tried some headphones, same problem. To my ears, it starts off wrong and stays wrong, it doesn't seem to drift.
Finally got around to creating a thread on the Lenovo site: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Android-based-Tablets-and/Youtube-A-V-sync-problem-on-the-Phab2-Pro-PB2-690Y/td-p/3506026
I am having the same issue
One thing I've been curious about is whether all video playback is affected or if it's just YouTube.
Played some trailers on Rotten Tomatoes and they looked good to me, can anyone confirm? I could have just missed it, movie trailers don't seem to show much speaking.
Also played a couple free videos on Play Movies & TV and the sync problem was there. I think we can add that app to the problem list. Can anyone confirm on that one too?
Dolby app
Could someone try this. I did a force stop on the Dolby app and played a YouTube video. I think it's a lot better with the audio and video sync. It may just be me.

You are right that turning off the Dolby service does fix the slight sync issue on YouTube. I simply turned off the service from the tray pulldown without force stopping the app and it worked right away. Anyone else can confirm this?

How are you turning off Dolby?
On my phone, clicking on the app causes immediate crash & selecting it in Settings > Apps doesn't allow either "Uninstall" or "Disable".

Pull down from the top of the screen which will show your notifications window, then pull down from the top of the screen again to see the quick toggles, which will have a toggle button for DOLBY.

Yeah, got the button, but it doesn't "click". Even going into Settings > Developer Options > Inactive apps, toggling Dolby doesn't do anything, doesn't deactivate like every other app.

Try running the Dolby app (in the app drawer), and clicking the round power button at the top left, maybe that will turn it off for you? Works here anyhow. On mine, if I'm playing sounds with Dolby Atmos enabled, it shows a frequency analysis, but with it off, it doesn't, so that might be helpful in determining if it worked.
I'm not sure what happened, but the sync problem is back for me, even with Dolby off. Tried rebooting, no luck.

Agreed. It did work perfectly for a while, but for an unknown reason it went back to not working pretty quickly. I need to figure out how to log back in on the Lenovo forums so I can contradict my earlier post.

Phone vibrates when I pick it up.

Well, as the title says, everytime I pick up my phone I feel a little vibration (and no, I don't have the "smart alert" thing turned on). I tried not to be worried about it but I can't not notice it. Any ideas?

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

Also try clearing system cache in the boot menu.
If that doesn't get it, modify the appropriate notification setting, lol.
That can be a daunting task but sort of fun because you can streamline your notification settings as you do so.

If they catch it. Consider which sensors and operation triggers it, cause and effect, to narrow it down.
Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.
Only persistence is omnipotent...

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.
